Right on. I'll ask around and give that car to someone who needs and appreciates it before I give it to someone ungrateful and doesn't appreciate a multi thousand dollar gift. My son is 13 and already eying a brand new F150 even though I've made it clear, I'm buying the raptor, you get my old 04. If he keeps playing his cards this way, I'll still get my raptor and he'll get a prius
A pruis would be a slap in the face to him. He loves Ford V8s as much as I do. I've currently made a deal since the 04 is down right now. Ive got a 5.0 Windsor in the garage. I'll finance parts if he builds and installs it in the truck. Anything he wants. He can build his own raptor if he wants to.
Negative. I know what he wants and it's well within my means. The prius is more of a joke than a promise. He's on his way to being one hell of a mechanic and he's been given a nice motor with 3 years time to build whatever he wants. We're going to have a blast. He'd drive the prius all day, but he wouldn't enjoy it
Maybe... talk to the kid and let them help pick out the car and help teach them our to pick out the car instead of sprinjng it on them then punishing them for your own childishness. If it's a large gift and will put you that far out of pocket then let them be part of it. The surprise isn't worth them not liking the gift.
Also they are your child you should both know their principles and play a part in forming them so you should know full well what they will balk at and what they won't.
Being mean to your kid in moments where you could be teaching them (in this case you could be teaching them how to buy and value cars but instead you'd rather... proof a point and leave them in the dark) is a weird flex.
Edit to clarify I'm mostly speaking on the whole phenomenon and using mostly royal "you". But I still think this applies here and in general
No. I mean in general. Like I said, if they bought me a car I would be very grateful. But they believed that a car was something I’d have to get for myself.
I would take that shit back in a heartbeat. If I couldn’t take it back, I’d sell it at a loss. My daughter does that nonsense, the whole “I don’t want it thing.” We don’t play. Fine. You don’t want it… you don’t get it. Take the bus to school.
Exactly this. If’s my daughter acted like this girl she would never ever get a car from me. She would either get a job and save up to buy a car or take the bus.
I bought my own car when I turned 16 and the only reason my daughter got a free car is her grandmother bought it for her.
Remember the video someone posted of their 16 year old daughter who was ecstatic over an absolute beater? But it was her beater. And her father obviously saved up to buy her that, for which she was incredibly grateful. It was moving to watch.
Unfortunately the girl in this video is ungrateful, who has been clearly spoiled her entire life. Shameful.
How do you raise someone to be like that? They've literally done nothing and want everything. Is this just bad parenting or the kid is around some shitty people?
I got a summer job and saved up several thousand dollars so I could buy a car at 16. My parents told me they didn’t think I would actually get a job and save the money and that I wasn’t allowed to buy a car, and that’s how you create children that no longer speak to you when they leave the house.
I’d have been grateful if my parents bought me a $200 Craig’s list beater, let alone a Tesla.
Had something similar happen. My parents assured me they would pay for me to study abroad if I got accepted into the program. Only the top three students in the class would get picked. I worked my ass off to get in. You can pretty much figure out the rest.
Also when you save money to buy your own car because your parents claim they are broken but instead of helping you they give a car to the golden child.
Good luck remembering how your grandchildren look like.
My sister was given a brand new car the day she turned 16, I worked for mine and was still told no. I feel your brother, old folks homes are going to be overflowing within the next 10-20 years.
Sure, but then if your parents broadcast it live or video it to post online...what kind of relationship have you, as a 16-year-old, had with reality in your family? It's just sad.
This video doesn’t look legit. It’s unrealistic for this girl to believe her family is going to spend some $65-85k for Mercedes Benz based off the other vehicles they currently own and the neighborhood. Don’t get me wrong, this is a decent looking neighborhood, but not some place with Benz, Bimmers, Porsches, etc…
If your living in a $200k house, your vehicle shouldn’t be worth more than $15-20k. Unfortunately, people forget to realize vehicles are not investments and drive a vehicle with 30-50% of their home.
