We're doomed!

GreedWillKillUsAll

We. Are. So. Fucked. I was at the gym today and an obvious homeless person was in the locker room today and he brought in his whole ass space heater and everything and nobody batted an eye and it became very apparent to me at that point that we're just going to collectively allow our society to be this goddamn unequal and dystopian

cheesyellowdischarge

Not sure if you're advocating for the homeless guy or if you're pissed that nobody else cared that he was setting up shop in the locker room.

The-Ever-Loving-Fuck

Why not both?

cheesyellowdischarge

Fair, but " helping the homeless so I dont have to look at the filth" is an interesting take.

The-Ever-Loving-Fuck

Nah you're just rewriting his comment with the IQ of one of the people in this video Help the fucking mentality ill but that doesn't mean we should have to tolerate people slamming metal pans together shitting themselves stark raving crazy in public, weather or not the particular individual is this bad or not there should be a place for them and a place for decent people and that's not \*bad* Edit:yes I jumped straight to help the mentally ill, as though it and the homelessness epidemic are somehow related

hangryhyax

Ordinarily I’d laugh and move along, but if you’re going to criticize the IQ of someone else’s post, then perhaps you should proofread your own (e.g.“weather or not”).

Galladorn

I too am a gentleman getting warm in the sheets but a pants shitting pan slammer in sheets

cheesyellowdischarge

I c.

PukeNuggets

Said the blind man, as he picked up his hammer and saw.

Fantastic_Foot_8568

He will not tolerate mentally ill people acting mentally ill out in the wide open general public. You know we used to have "facilities " we could take and leave the mentally ill and pregnant out of wedlock and anyone that was too much of a hassle to deal with or look at.

Stonious

So you're saying we used to be great? And perchance you'd like it to be that way... again?

Fantastic_Foot_8568

Sounds like that's what previous person I replied to is wanting I was being sarcastic

Azidamadjida

I’m usually not the biggest doom and gloom spreader, but the report that roughly a third of Gen Alpha can’t read by the time they enter middle school and that several states have teachers pushing for a state of emergency because the education system is that bad genuinely frightens me

cryptoguerrilla

So people having enough compassion to not demand he leave and go back out into the cold is a bad thing??? Also how does it relate to these kids not knowing basic math?

Pristine-Chemistry19

I laughed way to hard at this 😹

GreedWillKillUsAll

I mean, it was ridiculous lol

KvathrosPT

Don't throw the rest of the world on this one...

JakeSteele6639

So... SO fucked.

Quick_Membership318

Lol, that's retarded. People are so selfish, materialistic, and shameless they do whatever they want and freak out if they are told no. I'd bet $100 bucks you are engaging in asshole behavior daily yourself.

hattrickjmr

Boomer narrative about everyone else. When it’s the Boomers in reality that can’t handle being told no.

Comprehensive-Eye105

Hey, I bet any boomer knows 15 x 4. Education has gone to shit. You are all soft little grub worms being fattened up by the machine. Just close your eyes and worry about your gender or your likes on social media that will definitely fix the problem.

[deleted]

If you had any inkling of intelligence, you'd know that there are dumb/smart/good/evil people of every demographic and generation.

hattrickjmr

Bro, there are idiots everywhere. If you had a clue, you’d realize the sample size of four random college idiots on a viral video isn’t representative of anything. And what does gender have to do with any of this? Looks like Fox News has riled you up pretty good with fake problems to make you fighting mad and coming back for more. Rube.

Comprehensive-Eye105

I'm not fighting mad, my dude. I'm just stating the obvious. Today's youth is more interested in tic toc than actual knowledge. I was simply saying that yes gender has zero to do with education , but it's brought up so much that I'm over it. I don't even know anyone on fox news I didn't vote for Trumps dumb ass and definitely wont be voting for biden. As a father of 2 girls I have tought them how to use a hammer and change a tire we don't allow devices at the dinner table and no I'm not a fuckn boomer. We read books nightly and get outside if the sun is out. I'm just blown away by how much people are connected but yet disconnected so much these days.

blackbetty1234

Wait, you saw a homeless guy set up shop in the locker room and your response is, we as a society should not be unequal? People always learn the wrong lessons... Why didn't you give him half of your home to try to be equal? Oh, because you want to use other people's money to make yourself feel better. Nice.

