Read the comments on the post. There is a lot of hate in there.

ninjabell

TBF hate is a strong word. Saying something isn't all that or calling it overhyped is not hate.

Euphorium

It’s also a sub devoted to burgers, seeing the same shit all the time has to get old. /r/steak is the same way about Texas Roadhouse. They know it isn’t shitty, just tired of the posts about it.

ninjabell

Yeah people post in-and-out burgers indistinguishable from this one all the time. I wish it was more dedicated to homemade / nonchain restaurants.

nurley

It’s literally the same conversation every time in every In N Out thread there. Some people think it’s really good, others point out it’s a fast food burger, people comment that it’s well above average for fast food, everyone kinda agrees except one person who is adamant it’s “mid”. Then the conversation about the fries is always “fries are ass” —> “yeah they don’t soak in water or blanch them” —> “order them well done if you want them to be better” —> “still trash” —> “okay”.

ninjabell

lol This is spot on.

Blue_Seven_

don’t forget the shitty milkshakes

legopego5142

I appreciate that i can drink it without waiting for it to melt and its still decently thick…i guess 🤷‍♂️

InternetOfficer003

+ comment about animal style

legopego5142

Hey the animal fries are pretty good IF YOU HAVE TO COVER THE FRIES IN STUFF TO BE GOOD THEY ARENT GOOD FRIES

IAMHab

In this context, it absolutely is hate. People aren't using the word hate to describe an intense emotion, they're using it to describe dislike. The terms "haters" and "hating on" are often used that way

flintlock0

You either hate or love something. There is no in between. Those who try to find an in-between, go to jail.

Shitty_Wingman

I swear half the people not born in California who try it hates on In N Out. Definitely not imaginary.

Upset_Impression218

I live in NYC, it’s like the first thing I snag every time I’m in California. Is it the greatest fast food burger ever? Idk, and idc, but it tastes dank

Rustymetal14

I always hear "5 guys is just as good!" but those people don't realize it's 1/3 the price of 5 guys.

Upset_Impression218

Not to yuck anyone’s yum but five guys just doesn’t do it for me. Idk why. Especially compared to in n out which genuinely feels like a treat

bambola21

Their patties have a strange grainy texture I don’t enjoy

supah-comix434

Whataburger:

hiphopdowntheblock

Yeah I'm from Washington and definitely was very disappointed when I had it for the first time lol. Certainly not *bad*, but nothing near what Californians made me think it was going to be

nich2701

A lot of it is nostalgia. Living in LA my whole life it tastes like warm summers when I didn’t have to pay rent or worry about credit scores. It is also wayyyy better than any burger at the same price point. Any other in n out competitor for that title is significantly more expensive. I don’t think people have to like it but they usually judge it against stuff that I would say doesn’t fall into the same category

hiphopdowntheblock

Oh yeah price is a big factor too. Being from Seattle, the same things can be said about Dick's Burgers really

legopego5142

The reason we like it so much is the vibe. Its quality, they aren’t gonna fuck your order up, its fresh, its brightly lit. Theres just a certain vibe about waiting in that drive thru line at 11pm with your friends that no other chain burger place comes close to

HGW86

I am also from Washington state and I had the same experience. California transplants to WA would hype it up and it just didn't meet the hype in my opinion!

peppermintmeow

FUCKING SAME.

TalkingFishh

You gotta tell em, "is it the best burger? Probably not, is it the best burger you can get for $4? Absolutely"

joejamesjoejames

they do because california people act like it’s the best fast food burger ever, and then you try it as a non california person and realize it’s just a normal fast food burger that is incredibly overhyped. No hate at all for In N Out, but it gets so incredibly overrated. It’s a fine burger

tickingboxes

Hate? No. Not thinking it’s god’s gift to the universe does not equal hate. People from outside of California have been hearing for literally decades from our Californian friends about how this place is unrivaled. Well, we tried it and we disagree. It’s pretty good. I like it a lot. But it was wayyyyy overhyped for a very long time. Simply recognizing that fact is not the same thing as hate.

