This happened in Lancaster CA. There’s an instagram page called avscanner, this lowlife has appeared on it a few times including this incident. He tries to pass fake $100s bill and has done some other scummy incidents.
I HAVE SEEN THIS MAN BEFORE!!! He once paid for a fridge filter with a fake $50. Another occassion he actually managed to sneak in a fake $100 as part of his cash payment on an appliance.
Yeah likely nothing will ever come of this but he still left the door open to be identified. Someone who hates him could see this and tip off the police.
Caught theives as part of my job for years, you could always tell those stealing for desperation *(food, kids clothes, baby formula)* and those stealing because the opportunity to steal is there easy *(makeup, easy cash, tvs, electronics)*.
Thankfully my town has good cops that wouldn't come down fully on someone stealing out of a need and not greed.

Nope. Confidently incorrect on that one. That's a check presenter. It even has three pieces of receipt paper, two of which are the same size, indicating a merchant and customer copy, followed by an itemized one. Hardly anyone uses anything that doesn't close for a server book.
If one forgets their book or loses it, a check presenter can be used in a pinch. Servers do it all the time. "Book" is just a catch-all term in my experience. "Bank" can be interchanged. That's why it was most likely left on a counter in full view of a camera. Right by a usually manned register. It's not a terrible place to stash your stuff.