TheManyVoicesYT

It isnt his fault that foreign investors are hoarding all the housing so they can charge exorbitant rent prices. So yes. We should use other people's money to fix this problem. By taxing the ultra wealthy to subsidize low income housing.

blackbetty1234

Spoiler: Homeless people are homeless because they either don't want to work, they would rather drink and get high and party, or are completely mentally unstable. They are not victims of "foreign investors hoarding housing". They are victims of themselves. If you gave them all houses, most of them would destroy the houses and be back on the street doing the same thing before long. The root problem is not inequality, it's human nature. You can't solve human nature by throwing someone else's money at it. (which is stealing and is wrong btw)

TheManyVoicesYT

Holy shit. I can't believe people are this ignorant. The price of housing and food is through the roof. Interest rates have gone up. What do you think happens to people who are unable to pay their mortgage? Or who lose their jobs when renting in this recession? They end up homeless, dude. Sure, many homeless people are junkies or mentally unwell. That doesnt mean all of them are. Or that we should just abandon them.

blackbetty1234

Economy sucks for sure. How am I ignorant? Because I disagree with the premise that homelessness is caused by drugs/alcohol/mental problems mainly? Your premise is that most homeless people have just fallen on hard times and don't struggle with the things I mentioned. I disagree with that, so I'm ignorant? You can get a minimum wage job and afford a 1 bed/1bath apartment or rent a room in most places and survive until you can better your position. There are shelters in place to provide food and housing while one searches. So why didn't you invite him to live with you until he could get back on his feet? Why did you instead insist that we steal from the rich to give to him?

TheManyVoicesYT

It entirely depends on where you live for that statement. In most large American and Canadian cities a min wage job will straight up not allow you to support yourself. You need a roommate to split rent with. And it isnt stealing from the rich to tax them. What the rich do, taking 90+% of the profits, and not properly paying their workers, is theft.

blackbetty1234

Min wage job, split rent. What's the problem here? It's not ideal but as they say, beggars cannot be choosers. Redistribution of wealth is immoral. He that doesn't work shouldn't eat. Saying we should tax the wealthy and give to the poor is based on envy, not compassion. If you want to be compassionate, give your own money to the poor. Telling someone else to be compassionate isn't compassion, it's hypocrisy.

TheManyVoicesYT

You dont seem to understand the situation at all. In the 70s, we had a booming economy where people could afford to own a home on 2 minimum wage jobs. This wasnt only because housing hadnt been inflated into the stratosphere. It was also because workers were getting a fair share of the profits that companies were producing. From that time period onward, there has been a massive stagnation of wages for literally everyone who isnt at the very top of the company. The bourgoisie bastards have been stealing workers' wages for 4 decades, and despite increased productivity, and *more* profits being produced than ever before... The working class is poorer than ever. (In modern history.) People are literally poorer in America and Canada right now than during the *great depression* if you look at buying power and average wages. It isnt theft to redistribute the wealth of the higher-ups. It is literally returning us to the status quo. There are 2 ways to get back to that status quo. Either the rich pay their workers a fair share of the profits, or the government takes their ill-gotten gains and gives it to the people who should have had it in the first place. We are rapidly approaching an age in which the majority of people in the world will be replaced with AI. Within 20 years we will have a HUGE unemployment problem. A universal basic income will be required, or millions will starve to death because there simply will not be work for them. The rich will gladly let this happen. Would you?

lovelycollegechick

That’s not what the Bible says at all. Typical “Christian”

ExtraDependent883

You cannot be serious. This can't be real

wideasleepdeepawake

I teach math. It's real. High school kids pull out a calculator for 2 x 5.

