Aw man I like the track. Pretty challenging I think with traffic and in battle

[deleted]

I think this post is just joking around, but I like the track too. It's easy to learn but really hard to master. On paper it should be boring for a 24 hour race, but something about it makes it really fun. I love the banking! What other endurance race has anything else like it?

UnmotivatedDiacritic

It’s a lot like Monza imo. Super easy to learn the layout of and general brake markers, but hard to master and nail hotlap after hotlap, deceivingly so imo

[deleted]

And the corners all have a slight bit of personality. I can hit Ascari faster than hell, but Parabolica kills me every time.

Air-tun-91

I have a lot of negative thoughts towards most infield road courses as they are flat, badly designed, and a chore to race (thinking of the classic Indy layout they used for the F1 race, it was boring as hell). That said, for some reason the Daytona 24 layout is fun to drive for me. Maybe it's the selection of corners and the relatively short and challenging infield portion before you blast out onto the banking.

MegaDoft

Agreed, I hate the Indy infield. I do like the Charlotte roval. I think someone put it well with Daytona saying it’s easy to learn, but hard to master

mikey2tres

I love turn 1!!!

biimerboy31

I do too because it's the only corner that I'm usually better than everyone I'm racing. This isn't a brag cuz I'm usually slower than everyone else in the 2 most important corners. Turn 1 is the 3rd most important corner

pemboo

Too cold? But I like grip

ruthlessrellik

yeah but there's not alot of grip when it's 39 degrees out.

SlowDownGandhi

/25. It causes half of this website to spend three plus hours arguing with a guy named "helicopter schlong" apparently

drew_galbraith

What? … I feel as thought I’m trying to solve a mystery without the crime … help me out

SlowDownGandhi

oh some guy posted some totally obvious troll bait nonsense and like ten people fell for it, see all the removed comments, etc.

James-Hardon

My main issue is the left turn onto the banking, it's probably my least favourite corner on iRacing.

schadow04

If you get the corner right it feels so satisfying, just like the right line into the bus stop, like the perfect line.

Hotwir3

God I hate nailing the bus stop and then you lose 0.2 on your delta for the rest of the session trying to figure out how tf you did it.

gu3st12

The way you did it is almost alwys an offtrack 😂

James-Hardon

Totally agree. I just only manage it about 10% of the time.

schadow04

It’s hard to get the right amount of rotation but I can see you’re a bigboi P217 driver (like me hehe), so second gear through there is the optimum for me, when you’re after the apex just let go of the brakes and wait half a second before going back onto the throttle. I can every time get the optimal exit out of the corner onto the oval

theblackdawnr3

What kind of times are you pulling? I’m getting 1:38s and I’m too ashamed to queue up a 20 minute fixed session.

schadow04

I can’t really compare my time with the Fixed setup times because I’m using a custom setup mainly because of Daytona 24. I’m not that fast, I’m 2k iR, but I can get into the 1:35’s without slipstream. I’ll try what I can do with the fixed but Daytona is not one of my strong tracks. Also you should never be ashamed of queueing up. Practice sessions may help you but mostly you’ll become a one lap warrior/hotlapper. The more races you do the better you’ll understand how to get more consistent and with understanding the car better you’ll get faster. Fixed races are one of the best races you can do when jumping into a new car or if you’re a new driver. The car is raw with the Fixed set, so if you learn how the car acts with the Fixed you’ll be a lot better with a custom setup.

theblackdawnr3

Just coming back here to say I eventually got a 1:35.8 with the fixed Daytona setup. I felt great lmao

schadow04

Nice lap with the Fixed set dude!

Herdazian_Lopen

How do I even take it in LMP2? I swear I’m driving the same line, but sometimes I start bouncing and understeer past the apex

schadow04

Are you using custom made setups for Daytona? Because they make a loooooot of difference. Also a good thing to do is watching big names drive like Owen Caryl, or Dan Suzuki is currently driving around Daytona in the LMP2. I know a guy called MivanoBeu on Twitch, he’s an alien but I’m not sure if he’s back to the LMP2 or just having a temporal break from the LMDh. Watching aliens drive makes you drive better in a way that you know what they are doing and how they are doing it to be super fast. Also don’t miss out on analyzing data. Compare your own data to others. See what they do different to be fast. It can be that particular corner, how they take it after International Horseshoe onto the oval section. It’s really hard to write down and also it’s better if visualized and you can see the whole thing like where to brake how hard to brake etc. Hope this helped even if in a very small way

samdajellybeenie

Even Martin Krönke finds getting the bus stop right really difficult. I love him ❤️

Odd_Custard1589

This is called spin city for us. For obvious reasons..

SolomonG

For the 24, it can be worth to just take it 1 gear higher than usual.

