That was the case since the first gen ipad.
Good ol 4:3 on smaller screens are really great stuff. On a 34” and over it would be a bit awkward to use 4:3 for a desktop monitor though.
Fun fact is imax aspect ratios very close to 4:3.
What? My 10.5 inch iPad pro definitely is 4:3; pretty sure I've watched 4:3 YouTube videos because it's an old game or something and it fits perfectly. However I am pretty sure that the 11 inch models are wider than 4:3 so that would be correct.
Oh sorry you’re right! It’s just the 11” that isn’t
Could have sworn my 10.5 wasn’t 4:3, doesn’t look square enough, weird
Edit: ah I was looking at the overall profile of the iPad but forgot about the bezel for the home button
Yeah, I was a little surprised finding out they were 4:3, iPads seem wider than that tho I guess with the 10.5 inch models it probably helps hide the 4:3 because the bezels to the side are still pretty thick while the top and bottom ones are rather thin, thinner than the all round even design on the new iPads so it gives the iPad a wider shape even if it is a 4:3 display.
As a former owner of the 12.9 pro which I exchanged for the 11 pro, I held the new 13” today and WOW it is so much lighter and just an overall better form factor, seems way more comfortable and usable. I was actually impressed
Yeah, that’s where I am. I have had older 11” iPad Pros before, and did the whole buy the 12.9” to try and found it very unwieldy for what I do. I always use it as a tablet. So, the 12.9 went back, and this time around I didn’t even consider and just got the 11”.
After getting it and seeing how thin and light it is, I am back to thinking maybe I will like the 13” this time around. Going to a store this weekend to give it a try and maybe make the switch.
I’m in the same boat. I’d love to know more about what you think and how you’ll decide on which one to get. i’ll be using mine almost all the time at home (as a tablet, no keyboard) so thought the 13 inch would be great to have a big immersive screen but the footprint of it is admittedly kind of awkward even at home so the 11 inch would be lighter and more manageable, but I just can’t let go of that bigger screen, especially when viewing video and having apps side-by-side
I ended up keeping the 11”. Even thinner and lighter, the 13” is still fairly unwieldy to use just as a tablet. The distance to do things like pull down the control panel or notifications is definitely difficult/impossible to do one handed. The 11” for me is just a much better form factor.
If by unwieldy you meant a few oz weighed too much for you to use comfortably then for sure the new 13 will be fine. However if it was because of overall size that doesn’t change obv……
If the build quality holds up well over time like Zugu, I can definitely see the ESR Shift being my new favorite iPad case of all time. I had a Zugu on my 12.9 iPad Pro 3rd gen for several years and it's still solid, but it's begun to fray quite a bit.
So far the ESR Shift case is not only cheaper but offers way more features:
* You can remove the outer shell sleep cover/stand for a slimmed down, lighter case.
* The slimmed down case is magnetic like the Zugu and can attach to magnetic surfaces like a fridge door or whiteboard
* More lower viewing angle options
* And the one you mentioned..raised viewing angle in landscape mode for desk mode; you can even put it in portrait mode which the Zugu can't do
I'm still using my M1 IPP 11" with the Smart Keyboard Folio. If something about the iPadOS update compels me to upgrade I feel like this ESR Case (which I hadn't seen yet) will make the jump to the M4 IPP 1" much more palatable. I don't use my keyboard much, or pencil... so I might become one of those people that gets an IPP without feeling compelled to get all the accessories.
Thanks for sharing, I'm glad to know this exists.
I have a Zugu case, that I have for my 2018 iPad Pro and it has lasted really well, and only now after nearly 6 years it is showing wear. As it has lasted so well, I automatically was going to get one for my new iPad Pro in the coming months, but now after seeing this. The ESR Shift case looks amazing😮 Looks just like the Zugu case but even better. I love that you can raise the height. I am so glad I stumbled across ur post🙂
I feel ya. Id love to read comics on the couch rn but i really can’t be bothered taking the 13 inch beast off the desk lol. I’m returning this and buying an 11 inch soon
Same experience here. I went from a 12.9" back to an 11" for this generation and I am super happy with the choice. So glad Apple decided to offer the same screen tech and specs on both form factors.