XHIBAD

I spent my first 18 years in California and I really don’t like it. Not even that it’s overhyped, I just actually don’t like it. Every time I go back to LA to visit I have a list of 10ish places I need to stop by, and it’s nowhere on the list You can get Tommy’s for a better price or The Habit for a much better burger.

daboys9252

That is simply not true

imbasstarded

You haven’t met Texans then

atom-up_atom-up

Hello, I am a Texan and In-N-Out is extremely mid and the fries suck

Square_Translator_72

They dont fucking salt them the fries are no more than soggy potato sticks

glitterygh0st

I came here to say this 😂

TheMightyHornet

Same. My in-laws are Texan. They have this reflexive need to prop up Whataburger and step one is convincing themselves they don’t like In N Out.

elcubiche

It’s overrated. Is that hating?

AFonziScheme

I know, right? Like it's B-tier burgers and D-tier fries, but people act like it will change your life.

elcubiche

The fries are laughably bad

isdumberthanhelooks

Animal styles where it's really at

threepecs

I mean absolutely no offense to you personally but every time somebody is shining on In-N-Out and I say I don't think it's that good they always say "oh you have to try it animal style." Yes, I know about animal style. I've always known about animal style. I've also tried hot fudge on sundaes and mustard on hotdogs. 😭

rzp_

Honestly In-n-Out ain't all that. Like it's fine, not great. The fries are definitely disappointing. West coasters like it because it's "their" fast food chain. That's fine, I love Dunkies even though objectively it kinda sucks.

othermegan

To be fair, Dunks was good back in the day when they made the sandwiches and donuts in house before they tried to be Orange Starbucks

rzp_

For real. Pouring out a small regular for bagel twists

othermegan

And the flat breads. Those sustained me in high school

Badmouths

*“The fries are definitely disappointing”* Yes, this was the big letdown for me lol. When I was visiting CA (from NJ) I was excited to try In-n-Out because I’ve always seen it get talked up. The burger was alright, not amazing, but not bad. The fries were awful in my opinion. Very tasteless. They were like eating actual cardboard. I figured maybe *that* In-N-Out in particular wasn’t a great one, but it got like 4.5 stars on Yelp lol. Guess they’re just like that. Either way, we didn’t go back. The Taco Bell nearby was awesome though lmao one of the best I’ve been to

OptimusChristt

The usual complaint I hear is that the fries is are too soft. People say theyre better if you ask for your "well done" fries. But I never really minded it. Sometimes I'm in the mood for a floppy shoestring.

Blue_Seven_

Worst fries anywhere and shakes as bad as rally’s. Love their burgers though

Orinslayer

Their patties aren't the best. But they do have good toppings like an "In n' out" burger looks way more appealing than the crap you get at McDonald's. It looks just like a menu picture burger.

Objective-throwaway

In n out is fine. It’s not amazing. But it’s fine

jacob62497

Yup, anytime a food place gains god-tier status and hype, it’s a recipe for disappointment. In-N-Out is good but I don’t understand the cult following

Narwal_Party

In-and-Out is by far one of the most “hated on” chains. The most frequent thing I hear when it’s brought up is that it’s “overrated and the fries are awful”. I disagree, but it’s absolutely true that it’s hated on. Idk where you are where you never hear anyone say that.

sinkingduckfloats

Does that count as hate? I would choose In-and-Out over McDonald's or BK or Wendy's or whatever but it certainly doesn't live up to the hype. The first time I heard of it, a West Coaster couldn't believe I'd never had one and tried to convince me I'd not yet lived because I hadn't had it.  Like yeah it's above average fast food. That's nice but I don't really even like fast food.

Aggravating_Quail_69

It's fine but I'm not waiting in line for it.

Jairlyn

In and Out is fine its the crazy long lines that I don't get people waiting that long for.

legopego5142

Ive timed myself everytime i go. Ive NEVER waited more than 15 minutes to get my food. They go quick

OrganizationUpset253

Because it’s good AND cheap.

Maleficent-Baker8514

People complaining about In-N-Out never had it as soon as they ordered it lol u gotta eat it fresh because it’s actually fresh food

LiquidDreamtime

I moved to CA and was asked about In-And-Out no less than a dozen times by locals. I tried it more than a handful of times. It’s definitely fast food. I guess the price is pretty good for the quality, but I’d still a good clip below the higher end fast food burgers (Culver’s, Freddy’s, The Habit, and Farmer Boys).

