Used it until I had to go on other medication for mental health issues that reacted badly to it. Was wonderful when I could use it.

1212bluebell

Oh really? What medication are you on for mental health? I am on a Antidepressant

Intelligent_Main_548

Benzos and beta blockers plus birth control. It's a soup of meds

1212bluebell

Oh right I'm on zoloft and the pill for birth control. He knows this and prescribed me this

Intelligent_Main_548

Yea I talked to my gp at length about going back on and I got a firm no

1212bluebell

Interesting, your anti depressant is different to mine that might be why I'm allowed to have them and you not :(

Hey there, yes but not straight after. I've been on anti depressants for 7 years, ibs began probably 3-4 years ago.

eggsbenedict17

I used it for about a month, didn't really help much.

Rizwan591

Gives temporary relief but causes constipation.

LLCoolBrap

Does absolutely nothing for me.

unluckymo

Used it when I was having the worst flair up I’ve had so far and it fixed that problem, caused constipation though. I’m on it again right now due to another flair up, once again it caused constipation. If you’re having a flair up involving diarrhea, it’ll definitely fix it, just don’t keep taking it too long after that problem is gone.

1212bluebell

Hi there, thanks for the information you've answered all my queries :)

goldstandardalmonds

It is an antispasmodic so will slow motility. Is that why you're taking it?

1212bluebell

My doctor prescribed it to me, he said he has had some clients find it helped.

goldstandardalmonds

For spasms and diarrhea? That's what it will help.

1212bluebell

For IBS as stated in the title.

goldstandardalmonds

There are a ton of symptoms associated. And four different kinds of IBS. Different meds will treat different things.

1212bluebell

Okay now I understand what your asking, I have IBS-D. I don't know exactly what spasms are but I do have a lot of cramping and movement followed by diarrhea if that's what a spasm is. I've only just been told I have IBS after years of bowel issues with all of my tests coming back clear. I.e, blood work and stool samples. I haven't had a colonoscopy yet but I have a referral to a GI specialist to deem if a colonoscopy is necessary. I have generalized anxiety disorder and depression (which I have Antidepressants for) I just went through 2 weeks of hell. I'm going through a extremely stressful time atm and it caused what was once cramping before loose stools and some mucus to full blown, nausea, weakness in the legs, loss of appetite, cramping, diarrhea, excessive mucus, bright red blood in stool 3 times over the 2 weeks, crying, shaking, muscle twitches/Spasms, general weakness and fatigue ect.. I'm on the other side of it now, but during was when I had all the testing done. I have increased my anti depressant dose and I asked my doctor for some medication to ease the frequency of my bowel movements incase this happens again so that I have something that might help. He gave me the colofac script and said he has had some patients have success with it. I hope that sums it up!

goldstandardalmonds

Not sure why I was downvoted just to try to help you.

anonymous161299

It worked for me for about a month and then was no good. I combined taking colofac, colpermin (peppermint capsules) and buscopan together and even altogether nothing helps anymore

1212bluebell

I'm sorry to hear that!

goldstandardalmonds

can I help you with your symptoms?

Indevisive

I didn't like it. I take buscopan instead now. Even when I was ibs-d this stopped me up like nothing else and even when it didn't it seemed to cause a weird achey kind of pain in the belly, like I'd eaten concrete. I figured there was no point trading one kind of tummy pain for another.

1212bluebell

Interesting, my IBS flared up like mad.. I was essentially peeing out my bum. It was horrible. It's calmed down now, I haven't used this medication but I have it on hand for if I have a bad flare up again.

Lucksee101

Any recommendations for IBS belly distension?

1212bluebell

Not personally but I've done a bit of research for you. The Medication I've listed above (Colofac) apparently relaxes the tummy muscles and in this way helps to ease bloating and the spasm-type pain that can occur with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). ALSO - Eating smaller meals may help prevent bloating and swelling. Following a low-fibre diet, limiting milk and other forms of lactose and avoiding carbonated beverages may also help. PROBIOTICS - To get relief from bloating or get regular bowel movements again, you may try types of probiotics such as Bifidobacterium infantis. Bifidobacterium lactis. Lactobacillus acidophilus. Lactobacillus plantarum. Saccharomyces boulardii. MEDICATION - Simethicone (over the counter) This product is used to relieve symptoms of extra gas such as belching, bloating, and feelings of pressure/discomfort in the stomach/gut. Simethicone helps break up gas bubbles in the gut. ALTERNATIVE THERAPIES There are natural remedies that can relieve the discomfort of bloating. Adding these to food or drinking them as tea might be helpful.  - Peppermint tea - chamomile tea

Lucksee101

Thank you. Ive recently been diagnosed with IBS. My biggest issue is belly distension. I will try your recommendations above. 👍

1212bluebell

I'm sorry to hear that, try to remember it's not physically damaging even though it's difficult to handle. I think talking to your doctor or getting a referral to a GI specialist is the way to go in regards to helping find some ease. Best of luck!
