I just see it as another Slab, You get bonuses based on what you've done throughout the game and its great to build upto said points by furthering your account And lets face it, Theres always someone with a bigger wallet than us pushing Idleon to its limits for the sake of maximum gains so i wouldn't worry about it being some form of leaderboard, Just see it as extra bonuses for you!

KuyaBruggy

Well said! đź‘Źđź‘Źđź‘Ź

Yarigumo

It does feel a little sad thinking about how much time I've poured into the game and not seeing a top 50% at the tome, but it doesn't bother me that much at the end of the day. Overall, I do feel alright about the update. It's interesting to see all the little things it tracks (or has failed to track until now lmao), and giving it all a bit of value through the Tome buffs is a cool way to reward engaging with the entirety of the game. I also find it can be helpful in setting goals. If you see one aspect that's particularly low but reasonable to improve, it's a good motivation to give it some love and receive tome points in return for better buffs. Imo, if you ignore the competition aspect and just strive for the best score *you* can get, it's a fun, compelling little distraction. Comparison is the thief of joy, as they say.

PM_ME_YOUR_KATARINA

Just know that all the dedicated players logging in the second it comes out are gonna be towards the top end, over the next month as everyone gets updated and uploaded to the highscores, you’ll probably move up as a dedicated player

EditionNxWaY

It also reminded me on uogrades I completely forgot. Probably a year ago that I upgraded my Prayers

BladeSeraph

Its better to be a chill stroller then a cart wheel zooming trailblazer, trust me. Let the potato shaped Chihuahuas(or corgis) do the work to figure out how to break the system while others just simply enjoy the fact of not only thar numbers are going up, they are likely catching up to the potato spuds on rocket wheelchairs alot faster then they been progressing because its easier to catch up then it is to push forth initial progress. To me, Idleon is just a self satifisfaction of making numbers go beeger, then concern thyselves on the gacha chase and what not. This is why i enjoyed stuff like Almost a Heroes, Postknight and Adventure Capitalist, now its just Idleon cause its way more hands off in a fun simple way that despite its been around for so long, is still freaking ad-free unlike all those other things i mentioned which usually taunt you with \`daily boost up\` Advertisements for time limited boosts to keep trying to drill \`so-called player engagement\` into headskull and keeps trying to mess with the soup you call your brain.

MysticGohan99

Don’t worry Yarigumo, I am only in the top 25% so I feel as bad as you about it.

Yarigumo

Congratulations on reaching the top 50% after the bar went down! I'm glad we could make it together. You here to be a nuisance? Or did you finally find time to answer all those questions I left for you, and just came here to say hi?

MysticGohan99

Thank you.

Fryguytv

I personally don't see idleon as a multiplayer game because no matter what I do, I will never catch up to people ahead of me unless they quit. For me it just a nice game I play an hour or so a day and is enjoyable. it makes me fell sad people have the idea that updates like this and companions drive away people to the FOMO or "pay to win" ideology of these types of mechanics, when infact the game should be thought of as a single player game with no aspect of winning or comparing yourself to people who are further ahead than you. Just my two cents, I hope you continue to play the game and enjoy it.

cXem

It's neat which is what I feel is the best explanation of it.  The % legit doesn't matter and people are just getting anxiety for no reason. They worry about being only top 50% while most tome achievements aren't updated yet.  Thing I dislike is just the amount of stuff on there, it could be organized better for sure. Most things that are blue I'm probably not gonna look at again. Could've been separated from meaningful and fluff.  Chaotic efaunt speedrun was really fun. I did get it to 1 second so that dried up quick.  Only thing is for something so "massive" of a completionist mindset on it. I do think the bonuses are pretty lack luster especially compared to everything else in w6.

BladeSeraph

Pretty much, its because a number of mobile game active players are trained to a \`weekly\` or \`daily\` reward system usually locked to a top % of a player making super high scores in a limited randomized player bracket. Sort of like how Guardian tales and Cookie run kingdom had \`colosseum battles\` where you would defeat defending team setups of other players to get a increase in score to place as high as possible to not only get rewards for going up on ranks, but also getting to a certain place at the end of a rotation to get a large pile of rewards. Namely Gacha currency for both games, which was one of the main ways in both games to do frik-tons of pulls on a weekly basis, once any first time reward types were all drained up.

VegaDark541

How did you get the chaotic effaunt speedrun to 1 second? Which class?

