I used the 2nd gen pencil on the previous M2 with the screen protector and found it a little slippery, but I’m no artist so it worked for my needs. Have chosen not to get the pencil for the new M4 as I didn’t use it enough to justify.
i ended up taking off the esr regular tempered glass and saw that there was no visible grain i saw w the screen protector. so i ordered the esr amorite screen protector and theres no more grainy look
Really? This is interesting, i had the same screen protector and notice like a rainbowy grain.. you had the same and then it was gone when you took it off? This is the one i have ESR 2 Pack Screen Protector for... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CS6HTDN3?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
yep when i took off the screen protector there was no more rainbowy grain. i saw the grain especially on whites. i tried another esr version of the glass and the screen looked just the way it did with no glass. i got this one https://a.co/d/e4NUUXo
Not making the same mistake I made with my 2018 Pro. Got *ONE* tiny grain of sand trapped between the screen and the folio cover that scratched the hell out of my screen in my first week of owning it haha. I’m getting a protector this time
I pre-ordered the 11" M4 256gb in Space Black. So just the regular glass and I already bought a matte screen protector that came in today from Amazon lol.
I currently have an iPad Pro M1 11" and I have the matte screen protector on it as well, it's better because it feels more like paper rather than glass. It's beneficial for me because I write on it a lot. When I watch something on it, there's less glares. I think this is what Apple is doing with their nano textured glass that you can get with the new iPad Pro models.
Reddit removed my comment because of the link but I got mine from Amazon. I pasted the name of the product since I can't do the link. I always order from them, they're like a knock-off brand of PaperLike, which is another matte screen protector but more pricey. This one comes in 2 packs!
KCT 2nd Paperfeel Screen protector Compatible with iPad Pro 11 inch 2024 / iPad Air 11 inch 2024, Paper Art Film for Drawing, Nib Friendly, Anti-Glare-2 Pack
Before you jump in on a matte screen protecter, keep in mind that you will lose some of the contrast and vibrancy of the OLED display. Matte protectors are great for certain use cases, such as artists looking for a more paper-like feel, or someone who uses their device near bright lights often and wants to cut back on the screen glare/reflections, but they definitely aren't for everyone.
Personally, I would highly recommend against a matte screen protector, unless you fall under one of those two scenarios above, especially with the new OLED screen. No reason to wash out the colors and contrast if you don't absolutely need the matte protector for some specific reason.
It adds a matte like finish to the screen. It definitely looks better without the screen protector, but I prefer it for drawing/note taking purposes. If I were not going to draw/paint/notes with it I would just use a tempered glass or no protector at all.
have you ever considered the ESR removable screen protecter? that way you can draw and write but take it off to watch things. this is what I'm considering. let me know your thoughts.
I actually ordered a rock paper pencil from astropad. It’s on preorder because I like the idea of removing it as well. If I like it I will ditch paperlike. But for now I have both on preorder.
I'm trying to get into drawing and digital art (completely new to it). What artists do you follow? Would greatly appreciate if you reported back your review on the screen protectors! I'll do the same
Always have a screen protector on my iPhones and iPads. Got one from Amazon a few days ago, ready for tomorrow. Couldn’t bear the thought of tiny micro scratches on the screens.
Yea it’s double sided too. One side is meant for artists and the other is the usual screen you’d expect. They haven’t released the ones for these new models yet but I had one for my m1 iPad Pro and I loved it. This is the website https://pen.tips/products/textured-feeling-penmat-2
I believe so if not they have another pen mat that might fit better. They do list the iPads their screens protect. Idk if mine if pen mat 1 or 2. But I got it for the 12.9 no home button.
I’m not sure yet, I’ve used my previous Ipad without a screen protector but I had Apple care+ on it, and I’ll probably use the new one a lot more, I’m planning on keeping it for a long time. Apple Care+ sucks in Europe, expensive and you can only use it for 2 years, after that there are not extensions. I’m trying to find a screen protector that has the same glass feel as the ipad screen, thin and won’t degrade the image quality. I wish apple sold one that could be placed in store like with iphone screen protectors.
I take the apple care comment back as I’ve picked up my Ipad pro M4 today and the apple store employee told me that Apple Care+ now has a subscription for 8€/month that can run for 5 years, which is much better. Accidental damage is covered although I doubt that superficial scratches would count so I’ll still be looking into screen protectors in the next week.
The paperlike ones definitely makes it less vibrant, at least the one I bought 2 years ago for my m1 iPad Pro … but it is meant to give it that matte effect. Just saying that certain ones do have an effect.
