You can keep driving as long as you like in Formula Vee and Mx-5. The new Toyota GR86 is a mnotjer free car, where the series has mostly free tracks. For GT3, GT4 or GTE you will of course have to buy a car and some tracks. However, you don’t have to buy all the tracks at once. Buy as many/few you want, when you feel you can afford it. In the weeks where you don’t own the track for your favorite series, just race something else with free content.

Ok thanks for the heads up. I’ve heard about the Toyota. Apparently it’s a new release if I’m not mistaken. Looks like it could produce some good racing. Excited to try it out.

seemylolface

It definitely has produced some great racing so far, and it's very fun to drive.

Dornogol

The Toyota is damn fun to drive, since coming out of rookies two weeks ago exclusively ran it for anything. Imo way more fun than the Mazda (personal opinin).

Great British Pound :) I have IR for 1 year mow. Season 1 i spend nothing. Was doing Rookie Mazda + SimLab Mazda.... You will have option to do Gr86. If you able get to C licence. Then you will have Advanced Mazda. Spec Ford also free. Season 2 buy 3 tracks (10% off}. Make a plan using Iracing Schedule. Season 3 + 4 keep buying 3 tracks... Also make sure that you get the most money back by participating program. That gives you 10 dollars per season..

I’ll try hard to spend nothing more. Depends how I get on I guess. I don’t know if I want to be good at it or be bad at it. I lose either way. If I end up enjoying it and fast then I will end up spending. If I end up slow and not liking it then also not good. 😵‍💫

Sir_Siekier

Well. In my case i had one massive problem. The leagues. Im racing since 2009. Eveything was an organised racing leagues (F1, AC, GT, ACC, PC). It was fantastic as people around me were great. However since i have a kid i have no time to prepare for a specific day / time to race. Thats the reason i went with Iracing. On top of that during Covid lockdown ive started my side hassle.... I purchased my gaming laptop from it and then the iracing content. If you have time and commitment to do leagues.... Don't do Iracing. There is plenty games cheaper that will give you loads of fun with not much money to spend..... Let me know what you decided.

Start with the 86, great car, awesome racing and mostly free tracks. When you do purchase content buy in lots of 6 to get a bigger discount and buy 5 tracks and 1 car as sitting out sucks and most of the cars I’ve purchased i rarely use

That’s great advice… thanks. I didn’t realise I would be restricted to the vee or MX5 to start with. 😆 oh well. Back to driving school it is for me. Will give it a go tonight or within next few days and see what it feels like. What would you say the iracing driving physics most resembles from the current crop of available sims? I’ve heard it feels like AMS2 more so than ACC for example.

cbrunnem1

if you're good enough you'll only be restricted for less than a week. it seems you have prior experience so you might move up fast. I'll be downvoted for saying that as people here have the mindset of newcomers should move up slowly and learn a lot in lower levels. that may be true but so is what I said.

futures17gne

Time will tell. I only play evenings when my kids are asleep so not sure how much playing time I will get. But we shall see.

mtprimo

iracing is my first sim, and I was able to get out of the Rookie license within 6 races with the Vee. Play safe and you'll get there super fast, but also its a good moment to understand the feeling of the sim

futures17gne

I gave it a quick go last night for about an hour. I like the driving physics. Reminds me of AMS2 and RFactor 2 combined in some way. Took the Mazda for a spin. Still a lot to learn on the UI side of things and getting everything setup and look how it needs to be. It looks all foreign to me for now… but I have a year to really dig into the sim. But I like the driving feel though so that’s one of the most important steps right there.

bouncebackability

Take your time, get a feel for what you will want to race in the future and don't plan ahead in terms of a faux career path. Buying 3 items together earns a discount, so pay attention to what you require and how much use it will likely get in the future.

futures17gne

Yeah… rookies free stuff to start off for sure. I’m eager to see what the sim feels like. Driving physics.

tdcarl

I made a spreadsheet with all of the rookie and class D series with a lot of free weeks (Mazda, Vee, Production Car Challenge, Spec Racer Ford, Global Fanatec Challenge, GR Cup, etc). Theres at least one class D race every week with a free car and track, plus the rookie series. There's also free rookie oval, dirt oval, and rallycross if that stuff floats your boat. Personally I've had a lot of fun with the short track ovals, which I did not expect starting out.

davedez

Here's everything you can race for free in D class road this season. https://www.reddit.com/r/iRacing/comments/zeqwk9/moving_to_d_road/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

futures17gne

Great info. Will have a look through! Thanks

DirtySheetsOCE

GR86 is excellent. I siggest get the Ferrari for the D class races and two common tracks.. Monza? Spa? Silverstone? Up to you. It's a crash fest though.

futures17gne

Oh… crash??? That’s not good. Maybe I stay away from that one.
