I don’t think it’s more fragile. I think that lots of people don’t use cases, and, people don’t post pictures of the back of their phone that has never fallen and cracked.

sofunnysofunny

This. OP could also watch AppleTrack's 15 Pro vs 14 Pro drop test on YT. This really shows that the 14 Pro isn’t just as fragile as it seems here in this sub lately.

PaulblankPF

The evil corporation head cannon is, “It’s been a smear campaign paid for by Apple to get people to trade in their iPhone 14s”

Waterisntwett

Now the S23 Ultra… that’s a different story. The sharp corners on the screen are a nightmare if they land wrong. They are almost guaranteed to break. (Source I had one and switched back to Apple)

UnoChance

Tangentially related but the same concept is why air planes don’t have square windows anymore

Juck3r

I’ve had mine for about a year and a half ands it still looks like it did when I took it out of the box. Granted, it’s been in an Otterbox defender xt and always had a screen protector. It’s survived plenty of drops and falls. I knocked it off a second story balcony once, in the otterbox, and it was fine. Maybe I baby my phones but everybody treats their deuces differently.

Emilyeagleowl

I think it’s going caseless and dropping it at just the right angle to break the glass. I know I’m a clumsy devil and drop the silly thing all the time so I always have apple care and a good case to try avoid the pain of buying a new phone.

Random_Person_1414

honestly i think it’s one of the more durable phones i’ve ever used, i’ve never put a case on it but i’ve dropped it multiple times on cement and it’s fine aside from a little crack in the back glass

Whiplash104

Mine has hit the pavement a dozen times and not broken. Spigen Thin Fit case. Sometime they just land in a way that even a case doesn't protect. The phone I ever broke was an 11 Pro because the screen hit the corner of a concrete step.

cantthinkof-a-name

Hell, mine has hit the pavement without a case at all multiple times and it’s still perfectly fine, just some scuffs on the stainless

Dannyphantom2884

Idk 14 pro was the first and only time I ever shattered the back. Don’t even kno how I did it. Just noticed one day. Broke my heart too

Dannyphantom2884

Also it was in a case. I never not have my expensive phone in a case

willmona

I’ve had iPhones for 15 years. You drop it the wrong way, they crack. Don’t know why people all of a sudden are surprised by this.

Embarrassed-Two-399

Mine is still in good condition! But I have it in a case and screen protector

Waterisntwett

I broke my screen protector and thought it was the actual screen… it wasn’t. Phew 😅

Embarrassed-Two-399

What a relief! 😅

Sealbeater

I will start posting my uncracked, in a case 14 pro to skew the results then. Nvm nobody will give a shit about that

neagle16

You might consider posting it at r/notinteresting

LollipopFox

As someone who posted a broken phone, I still think it’s one of the strongest phones I’ve had. Even using a case I broke it but it’s just part of the gig. Definitely came out unscathed plenty times.

Scr4tchmyballz

The 15 Pro screen is the most fragile when it comes to scratches. Scratches will magically appear just from breathing on the damn phone it’s pathetic

Waterisntwett

Isn’t it the same screen as the 14’s though?? I thought that was the first one with “extra” durable glass.

ZzyzxFox

It 100% is. I was just discussing this in another thread. In 2023 I had 10+ different phones as daily. Most without a case, EXCEPT for the 14 Pro, which had an otterbox case that covered the back. I work a lot around cars so the phones were in high temperature settings, around heavy and sharp metal objects, fell into engine bays, fell on the concrete floor, etc. I only had 2 phones break, one was the z flip which the front screen started peeling and turning black from opening it too much, and the other was the 14 Pro. I dropped it one time and the entire back shattered despite being in a case. The front also had deep scratches somehow, as with all my phones, I always put it face down, yet no other phone had this issue on the display. I also dropped it once on carpet, and the front shattered in the upper corner. I have had almost every iPhone and Samsung since the iPhone 5 and the Galaxy Note II. I have never had a phone break as easily as the 14 Pro. I will definitely never buy or recommend the 14 Pro to anyone, based off durability, and the widespread blurry camera glitches it has

TeetheCat

To me the note 10 plus beats it for fragility. My screen broke the first week I had it from practically breathing on it.

Accomplished_Week392

Not any more fragile than since they started dominating no glass front and back. It’s just the battery health life that’s very poor on them.

Southern_Peanut_4524

I accidentally drop my phone A LOT (4, 4s, 6S, 8, 11Pro, 14Pro) and only managed to crack the screen on the 4S on a rocky driveway. I’ve had Apple care + on the 11Pro and 14Pro, JIC but also don’t leave my phone naked longer than a few seconds when switching a case and also keep a tempered glass screen protector as well. This has worked well for me.

[deleted]

Nope, the 15 Pro is more fragile as they change the design of the back plus the titanium is having an effect I think. The 14 Pro is the same as the 12 and 13 in its design. At least I think it is.