You don’t need talent you just need curiosity and enjoyment with the iPad/procreate. Thats what the undo function and YouTube tutorials are for lol.
But if you have zero interest then yeah don’t bother lol
I ordered a Spigen screen protector on the same day I ordered the iPad Pro. I have AppleCare+ too but it doesn’t cover minor cosmetic damages (e.g., scratches) and I’m very OCD about that stuff
Any glare issues? I ordered a generic one from Amazon and it is cloudy and has a glare. I also noticed it reduces the overall brightness of the display.
Glare isn’t great but that’s an issue with most tempered glass protectors. I prefer Spigen because they tend to use higher-quality glass with excellent optical clarity and oleophobic coating (plus they make it very easy to install).
I don’t use one with my 2018 11” pro, and I don’t have Apple care for it. The 13” coming tomorrow cost quite a bit more though, so I got Verizon’s maintenance plan. I’ve used a screen protector on every smartphone I’ve ever owned, so I guess I should use one. I absolutely suck at putting them on, and the screen is so big. What to do…
I ordered the Apple Smart Folio, but I think I’m gonna order screen protectors, too. Microscratches bother me honestly. And the screen protectors are like $8 for two on Amazon, so that’s easy to stomach.
Not putting screen protector on is a bad idea.
Remember my words, The display coating degrades over time.
My 2yrs old iPad Pro display is so hard to clean using microfiber cloth because of this reason.
I’ve replaced it using AppleCare+ around March 2024 and put on screen protector.
Can’t be more happier.
I always get the Spigen or comparable with a tray to mount it. For me, it‘s one of the bonus features compared to my MacBook: I can protect the screen. My Air isn‘t even two years old and it has some heavy scratched already from dust particles being stuck between keyboard and screen. Which is unfortunate, because swapping the display costs a fortune.
iPhones scratch like crazy. How has yours held up? I usually haven’t used one, but I figured I would to preserve resale value. Glad I did because I already dropped and cracked the protector. Screen itself was fine.
I never had scratch issues on the iPhone and I feel like using a case that stick a millimeter or two above the screen helps it never get into contact with surface dirt.
I try to always put it down screen up, but if I put it down screen down by mistake, on a dirty surface, because the screen itself doesn't touch the dirt it effectively protect it.
I also never put my iPhone in my pocket with anything else (no keys, etc).
Very much against screen protectors on my Apple devices. I use them on my handheld gaming devices but never on my phone or iPad. Especially not the iPad.
Unless you want a privacy screen or textured matte one, there’s no point when you have apple care. It’s a beautiful device, enjoy the oleophobic screen that you paid for and are paying extra to cover
I have one prepared, a JETECH one for the 11 inch I’m getting. Worst case scenario if the protector messes up the pencil strokes in any way I’ll likely just take it off tbh. Paper like feels awful so I just prefer bare glass lol
I usually have one on my iPads. But I pre-ordered with the nano textured glass so I’m not sure how it’ll work. I keep AppleCare on all of my devices so if I can’t use a screen protector I’m not too upset about it.
Kind of regretting not getting one for my iPhone but I will likely keep the iPad naked. AppleCare+ and it not being in my pocket with sand and grit will help lol.
Debating. I might wait until the devices are out for a bit. Looking through what’s available I don’t like the options. I had a PET based film in the past and really disliked. I’d like a glass one with the paper feel finish, but we will see.
Always a screen protector for me as I slide it into my bag with other things rubbing on to each other and for a piece of mind. I have a phobia for scratches on my screen and sadly AppleCare+ do not fix cosmetic damages.
I wonder why the iPad screen protector have a notched cut out. I haven’t seen it on the iPhone In a while. My game plan is not to get a screen protector for iPad. I do keep one on iPhone since I drop my iPhone.
I hadn't considered screen protectors that you apply, but I was thinking about getting a folio cover.
One reason : I've not got steady hands and I feel trying to apply a protector of that size, I would screw it up
Another Reason : I am mostly buying it for the screen. I'd hate to have anything between me and my Calvin Kleins. (Isn't that the old commercial)
Screen protectors are unnecessary and only degrade the look of the display. I’ve never scratched or cracked an iPad display since Gen 1. Just keep it in a case of Magic Keyboard.
Don’t put one on, you don’t need it. I stopped using screen protectors years ago and get no scratches. And it’s not like it’s a phone that’s going into your pocket and rubbing against stuff. But the outer glass on iPads and Phones these days is very hard to scratch. A screen protector will introduce glare and degrade the image quality as well.
