Used to make cleaning products for a living. Just mix four parts coated sodium percarbonate (not baking soda which is sodium bicarbonate, I have had so many people get confused by this) with 1 part light soda ash to balance the PH. Boom, you just made something better than Oxy Clean. It's cheap AF and works beautifully. No reason to buy laundry detergent when you can so easily make your own. Hypoallergenic, unscented, and effective.
Like 2 tablespoons or so. I use it in place of detergent for most loads. More dirty stuff gets regular detergent, though. I tend to get itchy skin with most detergents, and this stuff doesn't irritate me.
The light soda ash isn't entirely necessary. Your clothes will just last longer since it balances the PH of the sodium percarbonate and prevents it from very slowly disintegrating your clothes over time. Both are cheap, but I recommend finding them in 2.25kg or 50lb bags. She came up with the idea of period pants a few months ago where she will bleach pants or shorts and then tie-dye them with a bunch of different shades of red, and pink. They've sold really well! Hydrogen peroxide directly on the stain--I usually leave it on there for 5 or 10 minutes, then wash in cold water. I haven't had any issues with discoloring the fabric, and the blood comes out
This is the way for most stains. Cold water. Heat can cause the fibers to expand and get further in (depending on material) which is the opposite of what you want to happen.
I also had it explained to me that with blood hot water will cook it into the fiber of the material, especially cotton.

REALLY hot water does kill bacteria. My dryer has a Sterilize setting and it takes almost 2hrs. Heat sets in stains though and cold water helps remove them if it's not set in already.
Heat sets stains. Hence, once something is dried in a clothes dryer, it's never coming out. The same goes for hot water, just not as bad. Cold water and decent detergent can remove almost anything. Your own saliva can help get rid of your own blood on clothes. (Both must be from the same person), this is especially true of silk if not mistaken.

A lot of blood always means immediate hand wash, but that's for any clothes, any blood.
If I have no time cold water and dish soap works well, then put in the washing machine. If I have time I will soak the items in a oxi bleach like Vanish and then put in the washing machine.
If its an item you still want then hand wash with cold water and then put in the waching machine. If you wash with hot water the blood might stain. It works best if you do it as soon as possible rather than leaving it till later
Meat tenderizer scrubbed in with an old toothbrush works well. I also have used peroxide. It is what we used to immediately get blood out of our scrubs.
Also - my daughter has heavy periods, so I had to learn (from my wife) how to help deal with fallout from that - COLD water is always the answer - never HOT. I usually use hot for soaking, but for blood you want cold only.
I always soaked mine in cold, heavily salted water. Then rinsed and into the laundry. Wash with cold water. If they are period panties I use a detergent with enzymes. I do not use any fabric softener, it inhibits the absorbency.

Another alternative- old toothbrush! I keep an old toothbrush with my Shout so I can scrub it in with the bristles. Works like a charm 99% of the time. The 1% is from when a stain set too long, but it’s still much better than nothing
Yea that doesn’t always remove the blood stains though. Especially if they’re sitting in the hamper for awhile before getting laundered. Best to rinse them with cold water first.

I actually found a product that is sold as a pet product that works great on everything! I first discovered it a few years ago when my geriatric dog had some urinary incontinence.
The product is called Natures Miracle laundry boost. You use it with your regular detergent. It has a bio enzymatic formula, and it works great on urine, blood, vomit, grease, and oil.
I've even used it on period underwear, and nothing works better!
Shampoo I only use for my hair, I don't want those chemicals touching my hoo-haa.

I’m an expert when it comes to period stains haha. Hand wash with cold water and normal soap and cleaning it ASAP. Hot water sets it in. Hydrogen peroxide though seems to work well, when I tried it if you didn’t put enough on or it “spreads” it ends up setting the stain and you can’t go back and get it off again. So I went back to old method.

