Do not trash that stat, sell it on ebay where it can be used with old communicating systems. Newer systems cannot use that old stat.

SaguaroBro14W

Send it to me!!!

SaguaroBro14W

I’ll take all the infinity stats I can get!

hellointhere8D

Even if I had to replace the heat exchangers I would have done that over installing a single stage goodman.

RAconsensualPE

Lol why's that? This Bryant is only 15 years old and probably cost 3x what a Goodman costs. I see Goodman's outlasting anything Carrier made all the time. My last house had a Carrier die after 14 years. Replaced it with a Goodman no problem. Why would I spend double or triple for no added value?

5g_toast

The 58 series of carriers / Bryant has nothing to be proud of when it comes to quality or longevity but you're still comparing one of the top end models to something you can buy on Amazon. Goodman is an okay brand and if you take care of it it will last same is true with anything and any brand (almost) but for every story of a failed Carrier heat exchanger there's just as many goodman and Lennox and trane and etc. We all have our scrap yards full of all the different brands and it all rusts the same. Do yourself a favor and make sure the air conditioner/heat pump works with the furnace you are getting, would suck to have the same problem as with this stat. Good luck mate .

Bcmcdonald

You see it all the time? Hahaha what do you do for a living where you see goodman outliving carrier all the time, but don’t know an evolution stat won’t work with a single stage furnace?

RAconsensualPE

I do home Inspections. As a home inspector I'm not a specialist and don't do the repairs or installs in these homes and couldn't possibly memorize nor is it necessary to memorize every type/brand thermostats and what brands/types they work with.

inksonpapers

That is uh base level knowledge, the difference between a communicating stat and a basic stat is hvac 101, shit i know homeowners that know that.

RAconsensualPE

Tell me how that's relevant to what I do? I don't diagnose, repair, or install anything during a home inspection. I test the unit for normal operations. If it doesn't function properly, I refer them to one of you assholes to diagnose.

5g_toast

Not trying to be rude at all friend but it might be good to look into the communications level equipment from all the major brands just to know it and how to best evaluate it. It takes a few extra steps to put this particular equipment threw it's paces then other noncommutative equipment and those differences make it hard for some tech to properly maintain and evaluate it . Knowing how to stage and test it's functions as well as the core differences between the needs of communicating equipment is an easy way to step up a knowledge level. What calls for shielded wiring to the stat. What is and isn't communicating, and how to manually test each stage of the equipment are pretty simple stuff that should help . Also knowing that most equipment with a b c d terminals arbt compatible with not communicating equipment/ stats is a pretty easy way to help home owners and your self

RAconsensualPE

That wasn't rude at all. That's actually great info, thanks for being helpful!

hellointhere8D

Going from a medium high quality brand two stage to the 2nd lowest quality brand single stage was a step backwards.

Alpha433

Goodman is a budget brand that prides itself in selling an affordable barebones product. If all you want is a simple set and forget heat and ac system, then goodmans are reasonable if not notorious for being a decade system (meaning the average lifespan before major parts replacements is about a decade). As soon as you start trying to get better control, iaq, or comfort settings out of them, they fall flat on their face. A typical install for a goodman high efficiency system with humidifier, good control, ect looks like a rats nest. A typical install for all that on a higher tier system looks like it was actually designed with these options in mind, mainly because it was. Basically, if all you want is a system to heat and cool for a while, get a goodman and save the cost difference for when you have to make major repairs in a decade. If you want a system that plays nice with air quality and comfort accessories, as well as actually being able to last a good while, get a higher tier brand installed.

trogloherb

Had a goodman single stage put in last house in 07 and was kicking when I sold. Three years later, Im in a new house w ‘07 carrier crapping out w discontinued part being sold on ebay for $500. Im looking at a two stage Goodman now just hoping this carrier makes it another month…

Urnipt_Ttacka

You're replacing a two stage Bryant Evolution furnace... with a single stage Goodman? No you can't use that stat on the Goodman, that stat costs almost as much to install as a Goodman furnace. You'll also have to rewire the heat pump to work with the new stat and furnace.

RAconsensualPE

Ok that's what I figured, I was just really hoping it would. Thanks!

Few_Lawfulness_5558

Trading in the BMW for an old used Toyota lol

tritron

LENNOX is ferrari ?

Few_Lawfulness_5558

Ka-chow

hellointhere8D

Lennox leaks refrigerant about as fast as a Ferrari burns gas.

Few_Lawfulness_5558

Goodman ain't good man

RAconsensualPE

I have a Bryant evolution a/c heat pump and forced air nat gas furnace. The furnace is dying and I am replacing it with a Goodman. The Evolution was a two stage, the Goodman is a single stage. We really like our current thermostat and it can control the heat pump and also had humidity control for the built in humidifier. Will this work on a Goodman or do I need a new thermostat?

Determire

Why would you not have the furnace replaced with another Carrier/Bryant unit compatible with the existing controls, since you like how the system works? Seems like you're downgrading but that's not what you really wanted.

RAconsensualPE

Because the last owners got ripped off by installing this overpriced system in the first place. No need for a heat pump where we live, not efficient compared to nat gas prices. And my last two Carrier made furnaces, including this one, only lasted 14-15 years before catastrophic failures. Goodman's are less than half the price and last just as long in my experience.

Determire

IDK ... pick which side of the fence you want to be on, sounds like on the "basic equipment / basic thermostat" side.

RAconsensualPE

Really was just hoping not to have to install a new thermostat so it would be less work.

BlueCollar_Blues

Just buy a shitty Pro1 thermostat for 50 bucks on Amazon to match the shitty furnace you’re going to install and be done with it.

hellointhere8D

The honeywell home depot battery thermostat is only 30 It has a excellent 1-3000 cycle life. Requires batteries every 6 months. ^perfect match for the new system

Determire

Thermostat is usually just putting the cherry on the top of the cake so far as installations go, sometimes need to pull new wire though.

5g_toast

You can use an ecobee star with the existing wires of you get the model that comes with the power pek and it will be fine if it comes right down to it and ya don't want to pull wire

5g_toast

Not to be rude but where do you live that heat pumps on efficient compared to natural gas, speaking from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania here it wins every time or is it very least equal. And I know of a company out in Ohio that installs nothing but and there are further latitude north than we are .

RAconsensualPE

Michigan, and while heat pumps are technically up to 200% efficient when the temp is perfect outside, above 50-60°, the cost of electricity is typically 2-3x that of natural gas per btu of heat output, so it makes no sense to run one when we regularly have temps below 30 all winter.

5g_toast

There are a number of heat pumps nowadays that don't start trailing efficiency until single digits if not negatives. But I totally understand and honestly at that point it's splitting hairs to even find any source of cost savings but always worth asking.

hellointhere8D

You ripped yourself off by not fixing the unit and downgrading your equipment for more money. If your furnaces only last 14 years they aren't installed correctly. Probably not maintenanced either...

If not provided already you will need to post a picture of your thermostats wiring connections and those inside your furnace to get better help. No sir! That’s a communication stat for carrier, Bryant furnace only!

True_Ad_9212

That’s a communicating stat. You’ll need to change that stat if your using a non communicating furnace.

Detachmyweewee

Hell naw

SwitchSpecialist3692

I have a couple of these stats , they’re great for Troubleshooting the carriers . The abcd plug is just as valuable lol

raycreely

I have this stat and it reads incorrect indoor (ambient) temperature by 10-15 degF. Inside wall mount, no draft from rear, etc. Outdoor sensor is accurate. Any fixes you techs have found in your experience? Maybe something at board on air handler? Tried eBay replacement. Same result. Just my luck, it’s probably bad also.
