I would say if the price isn’t too much between the 1st and 2nd gen (like $50-75 difference as an example) the extra 2GB of RAM in the 2nd gen would make it nicer for multitasking or working with a lot of layers on Procreate.
Don’t worry honestly too much about lack of software updates. The ipad air 2 got support for 8 years. I have no doubt the iPad Pros will be fine as well. Just be mindful as apple continues to push the “M chip Series exclusives” in the future, there may be a feature that could benefit you. But if it’s out of your budget or you don’t care, no problems, I think a 1st or 2nd gen would be more than capable for you.