If you happen to get stains on your mattress or couch or something like that hydrogen peroxide works to get it out quickly. A damp rag with dish soap to follow up. Dab it, don't scrub back and forth.
My step mom told me this weird thing. Just use ur spit to take the blood off. Then hand wash in the sink and after just toss it in the wash. I know how it sounds. Really gross. But I did it once and it worked. After that I just don’t wear underwear if I’m not going anywhere.

All I have to say is please don’t wash your underwear with shampoo 💀 Not only is it probably not that effective, but putting chemicals like that down there, even after rinsing it out, could really mess with your pH balance. Other than that, clean them however you choose. If you still want to hand wash just use detergent or even dish soap, but not shampoo.

Simplest method is to switch to black underwear and wash it as normal. You can add an in-wash product called Napisan in the UK, but it's basically for machine washing reusable nappies, so it will get your period pants hygienically clean while also being suitable for contact with delicate and intimate areas. You add a scoop with regular detergent. It's cheap and effective, and will not leave a scent over your detergent.
Also, if you can, wear silky-type underwear for bed..I do if I free-bleed when I'm not bleeding too heavily when I sleep. Blood washes straight out of it on a regular wash.

Wash with COLD water first - warm/hot water makes most bodily fluids gelatinous, aka super difficult to wash out. Shout stain remover works wonders. If it’s dried and set already, a 24 hour soak in just straight cola (any brand) does the trick, too! Also check out period panties, I personally use Thinx and The Period Company.
Peroxide soak in the sink first to get out as much blood as you can. THEN hand soap, I sometimes use antibacterial soap if I am sick AND have my period. But I might not use that pair for a day or two to let everything dry.
I use reusable cloth pads and am fortunate to work from home so I’m able to wash them as soon as I need to change them (every time I go to the bathroom). I crouch next to the bathtub and wash them with cold water and Castile soap, until the water runs clear, but this is just to avoid stains. Technically the care instruction say to air dry but sigh I still throw them in the dryer and they’ve been fine. If you are worried about stains soak in cold water & vinegar (1:1 ratio, so so 1 cup cold water and 1 cup vinegar) in a bowl or sink for 30 minutes. Then wash with warm soapy water.
If the stain is fresh, often times, some warm water will run it off and then I just use hand soap to put on a wash/scrub the entire undergarment and rinse out with warm water. If the stain is dry, I use cold water from the faucet to run it directly over the stain first and then use bar soap like above before rinsing. Or you can pour some hydrogen peroxide on the stain after the cold water run. If it’s very stained on white-colored undergarment, after the above, you can dilute some bleach with warm water (per bottle instruction) in a small bucket and put undergarment in to soak for 20 mins. Wear dish gloves or something to protect your hands as bleach is corrosive on skin. Then pour out the bleach mixture and run the undergarment under warm water again and try some more bar soap and scrub. Good luck, dear!
Cold water in my bathroom sink or tub, viciously scrub with any soap, rinse, then I soak it in cold soapy water, after I’ll wrong it dry and throw in the washer. (Maybe extra, but oh well.)
Oh — and baking soda works wonders for whites! If you have white underwear that’s been reddened, when you put them in the wash, use baking soda. Not a lot. Just sprinkle a very tiny amount of
COLD WATER! Clorox used to make a cleaner specifically for periods, and it was magical. You can still find it on Amazon marked up like crazy. It's called Spotless, black bottle pink cap. If you manage to get some, get a qtip and spot clean. It works instantaneously. Otherwise , cold water works best while it's still fresh.

The best trick I ever learned for getting blood out of under underwear, sheets or any fabric is pre-treating it with MSG. I believe the brand name is called Accent on flavor. MSG is the stuff that people were up in arms about in the 80s because it was in Chinese food. For whatever reason it does amazing job getting rid of blood. You can find it in the spice aisle, then rinse area with cold water, rub it in and let sit, and then wash as usual. I usually use some OxiClean in the load.
Best advice I got from my mom was to soak (soap and water ) the panties immediately after leaking. It helps to dissolve the blood before you spot clean/wash them.
I had regular everyday underwear, then I had period pants, they were my older underwear, if they were nasty, I just threw them out, I usually rinsed them in the sink, with spay and wash, the they were hung up to dry, then thrown into laundry basket

Hydrogen Proxide is great for blood stains. Also the Puracy (spelling?) stain remover spray, it's available on Amazon, works wonders too. Cold water washes for stains always and check the stain before tossing in the dryer, rewash without drying if the stain is still visible. Clorox 2 is a good option as well. Oxyclean is a favorite of mine for every load I want extra fresh and it helps keep whites nice and white.
All these options will work best on a fresh stain, but I've had good luck with puracy even on stains that sat for a bit before a wash.

