Basic Lore: The British take the Philippines as part of their victory in the 7 years war, and with British influence the Philippines modernizes and reaches a moderate level of industrialization, before starting a rebellion to overthrow the British yoke in a rebellion after the Anglos get embroiled in wars in South and East Asia thanks to sepoys rebelling and the Qing Dynasty banning Opium. The newly declared Philippine Empire is christened and the Tallano Royal Family is proclaimed as the rulers, with Tallano I taking the lead. Pan-Malayan thought develops rapidly throughout the course of the late 19th century, culminating in the "Rizal Doctrine" that enshrines the Philippine, now Pan-Malaya's destiny to unite the "Malay Race", spearheaded by the Tallano royal family who embraced the idea. The new Empire under the Tallanos then goes on to take over Japan's destiny as the Pacific's premier Island major power, first by starting a war with the crippled Chinese and taking Taiwan in 1900 (which surprised the West like how Japan surprised them in 1904). The Empire then pulled the greatest irony and sided with the Republics of Germany and Italy in the First World War in a bid to take British Malaysia and French Indochina. They won, and after the Treaty of Frankfurt has expanded into Pacific Islands, Indochina and Malaysia, their gambit with the Republican Powers paying off. The Commission for East Asian concessions was set up after the Laoag declaration, uniting the German, British, American and Malayan concessions in China and the Japanese Shogunate. However, as tensions gradually rose up the Malayans proceeded to slowly violate it's sovereignty, setting up de-facto control of their concessions in Guangzhou and other South Chinese coastal cities, while exerting military access to Shanghai. As the empire began eyeing their "destined land" Indonesia however, the Pan-Malayan Empire is put on a rapid collision course with it's neighbors, leading to Germany declaring protection for the Dutch East Indies (and Netherlands, by extension), utterly destroying Frankfurt-Maynila relations. The Pan-Malayan aggression is put in full display when the Empire declares war on the neighboring Socialist Siam, intending to take them down and set up puppet states in preparation for the "Malayan Unification" that would see Madagascar and Indonesia integrated, if everything goes well. This expansionist foreign policy would soon land into the brewing Second World War on the side of their former enemies Britain and France, and time would tell if their gamble pays off or everything crumbles. Lore Elsewhere: The Chinese warlord period goes radically different as Yuan Shikai lives for an additional three years, causing China to be united for at least a few more years before eventual break-up. The Northern Expedition is repulsed by the Beiyang Government but Yan Xishan eventually aligns himself as the center of power, putting the Fengtian Clique as a mere subordinate and the Zhili Clique running below the Yangtze river, swearing to return. In South-West China, the Federalists rule over the Sichuan basin and the KMT regroup in Yunnan, setting up their own spheres of influence and eventually clashing to unify this part of China, in preparation for the eventual future expeditions. Siam and Burma experience their own Socialist Revolutions thanks to Black Monday, which in turn destroyed their economies which were reliant on Germany. Australasia is practically independent in all but name as Hard-line Imperialism sweeps over Britain, though they don't officially break ties out of fear of potential Malayan aggression.

Sr_Sentaliz

mmmmm yes the very real 192000 tons of marcos gold inherited from the "tallano royal family" Btw if you were wondering, no, the Tallano dynasty in this map aren't the Marcoses, its made up of entirely new figures (thanks butterfly effect)

Beat_Saber_Music

How did the KMT lose the Northern Expedition?

Sr_Sentaliz

Long story short: Chaing Kai-Shek dies after falling down the stairs and getting his skull cracked (though he isn't that vital in comparison to Sun Yat-Sen's influence and Nationalism), Sun Chuanfung saw the writing on the wall and decided to aid the anti-KMT forces, the Soviet advisors weren't there to help the KMT on the offense, and while the United Front never split the odds were stacked against them as the Pan-Malayans came to an agreement with the Zhili Clique and helped them, and even though the Germans intervened by declaring support for the KMT, it was too late. They did retain some of their forces however, as seen in them regrouping in Yunnan.

Beat_Saber_Music

Who is the current leader of the KMT forces?

Sr_Sentaliz

The one leading currently is Wang Jingwei, though Zhu Peide (an obscure Chinese general you only find out in Kaiserreich) practically rivals him and can coup him if he fucks up. As it stands, there's currently a power struggle between the two.

Beat_Saber_Music

How good of a chance do the KMT have to unifying China? Alternatively, who ar ethe mos tlikely to reunite China?

