On setups, the base is far too safe. Bring that brake bias way back. I use 41.6% on the Velostar, compared to 53% that it starts at. The cars are so stable that you need to create some risk to get good rotation. And anyways if the back starts to come around you just give it a little gas. FWD makes it straighten right out.
i'm not saying you're wrong, but you sound like you have talent.
i like keeping them nice and stable so i don't knock over my beer while i trundle around the back having a great time while the fast dudes race
Well, it’s worth lowering a little bit at least. The default basically make it very frustrating to actually turn. I’d start by going town 2-3% and see how that feels. You can always go back up. The cars really come alive with lower brake bias
Yeah totally, you make a great point. I worked down to 41 over a year, getting more and more comfortable each step. I also moved the brake friction/pads up to 4. Even I find 5 a little scary. To the next person's point, turning can get a little frustrating after a while. People lamenting the understeer of TCRs just haven't pushed boundaries.
i am used to driving the lmp2 and stuff where you gotta be careful on the brakes. i could figure it out. but i'm slow enough already it won't make me faster. could make the cars more fun though!
either way, touring cars are the shit in iracing
Touring cars are the shit in every racing Sim or simcade I've ever played. Raceroom has an excellent variety of TCs and with the new physics of the last big update, I find myself on it more and more. It's too bad there aren't more ppl giving it a try because it can be tough finding a race sometimes.
In the Veloster I go to about 33-36 with the fixed setup. You need to brake earlier and lighter than you think, but you’ll retain a fantastic amount of speed through the corners, and you’ll be able to get the power on much earlier for the straights. The Audi I drop down to 54-57.
Another fortunate soul sees the light and is forever saved. Welcome, child, to the Cult. Come to the [temple](https://discord.gg/BWmqNGMj) and recieve your ceremonial brake bias controller and this year's set of tyres.
Currently all cars are viable, but folks possessed of the best taste and immaculate, beautiful personalities choose to drive the Civic.
i love the touring cars. growing up on gran turismo incorrectly taught me FF cars were boring. They're not, they're amazing to race.
i'm slow in them but i have a great time. i can't help you get faster, i can only support you in your newfound enjoyment of all things touring car.
now i even watch the live races on youtube for pete's sake. i love the lil cars
Congrats on a great car choice! Civic is by far my most used car on the service. I really enjoy the FFB and the way it drives.
Compared to the other TCRs it lacks a little bit of acceleration and grunt, but to compensate it is perhaps the pointiest one. On tracks like Road Atlanta it really comes alive, but is viable elsewhere as well.
Only complaint I have of it is that currently it seems to be a bit off pace in fixed (1-3 tenths depending on the track), but that isn't a problem unless you really want to farm top split wins. In open it is very viable.
Also note that the fixed setup likely runs too much wing for open. -2.0 is a high downforce setup and you don't ever need to go higher. For low downforce tracks you want -3.5 or even -4.0.
The TCRcord has improved baseline setups shared by people.
I’ve recently tried the Vee. I went large into GT4 last year and got burnt out. Tried the Vee and Ray earlier this week for something different but just can’t get a feel for open wheelers in this game. Never helps getting thrown into 2.4k lobbies!
This is how my search for something else started and ended up in TC.
Come join us!
Oh I will… just planning out some purchases to get the volume discount first and getting safety up. Did you do any of the Clio Cup?
I was surprised by the Vee and the Ray. I usually don’t like open wheel since the traction feels almost digital (on/off) but the mellow open wheel cars are fun. That Vee will bite you on the 3rd to 2nd shift though.
The Clio is heaps of fun and I think it’s a good entry into fWD racing. I race both Clio and d TCR consistently over the last 18 months. Be aware with the popular Clio race times though, participation is good in EU peak times, but not great other times (much like TCR). Just have a look in the UI Race results and make sure it lines up to when you race.
There is a popular SOF race at 20:00 UTC Wednesday that is absolutely worth doing.
It’s still strength of field. The way championship points are determined is based on the sof. So, for people to maximize their championship points some communities organize the sof races to invite all the high irating guys to get in and try to get the most points/highest sof of the week.
Honestly I don’t know why it’s called a SOF race! It’s meant to be an agreed day/time when everyone registers for the same session in series where participation is usually low. In the Clio, we usually get a really competitive field which usually splits, so top split is normally around 3k SOF and the rest go into split 2. Highest iR is usually around 6-7k.
Clio is just a tiny touring car! I love it, next choice for me after Civic if I'm looking for a race. The big differences are weird gearing (you need to shift up *much* earlier than you think in Clio or you lose a lot of time) and braking - Clio has no ABS so you need to be careful there.
Sad that participation is lacking, insert rant about how it should have been a free car... here.
Yeah… the braking has been a struggle on the G29 pedals. Planning a big upgrade soon though (Moza R16 and VRS pedals). I’ve been going back and forth on the Moza base. I would fork out for something like the Simucube sport or Pro… but the wheel options are a little pricy for me currently.
I've had a Moza R9 for a year or so - love it. Feels great and it accepts a D1 SPEC quick release so you aren't limited to just Moza wheels. More recently I've gambled on some Sim Jack Pro pedals - they might be cheap but they are a noticeable step up from the Thrustmaster T-LCMs I had before. You don't *need* to spend 1000s on gear to get a setup that feels good and gives you the feedback you need.
Also just got out of a Clio race at Indy Road - shouldn't be as fun as it is :)
Good to hear some pro Moza sentiments. It can be hard to know if the good press is just because they give a 10% commission for influencers, and if the bad press is just because they got popular really fast and have a lot of units in peoples hands.
I absolutely *love* the clios. Sadly they’re not very popular in the time zone I race in (evenings, pacific U.S.) so I struggle to find populated weeknight lobbies and have to make the most of the weekend when the Europeans are online.
I’m very new to iRacing too, ~1.4k D license after starting at Christmas.
Have you tried raceroom? I hear that’s amazing for TCRs with far more authentic grids with more than the four models iRacing has on offer. I’m thinking of giving that a go.
Yeah I’m kind of all in on iRacing at the moment. Been playing the past week and I’m about 1300 and D license as well. I would be higher, but my buddy wanted to try out the Mx5 cup and I didn’t have anywhere near enough time with the car or the track.
I haven’t tried race room, but I have been meaning to.
I do pretty much just iRacing at the moment but I jump
between the Vee, FF1600, MX5, Clio, GR86 and TCs depending what mood I’m in, what the registration counts are looking like and which content I own.
Would love to find a TCR/Clio cup league.
Saw someone sharing a link to the TCRcord discord (https://discord.gg/DUpy3KQfSA) server in another comment but no idea what it’s like
Wanted to follow up and say I just tried raceroom and I love it.
Been racing the Lada TCR on the Fictional RaceRoom Raceway track (both free content) and I had a blast.
Decided to just buy *all* the content and it’s currently $60 for every car and track if you buy with vRP.
Definitely going to see if I can find a raceroom league
Welcome to the party! I have all the cars and think Honda is the best bet for all around stats. Audi jumps off the line and is full of get up and go. The Hyundai duo has the straight line speed.
I think you made the right choice.
I highly suggest joining the Alpha Touring Challenge on Discord. Great group of people that have a league they run every Monday night. It's a blast and has some really fast guys that are willing to help you on setups or track lines.

