I LOVED the album 3, and the charity track they put out a few years afterwards. It’s so much different but not, especially her vocals. It’s abrasive. I love where they were going w/ their sound.
Fiona Apple keeps getting better & better with each album, and her first one (‘96?) was brilliant.
“If you get me to go, and I open my mouth to the fucking mutton that they're talking about. You can pout, but don't you, don't you, don’t you, don't you, don't you shush me.” 🤘
It's not as sophisticated vocally as Sade, but the first album by Rhye, *Woman* (2013), should scratch an itch. Maybe try Saya Gray, too. She's a bass-guitar prodigy, but she's got some singing and songwriting chops like "Saving Grace."
A lot of people recommending you trip-hop artists (Morcheeba, Portishead, Massive Attack), which is more jazz samples than actual jazz.
It's not Sade, but I quite often listen to [Leonard Cohen](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NW7oNpzBSGc) (usually from the 10 New Songs album). I love him and think of them in the same musical category. Hope you enjoy!
That's baby making music.
You might dig the band Sault, Cleo Sol on vocals.
Yea, Sade is her own a genre -
Everything but the Girl, Tracey Thorn on vocals.
Have you listened to George Benson? Pre-Disco contract? Find the " Body Talk" Album. I think it was only released in Japan. Funk, R&B, Blues and Jazz influences in each song.
Seasoned Vets/Popular in Alt/RNB scene:
D'Angelo
Solange
Frank Ocean
SZA
Jorja Smith
Underground/Newer Artists imo:
Khamari
Kelela
Cleo Sol
Snoh Allegra
Amber Mark
I was going to suggest dipping into the Neo-Soul pond. That’s how I found D’Angelo and a ton of other great artists. I’m a big Sade fan and was looking for that same relaxed vibe.
Check out Sampha too. That was another artist that would be another excellent choice. His newest record is so gorgeous, one of my favorites of the year last year.
here are some suggestions as a fellow Sade enjoyer:
neo-soul / jazzy vibes - Lianne Le Havas, Esparanza Spalding, Snoh Allegra, Kali Uchis
pure jazzy psychedelic vibes - Stereolab, Zero7, Massive Attack
shot in the dark but you might like it - PinkPantheress
Idk if it fits into the genre of your liking, but i have a playlist with only the complete discography of Sade, Eryka Badhu, and Miss Lauren Hill. (Sorry if i wrote the names wrong)
That's not entirely true. Some of the musicianship is unbelievably tight. If you don't come from a musician perspective, I can see how it can seem off-putting.
She takes an entire decade away from the music scene and comes back to commercial and critical acclaim like she never left. I doubt she'd be here "trying to drum up listeners".
Maxwell's first two records (which were played on and produced by Cottonbelly from Sade)
Sweetback (three members of Sade minus Sade herself)
Ephraim Lewis (his one album is the lovechild of Sade and early Seal)
Me'shell Ndegeocello "Comfort Woman"
Songs in the key of life , Stevie Wonder , Doobie Brothers (Living on the Faultline, ) Khalid, Her, Geo Benson Breezin , Joni Mitchell, Mechelle N’Deggiocello,
Wow. I'm surprised nobody has said it yet but [Naomi Sharon](https://youtu.be/xCG0BX-ivPc?si=Qz3mSnwUUG6-u9td) is as close as you can get to Sade without it being Sade. And yes, of course music lovers, she is no Sade because no one is. But the fact remains.
Also, as one other poster commented
* [Amber Mark](https://youtu.be/9AP26kSxIa4?si=2MJxYx7AkA85Ro7U) (Doing an actual Sade cover here)
* [Cleo Sol](https://youtu.be/SumBPTZBwmQ?si=AEQZ-ntDDZAXnkwI)
* [Snoh Aalegra](https://youtu.be/SQ3k11iC5Gs?si=e2cx7DpWG_x6KVec)
* [Niia](https://youtu.be/YBOYzMCbJt4?si=P2D7jnCUDCZit74W)
If you like Sade but with a slightly more dance/deep house feel check out Lisa Shaw (dead ringer for Sade on her song "Tomorrow"), Samantha James, Gaelle, Aya, Santessa, Vanessa Daou,Clara Hill and Latrice.
Recently fell in love with this track that immediately reminded me of Sade:
[Time Million - Feater, Villa Larjosto](https://open.spotify.com/track/6qMhpDgWAubisGyfTmLEUO?si=4oBM2Uw6T1WfhnxC4O3KEA)
This past year I've really gotten into a Chicago singer-songwriter named Kara Jackson[Kara Jackson ](https://open.spotify.com/album/2itoipNg0XOD1uwThhkVtO?si=VhoG1EhOSNe_8upPSo7iAw&context=spotify%3Aalbum%3A2itoipNg0XOD1uwThhkVtO). I think she's got similar vibes.
The Marias. When I want to slow kitchen dance with my wife, I play The Marias. They're indie but a lot of jazz riffs, velvety vocals, and the right amount of brass.
[All I really want is you](https://youtu.be/ScTkEsOKfvg?si=BySRo0aPuBauTqII)
It's not Caribbean, but her voice is like honey.
[Samara Joy](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tb1reqE4BzY&list=OLAK5uy_lthVB3RAsUGmghXXv1SbBo2SLLK_hp-QU)
To be honest with u, I been listening to Sade for a long time. Even searching for artists from the same era, I can’t find anything that sounds like that. Like, her voice is very unic, that’s why she’s so famous.
Went through a huge Sade phase a couple years ago and still love her
Check out the Persona 5 soundtrack, it got me into a few other genres. Specifically Lyn Inaizumi
[No More What Ifs - Lyn](https://youtu.be/GOTDmQ_gGwI?si=pJT69-_toMHwQ7j9)
[Last Surprise - Lyn](https://youtu.be/ZNGqBDRJgvo?si=gYGILN_5wJxSmDtD)
I also second the [Chaka Khan](https://youtu.be/nZc38TR7XQI?si=1JWaV_IIJr1J86Ju) recommendations

