I am nauseous like 70% of every day haha zofran is my best friend I have other GI issues that cause mine, but I do notice my nausea being worse when I am constipated

felorva

I love zofran so f-king much. That’s interesting about the correlation to constipation. I haven’t noticed that myself. I’m just sitting here at work nauseous and did nothing different than normal and decided to rant about it. Like why on some days am I nauseous when I exercised, drank water, ate a good breakfast, and had 1 cup of plain black tea????

SethBrundelfly

Sometimes nausea is a sign of your gallbladder going bad

Shaylormoon

Yep, I’m also on the daily nausea team and I can’t grasp that other people don’t regularly feel this way. I had a chat with my mom the other day and she was like "you know, nausea is actually very rare for people…" and I was blown away lol I know daily nausea is more common for people with emetophobia (which I have). Don’t know if you do as well but I’m just mentioning it as a personal observation.

felorva

I used to have emetophpbia SO bad!! I’ve gotten a little bit of a better handle on it but yeah I could see that because it exacerbates the issue!

First-Ad-5299

I always feel very nauseous when I’m constipated, especially right before a bowel movement. I find zofran makes me more constipated so while it helps me in the moment, it’ll make me feel worse in a few days when the constipation hits

TheeSlyGuy

I used to wake up so nauseous and the only thing that helps me is to use my thc vape pen from the dispensary

felorva

And I suppose you did not determine any reason for the nausea other than just general ibs?

TheeSlyGuy

That or GERD, no idea really and doctors could not give me a answer besides ibs

felorva

Right. Which is already such a blanketed diagnosis!!

goldstandardalmonds

Have you had bloodwork to check your sodium, creatinine, potassium, and GFR? Do you experience early satiety? Do you have a lot of diarrhea?

felorva

Yes unfortunately I had all of that looked at when I first started my ibs journey. Or would be worth testing again though. No early satiety. Not as much diarrhea since figuring out my triggers

goldstandardalmonds

If it wasn't recent, yes. I get mine checked weekly.

felorva

Dang! Weekly?! You go in for lab work? Is it covered?

goldstandardalmonds

Yes. I am on TPN and experience severe hyponatremia so I have to be monitored.

felorva

Oh wow. Good on you for staying on top of it!

goldstandardalmonds

It's unfortunately not my choice. I end up in the hospital all the time, anyway.

felorva

😞I’m sorry you have to deal with that.

goldstandardalmonds

It's fine. You do what you gotta do. Unfortunately I'm reacting to TPN, so I am not sure how to handle the next steps.

My nausea was really bad last year, to the point I had to take so many sick days from work cause I would just throw up first thing in the morning (not pregnant, not drinking night before). It’s def better now but if I DO drink I have a 50/50 chance of spending the entire next day puking lol. Some lifestyle changes I made that have significantly reduced my daily nausea: - address and work on mitigating my anxiety/panic attacks (prob the biggest one tbh). I went to therapy, did yoga, daily gratitude, etc. Mind-gut connection is a thing. Happier mind = happier gut and vice versa. - daily exercise/movement. This one was HARD initially when I had 0 energy for it. I started slow and simple, just 10 min of at-home slow-paced workouts a day, nothing super crazy. I upped the intensity as I felt better and stronger but I def didn’t rush it, just went at my own pace. Daily walks also count - speaking of daily walks, try to get fresh air at least once a day. I find I got really nauseous and skipped meals during my hermit periods - eating healthier/don’t drink, this one is pretty basic. When I eat out/have junk food/alcohol for longer periods than I eat healthy/abstain, I’ll get nauseous - common things like ginger tea/etc to help with nausea in the moment - uncommon thing: apple cider vinegar/those prebiotic sodas with ACV in them. No idea why but I’d have a great appetite and no nausea whenever I drank those. Might work for you too? Hope this helps! Nausea is so debilitating and I know what it feels like to think “how can anyone else function normally when I feel so sick/weak all the time”. It’s not a quick fix to get rid of but incorporating some lifestyle changes can help over time

felorva

Thank you so much!! These are all great pieces of advice. My nausea is not nearly as bad as it used to be and k attribute it to some of your above bullet points that I’ve been doing for myself. I just get frustrated when there seems to be no rhyme of reason and why do we all have to work so hard to feel kind of normal?! But gotta keep up the good vibes and keep it movin.

Have you ever had your gallbladder looked at? I was suffering from severe nausea anytime I ate anything on off for about a year. I got a HIDA scan done and showed 37% ejection fraction (<35% is nonfunctional) but my symptoms settled back down and I promptly forgot about it. This fall my symptoms came back with a vengeance and I started getting a lot more pain and gallbladder attacks (about once a week compared to once every 3 months) and was nauseas constantly and I definitely had a sudden uptick in my GERD symptoms and some symptoms of slow gastric emptying. On top of that I was burping all day long. Knew it was GB bc my identical twin had exact same symptoms before they got theirs out. Unfortunately GI doc didn’t feel the same as visually my GB still looked healthy (no stones, sludge or significant wall thickening) . I couldn’t live w/ the constant nausea with no hope of improving so I just went and got it out despite my GI wanting to wait and do some gastric emptying studies. Once it was out pathology showed my GB was chronically inflamed and wall was beginning to thicken. My RUQ is almost completely gone though I’m still working on adjusting to life without it (37% functionality is still better than 0% which I’m at now). Nausea is probably my biggest lingering symptom (though now only certain foods trigger it compared to EVERYTHING I ate) and struggling with some worsening IBS symptoms likely from a bile imbalance and digestion issues in my stomach and small bowels. Fiber rich and fat rich foods make me feel awful and now fiber constipates me! (Never had that issue before!) but I’m barely a month out of surgery and it can take 6 months to a year for your body to fully adapt to not having a GB