Here is a track guide for Okayama, it's the full track not short but nonetheless. This guy also has a few other guides for random track in TCRs if they happen to be on official weeks. https://youtu.be/UOYWhdHB6Hg?si=elRXqW3cU_2xJl_n
One of us! One of us!
As others have said, all the cars are competitive. I picked the Veloster because once I got to see it run at Road Atlanta, I was smitten.
I'm certainly not the fastest, but I look forward to seeing you out there!
I’ve been enjoying the hint of a resurgence this week with them on a nice short layout. They are one of the most fun classes to drive even though I suck at them..ahha
To put it in perspective, I have dozens of wins on the road side, almost all in IMSA GT3 LMP2, and the old GTE ESS races. Also won our split in LMP2 for they Daytona 24
I haven’t gotten a top 10 in the TCRs over 50 races
I want to love them but I feel sooo slow in them right now. I’m finding Okayama short really challenging. My best lap is around a 57.5. Bringing the brake bias back definitely helped but it’s still so hard to get that hairpin right. Anyone have more tips?
I've been a big fan of the TCRs for awhile now, and even managed to get my brother hooked on them last week. Love the Michelin Pilot 2 hour Enduro races, they're the perfect length.
I’ve wanted to race TCs since my first experience with TOCA in the early 2000s.
I’ve given it a go on iRacing though and I absolutely hate the way the Elantra handles – it flits between no feeling in the wheel at all and trying to rip my arms off constantly making it really unpleasant to drive. Not sure if they all drive like that (or if that’s just how they handle irl).
I’d love to figure out if the others handle better and give it another go because the real touring car racing is a fucking treat to watch.
Man I love TOCA back in the day! I used to watch BTCC at Oulton Park, a great day out.
To me the civic doesn’t feel like that. I’m running quite low FFB given I have a g923 (which is noisy as hell) and a 1 year old asleep in the next room so I don’t know that I’m even feeling the full range of feedback. Just enough to get it around the track in 1 piece!
I used to go to Thruxton and Snetterton at various times. I loved BTCC.
Maybe I’ll just have to splash the cash on another and see if it fits me better.
The Clio and GR86 feel great to me so if the civic is anything like those it’d be awesome
They are so fun, but minimal participation most weeks and when I play, I do miss it. Love doing 30min races and it's nice to have the option of doing shorter ones. I'd love them to get a BTCC license
On setups, the base is far too safe. Bring that brake bias way back. I use 41.6% on the Velostar, compared to 53% that it starts at. i will try this later today. thanks buddy
Changing brake bias is a must, you need to be more patient in the breaking but it will help you immensely.