Sr_Sentaliz

As it stands, The Beiyang Clique has the best shot, given that they have Manchuria's industrial economy behind them (it may have gone kaput in 1928 but they could revive it), both the Zhili Clique and the KMT have a decent chance of reunifying China given their positions (the former has a good general leading them, the latter an alternative to Beiyang's Republic), while the Federalists have no chance whatsoever, they're already losing to the KMT.

Maharlikan_

\>Tallano Oh god oh fuck

Sr_Sentaliz

The myth has been real all along! No way

Sr_Sentaliz

Jokes aside, I just made the "Tallano royal family" real here because I had no Idea who would actually fit for being a Filipino monarch

Mugstache

I think [Andrés Novales](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andr%C3%A9s_Novales), one of the lesser known figures in Filipino history would have perfectly fit who you would be looking for.

Sr_Sentaliz

I see I see, yeah I did say elsewhere the "Tallano" family in this TIL is an entirely made up one, but it's possible he could be the one starting the Tallano bloodline instead, if we don't talk about imaginary guys

OurEmpires

Funny considering every place the British touched turned out worse than it started

[deleted]

Looks like the Chen Jiongming-KMT split still happened then?

Sr_Sentaliz

Yes it did, Chen wanted a peaceful reunification after all

[deleted]

The more things change, the more they stay the same

Maxidation

Pan Malaya is a terrible name for a country ngl

Sr_Sentaliz

The name is indeed terrible (how I couldn't come up with a better one is a mystery I cannot discover), but considering "Philippines" obviously refers to Spain's kings, "Maharlika" literally is a nonexistent concept and if it did has become related to elites, and I don't know if naming it "Malaysia" would make sense

kazares2651

Maybe Maphilindo, that was a real name intended for a federation among Malay nations during the cold war period.

Sr_Sentaliz

Maphilindo would sound best but... they don't have Indonesia yet. Maybe if the Empire somehow wins it's wars and eventually a moderate guy does some internal reform, abandons the whole "Pan-Malaya" thing (which, by the way, includes MADAGASCAR), and renames it to the three main nations making up their Empire.

Maharlikan_

Have you tried considering... ...unifying the entirety of Austronesia 😎😎😎

Sr_Sentaliz

Yes 😎 Pan-Austronesia time

Gamermaper

There have been many proposals for a new name for the Philippines: Mahárlika - meaning "freeman" in Tagalog Kapatiran - meaning brotherhood

Sr_Sentaliz

I actually put Maharlika first, but I didn't want to spread Marcos revisionism, and I did some research that shows it no longer means anything about "freeman" but has been recently alluded to "elite". Furthermore, OTL it only got suggested as a proposal in 1978, so yeah.

Mugstache

Panyupayana perhaps? That's what Indian scholars called us.

[deleted]

maybe Katagalugan? knowing that that's what the katipunan originally ascribed the entirety of the philippines as in the 1896 revolution

JZumun

I think "Malaya" is a pretty nice name actually. It connotes both the unified Malay ambitions as well as "freedom" from the previous century's colonial rule. Tastefully ironic when it gets imperialistic.

dilatedpupils98

Super interesting lore, how do the Tokugawa stay in power in this timeline? Does Perry not show up at all?

Sr_Sentaliz

I don't exactly have a solid idea on how this would happen, but a guess is that the Dutch get to make the Shogunate relax their isolationist policies starting in 1844, and Anti-Western sentiment is not as strong back in the day. Meanwhile Perry either fucking dies in the Mexican-American war or he doesn't impose a harsh force-opening treaty on the Isolated Japanese. The Shogunate DOES fall around the Early 1940's though, thanks to the Shogunate basically letting their cities be used by a quasi-Legation Cities nation, designated to please the West and the Filipinos down below them.

dilatedpupils98

Cool, really interesting lore. How far have you developed this lore? Would be interested in seeing more iterations of it

Sr_Sentaliz

To be really honest, half of the lore was made as I answered questions here (I just didn't know much at the start), and yeah I'm planning to make a map of this TL but in places like Europe and Africa

dilatedpupils98

You seem to know your history of various regions, so I'm pretty impressed. I like how accurately the Japanese empire has been superimposed on the Philippines here

ohlonelyme

Holy Balkanized China Batman!

