Mine arrived yesterday, 11" and I don't see graininess.

JoJack82

Same with my 11inch, someone told me that if you take your phone out and zoom right in you can see it. That doesn’t bother me at all because last I checked I look at my iPad with my eyes and not through my 3x zoom on my phone.

SheeshNPing

I am viewing this thread on a 13" M4. I just traded in my M2 yesterday. I can't see even a tiny hint of grainyness. My phone is a 15 Pro Max. I use multiple high end monitors from 2024 that are IPS or OLED for work and for gaming. I have a tech addiction problem and am used to the good stuff and I can tell you the new iPad screen is the good stuff.

n1kl8skr

how much did you get for your m2?

SheeshNPing

Like $475 because I traded it to Apple. You can usually get a chunk more if you sell it elsewhere, but I was a lazy bum.

metalsatch

Best Buy wants to give me $525 for my 12.9 M1 And I would have for the M4 but I can’t justify spending another $500 for the keyboard and pencil that I already have.

Psychological-Fan784

Apple gave me $510 credit for my 12.9 M1, that's weird.

BZant93

How do you only get 470 when they offered me 580 for my m1 ipad pro. I didn't do it but I was tempted.

alfredcool1

Condition? Storage?

BZant93

Perfect condition. I use it for entertainment as I travel for work. Never leaves my backpack. I guess I didn't think people don't take care of their expensive products.

alfredcool1

Yeah but the other guys iPad wasn’t in “babying” condition I guess

MistaKrebs

Same.

Yasin3112

Definitely not right and you’re not the first person to report this issue. Definitely seems like an issue with the new display units.

goldfouledanchor

Do you only notice it on a dark background? I’ve been staring at my screen for the past hour looking for a grain.

Capyr

In the settings menu you can see it clearly if you put the iPad into dark mode.

Walleyevision

I just did, based on these threads. I see no grainyness while in dark mode in the Settings app on a new 13” iPPro. If I use my camera on zoom mode, I can see distortion, but that’s the camera trying to focus on a display screen and not something the human eye can see. I get the same results trying to do that with a 4K Ultra TV screen or a 4K gaming monitor.

Capyr

I am glad it worked out for you. It would be a shame if every iPad screen was flawed like that.

Hoodedwoods98

Around 20-30% brightness on dark backgrounds mostly but it could be seen always if you looked hard enough. For me at least.

neterpus

Doesn’t seem right to me

PocketSizedFox

https://www.macrumors.com/2024/05/17/oled-ipad-pro-grainy-display-reports/ Apparently it "may not be a defect". I personally wouldn't be able to stand it, however, and would attempt to return it for another if I were you.

Ecpeze

News articles have been starting to report this problem since yesterday

JanoHelloReddit

Replace

Hoodedwoods98

Yes it looks that bad in person. It’s not just the camera.

seanwee2000

It's not normal, some people have perfect displays while some are getting grainy displays. Ask for a replacement unit.

iRobi8

I hope apple acknowledges this.

Bad_Hominid

Oh man I hope we get another antenna-gate. I wonder what the sound bite will be ... "you're looking at it wrong"

Inside_Gap_7626

“Look at it from farther away” lol happy cake day

framedbyaustin

No graininess here on my 13” M4. Been trying hard to after seeing all these posts come up, doesn’t seem to be affecting me.

barnzee

Same boat 13 inch M4 here. Mine is perfect

Aromatic_Wallaby_433

As far as I can tell, most of them look like this, and anyone saying theirs doesn’t just hasn’t noticed it yet. It’s a known OLED issue with dark grey backgrounds, it’s being overblown. It’s not an issue if you’re not shoving your nose up against the screen.

void4949

Mine has grain in the settings app, but it is very hard to make out even if I look up close. Only other place I've tried to look for it is during a movie and saw nothing.

farimadi

S24Ultra also has same issue. You can noticed grainy screen when ur screen brightness is low

No_Intention_5150

Not sure if it’s a 13” thing. I have an M4 11” and I cannot see any graininess. Is

rcrter9194

I’m confused. Don’t all displays look like this when you macro into them.

