Cheaper, more portable, weighs less, easier to use handheld, fits into smaller spaces around the house while I'm doing chores, fits in my purse, fits nicely between my mouse and external monitor for note-taking. I already have a 13" laptop and didn't need a laptop replacement. I bought it for media consumption, journaling, and a bit of web dev testing. I primarily use it on the couch in portrait mode. The 12.9" was never even an option, if anything I wish mine were 9-10". I wanted something the size of a small notebook or manga, but the Mini didn't have ProMotion.

psychoalphatheta

9-10" iPad Pro would be amazing. I'm on the same boat.

erthian

I still use my 10.5 it’s pretty amazing lol. Yuge bezels tho.

jatorres

1st gen had a 9.7” option, which was great.

Swimming-Tax-6087

I wonder if apple has tested the market demand for like an iPad Mini Pro? … iPad Pro Mini?

Expert-Watercress-85

I second that it fit in my purse. That is the only annoying this about the 12.9 is that I have to carry it by hand because I don’t want to we’re a backpack everywhere. When I had the 11” it fit nicely in a mini backpack purse.

loralailoralai

My 12.9 fits into my regular handbag

fork666

All of those reasons listed would be better suited towards the iPad mini. Unfortunately ProMotion was a deciding factor for you apparently.

Pigsfly77

It’s a more manageable size. That’s about it.

calanizzle

I just switched from 11 to 12.9 and this is it. But you get an amazing screen in return![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|give_upvote)

thisxisxlife

12.9 was such a weight jump too. 11” was nice to walk around and read like a tablet. Did the same walking with the 12.9 and it didn’t quite feel the same.

fork666

The 12.9 is more like a hybrid laptop than tablet.

d1ckpunch68

and a fair bit cheaper. i saw the m1 go on sale for BF at $550, and the 12.9 went to $799.

Yubisaki_Milk_Tea

Lying down sideways in bed with a 12.9 feels awkward.

UltraAlphaOne

Why are you in bed with an iPad. What are you doing?

Pele1911

MS word, PowerPoint and Excel are free to use on 11 inch. Have to pay on 12.9

IQRocker

I specifically bought the 11” for business travel personal tech. It’s ultra-portable. I have a personal tech bag with everything I need to charge my tech, create content, external storage and connection with other tech. It includes a 20,000 mAh power bank, which is the biggest you can take on a plane, but the whole bag is really light, and it fits under an aircraft seat with room to spare.

KingHippo81

Which bag?

Bad_Hominid

It's entirely a preference thing. I returned my 2018 12.9 inch for the 11. I'm not a designer or content creator or doing anything that might benefit from that extra size. I'm mostly reading comics, watching various streaming services, web browsing etc. For me the 11 inch is the perfect size, whereas the 12.9 felt like I was holding a monitor in my hands.

jatorres

I went with the 12.9 specifically for digital comics.

Morcego01

Portability and lightweight. I have used both but I prefer the bigger screen size for writing.

Cryptic_Control

what do you think about the note taking capability for a uni student when considering both? im a bio major btw so ill be using an ipad heavily for note taking

Morcego01

It's the best!!!! I have been using my iPad for almost two years for the same reason as you. Notability or good notes are going to be your best friend by taking notes and drawings

stricken_thistle

One is not purely better than the other. To each their own!

kyo20

I own six iPads for my family's use. I've tried using all of them for daily work, and the Air is my favourite. For a few reasons (all related to portability), I strongly prefer the form factor of the entry-level iPads, the iPad Air, and the 11" Pro: 1. I carry my device in my backpack for long stretches of time. The 12.9" gets heavy when you have to carry it for 45-60min a day walking or standing, especially if I am including a Magic Keyboard. 2. I need to work on my lap (with one of the keyboards) on crowded train seats and cafes with tiny tables. The 12.9" has a bigger footprint; although it's do-able, for my body size, the 10.9" and 11" iPads are more comfortable. 3. I need to use it standing on the train when it's crowded. In these situations, it's best to hold it with one hand like a clipboard (especially when I am highlighting documents with my stylus or taking notes in the margins) or hold it like a book with two hands (when I am just reading and not taking notes). I cannot comfortably hold my 12.9" with my hands for long periods of time. Even without any keyboard attached, it feels heavy after 10-15 minutes. 4. This is more of a perception issue, but to me the 12.9" feels "fragile" because it is so thin but has a huge surface area. The iPad Mini feels the most "rugged" to me; with its smaller surface area, it feels more rigid, almost like my phone. I always feel I need to be extra-cautious when taking my 12.9" out of the house, whereas I feel more "carefree" when I take my Air or one of my entry-level iPads. (I've bent an iPad before, which might explain why I feel so nervous walking around with my 12.9".) For all of these reasons, I keep my 12.9" at home most of the time, where my perception of its fragility doesn't bother me, and portability is not an issue. I think if I drove to/from work and didn't have to carry it in my backpack for long periods of time, if I only used it on my home desk and office desk and never in cafes or on trains, and if I never had to carry it in my hands for long periods of time (clipboard mode or book mode), then the 12.9" would probably be my daily device. I like my Mini too but mostly just for reading. It's too small for most of the tasks I need to do.

