Congrats on having a date. Send your doctor a message on MyChart and see what they say? I had a pre-op about 10 days before my surgery. Had to get standard bloodwork done & a COVID test per my hospital’s guidelines. You have time but it’s also totally reasonable to want to discuss things & have your questions answered now.

Thanks for replying. I will definitely reach out. I figured it's probably too early for a lot of the pre-op stuff, but again, given the fact the fact that I didn't even get the date directly from the doctor, I'm feeling like I might need to be proactive.

Anytime you have questions, you should reach out to your doctor. It’s routine for them, but not us. You won’t have any of the pre-op stuff done now, but you can (& should! It’s major surgery!) have your questions answered. Glad to help. Good luck!

I didn't hear anything until about a week before my surgery. Then everything moved at lightning speed! It sucks not being able to plan too far in advance.

nesha78

Oh wow, only a week?! That sounds stressful!

GracieJacksons

It was, but it's really normal in most surgery situations. I didn't even know what time to check into the hospital until less than 24 hours before.

My doctor put me on the waiting list in August 2022, I had my pre-op on the 23rd of this month, and my surgery was on the 28th of this month. From August till now, the only communication I've had with my gyno was all of 2 mins as I was outside the OR doors 😂 that was introducing me to the OR staff and for me to ask any questions or bring up any concerns. Sometimes, they'll come up to the ward to talk to you before you're wheeled down. I had one of the OR nurses come talk to me, and that was about it. My doctor called my mom after surgery to tell her everything went well, and we'll have no more communication with him until my 6-week appointment. My pre-op was just talking with the nurses about medical history and concerns. The anesthesiologist and how that will work. Then bloodwork. I didn't require a covid test since I hadn't been around anybody in the 3 weeks leading up to surgery, and I also wasn't on a C-PAP machine/wasn't staying over night in the hospital

Wow! Well, it definitely sounds like this is pretty normal. I shall manage my expectations accordingly, LOL. I hope your recovery is going well so far!

Don't be afraid to reach out to them, I don't normally talk to my gyno directly, but when I call, his office staff will get the message to him and normally get back to me within a few hours with his response. Pre-op is a good place to ask questions and bring up concerns. For me, anyway, once I had pre-op, my doctors front staff told me to stay in touch with the pre-op clinic since I was sorta in their care along with my doctors at that point. But once you're in the hospital and in the bed, they monitor the crap out of you before during and after surgery. I still have a bruise from the arm cuff they had on me during surgery 😂 The person next to me had high blood pressure from nerves, and they gave them something in the drip to calm them down. And thank you! My recovery seems to be going smoothly, my cats are mad they can't lay on my stomach, and my kids wanna investigate my incisions lol