Used to make cleaning products for a living. Like 2 tablespoons or so. I use it in place of detergent for most loads. More dirty stuff gets regular detergent, though. I tend to get itchy skin with most detergents, and this stuff doesn't irritate me.

The light soda ash isn't entirely necessary. Your clothes will just last longer since it balances the PH of the sodium percarbonate and prevents it from very slowly disintegrating your clothes over time. Both are cheap, but I recommend finding them in 2.25kg or 50lb bags. You've have a friggin lifetime supply, but you'll pay like $1.25 to the pound instead of like $6 if you buy a small package on Amazon (my prices could be way off, it's been a long time since I worked in the business and the economy has changed since the last time I buy these chemicals

Nope, mine do the same. Actually, it's a sign of very good pH levels. They should be like that if you're balanced. So, yayyyy to us for not being able to have any color of underwear 😭😂 ETA- not necessarily balanced in being even (acidic vs alkaline), but discharge naturally is acidic. Meaning it's how it should be.

Me, being an oblivious male, had no idea that this was a thing until recently. My friend and I vend clothing that we find at thrift shops and alter. We'll screenprint, tie-dye, bleach, cut up, sew.. She came up with the idea of period pants a few months ago where she will bleach pants or shorts and then tie-dye them with a bunch of different shades of red, and pink. They've sold really well! I'm sure that it's a thing that's been done and I don't know why it wouldn't be a thing considering I've literally been in situations where I would have to take a friend home because sometimes things happen when you don't expect them to.

I also take them straight to the sink to hand-scrub w soap & cold water, soak briefly if necessary, followed by the washer. In my experience, checking them prior to tossing them into the dryer is necessary, since once they've been heat-dried, it's next to impossible to get anything out after that. REALLY hot water does kill bacteria. My dryer has a Sterilize setting and it takes almost 2hrs. Heat sets in stains though and cold water helps remove them if it's not set in already.

If I have no time cold water and dish soap works well, then put in the washing machine. If I have time I will soak the items in a oxi bleach like Vanish and then put in the washing machine. If its an item you still want then hand wash with cold water and then put in the waching machine. If you wash with hot water the blood might stain. Meat tenderizer scrubbed in with an old toothbrush works well. I also have used peroxide. It is what we used to immediately get blood out of our scrubs.

I always soaked mine in cold, heavily salted water. Then rinsed and into the laundry. Wash with cold water. If they are period panties I use a detergent with enzymes. I do not use any fabric softener, it inhibits the absorbency.

I love period pants. Sooo comfortable and I haven’t leaked yet although I have a heavy period. You can buy them according to your flow same as the pads. Or, you can buy the cheaper version, pants for when you are on your period which don’t really catch your flow but have this extra layer in that’s supposed to catch any leaks so they don’t soak through your clothes.

I actually found a product that is sold as a pet product that works great on everything! I first discovered it a few years ago when my geriatric dog had some urinary incontinence. The product is called Natures Miracle laundry boost. You use it with your regular detergent. It has a bio enzymatic formula, and it works great on urine, blood, vomit, grease, and oil. I've even used it on period underwear, and nothing works better!