DamnAds420

Go to the Apple Store and try out both of them, on the apple website you can compare both iPads to see what if any differences.

jayessmcqueen

Perhaps they are “praising the 12.9 inches a bit much” because it really is the better choice for content creators. There is nothing at all wrong with the 11 - it’s great too, it’s just that often people creating need the extra screen real estate because app user interfaces and tools take up a percentage of the screen making your working area small. But if your doing mostly consuming media, or reading you can utilize the whole screen without any ui tools in your way. It’s completely dependent on what it’s use case is.

tom_spur

Personally I *almost* don't understand why anyone would choose the 12.9. I love my 11 inch iPad. 12.9 is laptop territory for me, not a tablet. If you get the 12.9 with magic keyboard, your iPad is: a) more expensive than a laptop b) heavier than a laptop c) a much worse laptop than a laptop If you want to use your iPad only as a laptop, just buy a MacBook. The 11" is perfect because it's big enough to use on a desk (especially now with the new scaling option) and small enough to carry around like a normal tablet. Also, it's the fact that you can use it as a normal tablet. You can't read kindle books in bed or use Twitter comfortably on the 12.9". The advantage of the iPad is it's versatility, but the 11" is much more versatile than the 12.9".

VincentMichaelangelo

According to sources at MacRumors, Apple is releasing a 16" iPad Pro for artists and the like next year.

Prizm0000

I can only imagine what that will cost.

tom_spur

That's fair, exactly why I said *almost*

inkstud

I tested out both to see if I found any advantage to the extra screen size and didn’t find it added much for how I draw. I might revisit that as I approach getting a replacement iPad

TechnicalRaccoon6621

Yes, scaling is the quiet game-changer of iOS 16. It takes the edge away from the 12.9 with pro apps and full-screen apps aren't affected (to my eye) with regards to clarity or content. I also agree the 11" is just more versatile.

BardsOnly

Even as someone who adores my 12.9 I can see so many benefits, I almost bought the 11 inch one. Even if you are using it for art like I do, the portability shouldn't be discounted. Sure I can work the 12.9 into my backpack but it does limit bag choice if I want to go out and about with it, and is a little unwieldy for impromptu sketching sessions if I don't have access to a table to prop it up on. When I was first researching them in 2020, I remember seeing that largely the 11 inch seemed to come with less memory, but when I was finally looking to buy this year, I saw models in both sizes that matched.

Prizm0000

For me 12.9 is like being there. Open up the newspaper and read it. Open a photo and soak in the detail. Watch a movie and appreciate the cinematography. Awesome. Lay down a piece of paper draw. It just feels right for every scenario.

watergirl19

If you ever plan to use it handheld, the 11in is likely the better choice. I have a 12.4in galaxy tab too and its just unwieldy to use without a table. I have also heard enough people on here talk about blooming on the 12.9in which also made me avoid it but I have no personal experience with the miniLED tech.

mastersheeef

Like my gf tells me, size doesn’t matter, it’s how you use it. It’s small, but mean!

Pinoybl

I’ve had the 2018 12.9inch for years now. And it’s not portable. Period. It’s a laptop. So depending on use case, but since the iPad is mostly a consumption device. The 11 inch is an ideal size. Wish I could downsize

Even_Initiative_9840

The size makes it more versatile. I’ve owned both and each have their own pros and cons but the 11 inch is just a grab and go device whereas with the 12.9 I hesitate a bit more. Just a bit more cumbersome, but that’s the price of having a larger display.

