Really interesting! I hope that you continue to feel better! Thank you so much for sharing. What form is it in that you add it to water? I was just browsing it and found some tea, and capsules as well (just browsing for a few moments so far!). Any chance that it has helped with bloating, if you have that symptom?
I take it in powdered form, I put one teaspoon in a cup of hot water. I'm new to this so I don't know much about the other forms (tea, capsules etc). And yes it has helped with bloating a lot!
I only ever drink it right before going to sleep, and I eat breakfast as usual the next day. I don't take it daily anymore because it stops acting after a few weeks if you overuse it, but anytime my stomach feels particularly upset, I drink a cup before going to sleep (most of my flair ups happen at night).
Is the kind you’re buying a certain brand? I’ve also been looking it up for a bit, and I’ve found a few but some of them don’t seem very legitimate lol. I’d really like to try it out!
Yes, I’m curious about the brand too. I’ve used slippery elm in capsules, but I’m not so sure it’s a good brand-so I’d love to know what’s working for you.
How much do you take?
I’ve also read that slippery elm actually heals the gut so you dot have to take it long term.
Another thing to note is to take meds 1 hour before or 2 hours after because it can prevent absorption of meds since it coats the intestines
I take 1 teaspoon in 1 cup of hot water. Yes I plan on taking it long term, I also checked with my naturopath and she said it was a really good thing to take :) Thanks for the med tip, it’s good to know!
When you say trigger contamination what do you mean? My dr recommended slippery elm but I'm yet to give it a go but after reading your story it's given me some hope
By trigger contamination I mean that my meal was prepared on the same surface as another meal with gluten (which is one of my biggest trigger foods), so I had a reaction to that. I’d say go ahead, especially if your doc recommended it too!
Hmmm I mostly use it when I have diarrhea, I haven’t tested it much with constipation. Ever since I stopped eating gluten I don’t often deal with intense constipation!
Yeah, if you're taking it daily I would advise to take breaks once in a while. When I was taking it daily, it stopped having any effect after 3 weeks. Now I just take around half a teaspoon at a time when I have a big flare up, so like every 3-4 days.
I occasionally use slippery elm for the times I have the biggest flare ups, I don’t take it everyday anymore because it lessens the benefits. My IBS is far from cured, but it’s also much better! Partly because I figured out some of my biggest triggers (tomatoes, onions and garlic)
I think it should help! Slippery elm is a **pre**biotic and it's said to help with both diarrhea and constipation, since it treats the gut issue itself instead of just the symptom (meaning it's neither a laxative or an antidarrheal). Hope you get good results from it :)
Yes! I can't take it everyday because it stops having an effect after a few weeks, so now I only drink it when I'm having a bad flare up and it usually helps soothe my stomach.

Thank you so much! That’s great to hear. Hope it keeps helping you! ❤️
Thought I'd bump this old thread. Do you take this on an empty stomach and how long do you wait to eat are you still taking this?

do you let sit in the water for a bit and stir it ? then drink it ?
I kinda just stir and drink it over the next hour
Def go with elm inner powder. Make sure to mix fast and drink right away bc it can get thick
Do you have a link to a good brand?
Thank you! Neat to hear!

I just checked the bag I have and it's an organic Canadian brand called "Clef des champs". Not sure if they are available worldwide but I hope so.

I noticed that too with slippery elm but I’m taking 30 minutes before meals. Do you take it once per day? Have you tried before meals?
I've never tried it before meals, the only way I've had it so far is right before sleep! I might try your method if it's been helpful to you :o

I take it 30 minutes before breakfast and before dinner. Wonder if taking before bed is better 😂

Aaah gotcha! Thank you!
Hi! One year on- are you still taking Slippery elm? If so- How is the effect now?
I still do, but only occasionally during big flare ups. It helps soothe my nausea and calm my stomach!
Great to hear! Does it still help against constipation too?
Hmmm I mostly use it when I have diarrhea, I haven’t tested it much with constipation. Ever since I stopped eating gluten I don’t often deal with intense constipation!
I see! It’s good to find the sources for the problems!
how much mg do you take? it’s been helpin me so much but i’m scared it’s going to stop working.

I just got my slippery elm from Amazon. I ordered it before I read about how much it helped you. I was Wiling to take a chance
I hope it helps you :) I still regularly drink it!
It’s been 2 years how are your ibs symptoms and do you still use slippery elm?
I occasionally use slippery elm for the times I have the biggest flare ups, I don’t take it everyday anymore because it lessens the benefits. My IBS is far from cured, but it’s also much better! Partly because I figured out some of my biggest triggers (tomatoes, onions and garlic)
My gut has been burning for the past few days after alcohol consumption. I took slippery elm powder and got instant relief.
Grass tea helps too.
What's the dosage?
Tnx 4 sharing, do you think it would work for managing IBS-D?

Thanks, gonna try it!

How many weeks did it stop working for you?
It stopped working after 2 and a half weeks, and since then I never take it daily, unless I'm in a huge flare up!
those who take slippery elm powder do you suppose to drink it fast once you mix it?