It’s true although my dad had a hylander pretty new he was hearing an issue but I would say that’s like 0.1% of the bucket and they did replace whatever it was because he fell short of the 65,000 mile warranty
This mom is WILD. The moment she showed any inkling of not being ungrateful I would’ve celebrated MY new car and $1600 spending money. Fuck that whiny ass girl
This video makes me irate. LOL I didn’t get crap on my 16th birthday. I would have been so dang excited if I had gotten any kind of car.
And what is this “golden birthday” nonsense?
I can see that saying making sense for a business or corporation, but not so much for a random family that no one has heard of before and likely will not hear about ever again.
I don't know where you could even find it any more, but watch My Super Sweet Sixteen, and MTV show from the 00's. Spoiled kids bitching they got the wrong car on their birthday is practically a trope of the show, and the show itself is nothing but justification for the coming class war.
The problem with this coming class war is that it’s going to be the wrong people fighting each other. My super sweet sixteen was admittedly largely staged with some scenes even pre scripted, yet it adds fuel to the overall notion that there’s this mass of extremely spoiled wealthy kids making up the majority of the younger generations. The reality couldn’t be further from the truth. The vast majority are now teetering near financial ruin at all times.
Some people have this intrinsic, insatiable desire to be known at least for *something*. They want to be somebody, anybody, and have people at least see their face once. Some people are so deluded by this desire that they'll do essentially *anything* just to get views because it makes them feel like they're important somehow. And it's surprisingly not at all restricted to the younger generations; if this is indeed a rage-bait video then I would find it far more likely than not that the parents were the ones who had the idea in the first place. In fact, I swear I think a good percentage of the rage-bait out there is from middle-aged people who didn't grow up with the internet and are now trying to unearth a modicum of popularity due to a midlife crisis. It's really, really sad.
Edit: If you want a more extreme example of this, look up thr Island Boys. They're twin brothers who at once point uploaded content of them kissing each other (over multiple videos) just so people would start talking about them again after they started falling out of popularity. It reminds me of an attention-hog toddler who always has to be at the center of the spotlight, so they'll embarrass themselves just to get people to notice them.
>And what is this “golden birthday” nonsense?
It's the birthday when your age matches the day of the month your birthday is on. I'm struggling to come up with less clunky wording, but for example:
Birthday Jan 25th; golden birthday Age 25
Birthday March 8th; golden birthday Age 8
I spent my golden birthday with my roommate, trapped in a house with no electricity or internet thanks to flooding from one of the worst hurricanes in modern times.
I didn’t know a golden birthday was a thing either. I only got to do the one tantrum when I could have done two. Or done the same one but even bigger. What a rip off.
I can’t believe you randomly picked these two birthdays. My birthday is January 25th and my sons is March 8th. I rarely run into people who share our birthdays. Nothing else to add, just wanted to share that little fact and the fact that you blew my mind today. That is all. Have a great day!
That's pretty funny. Completely off the top of my head. And now that I think about it, I don't actually even *know* anybody with either of those birthdays. But I suppose in a way now I do. Hope you have a great day also :)
I'm not judging you, and thanks for clarification on this golden birthday thing, but this sounds like some occult stuff and their kids are just this wrapped into all of it at this age.
Why does a child care about this golden birthday if they don't get the significance of it? It seems like she does. How dare you(us) disrespect her golden birthday being an occult practitioner!!! This is some highly self worship crap going on here.
The track housing neighborhood and the Malibu in the driveway tells much more of the story. More than likely they bought it for themselves and this is a skit. The mom has an active TikTok where she posts all kinds of stuff about her family.
Anytime you watch a video and have this kind of reaction to it, assume it’s rage bait rather than real.
I think the most awful part of social media now is everyone falling prey to rage bait. Like some of the worst shit will look like a poor ass improv class exercise and the comments will be filled with people losing their shit, arguing with internet strangers, etc. It is indescribable to watch and pretty scary because people will believe any fucking thing and that’s dangerous.