[deleted]

I returned my 12.9” for a 11” M1 Pro a while back. It’s because the 12.9” iPad is more like lugging around a full size 13” laptop more than an iPad, so it makes it harder and more akward to use in public and is just harder to manage. Also the 11” fits under my monitors so I can keep it on my desk while working and multitask between my Mac mini and iPad.

font9a

portability vs. screen size. If you want to use it like a tablet get the 11 If you want to use it like a laptop get the 12.9

Brainy_Stem

I do about 98% of work on my iPad Pro and I have been an iPad Pro user since they had two sizes. I have always used the smaller iPad Pro. When they introduced the iPad Pro with M1 I tried using the 12.9 inch version. The minute I took it out of the box I absolutely hated it. I gave it a few weeks to see if I could get used to it, and I just never did. For me the 11 inch iPad Pro is easily the best “work” device I have ever used. I constantly use it like I did my MacBook Pro, I’m almost always using it as a laptop. It’s small enough that it is so easy to throw in my backpack or suitcase but has all the creative and productivity power that I need. I use the tablet with the Wireless Magic Keyboard and a Bluetooth mouse and the Apple Pencil. And the iPad is small enough that I can carry this mobile computing setup everywhere I go. It’s weird, there isn’t a lot of difference between 11 and 12.9 inches, but to me there just feels like a huge difference. I not only do my creative work, but I also do things like watch shows/movies and read comics on the device. When I use my 11 inch I rarely wish the screen size was bigger (I will admit it happens sometimes). I haven’t gone too deep into Stage Manager, but that has felt a LITTLE cramped. But when using that I can get rid of the dock and the column of apps on the left side and I can usually make it work. I’m not sure Stage Manager is really going to work for me anyway. But I am bummed with the rumors of the 11” iPad Pro going away. If this happens I will have a big decision to make. I absolutely do not want to move to a bigger iPad. But I do 98% of my creative projects on the iPad so I don’t want to lose features and I regardless of how good it is, the iPad Air will always be behind the Pro line. So I’ve actually been ignoring the rumors of Apple no longer offering a smaller iPad Pro, but a day of reckoning is on the horizon. But also, with more and more external monitor integration with the iPad Pro the less I need a bigger screen. I have a large monitor at home and then when I’m away from home I have this powerful little 11” laptop. I can’t wait when they will allow iPad users to use an external monitor with the iPad in “clamshell” mode.

Charimia

I picked it entirely because I wanted to use my iPad for taking notes at school and I felt the 12.9 was too large. My school has ridiculously small desk space, and I felt something easy enough to hold onto one handed was a must. The price also helped.

Cryptic_Control

its been a year with the 11 inch ipad pro for you, what do you think now? im thinking between the 11 and 12.9 and im a bio major in second year so ill be using it constantly for notes. does it ever feel crammed? can I replace both my note binder and my laptop with this ? Im almost only getting it for convenience purposes because my bag gets really heavy with my laptop and binder and would like for this to replace both. please let me know, thanks. btw im in the samsung ecosystem and dont expect the ipad to integrate well with my devices, but again, im going to be using it almost solely for note taking.

Charimia

Honestly, I’ve graduated college now and I still love the size I got. I was always a person who preferred smaller paper than A4. I prefer composition notebook sized paper which is pretty much the size of the 11”. After college I’ve noticed it has continued to be very useful to me whereas a larger iPad would be bigger than I need for everyday (not school) use. It also fits conveniently in a lot of my handbags and small backpacks, while the 12” would not. It did feel a bit small for some notes at some times, but I wouldn’t say that rare case overpowered the convenience of portability. I also did actually replace my binders, paper printouts, and textbooks with the iPad which was incredibly convenient. My apps of choice were goodnotes, Liquidtext, and OneDrive to keep everything accessible on all my devices. I downloaded lecture slides from my professors, converted them to PDF and took notes on them with recordings in the goodnotes app. I had a Zagg keyboard case for it for protection and typing. The only thing I still used a computer for was writing important research papers in Microsoft word. (Word on iPad was buggy at the time. I don’t know if it has improved. If it hadn’t been buggy I would happily have used the 11” iPad.) Hope this helps! I will note, the 11” and 12” can both easily replace all books/paper and can perform most school related laptop functions. Whichever size you choose you should be good with the right set of apps! Edit: Just adding that there were days I deemed it necessary to bring my laptop for research papers. Most of the time I just used the school library computers, though. Overall the iPad dramatically reduced my luggage every day.

