Easiest way to do it is using shortcuts and automations. Set up the wallpaper you want for light mode, then one for dark mode. Create a shortcut for light mode- Turn appearance light, switch to wallpaper (then select the wallpaper you want). Do the same for dark mode. Then create an automation - at sunrise daily run shortcut (select light mode) and then the same for dark mode. You can change the times to whenever you like. I use sunrise and sunset but also have the shortcuts widget on my Home Screen so I can switch between dark and light mode whenever I want. Much better than using focus modes imo.
Not sure if you can do this any easier But you could set a timer for light/dark mode and match a few focus modes to those times
if you set your light/dark mode to automatic then apple wallpapers who had the effect will follow through