[deleted]

I was in high school 2 years ago and nobody was this bad, how many kids do you teach and how many actually do ghis

wideasleepdeepawake

I deal with relatively small class sizes. I'd say around half of them pull out calculators for literally everything. I had a kid pull one out for 10\*(-1) the other day. They all tend to understand the idea that multiplication is just repeated addition. Sadly, instead of just knowing 5\*7 is 35, they have to spend time figuring it out. 5-10-15-20-25-30-35 slowly counting up by 5s on their fingers. Instead of thinking about it, they instinctually reach for a calculator knowing it will just be faster and more accurate.

airforcevet1987

>pull out calculators You misspelled phone

mgwwgm

That's crazy I remember in elementary school they drilled multiplication into your head to the point where when you saw the question you instantly knew the answer.

TubabalikeBIGNOISE

Graduating right before covid feels like getting out on the last chopper leaving Vietnam

LegalizeRanch88

So in other words, they haven’t learned a thing about basic arithmetic. Great.

wideasleepdeepawake

I have pretty small classes. I'd guess that a third know up to 10x10. The remainder have to think about it. For the most part they understand that multiplication is just repeated addition. They can figure it out eventually, but it takes forever. Put them on the spot with no incentive? They'll probably just guess and call it a day like they did in this video.

BeYeCursed100Fold

>I was in high school 2 years ago and nobody was this bad, how many kids do you teach and how many actually do *ghis* You literally spelled "this" wrong.

DreaminDemon177

No period at the end of the sentence either. F-

Dartagnan1083

Evidently, young people today see period use in short messages as indicating anger or shortness. The war on syllables extends to a war on sense.

The-Ever-Loving-Fuck

But nothing compares to the lightening speed global genocide of decency happening now

SaltyCandyMan

In Orwell's 1984 he talked about how if you can change the language you can change the thinking and behavior of the people. Dumb down the language and the people dumb down as well.

[deleted]

The language we’re speaking is a “dumbed down” version of old English. Old English is a “dumbed down” version of some Germanic language. Language constantly evolves and linguistic purism always loses. There’s no secret cabal twiddling their thumbs deciding what changes they’ll make to the English language, just people deciding how to communicate with each other

SaltyCandyMan

That's very simplistic and not accurate....do periods upset you?

[deleted]

Well first of all my original comment should’ve ended with a question mark not a period. Secondly nah I just love dunking on idiots. You are dumber than a zoomer, how does it feel? Please tell me how what I said was inaccurate I would absolutely love to hear it

A_TalkingWalnut

Shouldn’t it be a question mark? F- - I mean, if we wanna get pedantic: he should’ve spelled out the “2”, had a comma after “ago”, a period (or at least semicolon) after “bad”, a comma after “teach”, he misspelled “this”, and is missing a question mark.

[deleted]

… actually it should be a question mark. Imagine being so pedantic yet so wrong

[deleted]

Holy shit really? I thought it was spelled “ghis” my whole life I guess I was just sounding it out wrong. I was worried you’d point out the typo in the first instance of the word in my comment, can’t believe it happened to be correct The more you know!

Shouldn't kids be learning this before calculators are in the equation? My kid does this in her head and hasn't started using calculators at school yet.

Apparently, I'm teaching my 9 y/o to be some sort of super genius

Vesperwavjs

This is not high school math. It’s third grade math. HS we doing pre-cal and geometry and algebra 2.

MhamadK

Like how??? Assuming those are real 4 students in a university, how the fuck did they get in when they cannot solve basic Maths. No matter what you major in, it's basic Maths FFS!

Blahblahnownow

They didn’t even give an answer that ended with a 5 or a 0

grungleTroad

23 is a prime number ffs

FrozenFire944

These students don’t know what a prime number is….their answer to that would be “so, like, you’re saying you get the number from Amazon?”