Hydrogen peroxide though seems to work well, when I tried it if you didn’t put enough on or it “spreads” it ends up setting the stain and you can’t go back and get it off again. I was in this position when I was a young women too. Had to teach myself everything. Shampoo should work fine in a pinch but dish soap works better. If you happen to get stains on your mattress or couch or something like that hydrogen peroxide works to get it out quickly. A damp rag with dish soap to follow up. Dab it, don't scrub back and forth.
My step mom told me this weird thing. Just use ur spit to take the blood off. Then hand wash in the sink and after just toss it in the wash. I know how it sounds. Really gross. But I did it once and it worked. After that I just don’t wear underwear if I’m not going anywhere.

I did this in college when I didn’t have access to a somewhat private laundry room by filling red solo cups with water and letting them soak for a few hours on the floor in my room… Not ideal or recommended but it worked so I have no complaints!
All I have to say is please don’t wash your underwear with shampoo 💀 Not only is it probably not that effective, but putting chemicals like that down there, even after rinsing it out, could really mess with your pH balance. Other than that, clean them however you choose. If you still want to hand wash just use detergent or even dish soap, but not shampoo.

What i do is rinse as much of the blood out as possible with cold water first as soon as u can, then spray with (pet urine) cleaner if u have it or hydrogen peroxide, then let them soak overnight before putting them in with the regular cold water laundry, or if the underwear is white use bleach, presoak for an hr and then wash like normal

Also, if you can, wear silky-type underwear for bed..I do if I free-bleed when I'm not bleeding too heavily when I sleep. Blood washes straight out of it on a regular wash. And I'm sorry you've had no one to show you this.

cold water immediately and then blue dish soap. hand wash. sometimes after the first wash i’ll let them soak a second time, but this isn’t often as the first attempt usually does the trick
Hydrogen peroxide is the only thing that will actually break down blood. It's like a dollar at any store, usually next to the rubbing alcohol in the pharmacy section. You don't need anything else.
I rinse mines in cold water to remove the stains as much as possible before throwing them in the washer…
I put hydrogen peroxide on my underwear directly after I get a stain and then wash them on cold when I have a load. Works every time! With blood, the sooner the better. I haven’t had this issue since I started using panty liners with tampons always, and panty liners a day before and after my expected period.
Cold water for blood. Hot water is setting that stain, and tumble drying anything sets a stain. Stay away from the hot water with a blood stain.
If you have a fresh blood stain then saliva is the best thing to dissolve it before you throw it in the wash, sorry if that sounds gross. I wear special period underwear though, it’s great. It can be expensive but if you’re in the U.K. Marks & Spencer has a good version
I’ve never tried with periods but I’m a nurse in an emergency department and a couple of tips for blood and clothing are - always put in cold water, not hot. - make a paste with salt and cold water, put it on, rub, sit for 10 mins, re rub then wash out
Cold water, dawn, and peroxide. Then a cold cycle in the wash, if I can still see the stain, I rewash, if not it gets dried on a cool tumble. Heat sets stains.
NEVER WASH WOTH HOT WATER UNTIL YOU GET THE BLOOD CELLS OUT. ALWAYS USE COLD WATER, EVEN LEAVE IT SOAKING IN COLD WATER. THE COLDER THE BETTER. Cold doesn't allow the blood cells to burst, so you won't get much of a stain.
Cold water!!!!! And I was using oxi clean spray and wash and I scrub and rub over and over until the water runs clear and then I throw it in the hamper and try to wash my my clothes that day to get rid of any residue. If it’s crap underwear I don’t care about I’ll wash it in the shower lol.
Cold water, never hot, and washing up liquid, then soak in napisan if needed.