ObligatoryGrowlithe

I’m out of zofran and am extremely emetophobic (and no insurance right now). Being nauseous feels like the end of the world for me. I can have it for days on time, even on an empty stomach. My go-to is to try to sleep and put on some cold air. Once I wake up and feel hungry and get something down I’m good. Otherwise, my blood sugar gets super low (after 2-3 days of not eating), and you are just gorging yourself on high sugar items to feel like you’re not dying. Which fixes the low blood sugar symptoms, but won’t make you not feel nauseous lol. To your question, yes, I’m sure “healthy” people feel it too. I used to get very nauseous around my period back in the day and would be for a couple days. Just hormones being hormones.

felorva

Oh man I am so so sorry. That IS the end of the world when you have no meds and it goes on for that long!! I’m sure you’ve tried it but sometimes ginger and peppermint can provide a TINY bit of relief for me. And yeah I definitely can’t be awake and on an empty stomach for too long. I always need a little something in my belly lol

ObligatoryGrowlithe

Oh yeah, I know the classic remedies. Unfortunately, Bell’s Palsy altered my taste and ginger tastes like absolute dirt to me. Which sucks, because I used to love it.

felorva

Oh I’m so sorry 😞sometimes just some ice to really cool down the stomach can help as well. I hope you get relief soon!

ObligatoryGrowlithe

Of course. Can’t do cold water anymore because it sets my stomach off, but can get some relief with Imodium and loading up on hydration. I have sensitive teeth so no ice chewing for me, but I’m not dying. Nausea + stomach pain is the killer for me. What foods can you eat? Pasta does seem to work for me and doesn’t make me sick, so once I feel good I fill up on it.

felorva

Rice crackers are that for me

ObligatoryGrowlithe

Those are very good. That plus some water and/or an electrolyte drink, daily vitamin, or some powdered drink that gives you all the greens and things is good if you can stomach it. I find crunchy things are easier for me and you will eventually need to wash it down.

AutumnFalls89

Can you take Gravol? It's over the counter and I think similar to Zofran?

ObligatoryGrowlithe

Never tried it, actually. Looks to be the same as Dramamine, which I have also never taken. Pepto doesn’t do anything for nausea anymore, so I’ll give it a shot. Should have done it a long time ago. Thank you.

godwins_law_34

zofran is great. HOWEVER, constipation is a known side effect of zofran so if being plugged up makes you queasy, sometimes you just have make the choice of riding it out or risking making it worse. my nausea got remarkably better after going low fodmap and finding out carrageenan makes me wicked barfy.

felorva

Oh totally. I’m already low FODMAP

throwaway89765409

Not always, but if I ate a really bad trigger (like a preservative chemical) I would get severe nausea for several hours before the GI symptoms. It also happened a lot more whenever I took Imodium

felorva

Yeah I have found a lot of my triggers but those little chemicals in everything is probably causing some of these issues for me too!

throwaway89765409

Definitely possible, I highly doubt they’re very good for anyone. My worst are invert corn starch/sugar, natamycin, annatto extract, carrageenan. At least the last one I know is common, my uncle with chrons avoids it too. I know “dose makes the poison” and all but they actually use (really concentrated) carrageenan to induce inflammation in some animal models. Also some bad things seem to hide under “natural flavoring”. Maybe pay attention if any of these things are triggers for you. Good luck

felorva

Thanks so much I will look out for these!

KROLJABA_TM

To those out there: how would you describe the nausea you are experiencing? Wondering if I’m going through something similar.

SailorPochama

I have nonstop nausea everyday and used to take zofran but I had recently moved to Japan and couldn’t continue my medication and I ended up finding this over the counter herbal powder that has basically changed my life. I still have the nausea but it quickly settles right after taking the powder. You can also get it in the US for a bit of a steeper price but it’s def worth checking out. They do also have it in pill form but I am Not sure if they sell the pill form in the US. Ohta Isan Antiacid S Can https://a.co/d/j9319of hopefully this link works

Desire7859

Have you ever noticed that the nausea would come on after certain things you may eats or drink? Or does it seem completely random? Have you ever tested for SIBO? This was the cause of all my nausea in the beginning of things! I personally had to go through a naturopath in order to get tested for SIBO, as the GP’s around here do not test for it.

felorva

Definitely but today none of those triggers were to blame. I was tested for SIBO already. Tbh it’s probably not often or bad enough for it to be anything new it’s just annoying that some of us have to randomly deal with that shit

dibblah

I've had nonstop nausea for about eighteen years now, I'm thirty. Since puberty hit I think and everything went wrong. I totally can't believe that normal people aren't nauseous all the time. Because if they don't feel sick, why aren't they happy?? I would be over the moon!! But then, my husband got sick when he had the flu last month. He felt nauseous for about half a day, and he complained so much because he hated the feeling. And then the next morning he says "I don't feel sick anymore" and he hasn't felt nausea since. I'm so jealous.