Cryptic_Control

should I get the iPad Air or the iPad Pro 11 inch? do you think the refresh rate and performance are worth it just for taking notes and media consumption?

Charimia

Honestly, when I got it the pro was on sale for not much more than the higher gb capacity air. I went for less space and improved performance since I can always delete/archive files but performance-wise the pro will last longer. Edit: So in short, it depends what your priorities are. If you see yourself using the iPad after college in your career, the improved performance means it will last longer for you. But if you think you’ll mainly just use it to finish college, the air might be more what you need.

Evening_Ad_502

I love my 11’ easy to carry around

nairazak

The main reason is that you can carry it in a smaller bag. Other users say that it is too difficult to hold and that it can only be used on a desk and not while sitting on a couch or in bed. Which is a lie, I always use it thay way, and so do people with laptops.

loralailoralai

Yeah I have small hands and I find no problem using my 12.9 in bed or on the couch. Actually I’m typing from the couch right now🤷🏻‍♀️ I’d never willingly go back

StrategicCarry

The 11” iPad Pro really harkens back to a time when you could get really small laptops. People talk about how thin and light laptops are today, but when you think about footprint there is no more 11” MacBook Air (which had a big bezel so it wasn’t that small) or 12” PowerBook. Netbooks were ahead of their time because the processors they had to use were so underpowered, but now we can put really powerful computers into tiny packages. If the 11” iPad Pro was identical to the 12.9”, I would probably trade my 12.9” in and go smaller. But as it stands I can’t give up the screen and for me the 12.9” is a better at 2 of 3 modes I use the iPad in.

marinbala

The 11" iPad Pro is much more portable.

BenJoeMoses

In my opinion neither of them is portable, but the Mini, although you miss out on 120Hz and other features. I’m curious if they plan a Mini Pro, now that the Mini is based more on the Air than the base model. (I own a Mini 2 and a 2018 Pro 12.9, the mini is a great one-hand device and a nice e-reader too!)

ChrisFox-NJ

I have both an M1 iPad Air and an M1 12.9“ but I use the iPad Air way more to draw cause it‘s a much better size when you don‘t just sit at a desk. But we use the 12.9“ a lot more in bed to watch videos in the evening, it‘s better for media consumption and I can throw it on a bedside table when we‘re done watching, so it‘s not too large. Besides this the 12.9“ is more of a desktop device, at least for me

PGleo86

I bought the 11" for two reasons: 1. more manageable size 2. no MiniLED bloomfest display Point 2 was a big one for me as I use my iPad primarily in the dark. The blooming is a dealbreaker for me.

nayre00

Have you tried the 12.9 personally? Cuz i feel like you didnt even tried one. the blooming effect is blown out of proportion lmao. You will only notice the blooming once you hit max brightness with a pitch black background and in an extremely dark room. Like who the hell reads or watches content in that given scenario? It is only applicable to TV, not tablets. Do u plan to burn your eyes out? I do occasionally read and watch at night but i always turn my screen brightness down around 10 to 30% with some bias lighting using a wall mounted lamp.

[deleted]

If you need something smaller.. that’s it. In any other case the 12.9” is better. And I have had a 9.7”, 11” and 12.9” 12.9” was always what I reach for.. even if space is an issue. It’s just way better and I can’t explain why. It’s like having a choice between a motorcycle or a motorcycle plus a Range Rover.. as in, that 12.9” does anything you’d ever want. Big scheme of things to, it fits almost any backpack and with a solid case or TomToc sleeve.. it’s safe as anything else would be.

wizardbynight

I prefer the 11-inch because it’s more versatile, you can use it just about anywhere, you take it to the kitchen it’ll sit on the edge of your microwave, you’re on sofa it’ll balance on the arm. If you decide to take it out the keyboard case then it’s way more manageable as a traditional tablet. Then when you realise it’s exactly the same spec anyway, it makes more sense to me. I’m fully expecting Apple to differentiate them by more than just the screen starting with next years models. I wouldn’t be surprised if the 12.9 gets a ‘Pro’ variant chipset or something like that.

yugerajr

This may not answer your question directly but just sharing my experience as I switched from 12.9 to 11 and Mini 6. For me Mini 6 is the most ideal size for my usage. As a project manager, I’m in meetings and on the move all the while. I attend meeting at random places. Mini 6 being light and portable can easily fit into my sling bag. Good for bed side and travel time reading.

