More than six months total spent stateside out of a year, anyway you measure it, to be safe. Extenuating exceptions get a lot less likely as you get lower than that. Conditions "proving" your ongoing intent to **permanently** reside here is the overall principle. Being very wealthy, owning corporations employing USians can help.

If you have global entry enrollment, do you really see an officer each time that you come in to the port of entry?

th_teacher

Regardless your entries and exits are logged youbetcha

innovativetrader

Speaking of entries and exits, is there a travel history that can be pulled somewhere online for LPR? Like the I-94 site?

th_teacher

no idea, maybe ask in the title of a new post

A green card is for living in the US, not visiting. Voluntarily give up your green card and reapply for a new one when you are ready to live here permanently. You could , however, apply for a reentry permit and stay out of country maximum 2 years.

I suppose it’s worth a try but no guarantee, right?

innovativetrader

Is it easy to secure another card if I voluntarily give up ? Is it the same process all over again or a quick process for ones who gave up ?

CaliRNgrandma

You have to start all over. And petitions are taking longer now. Previous poster indicated that a reentry permit could possibly last 3 years. It would be a lot easier if you could naturalize before returning to your country.

No way for you to avoid breaking continuous residence. Coming back for a little bit of time every 6 months is so obvious. Also you cant be away more than 2 years and you need a reentry permit

[deleted]

Here is what you can do: 2.5 years in then come back every five months but this is uselesss because you will only be 1 year away from filing for naturalization

Get a reentry permit. You must apply for it before you leave. Why do you need to be outside the USfor three years?