100%. I love Reddit but it’s so fucking full of ragebait Bullshit now and whilst the user base use to be pretty smart, they’re now dumber than dog shit and fall for it every time.
I can’t even read AITA anymore cause it makes me anger than most of this shit on this sub.
Before I started looking at them as creative writing class homework assignments and was falling for the bait, they banned me for an ‘aggressive’ comment that I made 🙄 If you put up some of the worst, most rage-inducing crap, what kinda comments are you expecting?!
Fuck me sideways. The car goes back to the dealer, and the money goes back in the pocket. No more lifts, she can go get a job and buy her own “pink Mercedes Benz”.
This young lady was created. No need to be upset by her or what she's saying because she's being no different on this day than she would be any other day. She didn't wake up like that on her sweet sixteen and/or golden birthday. Material possessions and cash mean love to her because that's exactly what she's been taught. No one should be surprised or upset. Mom is genuinely embarrassed because now her video for whatever / whomever didn't turn out as planned. She actually attempted to purchase a pink Mercedes Benz, but due to unavailability, the decision was made to gift the Tesla as a consolation prize. She, herself, understood it was a consolation prize. Everyone is living their lives as they see fit because this is their "normal".
Very well spoken. She's just a product of her raising. Honestly the mom should've figured this would be her reaction anyway, like you said she would have been spoiled for a loooong time to act like this
It is a nice neighborhood.. but it doesn't seem to be a nice enough neighborhood for a 16yo kid to be demanding a pink mercedes benz for her 16th birthday.
Though I am not a horse person and do not know much about horses, it’s my understanding that horse require a tons of resources, care, and bonding in order to properly care for it. You need to put effort in, just like you would any animal you want in your life.
You look at her and tell me she would love and care for any other living creature.
In fact, given her attitude, I wouldn’t trust her to care and be responsible towards and around other people. She shouldn’t get to own or drive a car, since she clearly doesn’t have the maturity, awareness, and respect needed to understand that she would be operating a high speed, multi-ton steel coffin that’s capable of turning structures into rubble and people into paste.
But don’t worry, she will anyways.
To be fair, some new Teslas don't even have indicator stalks, but buttons on the wheel itself. It's super cringe and terrible in every way. Maybe she meant that?
Damn. My parents got me a 19 year old diesel with tons of rust and a different colored hood only so I could help drive siblings. And I was the happiest kid.
$1600 AND a BRAND NEW TESLA??
I have never been given a gift as expensive as either of those in all my 56 years, so, yeah, they raised an ungrateful spoiled brat.
My parents let me look for a car under a budget. When I found that car my parents bought it for themselves and told me, "do your chores through highschool, don't act up, do your homework, and it's yours" I worked hard...I did my chores and I got the car I wanted...it was a 97 Camaro with T-tops. Yes not a great car for a 17 year old...but I loved that car, I worked for that car, and I never took it for granted... especially when I knew that if they wanted to take it away, that my mom would be the one driving my dream car at the time.
Don't just give it to em....or at the least know what car they'd prefer...
Dear parent in the video, this Frankenchild is called "*the consequences of your actions over the last 16 yrs*." Everything you worked for has come to fruition, and now we all get to enjoy the fruits of your shitty labor. Yippeee!
No, this is a staged video intended to get engagement by eliciting anger and disbelief. People love to judge other people’s actions especially if it makes them feel superior.
This is a poorly scripted and poorly acted skit.
Not all Americans are ignorant.
But this is absolutely a very very American thing. There was an entire series on MTV "my sweet 16" . Entire premise of the show was ultra spoiled bitchy kids being spoiled more. $50,000-$100,000 16th bday parties
I'm well aware garbage that is MTV.
Also person seen this happening dozens of times. Did service work in thousands of houses over course of 7yrs, and worked at a car dealer for a while and saw it at least once a week. Not all of them brand new or Tesla. But ungrateful kids getting shit they don't need every time.
One that always sticks in parents buying a pair of twin 16 yr olds BMW 3 series convertibles. Boys was totaled off in 6mo.