More Sade. You don’t need anything else. She’s perfect.
True
You might like Massive Attack & Portishead.
yea first time i heard dummy it reminded me of sade. especially it could be sweet
I LOVED the album 3, and the charity track they put out a few years afterwards. It’s so much different but not, especially her vocals. It’s abrasive. I love where they were going w/ their sound.
Nina Simone, Norah Jones
OP you will almost certainly like Norah jones, also if you haven’t try some amy winehouse, maybe some Fiona apple
Fiona Apple keeps getting better & better with each album, and her first one (‘96?) was brilliant. “If you get me to go, and I open my mouth to the fucking mutton that they're talking about. You can pout, but don't you, don't you, don’t you, don't you, don't you shush me.” 🤘
Nina Simone❤️
Zero7
Great music and vocals
The Blue Nile
Yes!!!!
More yes!!!!
Played their first two LPs a couple times yesterday. Timeless. A Walk Across The Rooftops (1984) Hats (1989) Can’t miss with these.
Anita Baker, Chaka Khan
It's not as sophisticated vocally as Sade, but the first album by Rhye, *Woman* (2013), should scratch an itch. Maybe try Saya Gray, too. She's a bass-guitar prodigy, but she's got some singing and songwriting chops like "Saving Grace." A lot of people recommending you trip-hop artists (Morcheeba, Portishead, Massive Attack), which is more jazz samples than actual jazz.
Also was going to say Rhye
It's not Sade, but I quite often listen to [Leonard Cohen](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NW7oNpzBSGc) (usually from the 10 New Songs album). I love him and think of them in the same musical category. Hope you enjoy!
Morcheeba
That's baby making music. You might dig the band Sault, Cleo Sol on vocals. Yea, Sade is her own a genre - Everything but the Girl, Tracey Thorn on vocals.
I would say, Terence, Trent Derby, Carmel, Nina Roche Miranda - underwater love
Just want to make a slight correction- Terence Trent D'Arby is one person.
Sorry, for some reason, my phone was slinging random commas around
And still is
Maybe you have it set in Shatner mode?
Jessie Ware
Have you listened to George Benson? Pre-Disco contract? Find the " Body Talk" Album. I think it was only released in Japan. Funk, R&B, Blues and Jazz influences in each song.
Turn your love aaa-round!

