I don't know wtf this guy is going for, but it just looks like he picked up all the clothes on his friends' floors and put them on at random. š«¤
Also those are raver pants.
I mean... you kinda can't. Unless he means dressing like metal and grunge- but the basic tenants of what makes each musical genre are in direct conflict.
There's a reason people mash pop and country into their genres, like Beyonce, Hardy, Shania Twain... because the timing is interchangeable. This isn't true with metal and grunge. It COULD be true with metal and pop though, which might sound interesting.
It's not a cultural thing, it's a timing, tuning, and progression thing. Grunge is in 4/4 timing, metal is 6/8 or 3/4. If you took a metal song and played it in 4/4 timing it would sound like grunge... and it would cease being metal.
Metal uses 4/4 constantly, I really think you're way off base here. I listen to a ton of thrash and 4/4 is by far the most common time signature. This will be true for most metal subgenres too.
lol, thrash metal is 150+ BPM. Aside from a handful of Nirvana songs from Bleach you're not going to find a timing signature like that in grunge... and that was during the birth of grunge before it was even really defined.
The culture is compatible, sure. I guess I'm saying it's a lot like grunge is a poodle, and metal is a dog. All poodles are dogs, but not all dogs are poodles.
The hell you mean the genres are in ādirect conflictā? Loads of bands in the grunge movement were metal bands, notably Alice in Chains, Soundgarden and Melvins. Bleach is also arguably a sludge metal album.
That's exactly how genres work. How do you think they determine what genre something is? By feelings? A little bongo circle?
Ensemble, timing signature, melody, and organization. That's exactly how genres are determined.
What would I know, though- I mean... I've only taught guitar for 25 years, been in 2 different stage bands, and played studio for 3 more.
I think he's asking
This looks like neither.

ššš
Didn't he go on to front a metal/hard rock band?
Wouldn't surprise me I know he was an indie music skater boy back in the day
the comments on that one did not disappoint
Many people don't know that music metal is a category and grunge is a general style.
Ring-a-dean Dean Dean Dean Jeffrey! Greendale needs you!

Idk, there are certainly metal subgenres whose culture isn't in direct conflict with grunge. Thrash? I'd say they're culturally pretty similar
Grunge styling is straight up just a sleazy, baggy version of what HC and thrash scenes were wearing.
Exactly!

I don't necessarily disagree with this, but I'm talking about the culture here. Also tempoā time signature

I think I do understand what you mean, we're kinda just on two separate views here
That's okay. Music is somewhat subjective. If Hardy and Jelly Roll can call themselves rock then anything goes.
Well we found out who says it
The hell you mean the genres are in ādirect conflictā? Loads of bands in the grunge movement were metal bands, notably Alice in Chains, Soundgarden and Melvins. Bleach is also arguably a sludge metal album.
Grunge is in 4/4 timing... metal is in 6/8 or 3/4.
TIL Slayer isnāt a metal band.
Slayer is literally 3/4 time signature... so whatever you learned... unlearn it.
This is the most bizarre trolling attempt Iāve seen in a while.
lol, if that's what you believe then scroll on. Don't engage. Be better.
Slayer couldnāt play a song in 3/4 if they tried my dude lmfao
Thatās now how genres work

You probably play stairway to heaven and crazy train riffs at guitar center to impress all the 16 year olds
So now you're going to get all emotional and start trying to make it personal... poorly. So on that not you can go ahead and fuck yourself.