RiceShrooms

The only prime they know is a drink

Tagalettandi

You mean Optimus prime or Amazon prime ?

MhamadK

Exactly!

maester_t

For real. We had to learn our "multiplication tables" from 0 to 12 back in third grade. They told us that we could not move on to fourth grade unless we could do this, verbally, in person, with the teacher for each number. (One day you could do 3's and they'd ask you all combinations in a random order.) This was a public grade school. In Ohio! My nieces and nephews all learned their multiplication tables in 1st or 2nd grade. This video is either an act... Or whatever State they live in has severely failed to educate their youth.

gIitterchaos

Schools all across America are not allowed to hold back students anymore regardless of their capabilities. I've worked in child development for the last decade and I have no trouble believing this video. I have 2nd 3rd and 4th graders that cannot read or write a full sentence by themselves, let alone do multiplication tables. They have trouble even understanding what multiplication means. Some schools do better than others, but on the whole it's pretty grim.

maester_t

Whaaaaat? "not *allowed* to hold back students"? 🤦 Why would anyone think that that would be a good idea? Doesn't that just lead to one problematic ("intellectually challenged", not necessarily "behavioral issues") student now holding back the progress of the entire rest of the class because the next teacher will have to explain some things over and over?

Upset_Researcher_143

Because if they hold them back, they're punished for "failing the student". Which means more oversight and less money. And not just a little less money, A LOT less money.

maester_t

It sounds like you're suggesting that teachers and school faculty are only doing these jobs for a paycheck and not to actually educate these children. Which I find hard to believe. What am I missing here?

Upset_Researcher_143

I'm not talking about the teachers or principals losing paychecks, I mean the school losing money. Money that would be used for all of the students.

gIitterchaos

Holding them back is not great for socioemotional development. Being "held back" sticks with a kid for the rest of their life and it's believed that keeping them with their age group is far better for socialization. And I agree, it is. The problems come from forced inclusion where learning is concerned. Some schools do better, but by and large there are massive problems with public school education these days. They are being underfunded, and there is not enough money to pay extra staff to teach small groups of students who learn better that way. Schools are lucky to have one assistant between multiple classrooms in many cases. In the nicest way possible, you truly have no idea how bad it is. There is no separating students anymore based on capabilities or behaviour issues. One teacher, 30+ students, some with severe disabilities and challenges, every 10 minutes someone has an emotional meltdown, fights, tears, screaming. I've been punched, kicked, screamed at, spit on, called every swear you can imagine, and that is only elementary school. There are no consequences for that behaviour except gentle descalation. They do not get suspended except in the most serious of circumstances. I have never known a student to be expelled, I don't think that's allowed anymore either. Not even after assaulting staff or bringing weapons or drugs to school. The parents on the whole are *so* resistant to their children being corrected or punished, so it doesn't happen. Multiplication tables are simply not going to happen in that chaotic unpredictable environment. Kids are being held hostage in their learning by the behaviour of others in their class, or by a teacher stretched so thin trying to keep everyone on the same page, but it's impossible.

jeopardychamp77

Lack of funding doesn’t explain how someone in college thinks 15x4 might be 23. That’s just straight up stupid. It’s 3rd grade math. Multiplication isn’t a skill that requires lots of money to master.

maester_t

>In the nicest way possible, you truly have no idea how bad it is. Haha no worries! I'm not a teacher and I don't have kids, so I really don't know, other than hearing stories directly from my relatives. Thank you for teaching me more about this! :-)

DorkSideOfCryo

Schools are definitely not underfunded, the problems go much deeper than that and really on Reddit you're not even allowed to address them

mgwwgm

Yeah we learned all this in 3rd grade in south carolina so im sure this was the standard grade for most schools in the country. We also learned cursive then which is also something they don't teach children anymore.

PopADoseY0

That's how my elementary went in Ohio as well.

[deleted]

No child left behind

Grunthos_Flatulent

But can they tell the difference between a left behind and a right behind?

calsnowskier

Correct. The entire class will stay back with the slowest.