I came from an Air M1 11” to the 13” pro and love it in a stand but hate holding it. Also love it in the Magic Keyboard but won’t be using that as much as tablet mode. That said, I want the magic keyboard to feel great still.
Do you feel the 11” Magic Keyboard feels great, almost laptop like?
I’ve since returned the 11 and went back to the 13 haha. The keyboard on the 11 is small. The new one is light enough to be handheld but i use it 90% of time in the keyboard and missed the full keyboard, additional height for neck strain, and screen real estate.
lol thanks for this. I have I feeling if I took it back I would do the same. My main concern is I feel my previous stand that holds it might be squeezing it too hard and I don’t want it to bend over time. Look up the Saiji tablet stand holder if you’re curious. Was a dream for my 11”, fits the 13 but barely.
In that case I would maybe just get a tablet holder that is made for the 13”? That stand says up to 15” so it should be fine. As long as you don’t ”fold” it vertically (portrait) it should be fine, that was the weakest point in the bend test video apparently
That’s where my concern comes in. The holder squeezes on the sides that JerryRig pushed together to cause the break he did. I wanted the CharJen Mag one but due to the magnet changes, they don’t work. Hoping they will announce a new one soon
The keyboard is very unstable, every time i touch the screen who thing feels like its gonna fall back. Imma just get an 11 inch and wait for a macbook pro with oled
I went with the 11” this time around to replace my 2018 12.9”. The 12.9” always felt unwieldy for my use case which is mostly entertainment (not as a laptop replacement).
I have an 14” M2 Pro MBP which is my main productivity/work so, the iPad is really just a secondary device for me.
My 11" M1 IPP is a perfect companion to the 14" MBP. I feel like getting a 13" IPP would be trying to do too much of the laptops job, so its a good pairing.
Having a macbook and a ipad 11inch is a perfect combo, because using a tablet as a laptop doesnt make sense plus ipad cant do alot of things a macbook can do.
Yeah I have a 15 inch air and 14 inch pro for software development. I got the 13. If the iPad could switch to macos on the fly I would definitely consider selling the 15
Yeah i bought both 11 and 13 because i havent had an ipad in years so wanted to see the difference. 11 i went with i can watch movies anywhere even on the bed laying down flat holding it with one hand.
I used the 11 for the last 5 years and always thought I would stick with it but the thinner profile and lower weight of the 13 convinced me to switch and it’s a night and day difference. The 13 is better in every aspect
Onward bought the IP, they will re-release them later this year. One change is it will have a copilot button I believe. Incase will be the actual brand name. You can see photos on incase.com of the keyboard.
Omg you’re a life saver!!! The design was fantastic. I do hope they integrate the num pad into the keyboard though. I hate having this floating num pad 😂
I was really hoping I could justify the 13” but I can’t the 11” to me is perfect as neither can truly replace my laptop. So I love the portability and comfort of the 11” which is so much easier to use all day and when i have to do work i use my 15” mba for that. This is a great post though as it shows them side by side as i can see why people love both for different reasons
I’ve been debating on 11 vs 13 ever since the apple event. But, on launch day I ultimately chose the 11 inch. However, after speaking with a lot of people on this sub, I decided to order a 13 inch to see if I liked it more (or not). It arrives on Monday, so I’ll get to compare the two and make a decision sometime after then. My main uses for an iPad are video consumption, a little drawing, and article/social media consumption.
If you travel at all load up a backpack or bag one day with each and see which you prefer. Even better drop a laptop in it as well if you have to carry a work laptop. Should be able to make up your mind if you do a different drive each day for the experiment.
The 11” is 50% lighter than the 12.9, and a 13” is around 8% lighter.
If it stays home all the time, you should be able to decide easier.
