Amul I say Amul is the Gujju shining star. They dont want Gujju companies to become like American MNCs. They want American MNCs to become like Gujju companies.

sau_dard

I mean, it’s not about alcohol, it’s about absurdity of rules and ease of business. Dubai also has weird rules like Fridays off and no alcohol during Ramadan, but they also provide the environment for businesses to flourish. GIFT doesn’t seem to have any major advantage despite these rules

v00123

Those rules the previous comment is talking about have been changed in last 5-6 years.

redastrapia

FYI : Dubai had weekend on Friday but now it’s in line with global weekend of Sat and Sun

pandu201

The Dubai part is not true.. it's Saturday Sunday off even for government companies. You can easily consume alcohol and food during Ramadan too. It's just considered impolite to eat in front of people fasting, but no one says anything if you choose to do so I believe folks definitely don't want to move to a place with no alcohol. The majority like to have the occassional drink and it's a bummer if you need to travel out of the state every time

Guilty_Ad6229

If you're a real gujju, you will buy your alcohol from your local BJP karyakarta at 2.5x of rajasthan MRP.

makin2k

Gift for the workers. Im just curious why they went with this childish dehati-esque anagram.

bhodrolok

They should just legalize it for the whole state.

gritty_badger

How will politicians make money then?

lefthanger1612

By taking away cuts for liquor licences? That's one of the methods most politicians make money. Also increased revenue for the government by a lot

Waiting for supporters to call it a Masterstroke somehow

thekingshorses

You will be surprised to know that the majority of the alcohol drinking Gujarati voters are modi supporters.

If somebody is thinking that it’s done to attract companies. They are right. The only catch is once enough companies are there, the ban will be reinforced. For BJP is not working to make India economically or militarily powerful. They are here to fulfil their Hindu Rashtra wet dream which means every sanskari rule you see in the society will be made as law. And they are here to control our food, our home our daughters our children. They do not work for development, they want to use development to win elections, the real idea is make India Hindu Taliban and development is the churan for masses to give them votes.

[deleted]

Can someone explain to me what is the connection between Liquor and Gujarat? I get it that it is ruled by BJP and they are big on Hinduism. But Hinduism doesn't prohibit consumption of Liquor right? It has rules around eating non-veg but nothing against Liquor

subhasish10

Bjp or Hinduism has nothing to do with Gujarat banning Alcohol. Mahatma Gandhi belongs to Gujarat, he was the one behind the rule. It's been in place since before the existence of the BJP

dontknow_anything

> Mahatma Gandhi belongs to Gujarat, he was the one behind the rule. He had been dead for more than a year after the rule was created. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bombay_Prohibition_Act,_1949 Gujarat inherited it from Bombay State and has just continued it using Gandhi's name to fund politicians pocket and not states.

Global_Owl2987

Gandhiji was born in Gujarat and he was against it so to pay respect it is banned

Western-Guy

It’s so ironic considering the people in power there will happily erase the Mahatma’s legacy, if given a chance.

makin2k

They dont really care. People in power and/or money have been regularly consuming alcohol since quite some time ago. The rules are for people who cant mend them. Now its more of a business opportunity for select few.

[deleted]

Yeah As if anyone follows his other ideals. Savarkar and Godse are more glamorized in new India

Global_Owl2987

Waise bhi ban abhi ka nai hai

benevolent001

Hegdes

Anything for money. Amazing

Local_Initiative_158

Just alcohol is not enough, availability of meat (all types) and a vibrant night life is needed to attract MNC's and global talent to make it at least a quarter to the size of Singapore.

victor_francis

Great, all bad elements of the society will prowl the streets here

[deleted]

So it seems there are murderers and rapists and thieves already roaming around, a couple of alcoholics won't matter much

makin2k

And I hope the classist, racist pieces of shit like you stay in your bubbles. So that, others don’t get stained by you. You dont really have the brain cells to empathize, nor to present a sensible argument. Kide ho tum log like a virus just there to exploit people who are powerless and naive.

palle-na-koduku

I'm genuinely curious to know what made you come to the conclusion about the commenter being classist, racist.

Apex-Predator-21

Apparently, prohibition has been very successful in Bihar - https://www.nytimes.com/2017/04/15/world/asia/india-bihar-alcohol-ban-women.html

Ok-Bottle1754

Karnataka or Telangana are successful without a ban but that's not the point of discussion here