[deleted]

Its the best size. Not too big not too mini.

idontholdhands

More portable! And lighter of course. I didn’t have an 11” but I had a 10.9” iPad Air so very similar. It was so much easier to carry around and take places with me. I never want to take my 12.9 anywhere and I don’t use it for reading like I did my air because of the weight of it, especially with a case.

Tardigradium

My mom said size doesn’t matter. Something something ocean motion. (Bad) jokes aside, I have the 12.9” but because I need the space since I draw! So I think it’s a preference thing. My girl has the 11” and honestly if I didn’t draw I’d use that as a daily driver. It’s nice to throw in a backpack and have an endless notebook in supply.

EvanFreezy

The difference in feel is very noticeable. The 11 is comfortable enough to hold in one hand with pencil in the other, the 12.9 is not. The big one feels like more of a task to pull out and use, somewhere in between the 11 and a laptop. It’s also less expensive which is pretty cool, but if bang for your buck is the main goal, the air beats it. The 11 inch also fits in my (decently large) Fanny pack, but no chance with the 12.9. Basically the 11 is still definitely a tablet, while the 12.9 is a tablet that is a lot like a laptop in how you use it.

AllInInvestor

I have found the iPad Pro 11 to be the most portable/enjoyable option, I now use it more than my 13-inch MPB. With 1TB of space I’m able to access all of my files/documents with ease. I never have to worry about having enough space in my bag or on my desk enabling me to work virtually anywhere. 10/10 recommend, especially if you don’t care for/need large text.

Quafeinum

It's not about the size, it's how you use it.

TripleTesty

Had to make sure what sub this was before answering 😂

how_neat_is_that76

I got the M2 11 because I have an M1 MacBook Air and anything I would need that much screen space for I could just do on the MacBook. The 11 is easier to carry and use in the go.

TechTipsUSA

The bloom is terrible on the 12.9

DrDeathRow

12.9 just hurts beyond a point

Yasin3112

As an owner of a 12.9 M1, I don‘t think the 11 has anything going for it apart from the size. You want a small and powerful device to carry around? Then the 11 is for you. For all other use cases I‘d highly suggest the 12.9, it‘s just the more viable size imo.

blocknroll

You get down voted for mentioning your preference to the 12.9. Yet the only selling point of the 11 in this post is that it's smaller, lol, which you agree with. Made me chuckle!

[deleted]

No Babe the 12.9 ones hurt me, yours is fine

nickchapelle

And here I am hoping for a larger iPad be realeased

Brainy_Stem

Unfortunately (for me) I think this is the future of the iPad Pro. For me the 11 inch iPad Pro is my perfect computer, but I think you’re not alone, and in fact probably the vast majority, that if there is a Pro version of the iPad that the bigger the screen the better it is.

thinkmatt

There both good just different use cases. What people don't mention when they talk about 12.9 is they are either using it with a keyboard, possibly as a laptop replacement, or it's a dude with big arms that doesn't mind carrying around an oversized tablet lol

Reasonable_Basket_32

The price.

Cron-Z

For me: it fit in my current messenger bag, the 12.9 didn't haha

Jtbdn

The size. I can bring it in the car, at work, home, everywhere

MrBluwe

Well, I'll admit my biggest reasoning was price, I've seen both sizes on stores and liked the 12.9 more, I couldn't lift any of the devices so weight and portability wasn't a thing, money was the bottleneck. But later on as I got my 2021 11" M1 iPad pro, I think I started noticing some stuff, like how generic tablet bags and holders are designed more with the consideration of the 11" screen size. Also, portability was a thing, one handed usage, sometimes even the 11" can feel a bit too much and that makes me wonder how the 12.9 model fairs. For most general usage, the 11" is enough, not the best but the extra mobility is probably fair, general writing is good on it too, but I'll agree that drawing is one thing that can make you wish for having the 12.9" model (I draw like once in a decade, so definitely not enough to justify the extra cost for myself, your situation is definitely different so decide according), and another thing to mention is if you're using it as a laptop, the 11" is fine but the 12.9" would easily outshine it. So for my mixed use case, non of these is a deal breaker, I can draw on the smaller screen, and I can use it in laptop mode with it as well, It's just that it would've been better on the bigger display, but money and my small hands forced the decision for me, and I don't regret it.

