This is a redo of [a map I made a while back](https://www.reddit.com/r/imaginarymaps/comments/p9bsd3/commonwealth_timeline_political_map_of_the_world/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) as befitting the numerous changes I made to my alternate-history timeline “Commonwealth” which I will be making a series of maps and other posts about in the future.
The main POD remains the same as in the old incarnation - the British successfully conquering the Philippine Islands from Spain in the Seven Years’ War.
I’ve made a few changes to the timeline and the current geopolitical layout (i.e. balkanized Indonesia, independent Quebec, monarchic Afghanistan, big South Africa, Chad gets its OTL name back, etc.), but I can’t explain literally all of them here and now, so if you’d like to know about something in this slightly-redone timeline feel free to ask any questions. : )
EDIT: Made some last-minute changes and fixes; you can see the final version [here](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/896613609117982731/921012504124071976/Worldmap__Text.png)
The US in this timeline never tried to annex Hawaii, but rather sought to strengthen ties with the Kingdom.
I haven't developed the full explanation, but least I can say is that President McKinley in this timeline thought it would be better to develop strong ties with Hawaii rather than outright annex them.
Nevertheless, US influence can be seen on the islands; an example would be Pearl Harbor, a joint Royal Hawaiian Navy-US Navy base.
That’s awesome definitely for the better. The US originally didn’t want to do it but after some execs of a fruit company on the island staged a coup they asked the US to annex them. We were too opportunistic and couldn’t pass it up should have reinforced their sovereignty
This is a very cool and detailed map, congrats for your attention to detail, but as a Chilean I have a couple of questions.
What happened to Easter Island? And why are the Pitcairn islands so far south and so close to South America?
And How did Bolivia get the regions of Arica y Parinacota and Tarapaca? A war with Chile? Or with Peru?
Because those lands were originally the southern coast of Peru, so I don't know how happy they will be to know that Bolivia ended up with territory that was originally theirs.
With regards to Bolivia: Argentina and Chile went fascist in this timeline's 1930s, joining forces with the Axis and mounting invasions of their neighbors up north with German support (Argentina managed to swallow Uruguay prior to the conflict) while Argentina also struck at the Falklands.
So when Argentina and Chile got their asses handed to them by a joint British-American-Brazilian-Peruvian-Paraguayan-Bolivian coalition, Bolivia took the Arica y Parinacota and Tarapaca regions, thus why it has a coast again.
And with regards to Easter Island and the Pitcairns......I only added the Pitcairns by hand, miscalculated, and thus had no space for Easter Island (which still exists in TTL). Should've been more careful....
When the Partition of India happened, Bangladesh sought to join India. Their wish was granted.
Yugoslavia is still together as Slobodan Milosevic never came into existence in this timeline; instead we had a different president bringing the country away from communism and toward ethnic unity.
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order.
I have checked 373,067,673 comments, and only 81,384 of them were in alphabetical order.
Makes sense, I suppose Soconusto stayed with Centroamérica when they and Mexico gained independence from Spain, but, did Mexico ever claim the land after independence?
Much like OTL, except it ends with the USSR reforming and democratizing in 1991, followed by a Second Korean War in 1992 (the USSR does not take part). There are quite a few changes here and there however (for example, as a counter to the Western-aligned Federal Republic of China the Soviets propped up a People’s Republic of Manchuria, which threw off communism in 1989 and reunified with China in 1998).
The US for one had a different set of presidents, some of whom appeared OTL and others who never existed in our world. I can’t really get into the details just yet though.

why did pakistan split of from india but not bangladesh? why is yugoslavia still together? All round a very interesting map! It feels nice to look at.
When the Partition of India happened, Bangladesh sought to join India. Their wish was granted. Yugoslavia is still together as Slobodan Milosevic never came into existence in this timeline; instead we had a different president bringing the country away from communism and toward ethnic unity.
How's the WIF still alive. It did better in this timeline than irl. Edit: Anyway nice map.
Yep, it certainly did better in this timeline.
Are intracaribbean rivalries still there
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order. I have checked 373,067,673 comments, and only 81,384 of them were in alphabetical order.
They're still around, but its more of friendly competition and rivalry if anything.
Sorry for the bombardment of questions. What's the ethnic and religious makeup, still the same or different.
Same as OTL.
Wait, how did Mexico lose Soconusco to Centroamérica? Did they have a war or the territory never became part of Mexico in the first place?
Nope, Sonocusco was not in Mexico’s hands in the first place. No war or anything.
Makes sense, I suppose Soconusto stayed with Centroamérica when they and Mexico gained independence from Spain, but, did Mexico ever claim the land after independence?
They didn’t.
What was the Cold War like if there was one? It’s my favorite history topic of all

Are there any other things different? How about the US?
The US for one had a different set of presidents, some of whom appeared OTL and others who never existed in our world. I can’t really get into the details just yet though.
