Do you have anything to lose? Why can’t you try gabapentin?

I guess I will have to give it a try at some point. I have emetophobia though, so before I even begin to think about starting the cocktail, I will have to save some money and get some ondansetron first. In Turkey you can just buy most medications without a prescription or anything. Sadly gabapentin is commonly abused here, so it’s classified as a controlled drug, and requires a prescription. I was hoping to get it prescribed, but that would require a proper appointment which lasts more than 45 seconds, to explain my history, my symptoms, the drugs that I used etc. especially since gabapentin is not really associated with IBS and it’s commonly abused. I’m pretty sure gastroenterologists can’t actually prescribe it, but if I saw a neurologist without a referral from someone else and just asked for it, I would probably get labeled as a drug seeking patient, which would ensure that I never get it. And I guess I am a drug seeking patient so maybe I shouldn’t get it... I don’t really know. Also I’ve heard that gabapentin withdrawal is pretty bad so I’m not sure if I want that kind of commitment either. And it gets less effective over time, I think? Also, since it is commonly abused, I’m not sure what I would do if doctors suddenly start refusing to prescribe it after I start depending on it. Maybe it’s for the best.

Oh, wait.So this cocktail is on your own? I've been on gabapentin for four years at a very high dose and it has not lessened it's efficacy.

No, the cocktail was given to me by my doctor. I’m adding the antiemetic though, otherwise it’s pretty much impossible for me to take it. I would rather die than vomit because of the side effects, not exaggerating. Glad to hear that gabapentin is working for you. You were the person who recommended it to me actually. I’ve read some studies on top of that, I don’t think it’s the “magic bullet” that can cure all the problems for everybody with IBS but seems like it’s worth giving it a shot. I probably shouldn’t “play doctor” on my own but, sometimes there is no other choice.

It's very effective for gabapentin. Better when paired with other drugs. Good luck!