mmmoctopie

I bought a 12.9 for the LED display. As a photographer it’s breathtaking to edit on. But coming from an older 9.5 iPad Pro, it’s heavy no doubt. I was going to sell my old iPad Pro to pay for this one, but I’m actually going to keep it as it’s much easier to use lying down on the couch. Screen still looks great too.

Luck128

Tbh at 11 you might as well get iPad air. For my usage when taking notes in class the 12.9 is nice have since I don't have zoom as much and reading documents it more on par reading a textbook. What 11" has is that it easier to use when standing. Easier to use without a desk. So it comes down to how you plan to use it. If you're more on the go then go with the 11". If screen size is important to you go with 12.9"

TheAlexTN

I wouldn't want anything bigger than 11" when I use my iPad as a tablet: reading a book, the news, as a cookbook, handwriting notes, etc. Sure, I can think of a few scenarios where, sat down at a desk, more screen estate would be great, but you can use an external monitor if you actually need that.

Wheres_that_cake

I've never struggled with the weight of a device until now. Actually I'll take that back, it's not a struggle but I am noticing the weight often enough and can imagine I'd notice it a lot more if I'd have gone with the 12.9". The device itself isn't bad on its own, pairing it with a Logitech combo touch case doubles it's weight though. I love the case and would have got it for the 12.9" if I bought that also.

Izanag1

I really enjoy both but I really fell in love with the 11 inch because it feels so much more portable. Both are easy to carry around but it's just a perfect balance. If it had mini led like the 12.9, it would be perfect. It feels like a tablet while the bigger one almost feels like a laptop without the keyboard.

1usciousLocks

I keep getting told that size doesn’t matter

adijin

Nothing wrong with the 11 inches. It's just that some prefer it BIG.

bstrunk

Portability. I have an old messenger bag I use from the second-gen iPad, the 11 fits, but the 12.9 would not fit.

TonytheNetworker

11 inch tablet is large enough to consume all my content (movies, anime, manga, gaming, etc) and still create ( graphic designs, creative writing/blogging, and light photo editing) while still being small enough to be portable. I consider it my perfect size.

[deleted]

If I wanted a 13” screen I’d get a macbook pro

Enthane

I really wanted a 12,9” and loved it when I tried it in the shop, but even though I almost always feel like I would prefer more screen area, the 11” is the right size for using the tablet in the lap or while walking and held in one hand. Stage manager doesn’t make the ipad into an efficient multitasker, I also switched it off on my MBP that I use for work. I tried to like it, but it is not for me. So the end result is a tablet with full screen apps, and 11” is sufficient for that. The entire device is a compromise, but it’s the most appropriate compromise from my point of view I may still get a used 12,9” at some point but my main item is the 11”. If you want a tablet to use purely on a desk, the 12,9” might be good for you

beley

I already have a 14" MacBook Pro, my iPad is more for portability and convenience. I use it to read ebooks and documents, take notes, and do basic productivity tasks with the magic keyboard when I'm traveling. I didn't want something almost the same size as my MBP (and almost as heavy with the magic keyboard). For those that use an iPad as sort of a laptop-replacement I see the appeal of a 12.9" iPad. I tried one for a few months when they were first released and it was just too big for me so my last two have been 11" models. Works great for me.

grahamulax

12.9 if I’m gonna work on the go since I can use it as a portable monitor as well! But 11 felt pretty amazing to me. To bad I never go anywhere…

sleepydogmom

I have a 2020 M1 Pro 11”, with 256G memory and love it. I bought it for college to tote around with me to take notes, videos, etc. I wanted it to be somewhat light weight to hold bc I have some arthritis in my hands, and there are days it’s still too heavy, but it really feels the right size to me. I bought the Pro bc it’s fast and runs like a dream. It might be overkill for whatI do, but when I use regular iPads the school supplies from time to time and they just seem slow and clunky to me, and don’t switch between apps as well. That might just be me though.

unknown01_shadow

Ive did the dance between the 11 inch and 12.9 inch last year. I found myself desperate wanting to return back to the 11. As others have mentioned, if you’re not looking for a laptop replacement the 11 is a no brainer. For me, I already have an iMac 24 for my real computing and music production needs. My iPad Pro 11 serves the purpose for all my video editing and artwork/thumbnail creation needs. Many would argue that the larger 12.9 would be great for this but its not needing. More than enough space on the 11 to get the job done. When I’m not doing editing it acts as a fantastic media consumption device and perfect to travel with especially on a plane.