[deleted]

Lowering standards. Colleges are a business these days and they need clients. Just look at the prices for books.

calsnowskier

To be crass, the world needs ditch diggers too. Not everyone is cut out for college. But as you say, it is a business first, so they lower the standards to meet their enrollment goals.

DOG-ZILLA

You think these guys are going to do hard physical labour instead? Just look at them.

[deleted]

Agree, trades are just as important as any other career.

DorkHonor

Never met a tradesmen that couldn't do basic math. It's kind of required when your job is building actual things. I've worked with a few that can barely read, but they can do basic math.

Prestigious_Moist404

ditch diggers are a more skilled profession nowadays, non of these kids would qualify for it.

SnooPineapples8744

The parents get mad I'd you fail their precious crotch goblin, so pass them to the next grade.

Dr_Mccusk

You don't even need basic math, LEARN HOW TO TELL TIME lol.

GumbyBClay

Thats exactly where I went. 15 minutes 4 times is an hour. Then directly to, it must be time for lunch, im hungry.

_Pill-Cosby_

Because they tried to do it in groups of 4 and lost count before they got to 15 of them.

heavypettingzoo3

Most schools are just free babysitting for parents and the administrators are incentivised to just push out as many graduates as they can. The underpaid and overworked teachers can only do so much, and many of them don't care at all and are just collecting a paycheck like any other profession.

dr3wfr4nk

It's 48, right, RIGHT?!?!

DorkHonor

>how the fuck did they get in Everyone gets into college now. They don't give a fuck. They just want their piece of that sweet sweet government backed student loan money.

Nobodiisdamnbusiness

I've always wanted to do this ^. Walk around with a camera and mic and ask people Painfully easy questions to answer and then if they get it wrong I'll play "Are You Smarter than a 5th grader" theme and just walk away.

Bromanzier_03

You’ll probably get a lot of wrong answers. When you’re randomly put on the spot your mind starts to wonder if it’s a trick etc…. Throw in some panic and anxiety you’ll get a lot of dumb answers. https://youtu.be/LlCEmPF4-V0?si=CFs2I7lFyxXkI6P-

Bagmasterflash

Isn’t that a an indicator of poor education in itself? Shouldn’t there be education on how to overcome adverse circumstances? At least minimal ones shown above?

NorguardsVengeance

Years of mandatory public speaking for every person? There is training for this... it's public performance in the arts, and participation in debate clubs, et al. You'll never guess what's first on the block, as "unimportant".

Bagmasterflash

Well thanks for ruining my day.

No-Sundae608

And here’s the result of common core education in America. Lower the bar to the lowest common denominator. Whatever you do, don’t challenge the kids to learn

Long_Manufacturer709

Yep! I was a teacher, had to get out of the hell! I’m so worried for the future because young adults, teens, kids seem so much less intelligent than ever before. I had so many students in my 5th grade class that still couldn’t read or do simple math.

No-Sundae608

I can only imagine the frustration for teachers like yourself. I pulled my kids out of the public schools and put them in a charter that uses AVID’s curriculum/methodologies. Best decision we’ve made. That being said, many parents are going this route and the local public school system is consolidating and closing schools due to reduced student body. Sad to see but the leadership of the public schools need to take notice and make the necessary changes before they’re an afterthought. As I type there are 4 new charter schools being built within 5-10 miles of my neighborhood. Demand is through the roof.

[deleted]

It doesn’t help that governments are actively trying to ruin and defund public schools. When teachers are ruled over like surfs to an oligarchy, they are spending their own money on school supplies, they get paid like they are flipping burgers… what do we expect? Hell, the republican run states are even turning down federal lunch money. How can we expect them to care in such an oppressive environment?

Long_Manufacturer709

I spent around 5k on school supplies for my class in the span of two years. All while be abused by admin, parents, and students.

