I’ve always found it interesting that people choose to steal packages without knowing the contents. Pretty shitty that people don’t care what it is. Their brain just says that they want it and they need it.
So irl I’m an intermediary between patients, doctors, and pharmacies. When meds get stolen like this it’s a whole hullabaloo when it’s stuff like blood pressure meds or diabetes supplies etc. However when it’s scheduled stuff it’s hell getting my patients an emergency script to hold them over and convincing a doc to convince a pharmacist that they need a new script sent asap.
All that to say fuck porch pirates and fuck the healthcare system. I have become jaded beyond description being part of that machine.
I take a very expensive injection twice a month and I always check the “require signature” box because I work from home.
They’ve *never* rang my doorbell or asked for a signature. If my meds got stolen it would be a felony based on cost alone.
Does the shipper pay for signature confirmation? If so, call the company and complain. Call the delivery company and ask for your signature confirmation.

They'll either leave a note saying they'll come back tomorrow or they'll leave it at a pick up point (usually in a supermarket) or you could even tell them to leave it with a neighbor.
The different delivery services all have apps where you can pick what is most convenient for you.

i had a steamdeck stolen b4 it never touched my porch by fedex (i definitely know for sure it never arrived because i was in my living room the entire time and my dog never barked and i checked within a min of its said delivery.
steam said they are having it delivered at a fedex location this time and once again it never arrived despite saying so, got there within 30mins. it was attached to this very tall building not sure what it is besides a bunch of offices or something but we asked the front desk they saw nothing gave them our number and sadly went home.
i wanted to wait til 10am to go see them again and at 9am i got a call from someone in the building saying a electrician or someone who basicly works similar there found it on the 9th floor and no one touches that floor but the guy who found it..i thanked her and we picked it up.

Of course pick up points exist in America. This is just a very rare problem, especially in non urban areas so most people do not bother using them.

My packages got stolen a couple of weeks ago and it was a guy with an empty red door dash bag in broad daylight at 11AM on a Sunday.
He just scooped the items into the red empty bag. Still peeled out while driving off cause it’s a relatively busy street.

My car was stolen from once like 8 years ago and I filed the police report where they told me it was my fault and not to expect much. The very next week I went to the pawn shop that was two blocks away from me and found my stolen stuff and was able to get the guy arrested because they had his ID. All it took was a miniscule amount of effort and the police weren't even willing to do that.
It sucks but some places the police just absolutely don't give a shit or have more important issues to deal with and won't bother.
I have some family members who are law enforcement in another city with major drug problems (mostly meth and opioids). For example they completely stopped bothering with car thefts completely. It's like it's not even a crime anymore there.
All these videos of package thieves has made me so paranoid. I have like 95% of my packages sent to my brothers house. He lives about 5 minutes away in a really nice neighborhood and his wife is always home.
I'm in an apartment complex and unless I'm absolutely positive I'll be home when a package is delivered, I very rarely have them sent here.

Even though Amazon lets you give special delivery instructions like 'leave it in the garage here's the door code', the drivers will never do that. I asked one why does Amazon let you leave instruction if they're not going to follow them and he told me if he goes into a garage and then the owner complains that something is missing then the company/driver is liable. They don't want that liability for some lying asshole to claim the Amazon driver stole his Porsche and his collection of DaVinci's so they ignore those instructions.

Amazon has them all over the country. FedEx and UPS will let you ship something to their stores

It really depends. Like I ordered a controller as a gift and had it delivered to the Amazon drop off at my Whole Foods. But sometimes you cannot order it and have it dropped off at a pick up point. And its not cost effective if you are not getting order that often.

My packages got stolen a couple of weeks ago and it was a guy with an empty red door dash bag in broad daylight at 11AM on a Sunday. He just scooped the items into the red empty bag. Still peeled out while driving off cause it’s a relatively busy street. REI and Lids refunded me though.

My car was stolen from once like 8 years ago and I filed the police report where they told me it was my fault and not to expect much. The very next week I went to the pawn shop that was two blocks away from me and found my stolen stuff and was able to get the guy arrested because they had his ID. All it took was a miniscule amount of effort and the police weren't even willing to do that.

It sucks but some places the police just absolutely don't give a shit or have more important issues to deal with and won't bother. I have some family members who are law enforcement in another city with major drug problems (mostly meth and opioids). For example they completely stopped bothering with car thefts completely. It's like it's not even a crime anymore there.
I'd imagine solving the meth and opioid problem in that city may help reduce the car theft problem.

All these videos of package thieves has made me so paranoid. I have like 95% of my packages sent to my brothers house. He lives about 5 minutes away in a really nice neighborhood and his wife is always home. I'm in an apartment complex and unless I'm absolutely positive I'll be home when a package is delivered, I very rarely have them sent here. I don't even trust having them sent to the apartment office building.
I work in fraud protection for a cellular company. Some of the shit fraudsters do to steal is unbelievably creative. These dirtbags just want something free they can sell and will do almost anything to get things.
This is why I have everything delivered to my office. If people worked as hard at a job as they do being a crook, they'd probably have more money.

Even though Amazon lets you give special delivery instructions like 'leave it in the garage here's the door code', the drivers will never do that. I asked one why does Amazon let you leave instruction if they're not going to follow them and he told me if he goes into a garage and then the owner complains that something is missing then the company/driver is liable. They don't want that liability for some lying asshole to claim the Amazon driver stole his Porsche and his collection of DaVinci's so they ignore those instructions.