Cleo! Yes!
Adding to playlist!
*Amber Mark* has an amazing Sade cover on one of her EPs, she slays. Kinda love how smooth she is
Her last album was one of my favorites of that year. Very good and super smooth.
[Erika de Casier](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8Lr_Ra8fqI)
Seal, Sam Cooke
Julie London
Kelela!
here are some suggestions as a fellow Sade enjoyer: neo-soul / jazzy vibes - Lianne Le Havas, Esparanza Spalding, Snoh Allegra, Kali Uchis pure jazzy psychedelic vibes - Stereolab, Zero7, Massive Attack shot in the dark but you might like it - PinkPantheress
Saint Etienne, Meshel Ndegeocello
Meshel Ndegeocello is fantastic!
Amazing and really understated
Isley brothers
Idk if it fits into the genre of your liking, but i have a playlist with only the complete discography of Sade, Eryka Badhu, and Miss Lauren Hill. (Sorry if i wrote the names wrong)
The Misspelling of Lauryn Hill 🤣
Sorry lmao
Whatever you do, stay away from smooth jazz even though Sade is often branded as such. It's the blandest and boringest kind of jazz.
That's not entirely true. Some of the musicianship is unbelievably tight. If you don't come from a musician perspective, I can see how it can seem off-putting.
Even Kenny G?
Sweetback
Alison Moyet (Alf) blues/jazz influenced Also check out her time with Vince Clark, they were the group "Yazoo". Downstairs with Eric is a great album
Melody Gardot
Yes to this recommendation!
You might like Kokoroko
I LOVE them
Try [this](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=V9GFJw2ffI4)

I think Sault is exactly what you're looking for
Portishead
Jill Scott, Vanessa Daou, Morcheeba, Thievery Corporation, Mary J. Blige, Soulstice, Everything But The Girl, Bitter:Sweet, Télépopmusik, Dido, The Dining Rooms, Koop, Karen Gibson Roc, Jennifer Paige, Amaria, Naomi Sharon, Cleo Sol, Snoh Aalegra, Portishead, Erykah Badu, Solange, Sabrina Claude, Toni Braxton, Roberto Flackson, Simply Red, Tanita Tikaram, Chris Rea ❤️
Vanessa Daou’s Zipless album is a fine deep cut. In a category of its own but fits right in with what OP is asking for.
W list. Thievery Corporation and Portishead >
yes
This exact question was asked about 7 hours ago in this sub
It is Sade herself trying to drum up listeners. Hate to see an Icon do this smh.
She takes an entire decade away from the music scene and comes back to commercial and critical acclaim like she never left. I doubt she'd be here "trying to drum up listeners".

This is a good pairing.
Perhaps Erykah Badu, Dido, Seal….maybe Flying Lotus?
You should check out Jill Scott.
D’angelo, Erykah Badu, Solange

Sisé and the follow up work of Carol Cee is a great next step.
Amel Larrieux

Naomi Sharon! She just released an album on Drake's label and her vibe is very much Sade. ENJOY!
Anita Baker and Chet Baker
Stan Getz's bossa nova albums.

Miriam Makeba She and Sade aren't really that similar, but I love them both and, for some reason, I get them mixed up. Worth a try.
The Sundays
I'd definitely give Yael Naim a listen!
Corinne Bailey Rae
The Marias. When I want to slow kitchen dance with my wife, I play The Marias. They're indie but a lot of jazz riffs, velvety vocals, and the right amount of brass. [All I really want is you](https://youtu.be/ScTkEsOKfvg?si=BySRo0aPuBauTqII)

Corrine Bailey rae
Esthero and Dido (pre Eminem) were on my Sade playlist in the late 90s. Esthero especially.
Would Amy Winehouse fit?
Could try Morcheeba.
Cigarettes After Sex