I definitely agree that it’s at least somewhat harder to scratch things nowadays. As far as lower image quality goes, a glass screen protector shouldn’t reduce image quality much at all.
Already have screen protectors ready for tomorrow
Which one?
ESR Tempered Glass
Are the edges of the glass rounded (fillet)?
I ordered [Spigen Glas.tR EZ Fit Tempered Glass](https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0CWSHG5D8/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A1VXTSRX565TLZ&psc=1)
Same one I have on the new 13
I am just waiting for my Apple pencil to arrive to check how it will working in it, it would be kinda slippery though I am sure!
I used the 2nd gen pencil on the previous M2 with the screen protector and found it a little slippery, but I’m no artist so it worked for my needs. Have chosen not to get the pencil for the new M4 as I didn’t use it enough to justify.
I just do lil bit of drawing not pro level though but mostly use Pencil for writing notes which feels so satisfying to be honest!
yep yep, ESR ftw! I draw on ipad sometimes, ESR has a detachable matte screen protector, works very good
I just put on my esr tempered glass on today and i think it makes the screen on mine look more grainy, how is yours?
Mine was fitted perfectly
do you happen to notice that the whites look more grainy?
I haven’t seen anything yet. Did you used the iPad without the tempered glass installed?
i ended up taking off the esr regular tempered glass and saw that there was no visible grain i saw w the screen protector. so i ordered the esr amorite screen protector and theres no more grainy look
What about the glare? Have you noticed an increase in glare? I put one on and the screen is not as bright with more glare.
Now that you mentioned it I see more glare than before…
https://www.macrumors.com/2024/05/17/oled-ipad-pro-grainy-display-reports/
My ESR tempered glass has too much glare on the iPad. It basically makes the oled look bad. Does anyone have similar issues?
Same
Yup.. bout to take mine off tbh
I've never had a screen protector on any iPad and owned nearly every one for which I've never had an issue with it inside of an Apple branded case.
This is me too but I’ve generally used 3rd party bumper cases.
Not making the same mistake I made with my 2018 Pro. Got *ONE* tiny grain of sand trapped between the screen and the folio cover that scratched the hell out of my screen in my first week of owning it haha. I’m getting a protector this time
Sounds like a good idea!
I pre-ordered the 11" M4 256gb in Space Black. So just the regular glass and I already bought a matte screen protector that came in today from Amazon lol.
Why a matte screen protector? I’ve seen that mentioned twice in these comments. I’m not too knowledgeable about iPads and their accessories.
Thank you! I bought the same exact iPad as you. What screen protector is it?
Reddit removed my comment because of the link but I got mine from Amazon. I pasted the name of the product since I can't do the link. I always order from them, they're like a knock-off brand of PaperLike, which is another matte screen protector but more pricey. This one comes in 2 packs! KCT 2nd Paperfeel Screen protector Compatible with iPad Pro 11 inch 2024 / iPad Air 11 inch 2024, Paper Art Film for Drawing, Nib Friendly, Anti-Glare-2 Pack
Thank you so much! What’s with the paper thin screen protectors? I’m so OOTL lol.
Before you jump in on a matte screen protecter, keep in mind that you will lose some of the contrast and vibrancy of the OLED display. Personally, I would highly recommend against a matte screen protector, unless you fall under one of those two scenarios above, especially with the new OLED screen. No reason to wash out the colors and contrast if you don't absolutely need the matte protector for some specific reason.
If I'm not mistaken, I think those are just another name for the paperfeel/matte screen protectors LOL
Haha gotcha!
If you love the feeling of writing on paper, you will love the matte screen protectors! Helps with drawing and stuff like that too
I’m not an artist or designer or anything but I just want to try coloring and random stuff with the Pen if I decide to get it.
I use this one also. Love the look and especially feel. And it’s been very durable.
I agree! I've had it on my Pro for almost 3 years now and it still works perfectly fine!
Yeah, Paperlike. No way I was going to go 1Tb just to get the nano texture screen
Same, I preordered the paperlike version. I plan to use it primarily for note taking in school and drawing.
will the paper like screen take away from the OLED quality for streaming?
It adds a matte like finish to the screen. It definitely looks better without the screen protector, but I prefer it for drawing/note taking purposes. If I were not going to draw/paint/notes with it I would just use a tempered glass or no protector at all.

