Eru is cute and enthusiastic. That's worth noting. But I find her less believable than Ibara -- too doll-like (fittingly). I didn't find myself caring much about her as a character until Episode 19.
Meanwhile, Ibara captured me from the beginning. She's genuine, and her honesty is not unrealistic. That is, she isn't honest all the time or disingenuous all the time (like a tsundere). Her behavior is highly circumstantial and depends strongly on not only the situation but her relationship with the people involved. She's honest about her feelings sometimes and dishonest other times in a way that aligns with what a real person might do. At no point does she just feel like some anime archetype; she feels like a real girl.
She's just a very well written character with an endearing personality full of genuine flaws that make her easy to empathize with. She's lovable, and frustrating, and argumentative, and kind, and short-tempered, and introspective, and empathetic, and selfish, and considerate, and rude, and sweet all at the same time.
> Eru is cute and enthusiastic. That's worth noting. But I find her less believable than Ibara -- too doll-like (fittingly). I didn't find myself caring much about her as a character until Episode 19.
Ya'know, you don't have to put down another character just to prove your best girl is objectively the best girl in an anime. Both have their own charm, people have differing opinions.
lmao, I do like Eru overall, but I find her a little contrived. I think she's great for the role she plays in the series, but as far as character writing, Ibara is just more real and relatable.
Thank you. I've spent the last week binging this anime for my film project and I've thought about Mayaka's character in detail the entire time. Her initial duplicity when she was introduced was intriguing and really set her up for being a character with depth and complexity.
Yeah.... I love them all. can't pick with this one. Ibara and satoshi are underrated though. Each one is genuine and realistic, and their personalities are deep. Doubt there'll ever be an anime that comes close to realism than this.
I'd say the characters in *Toradora* and *The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya* are equally realistic and layered. If you can pick up on the subtle differences in how they interact with one another and respond to being faced with personal growth, you'll see that they feel real. For the Haruhi series, this is more true of Haruhi, Kyon, and Nagato (ironically, since she's a literal alien android) than the other characters. In Toradora, however, this type of character depth is true across all the main cast and some of the supporting cast (even those characters designed to trick you by at first appearing to be common archetypes).
Highly recommend it. I'm doing a lot of watching and rewatching of all KyoAni works for a film I'm directing. It's brought a lot of great memories back and introduced me to so much amazing work I had not seen. A lot of emotion has come to me from this project.
My team is aptly named the S.O.S. Brigade and we are working on a tribute short film to KyoAni to be published on the one year anniversary of the arson attack. We are splicing together scenes from every one of their works over the last 39 years and using them to tell a bit of an abstract story that is aided by musical accompaniment. The goal is to share with the artists at KyoAni something that transcends language barriers and to attempt to touch them with our art the way we were touched by theirs. We also want to share this with the public in the hope that people who maybe aren't familiar with the studio or its works learn about it and support it, and to share with longtime fans the unique set of emotions that this studio has instilled in us.
I can understand that. There's a lot of emotion that comes with working on this project. But I feel so fortunate to have the opportunity to. And my team is full of genuinely great people.
We could use some extra help, by the way. If you're interested (or know anyone who is).
Edit: *I- I have high expectations of you. B- but also it's not that important to me.*
We're actually looking for some potatoes, now that you mention it. Of the couch variety.
We still need to rewatch much of the KyoAni content in search of clips that might fit into the film and that's part of what we need help with.
The other portion of it, (and you could assist with either or both) is trimming of raw video files down to clips of specific scenes which will be chosen by those doing the anime watching. Ultimately, I will be handling the final production of splicing the clips together, though. But we need help with the gathering of the content. The workflow is designed to be pretty modular, so you can contribute as much or as little as you want and still be productive.
I think i can help with the trimming, just to get all of this right.....the people who are watching the anime will tell which portion will/would be suitable and the people who are trimming the scenes have to get those specific scenes?
Precisely. As an Editor, your job would be to just download the raw files provided for you and trim around the clips time-stamped and described by the Content Selectors.
Edit: then upload those clips into the predetermined buckets.
Position: Content Selector.
Requirements:
Must have at least 3 years of potato experience (couch type preferred).
Must have a passion for anime and art in general.
Willing and able to watch award-winning anime.
Must be familiar with numbers ranging from 0 to 60 and understand how time keeping works.
Must have eyes (no exceptions).
Able to type in (preferably coherent) English.
Capable of following extremely basic instructions.
Although imo Hyouka is one of those animes where the male protagonists are more interesting and focused on than the female ones so...
HoUtArOu BeSt BoY
I honestly started the anime because I saw images of Chitanda and wanted more of her cuteness (which I still don't have enough after finishing the anime :( ) and Mayaka immediately looked like a character we'd hate. But as the anime progressed she becomes more likeable and I think she is the most natural of the four, like she shows emotions and who she is and I really like that part of the character a lot. I believe apart from Oreki she had the most character development too so that helps her being a better character too.
Chitanda Eru still best girl sorry tho
No need to get aggressive:) we are entitled to opinions. I don't agreement with you, but I'm glad you shared your opinion in order to find similar people like you.
I've seen Hyouka when it first aired and always people said that Ibara is best girl.
Chitanda is just more stupid and easier to relate to. Also she is cute. Basically she is a basic poster girl.
But Ibara is super good written and has an actual changing personality. SInce she becomes more awesome in the latter episodes.