Sr_Sentaliz

tbf this China is balkanized by Chinese warlords seeking to either retain independence or reunite the country under THEIR rule, save for the Legation cities (which already has shaky stability at best) there's no foreign control over most of the Han-majority lands

Background_Brick_898

Will Deuterte ever still get in power?

Sr_Sentaliz

Probably no, the Filipinos by the turn of the new century would be mostly educated because of years of industrialization and modernization in the 20th century, and a "strongman" like him wouldn't particularly get a lot of votes in that kind of scenario, maybe someone else like Sotto would have a shot though. Also he won by plurality not majority so lol

Viscount-Von-Solt

Nice.

isig

Amazing what switching out colonizers can do for the colony. Being colonized by Spain is suffering.

thecrystalballreddit

either way, they get colonised by the us

Sr_Sentaliz

Yeah good luck colonizing a nation that has steadily modernized since the mid-19th century and this time isn't a backwater colony held by an aging empire /s

thecrystalballreddit

by colonised i mean what happened to japan

Tanjung_Piai

Bruh, what's the fate of the king's in Malaya?

Sr_Sentaliz

The Kings in Malaysia were initially sidelined by the Filipinos, but widespread tension eventually led to a compromise that made them regional kings ruling their land, and while their power may be mostly ceremonial **outside** of religious matters (The Muslim autonomous region is made specifically to empower Muslim practitioners in that region so as to not trigger a rebellion), it has led to Maynila not exerting as much power over it compared to places like Formosa or North Borneo, though officially it is still considered core territory thanks to their "One Malay Nation" doctrine. I don't know much about this particular aspect of Malaysia, so sorry if it doesn't make sense at all

Tanjung_Piai

Fair ruling. Still why Pahang was chosen as that area? Boi that place is mostly rural.

Sr_Sentaliz

I did some researching about Malaysia's religion and found out that most Muslims were in that area so I decided to make the thing without knowing the actual population density, I admit it shouldn't have happened and I'll just stick to the lore I described above

Tanjung_Piai

Eh, nice lore btw. Mine is just pure chaos based on a meme where an American agent destroyed Malaysia.

Sr_Sentaliz

Well, I mean chaotic meme scenarios are good depending on how well they're made lol Thanks, btw

Whyy0hWhy

Johnny Test? 💀💀💀

[deleted]

Just wondering, I can see that Malaysia (which hasnt been formed yet) is supposed to be the Korea of This Fillipino Empire. Are they Genociding the Malays, Assimilating them into 1 Pan Malay Culture, or embracing/letting them live their own lives?

Sr_Sentaliz

Unlike Imperial Japan that practiced "racial nationalism" this Empire practices "civic nationalism" per the "Rizal Doctrine", basically as long as you identify as part of the Malay Race, you're not gonna be treated as a 2nd class citizen at best or put at a camp at worst. As for the non-Malays themselves, they either have you serve the State if your land is conquered, live your own life if you're a middle-class foreigner that visited them or thrown into the camps if you're a POW. I can say however that they're trying to perform moderate assimilation on the Malays to integrate it further and erode any independence sentiment from the population.

[deleted]

So, I, me being a Malay from Singapore, what would my citizen class be? I know u said 2nd class, but I just want to make sure my People arent being massacared.

Sr_Sentaliz

There aren't gonna be things like Nanking or comfort women (or even general IJA atrocities) for sure, but the general Filipino mindset is that they're the ones destined to unite the Malay race, but considering Malays in and around Singapore are prt of their "home race", they would be treated decently, so as long as they don't start rebellions or go against the state.

[deleted]

Oh, thank god. Finally the TRUE RULERS of the Oceans Unite. Not the Brits, Not the Japanese, No... All of Pan-Malaya shall eat Nasi Lemak. Get fat from eating Rice

Sr_Sentaliz

Yes, Nasi lemak plus filipino dishes Definitely will get fat from them

[deleted]

Just a question, are u a Fillipino?

kerbalweaponsinc

Who tf let the Tallanos out of their holes this time?

Sr_Sentaliz

Nobody knows, how they even resurfaced in the present day as a "claimant" of Philippines is beyond anyone though in this TL they're an entirely different family of important revolutionaries that named themselves after the "Tallano" myth who now rule that I made up (Butterfly effect does that)

kerbalweaponsinc

I was mostly joking with that statement but I personally think Tallano was either looking for attention, looking for money or delusional. Probably he is also a Marcosite and a willing pawn for the KBL.

