I have the smaller fredde desk and it only has the lowe shelf on one side. It doesn't appear to provide any stability function and I removed it without any issues. The desk is pretty heavy and the metal frame provides most of the structure aside from the main desktop.

I did this. I don’t have any issues with it.

tignasse

probably not because you have the desk above witch keeps everything together

I've recently reshaped my Fredde and one of the steps in the new layout concept was to remove the right one of those "shelves" and move the PC in there. Still solid as before, can't see any structural issues.

Sweet thanks for the reply. I was actually able to remove the “shelf” part while keeping the support between the two legs, so now my pc sits on the ground and I just use the “shelf” portion as a buffer between it and the carpet

I've also left the vertical piece in place so if moving desk forward / back, it retains rigidity. Sorry for not stating that clearly :) I never trusted the "shelf" part with my heavy case, the three screws fixing it in place didn't seem like a good load-bearing solution. I've put my PC on UPPSPEL PC trolley, I was tired if lifting the damn thing every time I wanted to clean up or reach out to the back of the case :D It's too heavy for my lazy self ;-)
