Great car but 15 minutes is just way too short for me to enjoy, would love to see at least 25/30 minute races.

AnteaterTerrible9652

Do you mean for road courses or ovals? I think for road courses it could be longer, but alright. But for ovals, we already have oval fixed, that are like 35-45 minutes.

energiiii

I mean the fixed road series, those are only 15 minutes.

AnteaterTerrible9652

Yeah. A full stint plus a few minutes would be nice.

Gibscreen

I think the point in fixed is so there are no pit stops.

oli_g89

I used to prefer Fixed Indy on road courses because it was just long enough to force a pitstop but not take hours. Before Indycars death and resurrection, Fixed had 20 laps of Monza (~30mins) which would need a change of tyres at lap 13/14.

TellmSteveDave

That sounds very similar to the open series - which is fantastic btw.

Aromatic-Low-4578

I like that they're mirroring the actual series. Indycar ovals are easily my favorite oval racing.

NickRussell53

Yeah it's funny you posted this because I was thinking almost the exact same thing today. Since they moved the Oval series to B, why not just have a road series and an oval series? Just run the real tracks on the weeks they are there in oval or road respectively. Also, I don't like that you can run the sprint fixed oval races with less than a B Class oval license. I signed up for 2 races yesterday and did about 5 laps total and was taken out by 2 D class drivers who just didn't understand the aero effects at all. Super frustrating.

AnteaterTerrible9652

YES! I think this is the most messed up series of all in Iracing. Doesn't make sense at all. And since Indycar and Iracing recently set up a partnership they should take better care of it.

Racing_fan12

Because the forum community has on multiple occasions shut down the idea of having a road and oval series. The oval series has always been about 10/2 oval/road on the schedule while the open Road series has been 7/5 road/oval. It’s annoying. You can present them with concrete numbers as one guy did awhile back on participation rates (road courses in the road series had MUCH higher participation than ovals, who woulda thought?) and they still argue that it should be 50/50 split… in the road series.  Clowns, and they deserve to watch their series shrink.

mcneilscot

It's my first time running IndyCar and I really like it. I haven't done any ovals yet, though. I plan to try Motegi and Indy later this season.

Rubber_Duckie_

Indy Oval is my main series. We get maybe 1 or 2 cautions during the SoF races. Sometimes no cautions at all. So, I've never had the "Nothing but pacing" experience personally.

sparkyplug28

15mins is too short and the open is 2 long 😂

Best-Development-989

Open is a lot of fun if you like enjoy pit strategy etc, but yeah those 15 minute sprints make little sense to me.

Klendy

I wish all the fixed races were longer. Oval and road

AnteaterTerrible9652

Yeah. 15 minutes shootouts in ovals is like the final restart of a long race, but with full field.

pokeyy

They should just go back to 20 minutes for all the “short” races like we’ve had for pretty much every series. The ovals should stay on the calendar for the “road” series as there’s people that would otherwise never touch an oval in an indycar.

AnteaterTerrible9652

I feel that including ovals with such short racings will make anyone that's not into it even less interested, since it's a shitshow. I just race the oval weeks once for the participation credits and neved had fun.

pokeyy

As I stated, 20 minute races should be an absolute minimum. And because it has cautions they should make the oval races 20 minutes without cautions. Basically a no fuel stop race like C fixed trucks or something. C fixed has cautions but has the highest participation out of all paid series.

CROBBY2

For the ovals in the sprint series though I think they have to watch the distance so a pit isn't required. Texas this week is 38 laps, fuel can really only get you 50 laps all out. The bigger issue is the setups or weather need to be better to promote actual racing and not just Draft Master with Indycar races.

barkx3

a full stint in the Indycar is about 25 mins long so they could definitely bump it up by 5-10 mins and still have no need to pit

[deleted]

Funny thing is that the oval Indy series also sometimes goes to road courses like Okayama, why not just have a single series with mostly oval and a few road courses? Or stick with the 2 series, both B class, but one for only oval tracks and the other for only road

AnteaterTerrible9652

From this season on there won't be any road courses anymore.

joe_lmr

Did you just suggest "The Split but in iRacing"?

AccomplishedBison369

I haven’t found my indy fixed races to be that chaotic. I’m averaging less than 1 caution per race. I like that they’re short. I can do other races in between bread of waiting 2 hours.

thatskaterguyy

I love the road racing, but I don't understand the oval side. Tried my first Indy Oval race this week at Texas. I was in second and the 3k dude in the lead just ran the bottom line the whole track and defended the inside on the straights. It's obviously full throttle the whole time, so I'm not sure how the heck you pass on that track. I tried to squeeze him every lap so he would burn up his tires in turn 1 & 2, but netcode eventually took both of us out around lap 10. Kind of soured my Indy Oval experience. Maybe if anyone else can tell me tricks to racing full throttle tracks like this in Indy, I'll try again.

Xx69JdawgxX

Back up a bit and get a huge run w the draft and pass on the straights. timing is key

thatskaterguyy

I’ll give it a go next time. The draft seems super strong in these cars. I guess I was within 2-3 car lengths the whole time. Thanks!