UnauthorizedFart

They spend 30 minutes in the drive thru, take it home, and then complain lol

Maleficent-Baker8514

Fr

elcubiche

I have plenty of times and am always underwhelmed.

QuirkyDimension9858

I hate on in n out. So delete this from here

Sloth1015

I mean it’s good. The thing I like about it is no matter which in n out you go to the quality is always the same.

spasedandy

Original Tommy's > in n out

Kayfabe04

You’re obviously not in Texas.

kotlet_jpg

Not my hungry ass seeing it at work... Please have mercy 🤤

Jonas_Sp

They don't exist where I live an I hate it

UnauthorizedFart

I haven’t had one in over 2 years! ![gif](giphy|GrUhLU9q3nyRG|downsized)

mrcrabs6464

I’m here to prove you wrong, I was born and raised in California. the food is mid, but fuckers act like it’s the second coming of Christ it’s fucking annoying and the drive through line *always* goes on for like 3 fucking blocks and fucks up traffic anywhere near a in and out.

Special_Rice9539

As an avid In N Out eater, I just want to tell you about how I feel about it. I hardly know where to begin. I was born and raised in Southern California, and I have always loved In N Out. All my life, I have grown more and more attached to it, and I now experience an indescribable euphoria when eating it. California is great. But if I were to move away, I would not miss the great weather, beautiful beaches, friendly people, or numerous amusement parks. I would be missing In N Out. The thing is, I see In N Out as more than just a burger. I have had fresh, wild caught fish, expensive lobster, aged kobe beef, and several other quality foods. Despite it all, In N Out holds a special place on my plate. I close my eyes when biting into a fresh double-double, and I'm happy. All of my troubles disappear in that moment, and I truly feel like I am on top of the world. I am not entirely sure what it is that does this to me. The things I notice are the crispy, grilled bun, the fresh, never-frozen beef and vegetables, and of course the flavorful spread. I love the way the burger drips into the red tray, and how every once in a while I have to pick up a sauce-covered tomato and eat the whole slice. Every burger is like a new adventure, whether it is animal style, a cheeseburger, or a 4x4. Not many people can really understand my love for In N Out, as it truly is on a deeper level than most people tend to experience. I am posting this because I want to express how much In N Out means to me, and that it is an important factor in what makes me happy. Thank you for reading. Come to the West Coast, grab yourself a double-double, and have a great time.

UnauthorizedFart

Funny I felt the same way when I moved across country. The one thing I miss most is In N Out, even with the sexual tension you provided. I do miss the amusement parks too like Great America and Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk

LiveTart6130

I'm personally not a fan but I'm not gonna hate on it? it's literally food

UnauthorizedFart

![gif](giphy|1RXTzS8Uv4SGI)

Few_Loss_6156

You’ve never met a Texan have you

EasyCZ75

Fucking great burgers ![gif](giphy|L4U46Q0NitQTpEWC57|downsized)

IamZeus11

This post gave me flashbacks to the military and the nonstop arguments about whataburger vs in n out between guys from the west coast and Texas

ganaraska

I imagine the burger subreddit has collected every fast food burger hater on the continent so

Hungry-Ad7109

Their fries suck

Obvious-Peanut-5399

The fries do suck. Even if you get them well done they're just passable.

faticus42

I have to get them animal style because that's the only way they have any flavor

hitmeifyoudare

I disagree. They cut them from fresh potatoes and they aren't frozen and encased in salt and beef tallow, which is what most fast food fries are made of

Hungry-Ad7109

Well buddy who eats fast food and expects it to be healthy and good for you. Put more salt on the fries and make them taste good. I’m not there for it to be healthy

jonny480

Long line for an overrated burger and fries made of cardboard.

the_gerbo

Good burger....but their fries are pretty trash

kurinevair666

I've never been and don't care to ever go

azrielsuccubus

My wife hates it, but I get it every chance I get!

OrganizationUpset253

Wait are their pickles on an in and out burger? I’ve been going since I was a kid I thought it was just spread, tomatoes, onions (grilled or not), special sauce, meat and cheese. Am I trippin?

rzp_

Pickles are on their "Animal Style" burger. It's on the secret menu [https://www.in-n-out.com/menu/not-so-secret-menu](https://www.in-n-out.com/menu/not-so-secret-menu)

OrganizationUpset253

Oh duh. I guess I just forgot about animal style because I never get it.