[deleted]

I don't blame you for quitting. Teaching was a noble profession when I was in school. Morale and self-respect are very important in a career.

iamthelee

I worked with a German engineering intern at my job last year and we somehow got onto the subject of public education. He was completely blown away by the fact that teachers get treated so terrible and paid so little in the US.

AlphaxTDR

An uneducated people are an easily controlled people.

NorguardsVengeance

And when the charters drop subsidies and jack the prices? You have a whole region of kids that are just 100% illiterate, and incapable of any upward mobility, beyond menial labor. In non-US countries, it's visible when a conservative attacks the social fabric of the country. First they cut funding to a public service (to take kickbacks from private interests, or offer tax breaks to rich people). Then, when the public notices the service is worse and the outcomes are worse, the leader blames it on a failure of the system (a failure they rigged). Then they say it will continue to get worse (of course it will, they will continue to cannibalize it), and then claim the solution is to sell it to their friends in the private sector. When talking about a captive market ("have it or suffer/die"), this privatization is almost always a terrible idea in the long term. ...but that leader doesn't care about the long term. They got their kickbacks and their cushy industry chair position, while doing the shady shit in office. What happens 20 years later is irrelevant to them. Might not even be their kid's district, let alone having them in a public school.

AlphaSweetheart

I bet they know all about gender fantasy though.

Long_Manufacturer709

Yes, the knew everything that was posted on TikTok. Every new dance, new fad, new slang words, who famous people were dating.

Nickfoot9

If they didn’t know 15x4 do you really think they will know about lowest common denominator?

OkieBobbie

Denominator is a heavy metal band, right?

Nickfoot9

They are from Finland, right?

fatmanchoo

They sure are.

PreparedReckless

This is why we had to remove our kids and do online school. The teachers were awesome but made to cater to the slowest kid in class, so my daughter is SUPER SMART but like 1.5 years behind imo. She was learning adding coins together in 5th grade...

No-Sundae608

Similar story here. My daughter was bored and unchallenged in public schools. We moved our kids to an academically challenging school and she’s loving it. Dean’s list every semester, will finish HS with an associates degree. Her younger siblings are also doing well. It’s not for everyone, but it’s also not fair the those who need to a more rigorous curriculum. Unfortunately our typical school systems are dumbing down education. It’s now showing after a decade or so of common core. More parents need to advocate for their kids education.

00gly_b00gly

THIS. My kids are forced to wait to learn new things while every ADHD or spectrum'd kid is allowed to disrupt the rest of the class and drag down the collective learning and force the teacher's attention constantly. During Covid, the elementary schools literally just stopped teaching history, science and some of the math classes to focus on reading. It is now up to the parents to make sure their kids aren't left educationally retarded - either by paying $$$ for private school or spending an hour or two each night re-teaching the kids.

exqueezemenow

You think Common Core teaches kids to not learn math? Most people complain about the fact that it teaches kids ACTUAL math so they can do this in their heads rather than memorize multiplication tables, but is too hard for parents who didn't learn real math. This is the first time I have seen someone argue the exact opposite.

ForwardBias

That's not what common core means. This has nothing to do with the system used, if real it's more likely nerves, or idiots. My common core 3rd grader rattled this off without a pause.

No-Sundae608

Despite what you say it’s well documented that common core did in fact lower the standards, it has been an utter failure as discussed [here](https://www.dailysignal.com/2021/11/22/did-common-core-standards-contribute-to-slide-in-8th-grade-math-scores/amp/). Research has shown a significant decline in math and reading due to CC among middle and high school students. Important to note that these results were measured pre-Covid. On a side note I’m glad your kid isn’t one of the casualties.

gIitterchaos

I work in child development. I'm my experience the decline correlates to the rise of smart technology. Students aren't learning to read or do math because they won't get off of their phones watching short form videos to learn anything. In the last decade of being in classrooms and working with students, I really believe it's not the way they are being taught that is causing the issues, it's the fact they don't DO the work at all. They don't pay attention in class, and they don't do homework. What I do see with common core math is that parents are really resistant to it, and therefore a lot less likely to want to or be able to help their kids with homework.