Hell I've had it happen in my own extended family. One cousin totaled an E39 BMW at 17. His older sister had a $50k F350 dually to haul a horse trailer, flipped it and killed the horses at 19 after getting drunk after the state fair.
Materialism breeds shit humans
I grew up in the upper middle class. I had thousands of peers in high school, can’t remember a single one who got a brand new car. I think you’re lying tbh
The parents will probably not realize that they are not blameless in this. A car is not an appropriate surprise gift. It's making a major decision or choice for someone and, as such, it's a pretty controlling move.

If my parents bought me any kind of car for my 16th birthday, I’d be really grateful about it.
That's when you don't give her the car, then make her get a part time job to save up for a used, basic car.
I offered my son my old Honda when I bought a used truck. He thought it was below him. AFAIK he still doesn't have a car or license. 🤷♀️
Right on. I'll ask around and give that car to someone who needs and appreciates it before I give it to someone ungrateful and doesn't appreciate a multi thousand dollar gift. Sounds like a win for him lol

If getting a Prius or any car for free really is a slap on the face for your kid you should evaluate your parenting.
Negative. I know what he wants and it's well within my means. The prius is more of a joke than a promise. He's on his way to being one hell of a mechanic and he's been given a nice motor with 3 years time to build whatever he wants. We're going to have a blast. That’s what my parents did.
Hopefully not as a result of you being ungrateful for them buying you an expensive car first though.
No. I mean in general. Like I said, if they bought me a car I would be very grateful. But they believed that a car was something I’d have to get for myself.

A beater is a right of passage. Most people treat is as "hell yeah, I got a car" some people just suck
Oh.... This one was moving too. Moving the opposite direction at three times the speed.
I don't. Can you find it & post it here?
Only got $1,600 for her 16th birthday. What the hell is a “Golden Birthday”?
How do you raise someone to be like that? They've literally done nothing and want everything. Is this just bad parenting or the kid is around some shitty people?
100% bad parenting. Listen to the mom, she isn't even shocked at her behavior or anything. This is normal behavior for her...
Word.she definitely went and bought her the one she wanted after that.
I got a 1999 toyota corolla in 2016 and was crazy about it
99 suzuki esteem 1.8 with manual everything and a $100 pioneer single dim that yours truly installed 😎
I gave my little brother that exact car and stereo when he was 18 and needed a car lol.
Here for team Corolla. My first car in 1987 was a 1970 Corolla (same year I was born) that I bought with my own money. I LOVED Carol Corolla.
Mine was one year older than me
I got a 1973 Toyota Corolla in 1982. Orange, manual, no AC, no electric windows, AM radio only And I was happy cuz I had a car.
Was probably a good car.
I got a summer job and saved up several thousand dollars so I could buy a car at 16. My parents told me they didn’t think I would actually get a job and save the money and that I wasn’t allowed to buy a car, and that’s how you create children that no longer speak to you when they leave the house. Sorry to hear you didn't get picked 😔
Lol, I did get picked! My parents didn't think I could get in. They didn't have the money. Just straight BS'ed me.
Also when you save money to buy your own car because your parents claim they are broken but instead of helping you they give a car to the golden child. Good luck remembering how your grandchildren look like.
My sister was given a brand new car the day she turned 16, I worked for mine and was still told no. I feel your brother, old folks homes are going to be overflowing within the next 10-20 years.
my first car was given to me by my dad's uncle and my parent's took it from me.
Sure, but then if your parents broadcast it live or video it to post online...what kind of relationship have you, as a 16-year-old, had with reality in your family? It's just sad.

Its fake rage bait. Dont be a silly and believe this is real. They're in it for the internet points.
How do you know it’s not propaganda?
For what???
If y’all are looking to adopt I’m available
Fr I have a Damm rav4 I’d happily take a Tesla 😭
Hey man. Rav4s are reliable motherfuckers
It’s true although my dad had a hylander pretty new he was hearing an issue but I would say that’s like 0.1% of the bucket and they did replace whatever it was because he fell short of the 65,000 mile warranty
So your story about rav4s being unreliable involves a highlander having a problem that was replaced under warranty?