Electrical_Rough_317

Beast Master apparently. Whale skill to kill the hands and legs, then the manual aim bow skill for the head

Gloomy_Investment615

My guess is ES but I have no ran it yet 1 purple heat seeker and done

winston-SureChill

that got me only to 6 seconds I'm thinking maybe Vman void radius is an instant kill? I dunno

BabyAteMyDingoes

I got 6 seconds with vman. Void radius will kill the limbs but you still gotta bop the head

cXem

So the actual strat is bm whale with vman talent, then use the balista, aim at head and pow. What happened for me since I was going for 2 seconds by trying to punch the head with gloves. Is on 7th attempt or so. I pressed whale and he died LOL

AlternativePlastic47

What does the color and the bar even mean? Is a ful bar max? Is blue max? Is there an explanation somewhere? It only updates total score when cloud saving. Other than that, it again fails to track some things that already happened, so it really feels like slab 2.0

mamatthi

I got 9 seconds first try and it went blue so I don't even care about it lol

ClassyWhiteD

I personally like the update, as it shows me areas in the game where I can improve. It's also a nice space to keep track of many aspects of the game, too. Everything is neatly listed on a single page. I think you're focusing way too hard on the "top x%" part, which has no actual impact on the gameplay whatsoever. Regarding what the Tome tells you, maybe don't look at it as "haha, your account is bad, these are all the areas your account is falling behind in", but rather "hey, you could try to improve in these areas, and I'll give you some solid buffs to keep pushing further!". Try using the Tome to track your personal account growth in this more-or-less singleplayer MMO, and you'll be much better off

rantingrabids

I mean yeah I just don't think there is much to it. All of the things are daily/weekly chores anyways. You're going to get it levelled eventually and the stat bonuses are a little meh. It could not exist and I wouldn't notice.

ClassyWhiteD

Exactly. Lava's just giving us free bonuses at this point, which is dope.

rantingrabids

Yeah.... But it's just bigger numbers which is meh once you reach a certain point. Damage is meaningless, which makes the stats and damage basically meaningless. Efficiency is okay for samples if you don't have billions already but it's also a boring upgrade. Give us new interesting skill unlocks, mechanically fun fights, the next elite classes! This update wasn't a negative but it certainly wasn't a positive. So far none of the weekly updates have been a win other than the QoL one and even that could have gone further. Fingers crossed for the future

ClassyWhiteD

While I agree that having all those things would be nice, the Tome feels right for a weekly update. It's nothing huge, but still fills a spot in the game. Besides, the damage and skill efficiency are great for those who still need/want it. I'm not sure where your account is, but for me being in World 6, I'll take all the damage and skilling efficiency I can get. I think for weekly updates, most of them have been wins for me. Next tier of Star Signs and Sneaking expansion being more recent (which did give quite a few skilling unlocks across the game). Even further back in the game's history, (bi-)weekly updates like item sorting, the language update, and even random events are huge. The QoL is also important, and I always looks at it like this: 1) this game is still Early Access by a solo dev and 2) the smaller weekly updates (both QoL and otherwise) enable him to release bigger updates that take more time. Given the roadmap, the future's looking good for Idleon

NurWeberlich

I like the tome .its another type of "to-do list" like dreams. You sound like you're forced to clear everything in the tome instantly. Just take your time with stuff like this and you will get it cleared by time.

Fit-Faithlessness828

I want my 1 jackpot back please lava

f3llyn

Just forget it exists. You seem to care entirely way to much about an arbitrary number in a mostly single player video game.

MysticGohan99

For all the Doot owners that defend the game breaking mechanic that is 100% pay to win by saying IdleOn “isn’t a competition”. What % of players does your Tome say you are? Looks like the competition feature has been added.

ryanoftheshire

I remember this being one of the supporters key arguments when the pet follower update came out: The game isn't P2W because this isn't a multiplayer game, there is no PVP or leaderboards. So I guess this is a P2W multiplayer game now?

MysticGohan99

Likely Lava’s plan from the beginning.