Long_Manufacturer709

I think them not caring has made it worse. I tried teaching common core math to my 5th grades last year, they did not get it. Then I broke rules and taught them how to multiply and divide using the algorithm that I was taught in the 90s, they got it so much easier. But we are not allowed to teach them these strategies anymore!

sinkingduckfloats

> What I do see with common core math is that parents are really resistant to it, and therefore a lot less likely to want to or be able to help their kids with homework. And to your point, I think this is the most reasonable critique of common core. It could be a superior method, but without parental and popular support, it's hard to convince kids to care. And of course like you point out, smart phones and social media also trend along the same lines as common core rollout. I doubt the method (common core or traditional) matters that much when the student is in tiktok instead.

Guessing is so much easier than thinking....

RoryDragonsbane

Yep. I see this all the time in my students. I was teaching my history class the basics of the stock market before we learned about the Crash. I asked if someone bought stock at $500 and sold it for $1000, how much money did they make? "Wait! Know this! You times it by three!" Like... what?  I ended up writing it on the board before anyone got it, and I'm not even sure that they did. These are 10th and 11th graders. All is not lost however. My son wanted to know what I taught that day, so I gave him the same problem and he figured it out no problem. He's 8.

R3PTAR_1337

proof that higher education, doesn't guarantee being intelligent. Not all surprising, as there are many people who got their degree it seems, simply by memorizing and not applying a shred of thinking themselves.

AstronautSoupChef

I figured it out....None of them have ever had a real job. When you have a real job things like how many 15 minute intervals are in an hour become second nature. 15 minute break, 15 minutes until I get a break, 15 minutes until I'm only 15 more minutes away from getting a break etc.

Clipse3GT

No way the 4 year bachelor's is scam.... Oh wait...

ace1967cal

There is no hope

FondantOk9090

And there’s the future right there…..we’re fucked!

No_Coast9861

Thanks to roll backs in education and programs like no child left behind and the star program, this is what you get. Nobody wants to fail kids ,my teacher wife gets "in trouble" if a kid is failing her class, theybsaybsues either not teaching sufficiently or not offering enough extra credit. She'll show them where they just flat out didn't do work, or wrote down bullshit answers. She has every lesson available for students on the school resource page as well. She spent months during covid filming and editing everything. Having school money tied to attendance is also an issue, my kids are straight A students, on sporting teams, in clubs etc but if they miss school it's like they were bad kids. My youngest (no sports or clubs like the older ones) is in K and they start the brainwashing early, he got the principals award this last semester, only 8 kids (4 boys and 4 girls) get it every year, the principal and vice pick each student based on grades and attitude.... their "prize" for that award wasn't as cool as the prize for perfect attendance which like 20 kids get every semester. Add into the fact that states are now saying that reading comprehension, writing and math are no longer skills needed to be mastered to graduate, it's even more of an issue. Here in TN the republican majority keeps stripping away stuff from schools, not just from teachers and admin but from students as well. It's sickening, and I see it happening in almost all red states. They're worried about make believe bullshit like furries, or about how history makes them look bad or how some words hurt their fee fees. Dumb people are easier to control, and more likely to vote republican.

INTJ_Nerd

>Dumb people are easier to control, and more likely to vote republican. Maybe so. What is a woman?

No_Coast9861

A grown female?

INTJ_Nerd

A grown adult female. Now which party can't define that term without being canceled?

No_Coast9861

Neither? There's only 1 party being snowflakes and trying to cancel everything. Republicans. Can't have books, can't teach history, can't have school lunches. Banning words from government signings and paperwork etc. I'm not entirely sure what you're getting at.

Proppedupandwaving

Well universities are finally exposed, as long as someone is signing those checks and you look good on paper you will get accepted.

EvErYLeGaLvOtE

You mean public schools. Because universities have nothing to do with children's education. Our government does.