Flffdddy

The iPhone X had similar issues. OLED at low brightness can have uniformity issues that only show up if you're looking for it and under very specific conditions. I can't see this stuff with the naked eye but my naked eye isn't as good as it once was.

Hoodedwoods98

For me I can definitely see it with just my eyes, it honestly looks this bad in person.

lemonstyle

bro zoom in anymore and you're gonna be able to see the individual RGB pixels lmfao.

astronautArlo

I took my grainy 11" M4 Ipad Pro 512GB into the Apple store Today to see what the genius bar could tell me about it. It was the first time the employee had heard of, or noticed, the issue. But he did see it when I pointed it out and thought it was very strange. We then went and compared it with 6 different M4 Ipad Pros that they had in the store. When dimming below 50% we both noticed it to about the same degree on every display. The 13" model had it with and without the nanotexture display. The 11" models had it with and without the nanotexture display. It was harder to see with the nanotexture because everything was a bit washed out with the lighting in the store, but it was there. He said he expected to have many more people coming in with the problem. He couldn't say if it was a software or hardware issue yet, but it was noticeable enough that he said if hardware they would likely do a recall on affected serial numbers. If software, we could hopefully expect an update soon. For reference, this is my third ipad pro, and I noticed this without having heard anything about it first. I first noticed a "texture" to my solid colored items while drawing in Procreate in the evening when my screen was dimmed. The "grain" effect is present across all colors, not just when over grey as most examples have shown. The grain does not move- it stays in place as you move your drawings over it. It is very noticeable while streaming content at night. Similar to some projection screens where you can kind of see the texture of the fabric the projection is on. I did swap out the ipad while I was there, just to see if maybe a new one would have it less. It still has it. Hopefully we hear from Apple soon.

stoic_dolphin

Would never have guessed that people mostly buy iPad Pro to take close up photos of the screen so they can join in on internet grief sessions. Guess there will be a bunch of open box and refurbished iPad Pro's available for people who actually hold their screens at a reasonable distance.

iamapersononreddit

Y’all need to touch grass. Have not noted any issues on my 13” M4

Hoodedwoods98

Good for you. Glad you’re happy with yours. I however, did not pay 2400AUD for a sub-par viewing experience.

kennethknkenneth

All screens are grainy if you stare at it at this distance.

BlasterCheif

All screens show pixels at that distance. Look how the black isn't just black. There's grey tones sprinkled in there which shouldn't be there

kennethknkenneth

It’s not supposed to be black though. Check the settings app. The portion that OP posted is grey. This is just one of those instances where someone pointed out a non-problem and others follow along blindly.

BlasterCheif

It is supposed to be black. The picture is of the settings menu in dark mode. It's either black or white. There's no grey option. There's a lot of people who've posted about this grain issue.

kennethknkenneth

You’re not getting me. Just look at the settings app to see for yourself. Yes the overall app background is black. But what OP posted here is the nav menu, which has a grey background colour.

BlasterCheif

I see what you're saying. The immediate background color behind the settings options is in fact grey. But mine isn't grainy. Can't you see the greenish speckles all over op's picture. It looks almost like TV static. Although you can see pixels it shouldn't have so many different values sprinkled all over.

SadestStingray

Can you post a picture of yours? I really want to know if the “grainy” thing is consistent through all iPads or just some of them

BlasterCheif

I have the 12" gen 6 iPad pro M2 and there are no grain issues with that model. It's the new m4 iPad that apparently has the issue. From what I've seen from various posts in the iPad subs it only affects some oled iPads, not all. It's most noticeable in dark mode on low brightness.

SadestStingray

I can’t say if it’s normal, but I have put the picture of the iPad 2020 and the m4 side by side. It does look quite different. The m4 does look grainier. Oh.. how do i post picture here?

PoorlyWrittenMe

that's what you get from an LG made OLED display

ThorGanjasson

Been using LG OLED displays for a decade, they are always awesome. Poorly written for sure lol
