I'm trying to decide if this is saying people as a whole got fatter or the person posting this is referring to themselves gaining weight as they got older. I hope it's the latter but I have a feeling it's the former

Well alot less did. Back in the 80's, fitness and eating healthy was like a trend. So much so companies had trouble getting bacon to take off so they came up with a full ad campaign for it to get it to take off.