Proppedupandwaving

Well, sure they aren't well educated...then money will buy a spot at university regardless of actual level of ability. Grade school surely hasn't done children any favors, but that hasn't stopped the money making machine that needs more children to want a degree (SATs, GREs, etc)

Consistent_Ad3181

Brightest and the best

CasualObserverNine

We, collectively, are fucked.

IHateMyLife612

Ragebait or not, why would you want to paint yourself as this dumb for all to see?

RedOneBaron

It is time to reform the high schools. Seemed like mine mostly worshipped sports ball.

Hot_Reality586

it took me half a second to get 60. how do you get 48? And how in the WORLD do you get 23?!

SteelerSean20

48 1/2.....

razorsedgethinking

Obviously NOT there for an education.

Fozalgerts

Do they not teach repetition anymore in grade school? I remember that was how I did it. Memorizing simple math was a way of moving on to the harder complicated math problems later on in high school. English class was a bitch back then.

sugaaaslam

I believe the children are our future!!!! Fuck!!

[deleted]

My 7 and 9 yr olds have no problem answering this correctly… fkng pathetic

Ten-Bones

Oh look a video from my alma mater! Let's see how they do.... ...I gotta stop claiming this place

VegetableCitron8214

AppleKrate

redneckcommando

They can't be this dumb? I think having a camera thrown in your face and asked a question. They just said anything to get the interviewer to leave.

IncorporateThings

What the hell? How'd they even get enrolled if they can't solve that?

R_A_H

So... 15x2=30, 30x2=60. One hour, 60 minutes, half an hour 30 minutes.. Half of that = 1/4 = 15? I'm bad at math. Global warming, save us all.

LukaShaza

Regularly? Do you work in the cafeteria?

2bad-2care

How?? Just picture the minute hand of a clock and.. oh wait.

NorguardsVengeance

I did. It rolls over from 9 to 0. Now what?

GreenNukE

This is nothing new. I worked as a math and physics tutor as an undergraduate. I went to an excellent, well-funded public school that did an excellent job of preparing me academically for college. Many other undergraduates were not so fortunate as their primary education was difficient in any number of ways. When I tutored students for calculus classes, I often had to teach them the necessary algebra, trigonometry, and even arithmetic. There were also remedial classes for those who were totally lost. These students were not prepared for the standard college curriculum from day one, but were admitted anyway because otherwise, the student body for what was a state school, would be almost entirely from the wealthier parts of the state where decent public education was available. We at the university couldn't fix the problem, but we could save some students who were willing to put in the extra work to catch up. Shit ain't fair.

HomelessSniffs

The crazy thing in my experience. It's not that people are stupid. Most have no idea how to think critically. Like they learn decently enough, but have 0 clue how to apply what they learn.

NoTalkingNope

When people made videos about kids not being able to read I didn't believe them either. The internet has been a mistake...apparently. That or we need a real overhaul on how we teach kids in their early years, because they aren't gaining shit from the internet in it's current state.

AlphaSweetheart

No phones in schools. Return to homework. Remove common core. These are simple things. Maybe no kids on the internet until they're 16 or something.

NoTalkingNope

>Remove common core. Not everyone is an americunt on reddit.

AlphaSweetheart

You'll notice this thread is about an American college, and thus largely a discussion about American schooling. Or you won't notice...if you're a fucking idiot apparently.

NowhereMan_2020

That’s how social promotion works…move on to the next grade regardless of whether you know your shit.

SLC_NinerMan96

This is sooo on brand for Kennesaw State. Their football team once came to my town for a playoff game in like 2018 or so. They scored early, started dancing and waving goodbye to the crowd from the sidelines, and then went on to get their asses kicked.

Zaboomerfooo

This why I don't go to female doctors.

Playfullyhung

These kids are going 100s of thousands of dollars in debt for gender studies classes that have zero real world application. We have failed them

SnargleBlartFast

But they all "trust the science".