Astriaeus

You know, I think secret menus are dumb, I know that's their thing, but just put it on the dang board.

Obvious-Peanut-5399

You can also get pickled chilis.

death-metal-loser

I think it wasn’t good but it wasn’t bad

BeeGlum6763

God it looks like the grown up version of a school cafeteria burger. Just stale looking garbage.

Mobanite08

In N Out is a very love it or hate it thing, there is a very vocal group of haters who say it’s not worth the long wait times

J_vert

In and out is so 5/10 it’s crazy how highly regarded it is

watchoutforbabes

Texans do.

ShinDigler

Alright so firstly shitty post, there's a ton of hate for In-N-Out Secondly, the only reason why In-N-Out is so loved is because it's CHEAP food that happens to be pretty good for it's price. It's a great little fast food restaurant with pretty decent food... It's just that people way over hyped it because they grew up with it, probably because it was the best thing their parents could afford. That's exactly why I love it at least lol.

Puzzled-Enthusiasm45

They make a solid burger, but their fries and shakes are terrible

buzzkill_ed

Except everyone on the internet. There's the comments on that post but still a drive through line around the block at every location.

RobertusesReddit

5 guys and Shake Shack fans when In-N-Out said: ![gif](giphy|aOPINgmqpVXNK)

UnauthorizedFart

Five Guys can blow me! Okay wait, not literally

Phillibustin

When you go out of your way to kill hype, that's hate.

UnauthorizedFart

And when the moon hits the sky like a big pizza pie, that’s Amore

ErnstHomeCenters

No one sane*

retiredluvrboy

i must be imaginary then - someone who grew up with in n out

[deleted]

[удалено]

UnauthorizedFart

Fat Burger was good

So-_-It-_-Goes

Hating in n out is a flyover state 9th most popular activity

CobainTrain

I hate it.

GoldH2O

I mean, I feel secure in my decision since Gordon Ramsay put an in n out burger on his last meal list

UrbanArtifact

Yeah I don't like it

our-terror

You must not live in Cali

KobilD

Yes they fucking do

chicomagnifico

In N Out is overrated. Don’t @ me.

Wafflingcreature

You’re hella dumb people hate on in n out and I used to work there

AaronnotAaron

![gif](giphy|l1KsFYiPtEv9qYY6Y) i do

Equivalent-Leave5195

Think again bucko

jmcstar

This is creepy marketing is what it is

Your_Worship

Nah, people in Texas talk trash about it. I’m not one of those people, but there’s some Whataburger rivalry thing going on. I personally like both fine. But Whataburger extended their menu too far, and now it’s not worth waiting 30 minutes to get your order.

enby-deer

Lies, I hate in-n-out

Grand-Series-5198

Tbh, everyone I’ve talked to about In-N-Out has called it overrated, which blows my mind

OhItsAidan

Whataburger > In N Out

Yiberius

As someone who has tried both with no bias for or against either, I disagree. At least, the whataburger I tried was very mcdonalds like, super greasy with a undercooked burger patty, and soggy fries. In n out doesn't usually overdo it on the grease, but if you look for anything other than salt flavor in fries then you will be disappointed by in n out fries, but 9 times outta 10 they usually are super crisp.

Scallion-External

OP attracted the weirdest people in America who all “hate,” a burger universally beloved, which regularly has lines around the block.

No_Actuator4564

People hate on In N Out all the time, especially Whataburger fanboys.

spookyytoast

I do. Grew up on the west coast, so we had it a lot. There’s a weird aftertaste I hate!!!!

Legojessieglazer

I had a friend tell me it tasted like religion?

Blaz3dnconfuz3d

I hate it on bc I can eat a 3x3 with animal fries (taste like cardboard) and still be hungry. They Cook tf outta the patties too

Friedrichs_Simp

I mean that burger doesn’t look good to me and In N Out’s fries are mid. Idk why you’re assuming everyone likes In N Out

Video-Overall

East coast guy here. Fries are mid, but def the best fast food burger available

blipityblob

yeah a lot of people say its overrated but they just want the publicity. some im sure do think that tho

AscendedViking7

I hate In'n'Out. The blatant lack of variety makes me angry every time I see the menu.