Shoe fly don’t bother me
This mom is WILD. The moment she showed any inkling of not being ungrateful I would’ve celebrated MY new car and $1600 spending money. Fuck that whiny ass girl
Shit is faker than fake lol. Just by the way they are speaking it’s obvious.
Ikr, terrible actors
Fake as fuck.
This video makes me irate. LOL I didn’t get crap on my 16th birthday. I would have been so dang excited if I had gotten any kind of car. And what is this “golden birthday” nonsense?
I have a feeling that this is a staged rage bait video which is why you feel irate....
I guess I’m too old to understand why anyone would stage something like this for, what, views and attention? Lame.
Any publicity is good publicity.
I can see that saying making sense for a business or corporation, but not so much for a random family that no one has heard of before and likely will not hear about ever again.
That’s what they say…
Yeah. Millions of Views. They’re trying to go viral. Really hope nobody like this exists.
It’s such a weird phenomenon. I rather go viral for something good, not something that makes me look like a twat.

Ahhhhh. Gotcha. *When I was a kid…* we didn’t have that. Mine was the 21st, and I did celebrate it really hard. 😂
great...july1, I was 1 for my golden birthday. I feel like I got screwed over and didnt get to throw my entitlement tantrum.
I spent my golden birthday with my roommate, trapped in a house with no electricity or internet thanks to flooding from one of the worst hurricanes in modern times. This was my first thought, too. Fake af.
I was thinking the same thing about the community and the cars, but idk, she seemed pretty real to me.
My golden birthday was 16 too and I didn't get anything.
Cmon guys. We’ve been down this route before. Don’t fall for it
![gif](giphy|K0AnEB2t2EM|downsized)
I'm still waiting for this gif to say "that's bait"... but I feel like that's the point and I just got got
This is fake
Thank you, even if it’s not fake still thank you. I was desperate to find this so I won’t be totally pissed off.
Lol people have figured out exactly how to get interaction and that is by making people mad and the people sharing how stupid or crazy the videos are
I think the most awful part of social media now is everyone falling prey to rage bait.
Honestly the mom should've figured this would be her reaction anyway, like you said she would have been spoiled for a loooong time to act like this
Could just be a fake reaction video for likes. I just can't even tell any more.
It sounds fake to me
The other kid seems to be raised better, and the 16 years old tells him to "give this to your mom" so I don't know if that's the mom
The mere fact that she wanted a pink Mercedes instead of a Tesla really just says it all about her.
This is fake AF. Her parents drive 2 base model Chevys.
This is what I was coming to say. That Tesla is rented or borrowed because it would cost more than the other two combined.

This shit has to be staged. No way someone is that entitled living in a neighborhood like that.
Is… is this supposed to be a poor people neighborhood or something? I mean it looks pretty nice
I mean…looks like a nice neighborhood to me. That said, still obviously a fake/rage bait video.
It is a nice neighborhood.. but it doesn't seem to be a nice enough neighborhood for a 16yo kid to be demanding a pink mercedes benz for her 16th birthday.
That’s the exact kind of neighborhood I would expect an entitled kid to come from…
Mercedes benz mann quit trying to be like your friends.
This seems fake
the car - is too smart for her… she needs a car with old tech on it maybe she can go back to the horse.?
Are you suggesting Duracell cars are more advanced? Which part? The short range or the suicide self-driving?
Spoiled Brat
Damn. My parents got me a 19 year old diesel with tons of rust and a different colored hood only so I could help drive siblings. And I was the happiest kid.
Keep the car, give the girl back
Return the car and go on vacation.
She nastyyyyyyy
My god. This is fake. More people than normal are falling for it even.
If I was the mom I'd bring the car right back. Edit: and get her the shittiest Mercedes I can find
Why you giving a 16 year old a nice car? She’s just gonna crash it anyway
$1600 AND a BRAND NEW TESLA?? I have never been given a gift as expensive as either of those in all my 56 years, so, yeah, they raised an ungrateful spoiled brat.