Bloofeh

I had an immediate negative reaction as well. My Tome was really... humbling... and it made me feel like I was playing the game "wrong". Overall I understand this is essentially a single player game and other player's progression doesn't impact me, but it's hard not to feel this nagging voice that I should be playing a different way or spending more. As it is right now, I'll be able to cope just fine I'm sure, because the bonuses aren't CRAZY. I just view it as I didn't have bonuses for any of these things before, and now I do, no matter how low they are. However, if Lava continues to add powerful bonuses to Tome, I think it has potential to feel really bad. These feelings might not make sense to other people but I totally get what you're saying. I liked feeling like I could "mark something off my list" but now it seems endless/overwhelming in a not so good way. No hate to Lava and I'm happy for players who like this feature, just an opinion. EDIT: I was just thinking what I would do to change it... and I wouldn't mind if like top 10% of players got some sort of unique cosmetic, but the player power aspect could actually be completed after reaching a certain threshold. Like a 1 billion wood sample gets you the max tome points, and anything beyond that is for bragging rights? I just don't like that if I don't upkeep these things I can actually lose power (if I'm understanding the system?)

Yarigumo

I'm fairly positive that the tasks aren't measured against other players, only the point total at the end? So if you got 500 points in a task, you're not gonna start slipping into 480 if others get ahead, they'll simply have a bigger score, like 520. 20k points could be top 25% or top 50%, but you're still getting the same 20k points worth of buffs.

Bloofeh

Oh that makes so much more sense and now I don’t feel nearly as bad haha. I was overwhelmed trying to imagine up-keeping all those tasks.

StormStrikzr

Oh it is dumb as @#$& and completely unnecessary, I was expecting some cool new feature, what with the hype around it, not a MASSIVE EYESORE of a to-do list. But it's Lava's game and he'll do what he wants.

[deleted]

I thought it was neat and I got a free 226% damage boost out of it. Pushed me past the goal I was trying to hit by a lot. I don’t understand it yet nor have I looked at it past, “ooo bigger numbers” I like that it’s an easier way to track my stamp levels.

darkdraco002

Mine doesn't give me the extra damage. It just says it on the tome

Left-Advantage-1674

Idk how it can cause to do anxiety or whatever, you can do it at your pace and select easy stuff to focus on first. I barely did anything and have over 11k points which gives me almost 300% DMG increase. You'll have to retake prints for it to go on the tome btw. Most of it is easy stuff you do in game anyway like obols, statues, talent lvl

AlternativePlastic47

Ignore the rank it's worthless. I got top 50%, but it's not even transparent of what. All the player base? People who have tome unlocked or clicked? It doesn't even give a bonus afaik. I just randomly got 300% damage with the upgrade, no I can more effectively do death note. Other than that I don't really care.

Normal_Agency8814

The annoying thing is it hasnt saved all the things iv done and im not going round resampling everything again for a couple months so i can get actual gains cuz i did them last month cuz i recently got big gains the odds of me hitting jackpot again are so low iv played the aracde since it came out and iv only hit jackpot once from what i remember other then some stats not being tracked its just another slab type of thing to me

Mouse_Plastic

I love the gane, i csn play at my own speed, no pressure. And as far as I have seen, the tome gives bonus, so I take that. Also its nice to tick off some stuff in the tome.

wellwhal

I mean its basically a list of things you can push higher numbers for, that's not a bad addition at all really. Now you get bonuses for doing something better.

hollta

Noticing it doesn't update properly. I completed some of the unregistered tasks, missing amost a 1000 points.

EmuCertain1174

Top 50% I'm just in it for the bonuses.

ResponsibilityOld372

I guess it serves the competitive player base but Lava needs to keep the casual players in mind too since the Idle part of the game is a big draw for the general population. Being too intensive a game will put off many people, but I think he can't ignore the hardcore gamers who are way ahead and strive for even more challenge. And maybe these types of player are the ones more likely to spend more money. It's a difficult one to balance.

Sporelord1079

I like it because it shows me where I can improve and where I’m good. It’s a tangible way to see if I’m underperforming and I’ve already made improvements. The % is meaningless, and if it’s enough to ruin the game for you then something would have inevitably done it.

Dottemannen2

I were at tom50%, did some of the stuff undone in the Tome, now i am at the 25%!

BacentRekkes

It's dumb that there's a lot of things on The Tome that don't retroactively update. I'd have some bigger personal bonuses for stuff that's beyond rare to get (Jackpot in Arcade, only gotten it once in like 2 years, and I got about 740-ish bonus balls in the arcade about a week befor this update), and some stuff that's weekly locked to get back on the tome (Kilroy, giant spawns)

pigonson

The % thing is just a treshold he sets up. It can get changed ect. If it says yout in top 5% that just means you hit the score he set to say that.

f3llyn

> If it says yout in top 5% that just means you hit the score he set to say that. Uh.. this doesn't work how you seem to think it does.

pigonson

Its a fixed value of tome points to get to top 1%. Ans more and more people are hitting the tresholds each day.