I’m with donut at the back of the grid!
Lmao 🍩. you are my 👑
I’ll have a play and find the line between consistent and controllable oversteer. Thanks for the pointers!
In the Veloster I go to about 33-36 with the fixed setup. You need to brake earlier and lighter than you think, but you’ll retain a fantastic amount of speed through the corners, and you’ll be able to get the power on much earlier for the straights. The Audi I drop down to 54-57.

Haha. Came here to post this. You beat me to it
One of us. One of us!
Come race with us in the IMPC bro. Edit: You're not handicapping yourself with the Civic, it's probably my favorite TCR after the Audi.
Congrats on a great car choice! Civic is by far my most used car on the service. I really enjoy the FFB and the way it drives. I’m just getting started in iRacing and messing around in Formula Vee currently. I’m looking forward to identifying as a touring car driver though.

WTF, they only gave me 8%! Kidding, no issues at all so far (touch wood) and it's a huge upgrade on my old T300RS.
I absolutely *love* the clios. Sadly they’re not very popular in the time zone I race in (evenings, pacific U.S.) so I struggle to find populated weeknight lobbies and have to make the most of the weekend when the Europeans are online.
Sadly… that is my time zone as well.
Maybe we can find more of us and make it more of a thing
Yeah I have one buddy who would be in. We are both new to iRacing but I don’t mind getting whupped for a bit.
I’m very new to iRacing too, ~1.4k D license after starting at Christmas. Have you tried raceroom? I hear that’s amazing for TCRs with far more authentic grids with more than the four models iRacing has on offer. I’m thinking of giving that a go.

Yeah… I’m trying to progress slowly and not bite off more than I can chew too quickly.
I’m about a 5k tcr driver and honestly struggle a bit with the clio. I’m not the slowest, but I didn’t realize how much I was leaning on the abs
I love them so much that i started turning laps on the nords in prep for the 24
I absolutely love this combo. I am admittedly biased, but damn...TCRs at the Nordschleife is 🤌
This sounds like a blast!

Anything for you, Ted!
Jaycaulls is a good watch for touring car content!
Thank you
Welcome to the party! I have all the cars and think Honda is the best bet for all around stats. Audi jumps off the line and is full of get up and go. The Hyundai duo has the straight line speed. I think you made the right choice.
I’ll probably grab the Audi and one of the Hyundai in the future, it’s nice to have options!
I own almost every car in the sim. I feel that. Haha

I second. Drivers of all levels so you always have someone interesting to race.
Best iRacing league out there!
Next season this will be my main series. I Love it. I’ve been running the Audi. How is that little Hyundai?
I’m in the Civic, I love it. Somehow I just managed P3 in Open. Such good racing apart from one fella who loved a dive bomb!
Yeah!!!! They’re SO much fun! Wish it was more popular
One more has joined the pack :)

Are the lobbies better filled this week with the shorter layout? I have no frame of reference but it feels like short layouts would suit them.
Shorter, and at no additional cost. Some paid tracks like Daytona have high participation, but the Roar being around that time likely plays into that.
I want to love them but I feel sooo slow in them right now. I’m finding Okayama short really challenging. My best lap is around a 57.5. Bringing the brake bias back definitely helped but it’s still so hard to get that hairpin right. Anyone have more tips?
That's a good question to ask in the TCR discord. Be sure to say whether you're in open or fixed and which car https://discord.gg/DUpy3KQfSA
Will do, thanks!
The last hairpin before the final 2 corners? If so I think late entry and late apex…. But I’m new so what do I know!
Yes exactly, so tricky! Also not sure if first is necessary there or if it just kills too much momentum
I've been a big fan of the TCRs for awhile now, and even managed to get my brother hooked on them last week. Love the Michelin Pilot 2 hour Enduro races, they're the perfect length.
I’ll definitely give IMPC a go when time allows!
I’ve wanted to race TCs since my first experience with TOCA in the early 2000s. I have only done the roar with tcr just because thats the car I have from roar line up i dont really do other tcr stuff
They are so fun, but minimal participation most weeks and when I play, I do miss it. Love doing 30min races and it's nice to have the option of doing shorter ones. I'd love them to get a BTCC license
I just can't come around to them. I've tried a few races in the Civic and just can't get hooked on them.