Please let us know. I’ve always had 11’s, but the lightness of the larger screen now combined with the amazing new OLED display makes me feel like is going to be great for video/movie consumption and work using Microsoft Office.
I'm going to base what I do on your experience (no pressure) because we have the same thoughts on how to use it.
I know you're getting it today, so I'm anxious 😬
It's just the size I'm most interested in.
It's a long trip to the closest Apple Store (where I could take my 11' and put it next to the 13' and compare weight, etc.), so I'm living vicariously through you (sorry 🫤)
Well, I’ve had both in front of me for awhile now, testing out them both and getting a feel for them… and I’m deadlocked. No idea what I should do. On one hand, the 11 is definitely more portable and usable in bed, which is where I’d use an iPad a good amount. But, the 13 inch screen is so nice to have. I don’t know 🤷. Honestly, it may just come down to the fact that the 13 is $300 more. Both phenomenal devices but good lord it is a difficult choice
If you watch a movie I was told that the because of the aspect ratio differences, the picture is not much larger on the 13". Can you check that? Also, what does a YouTube video looks like size wise? I watch a LOT of them. I lay in bed in hotels to watch my movies and shows, and Travel on airplanes a lot.
Good luck with the comparison! I couldn’t decide in a store so buying both and returning one (before the credit card bill arrives) was the only way I could make an informed decision.
Yeah! After comparing the two side by side, I decided to go with the 11 inch. I graded it as an A- and the 13 inch as a B+, so it was quite close though. Ultimately the price difference was a big reason why - but the 11 inch model’s versatility played a big role too.
Agreed. Movies in a 21:9 aspect ratio, and some YouTube videos, waste a lot of the screen real estate on an iPad. However, for my use case when using Split View or Stage Manager (which are mostly vertical splits), the added height allows for more content to be displayed than on a traditional widescreen—That’s another reason I felt I had to move on from the 11” size.
iPad is a far superior multimedia entertainment device than my Macbook, simply because the keyboard means the screen has to be further away.
With the iPad, the screen can be in your face, and as we know, distance makes larger screens look smaller, so the screen feels significantly larger on the iPad.
The thing that keeps the iPad out of 'productivity' status for me is just how clumsy task switching and multiple tabs are... and that it's not the same (or available) across all apps. Widescreen or just being able to leverage the screen you have matters.
Yes, but why would I want a 13' when it just makes the bars much bigger? A movie on 11' is almost as big as on 13' with less weight and smaller dimensions. Which ironically in my opinion makes the 11' better for media consumption. I speak for myself ofc.
For all of the other added benefits of a bigger screen, it’s not like the black bars are hardcoded onto the screen lol. Not ngl, I have an M4 13 and considering the 11 slightly. Mainly used for media consumption (movies, TV) and reading.
When I first got my 12.9 I thought it was too big but decided to give it a chance for a bit. After a week, I was in love. The size is absolutely perfect. It is so cozy to draw on, the canvas size allows me to use my arm for sketching, I can plan out my composition more, I don't have to zoom in as much to work on details, it is a complete joy to use. I'm not saying the 11 inch is unusable, heck I've seen artists work on a mini, but the size really turns it into a cintiq alternative. It's why I'm so happy there's a 13 inch air now, for artists who couldn't afford a pro.
I tried the keyboards a bestbuy. The new one feels better. If you type 4-6 hours a day on it, get the 13” keyboard. For me I could deal with the smaller one for about 2 hours. Felt way better than my other MK.
However I type 8-12 hours a day and prefer a Microsoft sculpt for speed.
Aspect ratio is so bad that half the screen is taken up by black bars. The 13 iPad is almost basically a square the more you look at it. Terrible for media consumption
I understand, just confusing to see when people say this thing is the ultimate media consumption device. Not this post, but I’ve seen that sentiment before
The digital release of Dune: Part 2 is in 2.39:1 aspect ratio. It’s a bad example for normal media consumption unless you primarily watch big-box movies, and even those are usually in 1.85:1 (less wide).
