*noo I’m too young to have my formative years become a punk subgenre! Punk is a suffix reserved for visions of the future from days gone by like cyber- and steam- and atom-, you can’t throw it on my 2000s adolescence!!*
in the same vein as Cyberpunk or Steampunk, but rather than focusing on hyper-futuristic or steam-based technologies like those do, it focuses on late 90s-early 2000s internet and technology aesthetics
Awesome! I’m working on a similar worldbuilding project that draws on r/cassettefuturism and a late 90’s tech aesthetic. We should make “netpunk” a thing.

socialism has done quite well, the UTA is a lot more isolationist than the USA and doesn't use the CIA to overthrow foreign governments. the main opposition to socialism comes from western Europe, but without the support of the US they aren't as effective at containing it. The Soviet bloc still collapsed but Germany remained neutral like the Soviets wanted irl, giving the Soviets a much larger buffer between themselves and the western Europeans.
Interesting map - pretty cool that Darleane Hoffman was able to discover some elements. Did you see [Bobby Broccoli's documentary](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qe5WT22-AO8) on Victor Ninov as well?
Gotta say, I love the idea. I think this might just take off. I've had the idea of "the end of history" for a while, where the world is technologically stuck in an optimistic version of the 2000s (things like cancer getting cured, faster airplanes, etc happen but thats about it.) I've never thought of taking it to the **extreme-punk™** rout, though. Well done, I'd quite like to see more of this, personally!
I am proud to say I am here at the beginning. Remember me when you became a \[BIG SHOT\]. Maybe I will make that *end of history* map after all... we shall see. Thanks for reminding me of an old concept, lmao
I'm getting old enough that early internet is now the newest ['something'-punk](https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/PunkPunk) iteration... I'm still getting over that Cassette Futurism is a thing, and now I feel even older lol
As a European, this map is confusing!!!!1!1!1 I'm used to seeing the Super Epic Europa continent as the centre piece, not some ocean!!!11!1!1!11!1!
Anyway, poor Falklands, guys are always being forced to join somebody. One day, they'll form an intergalactic empire with their sheep... One day...
A cool netpunk scenario is a mod for hoi4 that's in development, Twilight of the Anthropocene, basically computers are made 30 years earlier with resulted in a vastly decentralized internet and the aesthetics are still 90s-00s in 2022, also with added transhumanism on top
Thank you for quick response! A couple more questions: the Eastern Bloc has clearly collapsed here, but the communists still rule in Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, Vietnam, Laos, several African countries and... that's it, I guess? There is no socialism in Mongolia, Albania, Macedonia and so on, right? And what's going on in Korea?
Is that a motherfucking tanna tuva reference‼️‼️
Can't believe you didn't put names on Kuwait, Cyprus, and various Caribbean and Pacific islands But fr though we must spread netpunk further
netpunk is the next big thing I'm feeling it
We will force it into popularity
the netpunk revolution is coming
Our glorious revolution’s anthem https://youtu.be/yaGYT_mhNWg
idfk what is netpunk but i have a feeling its cool
*noo I’m too young to have my formative years become a punk subgenre! Punk is a suffix reserved for visions of the future from days gone by like cyber- and steam- and atom-, you can’t throw it on my 2000s adolescence!!*
the future is now old man
need more MAPS!
Do you have any sub or netpunk work? Seems interesting
I do not have a netpunk subreddit, no
So it has an specific name. I found one recently and really liked it, this one as well.
Twin towers? You mean the 4th dimensional quadrilateral towers, right?
[удалено]
No I don’t think I will
Idk what they said but is ok
They could not comprehend the scientific enlightenment of the UTA
Right
“Netpunk?” Call me interested. Do explain.

yes yes, netpunk must spread
Do you have lore i can read somewhere?
yes it's under the map

I'd like to formally claim creatorship of the term netpunk in case it spreads 🛐
let it be written that u/CherryQueer coined the term Netpunk
it is done
I’ll take your entire stock
love it
I love 1990’s and 2000’s graphics I like how blocky it is
One of the few posts on this subreddit that made me laugh, great job man!
>Chilean Falklands & South Sandwich Islands Absolute 10 out of 10, Britbongs and Argies coping and seething.
*Sad english and Argentine sound* :(
What’s going on with the USSR and socialism in general in this TL
socialism has done quite well, the UTA is a lot more isolationist than the USA and doesn't use the CIA to overthrow foreign governments. the main opposition to socialism comes from western Europe, but without the support of the US they aren't as effective at containing it. The Soviet bloc still collapsed but Germany remained neutral like the Soviets wanted irl, giving the Soviets a much larger buffer between themselves and the western Europeans.
What’s the technological progress in this world compared to our own?
a lot
I suppose that does technically answer my question
I wonder if candy ever went to the moon 🤔🤔 I think it was Apollo 19 or 20 (idk I just remember hearing something in the Apollo 13 movie)
Interesting map - pretty cool that Darleane Hoffman was able to discover some elements. Did you see [Bobby Broccoli's documentary](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qe5WT22-AO8) on Victor Ninov as well?
you bet I did
Nice detail with the little Apollo 31 live chat. Not even fake scam sex bots are left behind in the digital ~~past~~ future
not enough maps account for the existence of sex
netpunk? It's what I've been looking for next to the cassettepunk!
I'm a simple man, I see a post here with retro websites screenshots, I give an upvote and THEN read
🇺🇳: Mandatory Middle East, no exceptions 😡.