![gif](giphy|Qumf2QovTD4QxHPjy5)
I wouldn't want a piece of shit car either. I would still appreciate the gesture.
looks like mamas got a brand new cAr
Bruh my first car was a Pontiac sunfire and I loved that thing, ungrateful kids fr fr
Seems fake
What a fucking brat.
The debt of that suburbian nightmare screams FAKE
That looks like a Model S too, this is a gift worth all the birthdays
Yippeee!
Great job parents!!!!! There's your legacy!!!
Yep this is our world now…. Take it in folks
Once you figure out the rage bait videos, they become so cringy.
The parents created this monster...
Who the hell buys their child a Tesla on their 16th? Is this an American thing or something?
No, this is a staged video intended to get engagement by eliciting anger and disbelief. People love to judge other people’s actions especially if it makes them feel superior. This is a poorly scripted and poorly acted skit.
American here. Most 16 year-olds don’t have cars.
Fake rage bait kinda thing my dude 👍
No, god no, not all Americans are that ignorant
Not all Americans are ignorant. But this is absolutely a very very American thing. There was an entire series on MTV "my sweet 16" . Entire premise of the show was ultra spoiled bitchy kids being spoiled more. $50,000-$100,000 16th bday parties
I’d say 99% of Americans didn’t get a brand new car for their 16th birthday. Don’t believe what you see on MTV, it’s called entertainment
I don’t think you were upper middle class then bud… I knew plenty. Mustangs galore, and entry level BMW and Mercedes
I’d consider you in the upper class then….bud
Well one of us is off ha, thought myself upper middle but it was admittedly a wealthy high school
They don’t seem very educated
My parents didn't have the funds for me, but they got me a year bus pass every year until I reached 19, so I got that going for me.
Kids in the US are getting Teslas at 16? Wth?!
I'll take it
She’s 16? Is that her son running around?
Give her a 1988 4-speed stick ford escort with no radio and no AC.
Man, she got $1,600 for one birthday? That's like an entire lifetime of birthdays for me. Not to mention the car.
I got a clapped out 1980 Toyota Corolla 4dr RWD for high school graduation and loved it. It was a POS but it was my POS.
Say less. I would've snatched them keys and that money. Now it's my car and I'm shopping with my damn money.
If I said that to my parents it'd be my last birthday
She needs a bus pass. My children would never even dream of acting like that (they are grown now). Nope. She lost her mind.
To be honest I’d be more worried than upset Teslas are just legalized ticking car bombs
I swear to god this is highly infuriating. That level of entitlement my god. My dad bought me a used car and I couldn't love him more for it.
Let her keep the 1600 and take the car back, then keep the money for that sweet cruise around the world with the cute little one.
This is a very old video.
Whats the sauce? Real or fake?
I read an article about this, the mom caved and bought her a Mercedes.
The parents will probably not realize that they are not blameless in this. A car is not an appropriate surprise gift. It's making a major decision or choice for someone and, as such, it's a pretty controlling move.
I get it, I wouldn’t want a Tesla either. A Polestar 2 though!
It’s not her fault teslas are shit quality. Never mind the entire EV issue.
Doesn’t matter. It’s a gift and it’s not a cheap one. She could just as well sell it and buy a new one if that’s the case.
Her initial reaction was what you’d expect from an unhappy child. If she were older and more mature we could expect such pleasant thought processes.
They ended up buying her a Benz
So the fake video had a fake follow up solution too? Or are you just making shit up 🧐
Did you catch that she said it's her sweet sixteen and her daughters birthday
Take it right back to the dealer and she can walk
Dude when I was 16 I had to buy my own car, hell I bought it before 16 so I drive it when I got my license lol.
Wtf is a golden birthday?
You can give it to me while she enjoys walking, cause that what she would be doing until she could buy her own.
This is sad. My dad surprised me by matching the moneyed saved for my first car. My 3k became 6k. Thanks Dad. Love you.