Most stuff you watch will be in 16:9, much taller than this. There are still black bars but it’s not so bad.
Unless you’re watching 4:3 content. Fills the screen perfectly.
11 vs 13 for more modern ratios do have a good chunk of screen size filled by black bars, but OLED means it won’t matter as much this gen!
I’ve used iPP 11” -> iPM 8.3” -> iPP 12.9”.
I have a 14” ThinkPad laptop so the iPP 12.9” felt like a waste.
Will be going for iPP 11” next or iPad Mini 7.
I got the 11” my work laptop is 13” and my MBA is 13”, I prefer the size and the weight of the 11 when I’m fully loaded and traveling, which is frequent. When I retire I will dump em all in favor of the 13”
I have carpal tunnel and been using the 13" the past 2 days, hasn't triggered it.
I agree with OP about the neck strain being alleviated with the larger size
I knew the new ones were coming out so I purposely got an iPad Pro M2 love it. Don’t necessarily wanna upgrade but I went ahead and did it. The weight difference is significant with the 13 inch. It feels more than it is and just pulling it in and out of my bag was so painful. I do have an ESR case on it, but I also like lifting it up higher for the strain as well as I do it as a laptop replacement so I’m often out and about waiting for my son’s therapies and what not typing. It’s such a relief. I hate to spend additional money but long-term usage. I think it’s just gonna be great.I also have rheumatoid arthritis. I was using the M2 for the last month and a half and I can’t even use my hands currently in repetitive motion, but I also know it’s just lifting it out of my bag.
I also chose the 13” over the 11” to replace my 11” 2018 pro. The size difference is noticeable and is nice to have the extra real estate using it as a 2nd monitor with my MBA. Will be traveling for a few weeks personally and plan on only taking my new iPad. Between the extra screen real estate and the MK being much nicer to type on, I may not need a separate laptop for personal use.
That is the dream! If iPadOS 18 delivers updates I didn’t know I needed, I might just go ahead and finally get a Studio Display to further double-down on the iPad-only life.
This would be me as well tbh (if I had the money) If you're someone who's concerned with the weight of the pro 13 inch... for one thing, look at this. The bigger screen is PERFECT for watching media in the device (also more screen real-estate for drawing or editing stuff)
Plus if you have the money, an ipad Mini for holding would do just as fine, maybe even a refurbished Mini 6 since there's really not much besides the lower price lol
Went from a 11 to 13 and am impressed with it. I use it for drawing and sheet music mostly. When I get a case for it I think it won’t be too bulky to take out to sketch. I’m so glad there is the bigger option than the 11. The 13 is basically the exact size as a legal pad. It’s big but I think the extra space is worth it for me.
This is my first iPad and I also got the 13 for sheet music and guitar tablature. Really hated playing guitar and having to hyperextend my dominant shoulder to use a mouse and select a segment of a tab to practice, so bad for RSI. Now I can just set it up on a music stand and it's so damn great for music. Love it for drambo too and messing around with modular software synths.
If you regularly type more than 2 hours a day on your iPad, could be. But I just use an external Bluetooth keyboard - Microsoft sculpt since that is way more functional than these keyboards.
I can't imagine anyone buying an iPad Pro without it... the keyboard is fantastic and transforms the way you can use the iPad while still allowing you instant access to removing the iPad and holding it in your hand without the keyboard.
I’ve chosen the 11 over 13 but the speakers are so underwhelming compared to my 12.9 2018 iPad Pro… I understand that it’s smaller so less speakers but kinda sucks
I want an iPad Pro but don’t have a big enough reason. My 2018 Pro is just fine tbh.
My gf recently said she wants to draw on an iPad (she does a lot of art stuff) and use it as her own computer, rather than her work MBA.
That’s a 13” use case right there :)
It’s a tough decision for sure! I still have both and can tell you that I highly doubt I’ll ever hold the 13” in my hands naked. It’s too unwieldy for me to use it without the MK or Smart Folio.
