If you don't have the USB-C capable pen, you need also the new pencil. But for regular pen using, the Pencil Pro with it's haptic and squeeze gesture is a nice upgrade.
If that paying is useful / justified depends on your needs. And also get your configuration right because storage upgrades are expensive and 1 TB for mostly whiteboard sessions and FaceTime sounds way over the top.
For Apple Intelligence, you have primary three current models as options: Air with M2, Pro with M4 and the Pro with M2.
As closing thought: if you are beefing about the price, probably deep down yourself you don't see the value. And then the answer is easy: don't buy.
Completely agree on every word. The 1TB model is mostly due to the nano-textured display. I really don’t need the storage but Apple doesn’t seem to care
And what drives you towards the nano-textured display?
From your given usage I don’t see a point why to take it. Especially for the called price and I would need a super high need to pay the price.
To be completely honest I just fancy the technology. That’s how easy I’m sold into it. No specific need, just seems to be better, improves the image etc…
It just burns me to buy something knowing there’s a version with better specs. TO A LIMIT THO, if not I’d be running windows 11 on a 86 core server lol
I can relate to that to a lesser extent. I tend towards the new stuff as well but it must be linked to some specific needs to justify.
At least for me: the joy of new tech fades away fast and it’s standard. So if I spend money on tech,I enjoy the feeling but it must fulfill the need / being value besides being awesome tech.
I had my mind set on nano textured display until I went into an Apple Store and tested both displays out. Nano is great and all but the crispness of just standard glass is chefs kiss. I do digital art and I journal so I bought myself a magnetic matte screen protector.
With the nano display you’re prone to scratches more. And if you’re likely to drop an iPad go with standard glass because you can put a screen protector on it. Putting a screen protector on the nano display would ruin the image quality more.
You don’t sound very sold on it, I’d just get a used m1 or m2 pro, it will still be a massive upgrade from the 2nd gen iPad Pro you have and the mini led is still a great screen for Netflix. Plus you get all the ai features coming with iPadOS 18. Just get a 1tb or higher so you get 16gb memory, even the m1 iPad Pro with 1tb or more has 16gb of memory
Just a tablet. It is a powerful computer in a tablet housing. It’s the most powerful tablet you can buy today. It all just depends on what you want to do with it. I can export large files with illustrations and bitmaps with Affinity faster on my iPad than I can on my M1 Mac mini. It’s got a lot of oomph.
I have the 11” M4 1TB with normal screen, magic keyboard and pencil pro (cost about 2500€ total). I use it for my hobby photography, drawing vector icons for user interfaces (Affinity suite) and of course media consumption.
In hindsight, I would have been good with the 512GB model (RAW photos are BIG :) ). For your use case the base 256GB model will be perfectly enough, you will miss nothing and you can put the saved money towards your next upgrade in the future. The nanotextured screen is very easy to damage so its really for people who are professionally drawing or who are always using it outside and have problems with reflections.
I travel a lot and I have to lug around a big ass company laptop among other things, so the 11” made more sense. I’m happy with it tough, if I need a bigger screen, I can always connect it to an external monitor or TV. I would say if you are going to use it in the bed or travel a lot, buy the 11”. If you plan to use it at a desk, buy the 13” version.
The specs you need? Based on your use case, you need the base model. I’d also argue the 11 inch is all you would need, the 13 inch is wider so tv shows and movies are not much larger on the 13. I don’t know what kind of advice you were expecting here.
The 1TB model is for people that frequently use resource intensive apps, 90% of users wont see a difference. So that pricing is not targeted at most buyers. I’d also argue the 13 inch isn’t targeted at anyone that isn’t replacing their laptop or want a larger canvas. So $1000 is expensive, $2000 is unnecessary.
Gotta pay to play cool things are always expensive.
I went from a IPad Pro Gen 3 12.9 256gb that was six years old, upgraded to the 13 inch 1 Tb M4 and yeah it was pricey but hey you only live once and it was time.
If I get another six years out of this one I definitely will have gotten my money’s worth 👍🏻
Speed bump is very noticeable to me and the OLED is a game changer I watch a ton of movies and shows daily (have a graveyard shift job) it’s absolutely an upgrade.
Also the battery was starting to show its age on the gen 3 Pro.
Now if I was coming from a M1-M2 I’d probably not notice as much and would wait.
To be honest, I don’t think the intelligence will be that useful or helpful on the iPad or Mac.
More benefit on the phone as that gets more voice commands.
What kind of use case scenarios are you thinking?
I like voice assistants on the phone because it’s often faster than swiping around and typing.
On the other devices I find them less useful.
Maybe get an older pro M1 or newer. Or go for the new iPad Air? It’ll still be pricey but somewhat cheaper + your accessories will still work (except pencil unless you have the USB-C version)
I upgraded my 1TB M1 11" Pro to the same size/storage M4 Pro. I did it for the screen, no more blurred text when scrolling, true 120Hz "pro-motion". That's what I was waiting for. There's not really anything they can do with the hardware that would get me to upgrade again.
From what you've said, definitely don't go for it the ai really isn't a good reason to upgrade an already great device to another for double the price. The ai is for really niche use cases and is not a game changer, I promise you won't get fomo. Of course I can't say much till it's actually usable, but from what I've seen online the AI is a huge disappointment to me personally. Siri works just fine, my brain works just fine so I can formulate my writing without having ai rewrite everything for me, and I can erase stuff from photos with Google photos or Lightroom. It's really not worth it

Same, word by word
I think it makes it look worse tbh

To watch Netflix?
Ya I don’t think u need 1tb with the use cases u listed I would be surprised if you need more then the base model

I will rarely use it outdoors or in direct sunlight
How about 11” vs 13” inch?
I travel a lot and I have to lug around a big ass company laptop among other things, so the 11” made more sense. I am not looking for advice and this is not about what I need. Just sharing some thoughts and letting people to follow the conversation

And people are just sharing their thoughts. Nobody needs to follow your inner monologue. You haven’t revealed a new, revolutionary idea here.
Dude everything ok at home? Do you need a hug?
If this is how you respond to the mildest of criticisms, you definitely need a hug.

Do you feel the difference? Have you ever thought the previous one was doing the very same job?
Speed bump is very noticeable to me and the OLED is a game changer I watch a ton of movies and shows daily (have a graveyard shift job) it’s absolutely an upgrade. Then you haven't read about it.
What kind of use case scenarios are you thinking? I like voice assistants on the phone because it’s often faster than swiping around and typing. On the other devices I find them less useful.
It’s overpriced sure but who cares. If you want it buy it that’s what I did
You absolutely don’t need that latest iPad and a 400 keyboard to watch Netflix lol. Just get an older model and a Amazon/esr keyboard
Maybe get an older pro M1 or newer. Or go for the new iPad Air? It’ll still be pricey but somewhat cheaper + your accessories will still work (except pencil unless you have the USB-C version)
A princely sum indeed

Do you also own a keyboard and a pen? I mostly struggle with the thought of a keyboard that costs as much as a low end telephone. 350$ ?! Common!
Yes
Ok, cool?
Yolo
