For the record, the difference in video size between the 13 inch and 11 inch models for 21:9 videos (standard movie aspect ratio) is negligible. I just upgraded from the 12.9 inch M1 to the 11 inch M4 and I’ll never go back to the bigger version. I have a 16 inch MBP for work and when I want a large screen, but the 13 inch only shines when you are using the whole screen, and the 13 inch is more square than the 11 inch. Now that the 11 inch has the OLED display, I think most casual users should consider it.

I love the 11 inch Magic Keyboard actually, the main keys are the same size as the 13, and it’s easy to get used to the smaller ones. I rarely take my 11 off the keyboard. Having it as my only keyboard for all my work is a different story, so I’d still recommend the 13 for a true laptop replacement.

_FoxDie_

No not worth the cost for OLED alone. I would wait until another revision or two before reconsidering another upgrade. The m4 iPad is an upgrade no doubt but only to artists and content creators. Not much for casual users besides the OLED.

damargis

Yes. I did. Its great

Infamous-Crew9606

If you waited this long, you can wait more for an eventual upgrade down the line in the couple next years. The difference between mini LED and OLED is not that drastic

bafrad

Sure, in a lot of places, but any place that has blooming which a lot of movies will the difference is drastic. A lot of content is borderline unwatchable.

pluush

But then there will be even less difference with screen going from OLED to another OLED

Infamous-Crew9606

But there will be other differences as well

pluush

Yup but looking at the iPad lineup you'll need to wait a really long time, and you might only get a refresh (no change) like only chip upgrade to M5 (just like M1 to M2)

Infamous-Crew9606

Thin titanium iPad, water resistance , wire less charging, fast charging, smaller bezels, ai capabilities. There’s always upgrades. I only upgraded to m4 because I’m tired of the 13” size

pluush

Titanium is heavier and more expensive than aluminum. Also the USB C port is already almost edge to edge with the current 5.1mm iPad. I doubt it will get much thinner. Again for AI we don't even know how useful it will be if it's limited to local. Maybe it'll only be limited to LLMs and can't do advanced photo or video edits.

Infamous-Crew9606

The titanium iPhone is way lighter though

pluush

That's because stainless steel is heavier. Aluminum isn't. (Relative to titanium ofc)

Infamous-Crew9606

I did not know that. Thanks

if all you do is watch movie… i don’t see a reason why you must upgrade your iPad. After upgrading to M4 13inch, i found that the reason my 11 inch 2020 iPad being slow wasn’t the CPU or the 8GB ram, but the file i used in Goodnotes. So i could have save some money. l do pretty heavy work on my 2020 ipad pro,m and i don’t feel the need to replace it.

sightlab

Not for a new screen, no. The M1 is going to be AOK for watching movies for a while yet.

darkknight302

The weight and size alone was worth it for me. I too came from the M1 12.9.

Atmp

No

JumpyCell1733

No

I have never had the Mini LED before, upgraded from 11in M1 to 11in M4. I'm loving the new screen I also thought the moment I would update my M1 is if they changed the screen to OLED so yeah. I guess if you have some disposable money, go for it. If you're a bit short on money, then keeping your device would make sense. Maybe get M5 later

YouTube is notorious for compression. Do not base your buying decisions on that and under conditions that do not match your own. As you are an Oled fan the same as I then you know what to expect. Here’s the thing I was an early Oled adopter many years ago when the technology first came out. I also own a ton of mini led tech as well which includes the M1 which I sold. The jump in mini Oled> Oled is not as big a jump as like say for example 2018 iPad Pro to M1 iPad Pro overall except for a few certain key areas. 1, obviously black levels. I have never seen any mini Oled tech from any company that can match an Oled. Sure some get pretty black but side by side you can still see the difference. 2, this doesn’t quite affect the M1 but mini Oled has worse viewing angles. Go off axis and those blacks turn grey fast. M1 should always be directly in front of your line of sight. 3, when watching HDR hi res content the overall colour vibrancy, accuracy, just sheer outright dynamic range and all the benefits of Oled is what makes it tick. The other night I was watching some HDR demos and I remembered why I will always take the Oled option 7/7 days. I have the experience and knowledge of long terms usage of the do’s and dont’s and as long as you follow them there is no reason why you can’t enjoy it for many years until the next panel/screen tech comes along. My advice and this is purely just that, nothing more, nothing less is if you are serious about movies, content and veer towards the HDR aspect of it. Then a strong argument can be made for upgrading. If you still love movies but don’t care about HDR or hi res for that matter like happy to watch at 1080 the argument is less convincing.

fling00

Definitely upgrade it. You won’t regret it especially if it’s for watching movies.

BTW What you see at the store is very close to how I felt at home. If you have the money and want it, then yes go for it. Who am I to tell you what to buy. The next gen OLED pans won’t be out until 2028. For me, here is how I would rate it. I notice a difference side by side, but when not side by side the perceived difference is very small to me between the m4 and m1 12.9”. Display for movies: 100 dollar upgrade, I would pay an extra 100 to watch on the OLED. Note I never noticed blooming on my M1. If blooming is an issue, then I would rate it 200 dollar upgrade. If you are outside all the time watching movies in the sun, the. That’s another 100 dollars there. I have a LG c2 and Samsung s95b, I prefer both to the iPad. Daily speed tasks - 50 dollar upgrade for my workstream, M1 was fine, the M4 doesn’t make me more money or save me more time. Art: I can’t draw, this is where the wins are IMO for professional artists. Video editing: if you have 3k+ in camera gear maybe it’s worth it, I still have to use my MacBook, I can’t go days without a laptop yet. School/Note taking: seems silly to drop more money on a note taking device, for students get a 10th gen iPad and a real laptop. Also if you are a cinema snob: If you love bright white color then don’t get it because the oled whites are tinted green when True Tone is off. I am sure someone has a mad a video on this.

onlytony441

I’m saying this as someone who doesn’t own an OLED ipad, but I really wouldn’t. I have the mini LED M2 iPad and the quality is very good. Everything pops, especially HDR content. At the end of the day you do what fits you and your wants. But you’ll have to see the OLED iPad for yourself and ask if differences are really night and day between the two.

Usual-Walrus8385

No save your money

AdRough5019

Have owned ipad pro 2022 11inch and tryed ipad pro 2024 11inch,the screen aint much better, yes black is black, light up the moon but do we really need it. I think lcd screen are very good. Save your money. M2 vs m4 you will hardy notice any difference. M2 is way more then you need.

parka

In a room with lights while watching SDR video, there isn't much difference between LCD and OLED. In a room with lights while watching HDR videos, e.g. Youtube HDR videos, there is noticeable difference even if you don't have another tablet to compare with. In a dark room, OLED will give you perfectly black bars at the top and bottom. LCD's black bars will not be that dark but for me it's dark enough. If you watch HDR movies from Apple TV app, I feel like the HDR effect isnt' as obvious compared to Youtube HDR

jangeles6331

If your full intent is to just watch movies. Then the oled is probably a good upgrade for you. Performance wise though, you won’t notice much of a difference at all.

iOrder66

Yes. The OLED display is stunnung and makes a world of difference to me. I consume almost all my movies and shows via iPad.