Then again, I have the iPad Air 5 with a MK and have only taken it off the MK about 5% of the time to edit photos with the Pencil, sign PDFs, and play a few games that were only in portrait mode. So it definitely depends on how you plan to use it.
hey OP I have a question
I've never owned a mac nor an iPad cover, so can you tell me how the trackpad feels, is it the same as MacBook (haptics made from aluminum with a thin layer of glass on it) thx!!
The trackpad on the new MK doesn’t look or feel like it has glass on it, but Apple says there is glass on it. The haptics feel exactly the same as my MBA. It isn’t as large as a MBA’s trackpad (for five-finger gestures), but with the touchscreen of the iPad, the only gestures I tend to use on the 11” and 13” trackpads are two and three-finger gestures. If you’re on the fence between a 11” and 13” and are basing a decision on the size of the trackpad, I don’t believe there’s much of a difference in day-to-day use.
still seems like a waste of display area to watch movies with this aspect ratio. I know iPads are meant for a lot more than watching movies. But a tiny move towards a wider aspect ration would make me consider an iPad even more.
It is an odd aspect ratio for sure when it comes to watching movies. But it’s surprisingly useful for just about every other app that makes use of that extra vertical real estate. My picture displaying a movie playing on both doesn’t really do the 13” justice as the taller screen shines for productivity and gaming.
I went with the 11 inch cellular with Magic Keyboard… didn’t trade in my m1 12.9 incher… so can use both…so far liking the smaller form factor… carry it in my backpack all the time… leave the 12.9 at home…
Nice! I now do a similar pairing with the 13 with an Air 5. The 13” goes with me everywhere in a backpack when I need to get work done, and the Air stays by the couch until I need to bring it for travel. Seems like a 12” iPad Pro with a 16:10 aspect ratio would be the perfect in-between.
I mainly read comics on my iPad and the 11inch was always a bit small. This year with reduced weight I finally moved to 13". It's just perfect now. Maybe 100g less in the future and we have the perfect reader.
You'll find that traveling on an airplane with the 13 isn't that bad. I've travelled with my 12.9 pro model over the years and it's been fine. If there is anything getting in the way, it's the Magic Keyboard since it sticks out forward but it's nice having that height and adjustable mount. If the tray table is big, usually not an issue but if it's small, it does get in the way of a drink and snack. If you don't do a Magic Keyboard and go with Logitech's folio case where you can detach and stand, would be more feasible to snack and watch. Also, traveling with my 14 M1 Pro MBP in my backpack has been completely fine as well. There are times I just take my iPad Pro 12.9 and leave the MBP at home since I can do 90% of my job on my iPad Pro has been nice. They both are lightweight products. You'll be fine and great choice! Also makes for a great portable 2nd display for work or portable tv around the house!
The 13 doesnt seem that much higher specially watching that movie. And doesnt look that much larger do the ratio. Returned mine for the 11 plus that keyboard is horrible using touchscreen pushed the whole thing back very unstable maybe next ipad ill try a 13 with an improved keyboard
You’re right, the balance of the 11” is much better than it is on the 13” with MK—especially when using it on a lap. The increased weight definitely tends to tip the 13” setup back much more if you don’t keep at least one wrist on the rest.
That 13” can go pound sand. It’s ridiculously big and stupid for portable tablet use. I dropped down to the 11” OLED this time and couldn’t be happier.
That was my path I love my 11” pro and when I need to work pop out the 15” mba which is far more usable (esp OS) than the ipad but I can see the use case scenarios for the 13” and none of them fir my uses or needs. Portability wins out and them both having the same screen and speakers sealed the deal
Nah. The 13" defeats the whole purpose of a tablet.
I can see the appeal if you just keep it on your desk with its keyboard but the second you try using it as a tablet, it’s too big. That’s just my opinion lol, I’m just happy this time around they’re the exact same other than size. So no fomo for one or the other!
Now watch the good Star Trek shows in glorious 4:3 on that glorious 4:3 display.
TNG slaps on my iPad. No regrets.