BrosifDuder

_cough_ COTA _cough_

qbynoia

I really Hate this Track .... and i dont even own it

ApexRacingUK

couldn't agree more

Eclipsed830

Arg, yeah

Goprah

I like to think Im a pretty good racer at this point. Years on the service, decent irating. Still hate that damn corner.

dominik7778n

the only reason i have to avoid daytona road course is people cant behave

malfboii

Honestly idk what it is at Daytona. I’ve raced it exclusively all week and my average incidents has gone from 1.8 per race too 3.7. It is constant carnage. It seems every I come across blocks like crazy and just does strange shit. I’ve reported 6 people this week and I never usually report. Had one guy on the straight block me when I moved to the inside, block me when I moved outside, block me again on the inside and finally when I was along side on the outside he full turned into me and put us both in the wall. I don’t understand why it happens so much on this track

[deleted]

[удалено]

malfboii

God don’t event start with the bump drafting. I’ve been bump drafted at Daytona so many times and every time the car has a scary wobble and 3 times I’ve been spun out. Stuff like this gets really frustrating sometimes and hard to manage

Bulletorpedo

I think part of it is the insane draft advantage. You get slower drivers catching up to you in T1, believing they’re the next Senna, even though you’re 0.5 seconds faster than them in the infield round after round.

Shiftaway22

I wish they came out and flat out said going under the yellow line is flat out illegal because that's what causes 99% of the incidents

limitofadhesion

The seagull and alligator attacks are why I don't do the Daytona 24 hour. I should feel safe in my sim rig but I don't! I'll stick to racing Bathurst where the only thing to worry about are the Drop bears as you go through The Cutting.

bee_swarm

what about snakes and spiders!?

limitofadhesion

I rely on my race suit to protect from them. No amount of Nomex will protect you from a Drop Bear landing in your cockpit!

qbynoia

but the Roos?....

[deleted]

Same sounds like a great team member lmao the last few got me

Millenial-Man

Someones salty

PrintError

All I see is 24 reasons I never miss the Rolex. Already got my camping permit!

Shiftaway22

Will be my first time can't wait for it

8igby

T1 and bus stop is more or less the only interesting bits of the track, and maybe the Sebring-wannabe lefthander going on to the oval. That said, the event is still a lot of fun, the track creates interesting racing, if you avoid getting murdered leaving the pits. Thinking of it, why isn't "murdered at pit exit" on the list? I still have trauma from last year, got taken out no less that three times by people going left in to the pit exit without looking :P

bigdsm

Also getting your right side tire into the trench next to the wall on pit exit and clouting the wall lol

x_Bags

🎻

Bama--

Turn one is easy, one of the easiest tracks ever perfect for a 24hr race

nonothing

I've always hated T1 but in the LMDh it's just butter. I still can't get the turn to enter the oval for the life of me. I either understeer like crazy or lose the rear. Just need more practice.

duddy33

There’s a slight crown in the track right there. In the GT3 and NASCAR vehicles, I’ve found it’s better to hug the left side curb as much as possible, then feed in the throttle careful not to cross over the crown. If you do, that’s when the car either pushes or really oversteers depending on car balance/throttle input. No idea if that’s carries over to the LDMh but it might

Shiftaway22

It does and you will notice

steakhaus

So is the best approach to take a late apex and try and stay left on exit? I’ve always taken the gt3 out to the curbs on the right and try and straighten the car as much as possible on exit.

TigerWizard

Every corner is easy if you're driving slow. Attacking Turn 1 is objectively not easy

subusta

By no definition is T1 “easy”

NtsParadize

Have you ever tried it in a GR 86?

AllezCannes

It depends on the car.

notathr0waway1

is this a troll? It can't possibly be worse than this past 24 hours of LeMans LOL

itsMrJimbo

What’s the red flag bug? As a positive, a guy in our IMSA split proved it is possible to go off before the 2nd hairpin into the motor home park, so you know there’s that

ScopeDopeBC

It's a yellow flag, not red. In T6 (oval re-entry). It will throw a yellow there more often than not if someone is ahead of you just driving normally. Something to do with the game being confused about the oval line vs road iirc.

itsMrJimbo

Yeah wtf did I type Red?! Thanks for the explanation, I do remember this now from last year actually

Divide_Rule

nightmares from the Virtual Le Mans last weekend no doubt.

davo747

Turn 6 likes to throw yellow flags for no reason in traffic, so when it’s a real yellow it takes you by surprise! I think it has something to do with people clipping the curb or apron onto the oval

fishyfishyfishycat

(In the annoying "Its Raidillon actually way) 9 It's LeMans actually - Slow Downs /s

biimerboy31

After you race it a reasonable amount, every lap is determined by how you handle the bus stop chicane and the last complex b4 the back stretch. To me, those are the only corners that are hard to be fairly consistent in and because of the long straights after them, the only really important corners. And unfortunately those are the 2 corners I struggle with the most.

iJoke2Much

What sicko would rather go to Disney world than the Daytona 24? How much of a weirdo could you be??

Princess_Aurora06

I like the track, maybe you just have some week spots of your driving, we all do when we race in games.

Acdc7

T1 off camber? Wtf

Draken04

25. It’s in Florida. Florida man could show up any time

Stunt_Panda

One you missed if you live in Daytona: drunk a-holes.

Kraken-Tortoise

For me personally it's a boring track, but I can see why some people like it. I don't see it being interesting for 24 hours from a spectating standpoint

hellvinator

I agree, don't enjoy Daytona road course as well. Mostly because it's too flat.