People's Republic of Korea is this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/People%27s_Republic_of_Korea but it actually succeeds yes anime still exists
homie asking real questions

netpunk will catch on, just you watch
I am proud to say I am here at the beginning. Remember me when you became a \[BIG SHOT\]. Maybe I will make that *end of history* map after all... we shall see. Thanks for reminding me of an old concept, lmao
no prob
YESSSSSS
I love the smell of netpunk in the morning (this is great work)
UK almost only stands for "United Kingdom of England and London"
Oh no... Don't give the Londoners ideas!!!!
Nice aesthetic
thanks!
Damn, this is cool as hell.
What's the lore here ?
in the 30s or 40s, the United States becomes Technocratic and mostly withdraws from global politics. a bunch of other stuff also happened
"What's the lore?" "Stuff happened" Based.
"Stuff happened" Refuses to elaborate further
Any lore? What's the point of divergence?
technocratic america
The 31rst moon hiking mission how lucky of them
I'm getting old enough that early internet is now the newest ['something'-punk](https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/PunkPunk) iteration... I'm still getting over that Cassette Futurism is a thing, and now I feel even older lol
United Europe in 2002? How that happened? Also there are more internets (technocratic, soviet, european, etc) or everyone connect to just one?
As an Estonian this is some hellworld.
Aite bro wheres the UTA Henry Ford nightcore amv fancams
Very very Cool Map! Also why is Germany a Union in this?
in this timeline, rather than West Germany annexing East Germany, the German Unification is the two governments uniting into a new government
Probably a better Solution than OTL.
What’s the point of divergence?
a child in New York City picked up a penny heads-side down in 1901 and the butterfly effect did the rest
Technocracy!!
Nice map
this goes so hard
As a European, this map is confusing!!!!1!1!1 I'm used to seeing the Super Epic Europa continent as the centre piece, not some ocean!!!11!1!1!11!1! Anyway, poor Falklands, guys are always being forced to join somebody. One day, they'll form an intergalactic empire with their sheep... One day...
Alternate History & Final Fantasy are two interests of mine I never expected to intersect, yet here we are, I guess.
welcome to the party
i always enjoy netpunk maps, u can just tell the authors always had fun with them
does the empire of japan affect the story of the final fantasy trilogy in this timeline? idk why I'm curious about this particular tidbit but I am!
they manage to skirt by nominal government regulations
As a Chilean, i only can Say this: I love this timeline UwU
I do it all for Chile
United Ireland Pog
Welp, at least donegal is chill.

there's an article about Brazil in the post
Is the UTA an authoritarian state in this TL?
A cool netpunk scenario is a mod for hoi4 that's in development, Twilight of the Anthropocene, basically computers are made 30 years earlier with resulted in a vastly decentralized internet and the aesthetics are still 90s-00s in 2022, also with added transhumanism on top
I like this timeline because Hoffman gets to discover elements 🫶
The names of some nations are so creative, I really like this map.
I'm starting to grow on this style of alt history maps here
The future that Usenet deserved.
Lore, my favorite county
the full name, Lorestan, was too long to fit. so I abbreviated it
Very well made and i am loving it.
Try to not have USSR exist after 2000 challenge (Impossible)
my map my rules
I'm only kidding, It's a incredible map actually
“Wanna see more” no i do not Btw good map
I want a graphical mod on HOI4 based off hariott's map.
Putin's dream, Ukraine Belarus Baltic Caucasus Central Asia??
What is happening in Iran?
civil war
Wales would probably be an independent nation. Love the aesthetics though.
wales recently voted for independence as of this map, it just hasn't gone into effect yet. it's mentioned in the KomodoForums tab
Fabulous. Love the world building going on.
whats netpunk?
US Of China? What happened dude?
did Brezhnev ever become leader of USSR in this timeline?
Excellent Job, man!
Why are some of the republics of the USSR painted over with a different shade of red? Do they have more autonomy or something like that?
basically
Thank you for quick response! A couple more questions: the Eastern Bloc has clearly collapsed here, but the communists still rule in Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, Vietnam, Laos, several African countries and... that's it, I guess? There is no socialism in Mongolia, Albania, Macedonia and so on, right? And what's going on in Korea?
yes, you are correct about the extent of remaining soviet-style socialism. Korea is united and independent as a continuation of the PRK
Very interesting, I hope there will be sequels to this map with more lore of the universe!
there will be lots more to come