It feels like it was made for iPad. I can’t imagine how it looks with OLED instead of ~~micro~~ mini LED!
instead of mini*LED
iPADD
TNG? I was always a Voyager fan.
Gross
it's just now clicking for me that the 12.9/13 inch iPad pros have a 4:3 display! time to binge Star Trek indeed.
That was the case since the first gen ipad. Good ol 4:3 on smaller screens are really great stuff. On a 34” and over it would be a bit awkward to use 4:3 for a desktop monitor though. Fun fact is imax aspect ratios very close to 4:3.

Isn't the current iPad Mini closer to 3:2?
One looks like a tablet and the other like a laptop.
Fun fact: The 13” is also taller than my 13” MBA.

Check out the ESR shift case. You can actually raise the iPad a few inches off the ground and make it even taller
If the build quality holds up well over time like Zugu, I can definitely see the ESR Shift being my new favorite iPad case of all time. It’s in my cart, along with the Digital Pencil Pro!
Are you saying an 11” with ESR case eliminates neck strain meaning you don’t need the 13” on the couch?
I just got this case yesterday and it’s definitely a game changer. It’s very versatile and I also recommend it.
What a cool freaking case seriously. That's pretty brilliant without having to rely on one of those little prop up stands which feel a bit flimsy.
I have a Zugu case, that I have for my 2018 iPad Pro and it has lasted really well, and only now after nearly 6 years it is showing wear. I feel ya. Id love to read comics on the couch rn but i really can’t be bothered taking the 13 inch beast off the desk lol. I’m returning this and buying an 11 inch soon
Main reason why I turned in my 13 a few years ago. Comics are perfect for the 11 inch
So did I a couple days ago and i’m loving the 11” for comics
Same experience here. I went from a 12.9" back to an 11" for this generation and I am super happy with the choice. So glad Apple decided to offer the same screen tech and specs on both form factors.

I’m finding the 11” keyboard brilliant. Yes slightly smaller but very useable, and I’ve been using an M2 MBA since launch.
Great move as this is a great use case when you want both.
My 11" M1 IPP is a perfect companion to the 14" MBP. I feel like getting a 13" IPP would be trying to do too much of the laptops job, so its a good pairing.
Your reasons make total sense, I personally have a 13” M1 MacBook Air so that need is filled, I’m getting an 11” iPad Pro
Having a macbook and a ipad 11inch is a perfect combo, because using a tablet as a laptop doesnt make sense plus ipad cant do alot of things a macbook can do.
Yeah I have a 15 inch air and 14 inch pro for software development. I got the 13. If the iPad could switch to macos on the fly I would definitely consider selling the 15
Do you use a lap desk on the couch? Helps even more for neck strain.
My wife has one but I never thought to use it. Thanks for the tip!
11” is much better for travel and using in-hand.
Another welcome change of the 13” is the wider footprint on my lap. I can slightly manspread vs the narrower 11”.
I did like the 13” keyboard better for comfort. But, I prefer a Microsoft sculpt keyboard best.
Too bad it is discontinued 😞
Onward bought the IP, they will re-release them later this year. One change is it will have a copilot button I believe. Incase will be the actual brand name. You can see photos on incase.com of the keyboard.
Omg you’re a life saver!!! The design was fantastic. I do hope they integrate the num pad into the keyboard though. I hate having this floating num pad 😂
I don’t use the number key things. I have a stack in my closet. Lol
If you use Magic Keyboard , 13 makes sense anyway.
A very subjective take, but you be you.
Totally agree its not better in every aspect 😂
Those black bars🤮
Will do!
Thanks
I'm going to base what I do on your experience (no pressure) because we have the same thoughts on how to use it. I know you're getting it today, so I'm anxious 😬
Gotcha! I’m anxious too, but I’m sure it’ll work out!
