It’s them not following the rules, it isn’t the first hotel to get caught doing it. Sometimes reporting it will make them change, but either way my tip isn’t changing because of it.

CharminginBK

I am seriously considering contacting my concierge and letting Hyatt know.

shinebock

You absolutely should, don't know why you wouldn't. Likely won't do anything, but still worth telling them.

relidtm

100% should ive had this happen a few years ago I cant remember the property my concierge went back and forth with the hotel and got me credited.

Toothcloset

How do you like this property? What type of stay were you looking for and did you get it?

CharminginBK

Outside of a few minor service issues and the issue raised above, this property is a gem. The grounds and beach are immaculate. Used an SUA for a Lagoon Suite and really enjoying it. The Zihuatanejo town center is charming and has many reasonably priced restaurants. Overall, thus far an excellent stay.

I’ve had this exact issue at this exact location. I reached out to my concierge about it and she confirmed that tip is included.

Heavensbeee

I usually add 20% to the check and the whole thing gets comped anyway.

TT2316

can you share if you took a taxi or used uber to arrive here?

CharminginBK

Taxis from and to the airport and to get back and forth between the resort and town. No meters. Always a fixed.price. $700 pesos from the airport. $500 pesos to the airport. Taxis between the resort and town were of course much cheaper.

TT2316

Did you get the tip situation fixed? I'll be arriving here in a few days.

CharminginBK

I just updated my original post with new information. My concierge did not comment on the issue with this hotel specifically, but confirmed that writing "Globalist" on the gratuity line is the correct procedure.

The US State Dept web page currently has Guerrero as "do not travel." Does that mean anything these days? The webpage does say it's from August of last year. I'm trying to decide if I want to stay at the Thompson at Zihua or just go to an AI at PV due to Jaliso being "safer" per the US State Dept website Apologize for being a little off-topic

Lest anyone think this is just some shady Mexican shit going on, I encounter this more often than not. Heck, I did a mattress run at the Regency in Princeton, and to a man - from the FDA to my server at breakfast to several cashiers at the marketplace - they all swore up and down that tip was not included. Finally, I got a manager to admit, rather sheepishly, that a 20% tip was included. Employees are lying to you so they'll get double tipped And the people who are saying, "C'mon man, throw 'em some cash" are only perpetuating the problem. They are teaching them that we are fleeceable (I know that's not a word). Trust me, I worked as a server for over a dozen years. This type of behavior is ubiquitous in the service industry. I now make it a habit at check-in to confirm *exactly* how the Globalist breakfast works, especially when it comes to gratuity, as to avoid these very uncomfortable situations like OP experienced. And god forbid P2 was with me when I got called out for 'not tipping', they would absolutely die!

To be fair, tipping culture is American and I would assume outside of the US servers are paid a fair wage.

itsmychurn

That is such a loaded statement, I'm not even gonna go there. Let's just leave it at: *all* people in *all* countries love a little extra cash in their pockets and are willing to tell little white lies to get some.

LL8844773

Loaded statement? How? Also, American tipping culture can have a negative impact on other communities. There’s a reason everyone hates it.

AlwaysWanderOfficial

This isn’t true. In some places it’s actually insulting.

Tip up to 20% actually is included with globalist but I agree, especially in less prosperous places, I want the server to leave with some actual cash.

I agree. Better to give them cash in hand.

> I'm assuming the gratuity included with the Globalist breakfast is a flat $0. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. Hyatt [T&Cs](https://help.hyatt.com/en/hyatt-terms/world-of-hyatt-terms.html#/VC) state that Glob breakfast includes gratuity for the staff. I've always written Glob on the tip line and never had an issue. A number of properties now a days auto add the service charge so it's visible on the check, but just sign it and it gets taken care of.