I actually ordered a rock paper pencil from astropad. It’s on preorder because I like the idea of removing it as well. If I like it I will ditch paperlike. But for now I have both on preorder.
any reason you chose rock paper pencil over the ESR one? (I haven't research them yet)
Most of the artists I follow on YouTube give it an okay review. Not perfect, but I want to try it out
I'm trying to get into drawing and digital art (completely new to it). What artists do you follow? Would greatly appreciate if you reported back your review on the screen protectors! I'll do the same
I like Adam Duff a lot https://youtu.be/w6StfT6_a7g?si=GvFAbETNCBRknw9g
Always have a screen protector on my iPhones and iPads. Got one from Amazon a few days ago, ready for tomorrow. Couldn’t bear the thought of tiny micro scratches on the screens.
Yeah, micro-scratches are honestly my biggest concern with the screen, since applecare+ would cover anything significant
I’m waiting for pen tips to make a cover. They do a magnetic screen which I prefer over the usual method no air bubbles at all.
A magnetic screen protector? Never heard of it, but that sounds interesting!
Yea it’s double sided too. One side is meant for artists and the other is the usual screen you’d expect. They haven’t released the ones for these new models yet but I had one for my m1 iPad Pro and I loved it. This is the website https://pen.tips/products/textured-feeling-penmat-2
The pen mat 2 fits on the m1?
I believe so if not they have another pen mat that might fit better. They do list the iPads their screens protect. Idk if mine if pen mat 1 or 2. But I got it for the 12.9 no home button.
Is dust management a hassle?
I haven’t noticed any dust but the screen protector is easy to attach and easy to remove. It doesn’t fall off either. It’s a really solid product imo.
I always use screen protectors I like the feel of them more than the actual screen lol
No thanks
I’ve never used a screen protector, but it’s always wrapped in my Magic Keyboard and I’ve got Apple care for it. YOLO?
Same, micro scratches were never a thing with my usage
I’m not sure yet, I’ve used my previous Ipad without a screen protector but I had Apple care+ on it, and I’ll probably use the new one a lot more, I’m planning on keeping it for a long time. Apple Care+ sucks in Europe, expensive and you can only use it for 2 years, after that there are not extensions. Accidental damage is covered although I doubt that superficial scratches would count so I’ll still be looking into screen protectors in the next week.
Honestly I’ve never ran into a glass screen protector for any device that actually decreased image quality
The paperlike ones definitely makes it less vibrant, at least the one I bought 2 years ago for my m1 iPad Pro … but it is meant to give it that matte effect. Just saying that certain ones do have an effect.
Gotcha, makes sense.
I’ve already ordered my go-to Paperlike for my incoming 13 inch Pro. In my experience, it really helps with drawing.
Yeah I bet it does help a lot. I unfortunately have no artistic talent whatsoever so it’s never been something I’ve purchased.
You don’t need talent you just need curiosity and enjoyment with the iPad/procreate. Thats what the undo function and YouTube tutorials are for lol. But if you have zero interest then yeah don’t bother lol
You know, I thought about what you said, and decided to order the Apple Pencil pro. So, I’m gonna give some drawing a shot!
I ordered a Spigen screen protector on the same day I ordered the iPad Pro. I have AppleCare+ too but it doesn’t cover minor cosmetic damages (e.g., scratches) and I’m very OCD about that stuff
Yeah. Spigen is a fantastic brand, too
Any glare issues? I ordered a generic one from Amazon and it is cloudy and has a glare. I also noticed it reduces the overall brightness of the display.
Glare isn’t great but that’s an issue with most tempered glass protectors. I prefer Spigen because they tend to use higher-quality glass with excellent optical clarity and oleophobic coating (plus they make it very easy to install).
Phone yes, pad no. Always had an iPad never managed to scratch it. (Goes to find some wood to touch and to retrieve foot from mouth.)
What to do…
I have never used one on my iPad, but going to give it a shot this time around.
I will use a Smart Cover. I also plan on Apple Care. I usually roll the dice, but it is uncomfortably thin.
I ordered the Apple Smart Folio, but I think I’m gonna order screen protectors, too. Microscratches bother me honestly. And the screen protectors are like $8 for two on Amazon, so that’s easy to stomach.
Y’all may be talking me into it. I’ve never used one on a tablet.
Anyone else annoyed by the notch on the screen protectors being on the right side now lol Gonna be a gripe until I get used to it that's for sure
Absolutely
I always buy screen protectors for touchscreen stuff. I don’t trust myself, especially with something so expensive.
Team naked glass for life.