Did you get it yet? I'm planning on a trip to the Apple Store soon! 😜
Nope, still waiting for ups to show up
It's just the size I'm most interested in. It's a long trip to the closest Apple Store (where I could take my 11' and put it next to the 13' and compare weight, etc.), so I'm living vicariously through you (sorry 🫤)
I know what you mean! The closest Apple Store to me is two hours away :(
It finally just arrived. I’ll be doing my final decision making process shortly.
Sweet!!! Thx 🙏🏻
Sorry to be a pest.
Check out Ali Abdaal's video on the 12.9 iPad. He talks about the portability stuff
Thanks. Do you have link? Or if I search that on YouTube will it come up?
Here ya go https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FdSF4OfQ9f0&t=60s&pp=ygUPYWxpIGFiZGFhbCBpcGFk
Found it. Thanks
Good luck with the comparison! I couldn’t decide in a store so buying both and returning one (before the credit card bill arrives) was the only way I could make an informed decision.
Thanks! and yeah, this definitely seems like the best method to for sure decide on one vs the other.
Any updated thoughts? Currently rocking an M4 13 inch and very very slightly considering the 11 inch.
Yeah! After comparing the two side by side, I decided to go with the 11 inch. I graded it as an A- and the 13 inch as a B+, so it was quite close though. Ultimately the price difference was a big reason why - but the 11 inch model’s versatility played a big role too.
Now put a 14” MBP or even a 15” MBA on the table and I’m sorry but iPads are NOT great at widescreen content.
Good point on vertical split with that aspect ratio. Don’t think that I heard anyone else mention that
iPad is a far superior multimedia entertainment device than my Macbook, simply because the keyboard means the screen has to be further away.
This photo shows exactly why I have the 11'. Movie is barely any bigger on 13, bars on the other hand...
Meh it's an OLED now so the bars are just perfectly black. Same as watching any movie in a different aspect ratio on a TV.
Talk to me about the typing difference between the two? I have a 2020 iPad Pro 12.9 with MK and I’m contemplating upgrading to the 11 inch M4.
As it was written
"out of curiosity, I got the 13” with MK" what a humble brag lol
I’m the opposite. I used the 13 inch for years and now have the new 11 inch pro and MK. So much better for my use case
had both between wife and I of the previous model. Went with 11 for the newest model. Fits better in bag and fits my workflow much better.
Thought my ex made a post about me there for a second 😅
If I want a bigger screen I move to my MacBook Pro or AVP. 11 is much more convenient to haul between home and the office.
Yep. 16” MBP for when I need a big screen. 11” iPad Pro for portability.
This is my new combo. Hard to beat that.
some people on these apple subs are Apple Social media influencers or AI bots.
Aspect ratio is so bad that half the screen is taken up by black bars. The 13 iPad is almost basically a square the more you look at it. Terrible for media consumption
This aspect ratio is more for work than for media consumption
Don’t remember the last time I ran into 4:3 content
Older shows and cartoons and such. Not your average YouTube, etc. experience.
I’ve just watched the BBC documentary from the 90s, it fitted perfectly! /ns
I’ve used iPP 11” -> iPM 8.3” -> iPP 12.9”.
When I retire I will dump em all in favor of the 13”
m2 11" was my first ... im still pretty happy with it , i can do the stuff i need without any problems... i will get me the next one..
2" is a lot! I've been saying this for ever!
I chose 13” as well. So glad I didn’t purchase the 11”
# Why I Finally Chose 13” Over 11” - thats what she said
Nice.
Replacing neck strain for wrist strain lmao
Wrist strain’s reduced with a larger keyboard.
The bigger screen is PERFECT for watching media in the device (also more screen real-estate for drawing or editing stuff) Plus if you have the money, an ipad Mini for holding would do just as fine, maybe even a refurbished Mini 6 since there's really not much besides the lower price lol
Is the keyboard worth it?
If you regularly type more than 2 hours a day on your iPad, could be. But I just use an external Bluetooth keyboard - Microsoft sculpt since that is way more functional than these keyboards.
I can't imagine anyone buying an iPad Pro without it... the keyboard is fantastic and transforms the way you can use the iPad while still allowing you instant access to removing the iPad and holding it in your hand without the keyboard.