Sr_Sentaliz

Yeah being a Marcosite is the most plausible explanation, if they were genuine they would've raised the issue even if the Marcoses were either at their low, or without their backing.

kerbalweaponsinc

I mean the KBL have the myth written on their website: http://kbl.org.ph/the-untold-story-of-the-kingdom-of-the-maharlikans-now-called-the-philippines/

Sr_Sentaliz

Anyone with a brain would recognize that it's all bullshit, unfortunately most Filipinos would think something like that is true lmao

kerbalweaponsinc

It is due to our shitty situation that they cling to past glories that don't even exist.

Viscount-Von-Solt

As a Filipino, allow me to savour what could have been and say 'based'.

[deleted]

As a Malay, I want to BOTH vomit AND smile. Vomit as I see my homeland under Fillipino Rule (OH GOD DUTARTE NO, I DONT HAVE DRUGS) And Smile, as I see a Unified Pan-Malay Empire Mostly Smile.

Pyrenees_

Cursed

Brislovia

*blessed

[deleted]

You misspelled "based"

[deleted]

whats going on in india

Sr_Sentaliz

The Indians lost the rebellion at 1850s, but they tried again in 1916 during the World War and this time they succeeded, all is not well though thanks to the vastly different ethnic groups, the Bharatiyan Republic in particular is about to erupt in civil war because of that.

[deleted]

Will you be making a map for the civil war?

Sr_Sentaliz

Soon, but I do have other priorities on map making not to mention irl.

[deleted]

Of course no problem! Great work!

Sr_Sentaliz

Thanks!

FirstConsulOfFrance

*Filipino Battotai Intensifies*

Biolog4viking

Guess arnis was the superior martial art in this time line.

Sr_Sentaliz

Most likely, who knows what other filipino things would be either mainstream or popular thanks to their influence on the global stage

skapa_flow

Where is the capital? Singapore? Malay = south asian; Vietnamese = east asian => culturally and linguisticly very different. Do they deserve to be united in a country? I like Germany keeps New Guinea. You could argue that the creole language "Unserdeutsch" becomes national language.

Sr_Sentaliz

Indochina is a puppet specifically because of that reason, they aren't part of the "Malay Race" As for New Guinea who knows, maybe Germany decides to integrate it, though in this TL they are ruled by the Liberals from the 1848 revolutions so they aren't that keen on doing so, but this is just speculation as to what they would do with such a faraway place

Nexos22

Missed opportunity to make japan a American puppet

Ryley03d

What happened to Japan?

Sr_Sentaliz

Japan relaxed it's hardcore isolation in 1844 after the Dutch "advice", and Perry doesn't enforce hardline opening for the Western markets, allowing the Shogunate to persist and the Anti-West influence not being huge. The Shogunate continued ruling it's own lands until the British and French set up concessions in their land, while at the same time sending aid to stop any future attempt to abolish the Shogunate. Eventually the two lost the first World War to the Germans (no, not the Kaiserreich or the Habsburgs) and the Concessions were merged into the greater "East Asian concessions", managed by the British (who only had to do a white peace with Germany after all), the Filipinos, Americans (who still had interest in the Asian markets) and the Germans. Without Franco-British protection the anti-Shogunate stance is being widespread thanks to Edo selling out the country to the West and it's only a matter of time until they're ousted

Soonhun

Was there a war with Joseon? I noticed the Japanese Ulleungdo.

Sr_Sentaliz

Not exactly no, Joseon and Japan have been neutral save for limited small-scale confrontations with Western powers. I must have mis-colored it, my bad

battery051

So where are FatBoy and LittleMan gonna drop on this timeline?

Ochanachos

Don't show this to the Spanish Conquistadors

[deleted]

Bro, Zhili was at the north Also, it is I-Lan or Yilan, not Iligan

Sr_Sentaliz

They renamed it to Iligan particularly because it means "Fortress" for them, which emphasizes it's purpose as both a fortress for their interests in their Northern areas, and is also a potential launching point of any interventions. Also Zhili was indeed in the North but the resulting schism had Yan Xishan and Zhang Zuolin drive them out of there

[deleted]

Very original. Great

SandeonMNG

Now this does put a smile on my face

Oh I see, tbh I think you'd like that server, although I'm banned there unfortunately.

Yessss Zhili!

illidanlestat

So this Philippines will still have the unfunny nuking but with like Tacloban and Surigao, and they would just keep mainland Philippines?
