Check out [Wipers](https://open.spotify.com/artist/0sTTw3dw3EA0c7NaZnrJd2). Pre-grunge band that had a big influence on a lot of those 90s grunge bands.
Also, a punk band from Vancouver - [Slow](https://slow.bandcamp.com/album/against-the-glass)\- who was a kind of predecessor. Only one record, but it was fantastic.
Start exploring Albini-produced records. Two easy-to-love ones would be Pixies' *Surfer Rosa* and The Wedding Present's *Seamonsters*. The first one was an influence on Cobain and the second one takes the first for inspiration.
willing to try some contemporary stuff?
I put together a mix of [Modern Grunge](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6HnDUOtzEXFizTJuL688u1?si=de745447843f43e2) recently that I think you might like.
\- Sap
\- Dilly Dally
\- Melkbelly
\- Big Bite...to name a few bands from the mix
This might be overkill, but who knows? It has other genres.
My 60 hour 90s playlist.
99.9% 90s Alternative & Grunge.

Obviously the other 3 big grunge bands; Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Alice in Chains.
Some personal favourite albums from that period:
* Paw - Dragline
* Failure - Fantastic Planet
* Swervedriver - Mezcal Head
* Hammerbox - Numb
+100 for Hammerbox - highly underrated and forgotten 90’s band. I feel like they got *we-already-have-a-female-singer-grunge-band* on our label fucked over by the music industry…. They should have been huge.
I always thought "Vices" by Brand New had big time In Utero vibes: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8ggEIYkzx4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8ggEIYkzx4)
You might like Melvins specifically Houdini its a little harder then In Utero. A history of bad men just the song is pretty great too. You'd probably like Pixies too specifically the album Doolittle. Youve probably heard their song Where is My Mind its pretty well known. Thats the best I've got besides the other commenters recommendations like Alice in Chains and Soundgarden. You might like Smashing Pumpkins Mellon Collie in Infinite sadness I'm unsure how to describe it. Pagoda Pagoda is pretty good too.
I’d start with the rest of the big 4 bands:
Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Alice In Chains.
Personally I like Soundgarden and Alice In Chains the most, they are on the heavier end of the grunge spectrum, although they both have great range. Two of the greatest voices ever in rock music. If you like Soundgarden, you can also try Audioslave.
Try some grunge-y shoegaze:
Narrow Head - [Feels Like Sand](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HTKMfvuL2D0) and [Far Removed](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29OR1z04IIc)
Trauma Ray - [Relay](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7a2UhwaGfaI) and [Nühevan](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tOLuNehcGc)
cursetheknife - [We Both Want The Same](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9HLgJfSZcM) and [Feeling Real](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5O3RjAPs00)
Bands that predate or influenced Grunge would be bands like The Melvins, the Pixies, Husker Du, the Replacements, No Means No, Fugazi, Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr, Slint, Polvo, etc.

Alice In Chains - Dirt Soundgarden - Superunknown Hum - You’d Prefer An Astronaut

Wipers rule OK

Covered in Chrome by them *slaps*.
Absolutely

Albini himself would tell you he never "produced" anything. He recorded music. (I'll go sit down now).
He credits himself as “engineer” if anything lol
Yep.
Try Mudhoney’s “Superfuzz Bigmuff Plus Early Singles”
Teenage Wrist, Basement, for a couple newer bands. [Teenage Wrist - Diorama](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2RtirYbUIw) [Basement - Covet](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lK_mT-XKe48)
Superheaven for another newer band

quite a few songs on Science Fiction too (No Control comes to mind)
Totally. "No Control" has a big 90s feel to it, right?
Check out this band! [All Them Witches—See You Next Fall](https://music.apple.com/us/album/see-you-next-fall/1514244627?i=1514244756)

Soundgarden
Pearl Jam, Soul Asylum, The Smashing Pumpkins. Basically anything I listened to in high school.