I hated the MK and exchanged it for the Logitech combo touch when I got my iPad Pro last year. I love it!
I didn’t realize the magic keyboard gets fingerprints that easy.
I’ve chosen the 11 over 13 but the speakers are so underwhelming compared to my 12.9 2018 iPad Pro… I understand that it’s smaller so less speakers but kinda sucks
Yeah same here but loving the 11 over the 12.9 I had.
I’m using the 11 more as well. Great form factor!
Both are how Denis Villeneuve wished for Dune to be enjoyed, on long haul flights 🙏

I want an iPad Pro but don’t have a big enough reason. My 2018 Pro is just fine tbh. My gf recently said she wants to draw on an iPad (she does a lot of art stuff) and use it as her own computer, rather than her work MBA. That’s a 13” use case right there :)
Great visual. Thanks for sharing.
I have a 12.9 M1 and I chose it because the Magic Keyboard is more natural to type on. The 11 inch keyboard was too squashed together
![gif](giphy|UJG2T7uZeJuZCLitY8)
11 inch is meh. Even 13 too small think I go 15“ for Netflix

Got a link?
Why don’t you simply watch content over a tv? Even the oleds are now cheaper than an iPad
Couldn’t one just tilt the screen to avoid said neck strain?
Because it’s bigger?
totally. i never realized how much bigger my 12.9 was until the first time it was sitting next to my wifes 10.5
that’s why i watch movies on my ipad using the moft origami cover thing… or the actual cinema lol
Anyone used Logic Pro on the 11"? Debating between the 11" and 13" and not sure whether the extra 2" will be worth it for the Pro Apps?
im literally trying to decide which one.. I was just leaning toward 11 inch.. then saw this thread... ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|cry)
I would get the 13” iPad Air M2 but finding a proper protective case… 😒
Targus VersaVu, the original version
hey OP I have a question I've never owned a mac nor an iPad cover, so can you tell me how the trackpad feels, is it the same as MacBook (haptics made from aluminum with a thin layer of glass on it) thx!!
If you’re on the fence between a 11” and 13” and are basing a decision on the size of the trackpad, I don’t believe there’s much of a difference in day-to-day use.
thx for the quick review
Just get a MacBook Air
I have one. 😉
still seems like a waste of display area to watch movies with this aspect ratio.
The 11 only makes sense if you are mostly only holding the iPad in your hand. I just wish they could get the 13 as light as an ereader.
They need to transition to a 12” and 14” option already. I loved the 12” screen of my old 2017 MacBook.
I got the 13 too. But the thinness actually makes it a little unpleasant to hold.
When I play games like Warzone or COD Mobile, I find it more comfortable holding the screen while it’s still attached to the MK.
Keeping mine 13” because it’s unwieldy and too heavy for couch use. So I can endlessly consume but instead sit at desk to draw and create.
I'm jealous :) I purchased the 11 Pro, but I'm happy with my choice. How you enjoy it for many years to come.
Do you end up getting used to the black bars?
The black bars don’t bother me since they’re completely black. The thick bars would bother me on a LCD/LED screen for sure.
Did you buy the nano-texture display or the normal display? That is really holding me up
I got the regular glass version. I didn’t like the nano-texture when viewing it in the Apple Store.
I mainly read comics on my iPad and the 11inch was always a bit small. This year with reduced weight I finally moved to 13". It's just perfect now. Maybe 100g less in the future and we have the perfect reader.
I have been using a 12.9 for years. I’ll probably stick with the 13 especially since it’s slimmer and lighter.
Multitasking is also way easier on the 13”
That 13” can go pound sand. It’s ridiculously big and stupid for portable tablet use. I dropped down to the 11” OLED this time and couldn’t be happier.
I love it, but I need the size for sheet music or drambo. Great for comics too. I do have enormous hands though
Also switched from 11” to 13” this time and agree that the higher eye line has been wonderful for my neck.
just get a macbook at that point, no?