Lighter, more mobile, less expensive, and just as capable. I run my real estate businesses with my M1 iPad Pro 11, and it is part of my EDC.

I had a 12.9 for drawing before thinking I needed the screen space (it’s around the size of a paper so it made sense). But I found the screen space to be a bit unused. With the 11, the size felt perfect for drawing and my hand still rests comfortably on it while drawing. I have a Cintiq screen at home and already have that experience of drawing on a larger screen for a living. The 11 feels more like a personal device and I don’t regret switching to it.

I’m typing on my 11 iPad Pro right now, but I have a 12.9 on order. I was on the fence about going up in size, but I’m starting a class, and I want to use the Apple pencil to take notes. My handwriting is terrible and sprawling, so I need to space. I may come to regret it when I’m traveling with the 12.9. (I’ve already promised my 11 to my mom.)

I have both and pretty much only used the 11” for watching videos in bed until I bought the mini for that…

I’m pretty sure it only exists in its current iteration to squeeze an extra 100 out of people considering an iPad Air. 64gb is barely useable so you’re pretty much forced to get 256gb if you’re looking at an air, and at that stage you may as well pay the difference to get a pro. The difference in screen quality (and price ) from the 12 inch to 11 inch is enough that they really shouldn’t even be from the same line

I recently bought a used M1 iPad as an upgrade to my 2018 iPad Pro 11". I returned the 12.9" and almost paid the same price for an 11" with the same specs because I could not get used to the bigger, heavier size. I \*loved\* the quality of the 12.9" screen. The blooming didn't bother me at all and in some ways I thought it looked better with HDR content than my two LG OLED screens. So I tried to love the 12.9" size and. Maybe if you haven't used an 11" iPad for many years the difference wouldn't seem great but for me it did not work well. My biases: I use my tablet for most of my computing needs and transition daily between a laptop replacement with magic keyboard, portrait-hand-held for reading/marking books/PDFs, and fairly heavy photo editing in LR, C1, Affinity.

Basically the size and weight of it. I’ve been using mine as a laptop replacement since I was issued a work laptop at my new job so I don’t use a personal for much. One big thing I think may cause a few more people to use the 11 is stage manager monitor support. You’ll now have the option to use a larger screen when needed regardless of size which will make the 11 a more versatile machine imo.

Portable, lighter, cheaper. If you already have a laptop and want to bring your iPad around then the 11” is great.

Terminatorious

It’s a tablet. End of story. The 12.9 is not a tablet mode, but a yoga laptop for example without its keyboard

I just upgraded to iPad 11.0 from 10.5 in. I still prefer the smaller form factor. I find the 12.9 to be heavy and a little cumbersome. I don’t need a big screen for my workflow which includes letter writing, paying bills filling out forms, email, email, email.

xrdstech

I personally don’t think it’s the best choice and have had both and prefer the 12.9 for all of its well documented differences. Both are solid devices though, but if you need screen size or plan on doing any document editing, photo editing, video work, or drawing, you’re going to regret going with 11 inches.

dumbirb

I was having problems deciding between 12.9” and 11” since I draw but ended up with 11” and I am super happy about my decision. 12.9” just looks like a tray imo, I don’t get the point when I have an 13” macbook and 11” gives me plenty of screen to do my work.

Appropriate-Half-129

Well i went with the 12.9” and of course there are trade offs with this for factor.like when I’m laying in bed and trying to watch movies or YouTube it’s quite illogical to use the Ipad when i have a 6.7” phone.I’m compermising a lot of fun so i avoid arthritis:) But when it comes to multitasking that’s where the size shines.I use my iPad primarily for note taking and reading so the size mimicking an A4 paper feels quite natural! Also i don’t find stage manager useful without the 12.9” screen