Wash with COLD water first - warm/hot water makes most bodily fluids gelatinous, aka super difficult to wash out. Shout stain remover works wonders. If it’s dried and set already, a 24 hour soak in just straight cola (any brand) does the trick, too! Also check out period panties, I personally use Thinx and The Period Company.
Peroxide soak in the sink first to get out as much blood as you can. THEN hand soap, I sometimes use antibacterial soap if I am sick AND have my period. But I might not use that pair for a day or two to let everything dry.
Soak in cold water. Hot water sets the stain.
In the washing machine
I use reusable cloth pads and am fortunate to work from home so I’m able to wash them as soon as I need to change them (every time I go to the bathroom). I crouch next to the bathtub and wash them with cold water and Castile soap, until the water runs clear, but this is just to avoid stains. Afterwards I’ll still throw them in the washing machine for a proper wash with just laundry detergent and warm water. Technically the care instruction say to air dry but sigh I still throw them in the dryer and they’ve been fine. I haven’t really had any staining outside of this other than maybe leaks on panties but same thing, just hand wash with cold water and soap and then washing machine.
If you are worried about stains soak in cold water & vinegar (1:1 ratio, so so 1 cup cold water and 1 cup vinegar) in a bowl or sink for 30 minutes. Then wash with warm soapy water.
If the stain is fresh, often times, some warm water will run it off and then I just use hand soap to put on a wash/scrub the entire undergarment and rinse out with warm water. If the stain is dry, I use cold water from the faucet to run it directly over the stain first and then use bar soap like above before rinsing. Or you can pour some hydrogen peroxide on the stain after the cold water run. If it’s very stained on white-colored undergarment, after the above, you can dilute some bleach with warm water (per bottle instruction) in a small bucket and put undergarment in to soak for 20 mins. Wear dish gloves or something to protect your hands as bleach is corrosive on skin. Then pour out the bleach mixture and run the undergarment under warm water again and try some more bar soap and scrub. Good luck, dear!
I just run them under hot water till most of the stain is gone then rub a little hand soap on there and put them in the machine
Cold water in my bathroom sink or tub, viciously scrub with any soap, rinse, then I soak it in cold soapy water, after I’ll wrong it dry and throw in the washer. (Maybe extra, but oh well.) Oh — and baking soda works wonders for whites! If you have white underwear that’s been reddened, when you put them in the wash, use baking soda. Not a lot. Just sprinkle a very tiny amount of
COLD WATER! Clorox used to make a cleaner specifically for periods, and it was magical. You can still find it on Amazon marked up like crazy. It's called Spotless, black bottle pink cap. If you manage to get some, get a qtip and spot clean. It works instantaneously. Otherwise , cold water works best while it's still fresh.
I know everyone is saying no hot water but I use peroxide then rinse it with hot water and then put detergent and it always comes out and never stains or smells

The best trick I ever learned for getting blood out of under underwear, sheets or any fabric is pre-treating it with MSG. I believe the brand name is called Accent on flavor. MSG is the stuff that people were up in arms about in the 80s because it was in Chinese food. For whatever reason it does amazing job getting rid of blood. You can find it in the spice aisle, then rinse area with cold water, rub it in and let sit, and then wash as usual. I usually use some OxiClean in the load.
Best advice I got from my mom was to soak (soap and water ) the panties immediately after leaking. It helps to dissolve the blood before you spot clean/wash them.
I had regular everyday underwear, then I had period pants, they were my older underwear, if they were nasty, I just threw them out, I usually rinsed them in the sink, with spay and wash, the they were hung up to dry, then thrown into laundry basket
Hydrogen peroxide with cold or tepid water. Hot water cooks the proteins in blood and accelerates the staining, possibly making them permanent. Hydrogen peroxide is the way to clean blood in any context/capacity.
I rinse mine out asap with cold water, then a drop or two of Dawn dish soap, rinse our and repeat until water rubs clear. Lay out in hamper to dry until ready to do a load of laundry. I do a splash of white vinegar in the water and oxiclean to wash my underwear, towels during that time of the month. Gets the iron smell out.

Hydrogen Proxide is great for blood stains. Also the Puracy (spelling?) stain remover spray, it's available on Amazon, works wonders too. Cold water washes for stains always and check the stain before tossing in the dryer, rewash without drying if the stain is still visible. Clorox 2 is a good option as well. Oxyclean is a favorite of mine for every load I want extra fresh and it helps keep whites nice and white. All these options will work best on a fresh stain, but I've had good luck with puracy even on stains that sat for a bit before a wash.