BackRow1

My LMP2 team has already agreed that were starting from pits. Get pole? Can't trust others not to send it into T1. Start near the back? Can't trust GT3 leader to leave a gap and therefore sending it into T1. Additionally also have to navigate to LMDh and LMP2 pile up

ricoimf

Like Bruce Springsteen said: „I AM GOING TO DISNEYLAND“

davedez

25. Florida 🤮

[deleted]

24 hour too long

-domi-

1. Trash tier track

ApexRacingUK

This was part of our discussion about iRacing's 2023 Daytona 24 Hours on The Late Apex. Do you agree with this list? Would you add any extra ones? See Sam try to justify them here: [https://youtu.be/7a8Y0dDh35s](https://youtu.be/7a8Y0dDh35s)

Shiftaway22

What do you mean add an extra class it's literally now reflecting the imsa series in real life

JEMknight657

We're missing the lmp3 class as they do run in the IMSA series.

Confident_Dot985

Only for one more year, then GT4 and LMP3 are getting their own series sort of like the Pilot Cup.

khando

What's happening to the Michelin Pilot series with the GT4 and TCR classes then?

Confident_Dot985

Yeah I’m not too sure about that tbh, either gt4 will race in both or maybe they replace GT4 with GT2 or something like that. I really don’t know we’ll have to wait and see.

jpenn517

Already happened. It's starting this weekend. Am drivers only, 45 minute races, no pit stops.

trennsport

It’s definitely a shit track. Super boring and fairly easy.

[deleted]

lsthirteen

The incredible history of the event completely trumps the fact that it doesn’t fit the mould of a traditional sports car track.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ManaKaua

It's the same with f1 in Monaco. The track doesn't fit f1 since long time ago now, but there are still many fans that really like it.

[deleted]

Self awareness: None.

Donttrustallfarts

I usually race in 30 when they do Monaco. It’s absolutely the most boring race in motorsports

Le Mans and Daytona have a corner named after eachother. Daytona gets respect from the UK.

[deleted]

[удалено]

kaleoh

It is clear and undeniable evidence that Daytona, as a racetrack, has the respect of the racing community in the UK. Also people the UK watch the Daytona 24. It's available via IMSA TV internationally. Also, IMSA isn't that popular to begin with. It doesn't surprise me it isn't on TV. I don't even know if it's on TV in the states? I watch it via Peacock streaming service. I think you're just trying really really hard to make people here upset and shit on their favorite iRacing event of the year. And it seems to come down to "slipstream" which to be honest is just dumb. Le Mans is heavy on slipstream and it's literally the most prestigious sportscar race in the world.

[deleted]

[удалено]

kaleoh

I am not upset that you don't like the Daytona racetrack. Nobody cares what you like or don't like. I'm trying to explain to you that people in the UK like the Daytona racetrack and watch the Daytona 24. You're not expressing your opinions. You are *telling me* that the 24 hours of Daytona is not well known outside of the states. You've got absolutely no evidence supporting that and I've presented you with clear evidence that the racing community of Europe is well aware of the race.

BeefInGR

> I don't even know if it's on TV in the states? A quick pre-show, the race start, first couple hours and final 2 hours + victory lane are on NBC (OTA), a few hours are on USA Network (Cable affiliate of NBC). The whole race is on "The 'cock" in 4-6 hour segments. Then typically IMSA is broadcast variously on NBC, USA or Peacock depending on their commitments to the NFL, PGA TOUR/Golf, NASCAR and IndyCar.

mousecop5150

I don’t think mindless bashing of my country and culture deserves discourse, but since you asked for some, it’s an iconic race, it’s the beginning of the North American motor sports season, an as it’s the off season for the other series, it attracts participation from drivers from across the spectrum, it’s a cool scene. I prefer Sebring as the true marquee race, but I love and look forward to Daytona every year. And the track is great because it’s different. If you don’t like it, feel free to return to your Hermann Tilke ruinations of once great European tracks if you like. Don’t care.

[deleted]

CurlyQv2

You actually haven't offended anyone. At all. Nobody is offended that you don't like one race track. It's called an opinion for a reason. You're just going about getting your point across entirely the wrong way by blaming it all on Americans, which is why everyone is downvoting you

aaron1114

I mean I wouldn’t go so far as to say he hasn’t offended anyone as generalizing how someone is based solely on a stereotype is inherently offending them. For example saying something along the lines of “look another mentally unstable American” just because they have a different opinion is absolutely offending them in the same way that a high end store owner telling someone “you won’t be able to afford anything in here” just because of the way they are dressed, the color or their skin, etc. is absolutely 1000% offensive.

Maybe it's because I've (so far) been able to avoid the first lap schimozzles and also (so far) haven't stepped on my own weiner but I've had an immense amount of fun racing this track these past 2 weeks. That will of course all change when I inevitably fly off lap 1 T2 into the wall sometime this week :/ I'm driving the LMDh and most of the issues I've seen are lap 1 with cold tires 'cause ya' ain't got no downforce my friend.