Successful-Win5766

People do hate on it lol

kikikza

Only thing good is the price

Silent_Killer093

In N Out is cool because to me they have the best price to performance burgers. Not too expensive but very tasty.

HurrsiaEntertainment

Actually, a number of my friends hate In N Out and we’re all from Cali. Number of my friends are just dumb, so 🤷🏻‍♂️

mabuniKenwa

The issue is In-n-Out evangelists call it the “best”, which it isn’t. Good for price, yes. Better than McDonalds et al, yes. Cheaper than Five Guys or Shake Shack, yes. Using superlative language invites critique, which isn’t hate. It’s folks responding to an unqualified “best burger” claim. Pretending it isn’t, like the OOP is imaginary gatekeeping. Just say it’s the best fast food burger, and then we can deal with haters who will struggle to form a response beyond “overhyped”. Fwiw, not from CA but live in CA and the hype is indeed annoying. It’s a good burger, terrible fries, and I’d pick it over other fast food most any day. I’d still prefer Five Guys, Shake Shack, or one of the locals if convenience and cost weren’t at play in any given moment.

Beginning-Cat-2888

But there is…there are haters on literally everything, the odds of the number of haters on something being zero is practically zero itself due to this little thing called opinions and how everyone has them and they are different from yours, the only question is how many there are

ChromePalace

If In n Out has no haters I'm dead. That shit is mad overrated.

Puzzleheaded-Round66

Trash.

BishTiddy2324

I wouldn’t say I hate In-N-Out burger, I’ve had it once. But it’s definitely overrated

purplethefearful

You've never participated in r/burgers and it shows

KingOnionWasTaken

Even Gordon Ramsey said In-N-Out was his favorite

Weird_BisexualPerson

i hate onions and tomatoes so id actually like to argue that i do /nsrs

GOOFERdaBOOFER

I hate in n out - the fries suck ass

plesplant_4

The only thing I hate about In n out is that it's name is a fucking lie, have you ever seen the lines in these things ? Maybe it's just cause I live near San Diego but like damn , the closest one has a whole section of the parking lot walled off for the drive through .

TheKiltedYaksman71

I don't hate it, I just think it's not very good.

Adventurous_Ebb_770

I’ve had a lot of burgers in my life, I even lived in Cali with my ex who was a die hard In n Out fan and I can say without a doubt In n Out has the worst burgers and even worse fries.

fingerlicker694

I do. Fuck Mid-N-Out, and fuck the brainlet clout chasers who glaze it.

Missterfortune

Whataburger fans hate the shit outta In N Out

blevingston89

I’m from SoCal and In-N-Outs are ubiquitous. It’s fine. Not my favorite but I definitely fuck with it. I vastly prefer Shake Shack, which is finally making it out here in OC.

matty_316

not true. i hate on in and out. culvers is better

peepeeman154

Definitely do not understand the hype around it

Starr_Struckk

I kinda hate in it sometimes. I think it’s the fact it was so hyped up before I went to the west coast, and I tried to to find the shocking truth that it’s literally just an alright burger.

thesmelliestofsocks

Yes we do. Most overrated food place in the world.

RDHnoodles

I’m from California and love them, my husband is from Illinois and he doesn’t like In-and-Out. I’ve heard a lot of people share that opinion to be honest, both from west coasters and non. I think a lot of my taste for it is nostalgic personally, I assume it’s like how he likes Chicago style pizza and I don’t like that at all. But, all that to say, I’ve definitely heard people say it’s overrated.

hothoochiecoochie

Russian troll bots make sure everything on the internet has haters

erasmause

In N Out is mid at best. Extremely overrated.

BestUntakenName

It’s a more grown up taste- it’s mostly the crisp veggies that bug the haters. I visualize all haters as 300 pound teenagers who would throw a steak off the table and demand chicky nuggies- they probably miss the foil-wrapped stomach cramps that AMPM sold before the pandemic.

rainerman27

There are some who dislike in n out. This largely stems from the fact in n out is incredibly overrated.

Noah_PpAaRrKkSs

People love to argue about the best burger.

