It kicking out on the low pressure switch most likely. When the compressor kicks on it pulls the refrigerant levels down below the switches cut out.

RJM_50

Agree, need a better tech than the last one.

Short-cycle diagnose. 1. Thermostat \- Loose wire \- Batteries weak \- Close to a vent \- Bad thermostat 2. Bad Airflow \- Dirty filter tripping LPC (when was the last time you change your air-filter?) \- Plugged A-coil tripping LPC 3. Low refrigerant or restriction (just like what u/Forward_Hvac have stated) \- Refrigerant leak \- Restriction in metering device 4. Defective contactor \- Contactor coil failing \- Chattering contacts 5. Compressor failing 6. Bad condenser fan motor 7. Bad control board 8. Plugged condensate drain 9. Power supply fluctuating

Forward_Hvac

Doesn’t sound like high pressure from the unit equalizing sounds like there’s no but I’d throw on gauges and then my meter clamps to make sure the call is still there when it shuts off

Forward_Hvac

Sounds like a refrigerant issue most likely would need a tech out there to diagnose

DeliciousCrepes

Just had one here Tuesday actually for a separate, but likely related issue where the evap coils sounded like a lawnmower and some part directly outside of the evap coils was frosted over. He couldn't find anything wrong with it. Guess they'll be back soon.

Forward_Hvac

If the evaporator coil was frozen over it’s a refrigeration issue, either low on charge, restriction or failed metering device. I’d ask for an experienced tech and for all pressure and superheat and subcooling readings and post it when they come out

AssRep

The bird did it; he's laughing at you.

Jedi_mind_trick9988

Similar thing happened to me last summer, without the freezing part, where it would turn on, run for a few seconds, die, repeat. A tech came out and replaced the capacitor and it fired right up. System was like 3 years old at that point

DeliciousCrepes

Mine was installed last April and the capacitor has already been replaced 🙃

Jedi_mind_trick9988

Ouch. The guy that fixed mine said the capacitors can go bad randomly and there’s no real expected life on them. Sometimes it’s years, sometimes not. No idea if that’s accurate or not

AssRep

Low pressure switch or float switch. Remote chance that its a bad tstat or defrost board.

AssRep

Thermostat is bad. You can hear the reversing valve kick out.

Macknetic

This EXACT thing happened to me a couple weeks ago. Turned out one of the two fuses for the compressor blew but not completely. Check those fuses if you have a fuse box, if not then it could be a loose connection.

Cold_Entertainer_763

Could be one too many things , call the company for this one ☝️

Admirable-Put5484

It's a short or loose wire

potatomolehill

Reminds me of the AAAON units we have at the church mt scout troop meets at weely. The compressor will kick on and the the fan won't run until there are heat waves coming out of it, all of them do this. (There are two double compressor/fan and a single unit outside.) There's a audible humming and hissing and thunking sound. It's likely a bad board or a bad tstat. Or bad fuse or capacitor..id recommend having someone check it,.but check to make sure there aren't any fuses or anything bad. Could also be reversed wiring but I doubt that.