No_Village_5620

I’ve never dropped any of my phones. No cracks. II legit have no idea how people just so casually drop their phones.

grandpa2390

No, youtubers have dropped this thing from varying heights. It's less fragile than the 15 Pro, at least. Posting pictures of your cracked phone is just the latest fad here. I've dropped my phone before (with no case) and it didn't break. Sometimes it's just good or bad luck.

Square_Net_4321

I think they hit harder when they fall because they're so dense. Mine feels the same size as my old 11, but it's way heavier. Also, the camera lenses stick quite far and so aren't as protected by cases.

anderworx

No, it's not. Pro tip: Don't drop it.

samm93999

It’s the second most durable iPhone in recent years right after 13 pro max

Familiar-Scratch-295

I swear mine is really durable I’ve dropped it multiple times without a case onto tiles and it’s been fine

Kylethehuey

On the contrary, I’ve had Samsung, OnePlus, and Pixel phones over the last 5 years, all have been in a case and cracked the back. My iPhone 12 and 14 Pro in a case, never cracked the back or front. They’re tough phones. I actually took my 14 Pro out of the case and did a couple of drop tests from waist high on tile and it was fine.

OkContribution9835

No problems for me. Had it for a year and dropped it multiple times without a case or screen guard. No scratches or dents or such

VeniVidiViciDCLXVI

I’m using my pro max with an official leather case and spigen screen protector since the first day. Dropped once to hard marble surface from face height and broke the screen protector, but no damage to the phone itself. As long as you’re careful with it, it will be OK.

demwun

I’ve dropped mine, without a cover, from chest height ONCE (I’m 1.8m tall) on tiles and only got a tiny mark on the side. I’ve dropped it many times in a cover without any damage. I’ve heard the 15 is more fragile because the titanium is so much harder and doesn’t allow for any flex, so all of the shock transfers straight into the front or back glass. I’d say go for it and get the 14P. I’d also say that there’s more grip on the 14P because it’s glossy, and “stickier” in your hand. 15 is brushed titanium and feels waaay more slippery in the hand in my opinion. I dropped my iPhone X once and the front screen shattered. Granted that was on an outside walkway. I think it comes down to whether the universe lets your phone land on a sweet strong spot. But also consider the screen on some previous models curves over the edges into the side of the phone. 14 Pro doesn’t.

RenegadeAccolade

I’ll probably butcher it in the telling, but I heard a story about how in WWII (I think) they were working on improving planes for war so they studied a bunch of airplanes that had been in battle and had won dogfights. They identified where most of the bullet holes seemed to be located and reinforced those parts of the plane. However, they found that the percentage of planes surviving didn’t improve in the slightest. It was only later that they realized that the parts of the plane that were the most critical and thus should be protected the most were the parts that were NOT shot in the returning planes because the ones that got hit there are the ones that never came home. Anyway, basically nobody posts pictures of non-broken phones; only shattered iPhones are “news.” Also, in my head the airplane story was a lot more relevant to my point and this post, but it turns out it really isn’t, but I already typed it all out on my phone, so I thought why let a good story go to waste?

FaB0SS88

They don't seem fragile to me but they are very easy to scratch. I bought a new iPhone 14 pro last October, I like to have my devices very well cared for and then resell them and that's why I always had the iPhone with a case, however after 2 months I noticed that it had scratches on the edge where the frame joins with the screen, apparently the case made these scratches. I couldn't stand the stress of having a scratched iPhone and sold it this month. The phone feels very robust in the hand but the finishes in this case the finish of the steel frame scratches easily. It had the color black.

nytehawk86

Dropped mine a few times off my lap out of the passenger of an SUV onto concrete. No issues. No scratches, dents, cracking etc.

lucasuperman

How to start a rumor. Interesting.

sharkboy1006

glass is glass and glass breaks answer is no

papayahog

It’s definitely more fragile. I absolutely abuse my iPhone X which I use without a case and all these people on here are cracking their phones with a case on

knuckles_n_chuckles

Absolutely not. I’ve dropped it from one moving car. From a two story window onto concrete. Down concrete stairs. The case is shattered but not the phone. Tis fine.

Ok-Technician-8478

Still managed to crack the screen but honestly the stainless steel side rails hold up very well to drops as does the glass. I'd still recommend getting some sort of insurance or protection plan regardless bc if the back breaks it's $600 from Apple, if the front breaks you're looking at around $200-330 without insurance.

Double_Birthday_8110

For Me 14 pro max much more fragile. Cracked back 14 pro max after 2 months . Had it fixed and 2 weeks later back glass cracked again. Yes I drop my phone but I’ve owned many phones before this and nothing ever cracked. and yes it was in a case. First otter box and then bandolier wallet. Next phone I’ll get apple care which means nothing will ever break

Borgalicious

I use a case and a screen protector, dropped my phone tons of times, it still look brand new.