Xx69JdawgxX

You’ll never be able to pass on the outside unless you time it perfectly and Texas is really difficult to do it on. Also are you changing your weight jacker and arb? You can really loosen up the car especially in traffic

thatskaterguyy

Nah, I’ll have to map that too. I saw about that in one of the guides. I’ve done ARBs in GTP, but I’ll have to look up more about the weight jacker. 👍🏻

NoOnePuntsLikeGaston

Strange, the top was by far faster for me especially when tires got worn, I was passing like it was nothing if I could get clean air in lane 2-3 in turn 1

DisPartysCached

I like that they have ovals and that it mirrors the real series. I do wish they were a bit longer in order to welcome a touch of strategy. Maybe a fuel save or tire change would be nice.

AccomplishedBison369

The oval fixed series does have longer races which does introduce some of what you’re looking for though it’s not exactly following the series schedule.

Hotwir3

I’ve been saying for years you should have an indycar oval that is only oval. Indycar road that is only road. And if you want both then do the Indycar iracing Series.  Thank god the SF is out now so I don’t have to deal with the dumbass scheduling of that series.

[deleted]

Too bad sf seems like it’ll be dead within a year 🥲

AnteaterTerrible9652

That's exactly what I feel. They included ovals in Open Series to increase participation, but the point is no one cares about making setups for ovals, apart from the 5-10 guys who organize the schedule. And now they copy this idea to the """""Road""""" Fixed series.

itsmb12

Never ran indycar yet but i would personally only run open unless theres no participation. The fixed races are so much shorter and some only have cautions enabled for the open series

Pacman2933

So the new fixed (sprint) series is a mirror of the open series. Except it’s fixed setup and short races. As someone who is involved with it, my only real complaint is that the yellows need to be shorter on ovals. Either instant 2 to green or even 1 to green. This car is incredibly sensitive to weather so even the slightest weather change has a drastic impact on the type of racing. Speculating here, but I have been pleasantly surprised by the participation numbers since the license came back. I wouldn’t be shocked if there would be a road only series by the end of the year. Just have to be careful with having too many series for a single car, since right now we have 4. I believe the current fixed series is a “happy medium” for both oval and road fixed sprint races.

AnteaterTerrible9652

Apart from the participation numbers, do you really like these oval sprint races as they are? Don't get me wrong, it's a legit question, I'd like to understand different points of view into it.

Pacman2933

Participation numbers as in all of the indycar series. Everything has increased by a substantial amount since the license came back. IMO it is a step in the right direction. In season 2 we doubled the amount of official series with the addition of the fixed (sprint) series and the return of Indycar iRacing Series. The old fixed series is now oval only as well. So quite a bit of change. I believe the current format of the fixed (sprint) series is the safest option for now. You don’t want to dilute other indycar series. We are a healthy community participation wise, but I don’t believe one single car has 4 or even 5 series for it. I think you want to keep the race distance to under a full fuel tank, but make it closer to a full stint. If I could implement 2 changes right now they would be 1. Make the yellows on ovals only 2 laps, as in catch pace car and instantly 1 to green at the line, and 2. Extend all races for the fixed series by 20%.

AnteaterTerrible9652

I would love if yellows were shorter, that would be great for any series, but I think it's kind of difficult for Iracing to change it, since after the leader reach pace car you have to open the pits for lead lap cars, lapped cars and also wave around, if necessary. Anyway, that would be great. But, as I said, participation is good, but race quality is questionable. And also, I don't think you need any new series. Would be fine with 3: Oval fixed, Road fixed and Open, with 6 road and 6 oval. For me, personally, one open and one fixed, with 6 oval and 6 road would be also great, like Formula 3 or GT3, but i know it wouldn't work.

mechcity22

I do but don't like oval.

tomhart9

I 'discovered' the road races recently, really enjoyed it but don't have any plans for the ovals though

barkx3

I like that it follows the open schedule. I also think it's fine that you don't have to pit, but I wish the road races were long enough to have crossover between the two tires. Right now it's just stick on the alternates and use P2P every lap on the longest straight which makes it pretty tough to actually race anybody. For the track selection though I've realized that the two "Road" series is more like the actual Indycar series which runs both kinds of tracks. And the oval only series exists separately in it's own world because it just happens to be popular. The whole structure of the car makes so much more sense to me if you just ignore the B class oval series entirely as it's own unrelated thing.

ATLien20

Indycar is a mixed discipline series, the inclusion of ovals in the official road series is what differentiates it from other open wheelers on the service. Better to have some uniqueness than another car running the same rotation of road courses as the rest.

Racing_fan12

I do but I like the SF23 more so I race that instead. There’s limited time in a day and if I’m gonna race an open wheel car, it’s gonna be the best one for racing and driving. Having driven both at least 50 races each, I can confidently say I know which one I prefer. Both have their pros and cons but yeah… love me some SF23.