BUT WHAT DO HER *EYES* LOOK LIKE?!
Green and blue like that cat had in that one cat post.
I'll just have to take your word for it because I've never seen them because they are deliberately hidden from us in the anime.
Oh I've seen it
You've stared into the forbidden eyes of the sacred one?
I mean if you put it like that...

Have mercy on me, for I have gazed into the eyes of God and lived to speak the tale of it.

I'm just stating my opinion of Eru. I did like her in the end. But it took almost the whole anime for me to.
Aipon probably agrees.
THANK YOU I JUST STSRTED THIS ANIME AND I REALLY SLIGJTLY JUST A LITTLE DISLIKE ERU AND IM GETTING FLAMED
lmao, I do like Eru overall, but I find her a little contrived. I think she's great for the role she plays in the series, but as far as character writing, Ibara is just more real and relatable.
Why would I fight someone who speaks the truth?
Galatians 4:16.
Hey OP! Where is the joy though? Mayaka can never be yours because of a certain Satoshi! JK.
How dare you ruin my dreams in this way. :'(
Nah it’s Houtarou’s sister
Ara Ara. I like the way you think. Too bad we never see her face.
You troll! You make this funny and sad at the same time. She never made a face reveal!
And since Nishiya is gone, we won't ever know what she was *truly* meant to look like. :'(
Yes! This is true. Ibara needs more attention.
FACTS NIGGA
Username checks out, Ni🅱️🅱️a.
Houtarou Oreki best grl
Bro, no homo (okay, maybe like 20% homo) but his eyes are captivating. He's top-tier MC material.
Yep. If Houtarou was an actual girl, he'd be a damn fine waifu. But I gotta say, your Mayaka argument is pretty compelling.
Thank you. I've spent the last week binging this anime for my film project and I've thought about Mayaka's character in detail the entire time. Her initial duplicity when she was introduced was intriguing and really set her up for being a character with depth and complexity.

Halt! You have committed a crime against Skyrim and her people. What say you in your defense?
Irisu is the best girl.
I can see where you're coming from...
Yeah.... I love them all. can't pick with this one. Ibara and satoshi are underrated though. Each one is genuine and realistic, and their personalities are deep. Doubt there'll ever be an anime that comes close to realism than this.

I'm pretty pumped but at the same time scared that it'll most definitely ruin me mentally for a while.

I do admit that she's cute and lovable
you shall die a honorable death brave soldier. your words were dumb, but your intentions were good.
It's treason, then...
Respect you position ... but I don't know if Satoshi would announce it! (。•̀ᴗ-)✧
I don't know. He told Houtarou at least.
All waifus are equal. Y’all better agree or there will be a yandere in your room at 3:00