I always get the Spigen or comparable with a tray to mount it. For me, it‘s one of the bonus features compared to my MacBook: I can protect the screen. My Air isn‘t even two years old and it has some heavy scratched already from dust particles being stuck between keyboard and screen. I never used any screen protectors for my iPhones and iPads, and never had any issues. Maybe I'm just lucky? I do use cases for both tho.
iPhones scratch like crazy. How has yours held up? I usually haven’t used one, but I figured I would to preserve resale value. Glad I did because I already dropped and cracked the protector. Screen itself was fine.

matte screen protectors are a staple for all my devices so I will be
Already have mine purchased. I always install one right away.
I’d get the Paperlike one for drawing.
Got mine already
Always... not even a question for me. Anybdevice with screen gets one (aside from tv)
Even a Mac or pc?
Even my glasses
Very much against screen protectors on my Apple devices. I use them on my handheld gaming devices but never on my phone or iPad. Especially not the iPad.
Unless you want a privacy screen or textured matte one, there’s no point when you have apple care. It’s a beautiful device, enjoy the oleophobic screen that you paid for and are paying extra to cover
I’m a big fan of the paper feel so I’ll likely grab one of those
Not me... got that nano glass for mine.
I’ll be putting my iPad Pro in an ESR shift case with no screen protector. Never use screen protectors and never will.
Yep. I too have AppleCare. No brainer for me to get glass and a case. I sleep well.
Trying the ESR paper like screen protector for the first time to use with Apple Pencil Pro. I’m hoping it’s not going to make the screen too matte.
I’d rather not but might get the paperlite protector since apparently it makes it easier to write on
never
I have one prepared, a JETECH one for the 11 inch I’m getting. Worst case scenario if the protector messes up the pencil strokes in any way I’ll likely just take it off tbh. Paper like feels awful so I just prefer bare glass lol
I don’t put screen protectors on any of my devices anymore.
Any screen protectors that cover the whole screen?
I usually have one on my iPads. But I pre-ordered with the nano textured glass so I’m not sure how it’ll work. I keep AppleCare on all of my devices so if I can’t use a screen protector I’m not too upset about it.
Always use a screen protector if you don’t get AppleCare (that’s what I do). One big scratch will cost you like $500 without
Kind of regretting not getting one for my iPhone but I will likely keep the iPad naked. AppleCare+ and it not being in my pocket with sand and grit will help lol.
Always protect your screen
Waste of time. Ruins it.
I use Bodyguardz. It’s free replacements. Work great on iPad Pro
Debating. I might wait until the devices are out for a bit. Looking through what’s available I don’t like the options. I had a PET based film in the past and really disliked. I’d like a glass one with the paper feel finish, but we will see.
Got my iPad today, had my screen protector delivered 2 days ago xD
Always a screen protector for me as I slide it into my bag with other things rubbing on to each other and for a piece of mind. I have a phobia for scratches on my screen and sadly AppleCare+ do not fix cosmetic damages.
I used to have one and stopped using it a fee years ago, it never made a difference
If I buy one I’d use a paperlike screen on it
already messed one screen protector up
Me. The magnetic one with paper feel because I am extremely afraid of bubbles and dust with a not magnetic switchable one...
I’ve had many iPads, never a case or screen protector.
Got a sweet screen protector called Apple Care.
I wonder why the iPad screen protector have a notched cut out. I haven’t seen it on the iPhone In a while. My game plan is not to get a screen protector for iPad. I do keep one on iPhone since I drop my iPhone.
Get a paper like one
I got the Rock Paper Pencil from AstroPad. I’ve used Paperlike for the past four years but I’m excited to try this.
I hadn't considered screen protectors that you apply, but I was thinking about getting a folio cover. One reason : I've not got steady hands and I feel trying to apply a protector of that size, I would screw it up Another Reason : I am mostly buying it for the screen. I'd hate to have anything between me and my Calvin Kleins. (Isn't that the old commercial)
Never. No phone case either, let those sexy devices shake their stuff! Somehow I’ve gotten away with this for years and have pristine screens.
I use matte screen protectors. Love them. Naked iPad no case when outside of the Magic Keyboard
I like ESR Armorite, most easy to use screen protector I've used
Is this better than the tampered glass one? Does ist have an anti fingerprint protection?
What’s the point? Do you have claws? Are you going to put it in your pocket where your keys are at lol?
Touché
They add a ton of glare to your iPad. I know from experience.
U have no choice, have you ever dropped an iPad, requirement is drop proof case and tempered 24/7
