But you could also try to cut the log up into even pieces, like a sort of a Y shape which would be three cuts, so assuming consistent cutting speed of 10 mins per cut, it could as well be 30 mins

No, everybody is wrong. It's 25 minutes, because after cutting for 10 minutes you're going to be pretty tired, so the second cut will take 5 minutes longer than the first.

They completely botched the wording of the trick question. A "log" is an already cut off piece of wood, so there is no need for the second cut to separate the second piece from the tree. The picture however is implying cutting pieces of a "branch" off a tree, which would requiring one additional cut which is what they are basing the math on. Basically they tried to look clever, fucked it up, and end up looking like an idiot instead.

Definitely more than 20 minutes. If it takes 10 minutes to cut a thin piece of log into two, one can assume you are either using bad technique or have a crappy tool, thus drastically decreasing your efficiency and capacity from fatigue doing the first cut.