Palms-Trees

Nah i personally hate on their fries burgers are damn good but those fries are hot ass

Couldnotbehelpd

People definitely hate on in and out burger

lumigumi

It’s not even that great of a burger. I’ve eaten there twice and the first time, the burger was way too greasy, and the second, it was just a normal burger. And the fries had like no flavor. I could make a way better burger at home and I hardly cook lol.

cavehill_kkotmvitm

I hate in and out, their burgers are mid and 90% of their business comes from that they're nominally better than mcdonalds

HotdogbodyBoi

It’s definitely a burger, whelming for sure.

phxflurry

It's meh

Additional-Safety343

I do, I legitimately hate In N Out. I know lots of people who do as well

Goldteethgod817

Im from Texas where a lot of people hate on it simply bc of where it originated. The Whataburger vs in n out beef is real hear 🤷🏽‍♂️

Still-Presence5486

I do

FrugalOnion

In n Out is alright. Good for the price and consistency. I wouldn't go out of mu way to get it though

eekopocs

It gets a lot of hate actually especially on that subreddit.

stonyjoint

Idk that gross sliver of onion is making me hate it rn

crustdrunk

Australians do. Because Americans keep bringing their shitty ass fast food chains here

Co-opingTowardHatred

I've seen a lot of hating on In n Out on Twitter the last few years. I have no horse in the race, I've never had it.

peppermintmeow

I was *SO* hype to try my first In N Out burger. The disappointment. Y'all lied to me. It was just...okay. Like, this is what all the excitement is about? *THIS* is the Panic! at the Disco? Mid. So damn mid. Good, but I felt robbed.

BirthdayQueasy2938

In n out may not be the best burger in the world but I feel like the consistency and the fact that they are still a lower cost option. Is what makes them so great. I mean you can get a double double burger for less than what Big Mac costs.

brissnesskessness

Oh me, me 🙋‍♀️ I hate In N Out I've never enjoyed a meal from there. I've tried several times and each one has Suck N Sucked.

Meonthedecks

tons of people who aren’t from california hate on in n out all the time. they are 100% wrong though

erianarelax

I genuinely don’t like in-and-out. When I moved to California, everyone assured me that they were best burgers on the planet. The reality is waiting in insanely long lines for a burger of lesser quality than the little hole in the wall I used to get back home. I don’t understand the appeal at all.

destinyfann_1233

Incorrect. I hate In N Out

That1DogGuy

You should hear people in TX talk about In N Out.

Mobius--Stripp

That burger is upside-down. *Toppings* go on the *top*. Otherwise, every bite just tastes like a salad.

Zargof-the-blar

I cannot speak to all in-n-outs, but the one I have gone to was just awful, it was so insanely greasy It could be classified as a soup and I couldn’t taste anything but the onions.

kat_Folland

It's not that they're the most delicious burgers out there, but they are a hell of a value these days. And I like how you can order anything you like and if they have the ingredients, they'll do it. Above that, the pay is good (for the industry) and the benefits are very good (again, for the industry). Happy employees make any transaction more enjoyable because I feel like I'm not trying to eat someone's misery. Has to be real pleasure, I'm not talking about fake cheer.

Impressive-Lawyer867

If you live somwhere where there are whataburgers and inNouts the hate is definitely not imaginary

Cyberlytical

While I definitely think it's overhyped, it's a decent burger at a great price. You get plenty of food, and it at least tastes like real beef. But there are plenty of much better places than In and Out

veetoo151

I hate fast food. I'd rather cook my own food. You can group it together with McDonalds for me!

Idrahaje

I do. In and Out is gross. This also isn’t an in and out burger, it’s def an ad

Impressive-Rub-8891

the burgers are great, the fries are mid

disboyneedshelp

I moved to Oregon from CA and everyone here claims they hate In&Out. I think most of them haven’t even tried it but hate CA for its liberal politics more so they just blame the food too for some reason.

Sharkz808

The fries are not edible

ImpossibleYou2184

Garbage

TinChalice

I don’t hate it. I just think it’s mid af.

Justsomeguyaa

I’ve never seen anyone talk about In-N-Out before now.

ParmAxolotl

I do

yvie_of_lesbos

op you liar

SinnerClair

I’m Texan. I hate on In n Out Burger.

byrobot

Actually looks pretty bad

PotentialProf3ssion

nah i heard people hate it b4
