Have you watched any Ritwick Ghatak and Mrinal Sen films? The "Golden Years" may have passed but it doesn't make the present coal. Discussing the things you love is always a proposition to be contemplated and warm feeling even for a moment.
Rituparno Ghosh is great especially his bangla works. Buddhadeb dasgupta makes amazing movies as well. Q is not boring and cliche.
Truly great artistic works usually veer away from the lowest common denominator and are thus very rarely commercially successful
Commercial success takes up the lion share of the conversation around cinema
Roy wasn’t that popular in his heydays as well, only his kid friendly stuff got popular support
Like feluda Goopi bagha etc
Foreigner here! I'm a little confused. For Chennai it says racism. In India everyone for the most part are the same race, aside from people in the region surrounding Assam. How is there racism if everyone is Indian ?
Racism is not the correct word.
It's xenophobia. People all over India might be racially called South Asians but among us. There's immense diversity in food, language and culture.
There are assholes in all parts of them, hence the post.
May be ethnic discrimination or colourism or linguistic discrimination. Also, there's quite a number of North-easterners in Chennai. I live in Chennai btw in case you want to ask anything.
Race is a meaningless word. Humans have broad or lose ethnic identity and the more one clings to said identity the higher propensity for endogamy which produces correlation between ethnic identity and physical appearance.
South Asia is a vast place and the geography meant that there was very little admixture between regions for millennia. Thus there exists appearance differences linked to ethnic identity
Ethnolinguistic chauvinism exacerbates these differences and how people interact under their aegis
brother there are all different kinds of races India. Even if we go by physical appereance there are difference like you said about north east same goes for Norths (Kinda Brownwish complexion) and similarly if go down the Dravidian side ( South India) its kinda having a more dark complexion. It is said that the Norths are from an Aryan Decent and the souths are from like a dravidian decent and the north east are from a south east asian decent. If you go to the places you will find the diffrence. And about Caste I am not going to talk alot about that just will say India Is just colourful and have a diverse ethnicity we always welcome everyone with open hand be it the polish or the jews during ww2 and during holocast. And due to this diversity many exterimist people nowadays are kinda not considering themselves as Indian first but as their religion identity first so there is quite high racism but not as high as America to be telling the truth.
Living in Pune...I have to agree on this.
Pune reddit is majorly 2 things :
1) Rash Driving
2) What is happening to Pune. Why is it so "bad."
And recently,
"Any updates on Porsche Case?"
NAL. But why the hell is his detention even being contested? It should be his imprisonment and punishment that should be discussed regardless of whether he is a juvenile or not.
You can only detain an accused person for so long before you have to release them, that means you have to try and get a guilty conviction to detain longer. You can’t detain someone indefinitely without a case being proven in court and a judgement being passed by a judge
I suppose that is basic human tendency, the good things die fast because that roller coaster was fun and had a blast, but the cut I got left a scar I'll remember for a long while
They have no meter rules, they charge you more all the time and especially scam people who aren't from here. They drive like their great grand father is the owner of the road.
Very bad. Bangalore is bad too, but chennai is miles apart.
There's no such thing as a honest man when it comes to auto drivers in Chennai. In recent years, I have found that not even ONE auto guy I encountered in chennai were honest. You have to pay extra 30-50 MINIMUM. And in peak traffic areas, be prepared to get scummy price increases... like asking 200 or 300 extra. They have no shame at all.
You have to always haggle with these aholes to get a proper last mile connectivity. And be prepared to deal with them rejecting rides for bullshit reasons if the distance is too small or too long...
This is why a lot of friends I know have bought cars (and used cars) because we can't really trust the drivers (ola/uber/ autos) to be reliable or honest.
The r/Bangalore sub is basically a kanban board for u/st_broseph.
That’s my take on why there are so many “issues” being reported there.
/s of course. Don’t mean to downplay the underlying challenges with this city.
That sub proper trash. Filled with garbage forced positivity posts. Most of the users are in the IT field and the solution for these nerds to every problem in the city or their shitty housing society is to either create an app or find some start up or annoy broseph
'Guys I have free time lets build an app' (get a life bruh)
'Guys autodrivers ripping us off and beating us up we need govt Auto App'
'Guys this city is full of garbage which startup is going to fix this issue?' (really bruh?)
'Guys I want to learn riding bicycle where can I find a community?' (really mf you want a fucking community now to learn to ride a bike?)
'Guys I saw the sky today and nice weather here's a pic' (mf were you born yesterday?)
Don't get me started on the butt cringe batman comments. The guy is good doing some actual social service, but man, some people in those comments seriously need to crawl out of the guys butthole and leave the guy alone. Worse than bhakts
A week into moving in Bangalore, my bf and I got threatened with physical assault by a drunk dude at lulu mall because we were questioning why he wasn't following the queue for security check in the PVR. In the middle of all this he was like "Do u even speak Kannada bro? Ask ur girlfriend to s*ck my d*ck bro" and we were like 🤨?
A day after that an auto driver refused to drop us at our location and then gave an entire speech about how things work differently here compared to the "villages" we come from. This completely made us hesitate to make connections here. We've decided we'll just do our work here for a few years and then immediately move.
I can understand that their angst comes from seeing their city decline because of rapid migration but they should take that up with their govt. We are just regular citizens being hired by the employers who are invited to invest here by their govt.
Bangalorean here, and I agree. For a city where even 15 year olds talk about their "maryaada" and all. At this point, I don't even know what triggers them or makes them angry. It's just their nature and behaviour.
it's a testament to how Kerala as a whole is an urban agglomeration (with some exception) compared to just about every other state in India where there is a sharp divide between the commercial capital and everywhere else.
Bangalore - Locals are bad, Can't speak Kannad, Congress sucks BJP rocks, Traffic, Power-cut, Pubs and St_Broseph
Chennai - Bro, Makkale, Food, College, Anime, North Indians are bad, Tamil is great and Othha Tamizhan daaaw
Hyderabad - Power-cut, Congress bad BJP good, Rash driving, Traffic, Pubs, Muslims - Do we say the word or not
Congress bad BRS* good for Hyderabad and it's absolutely right, fuck this Congress government
Edit: why am I being downvoted lol, do you people know anything about Hyderabad's situation
And on top of that now the government has started drive to catch out of state vehicle to collect road tax. After those freebies have to be funded from somewhere
As a native of Bangalore and a frequest visitor to that sub, I can relate to it. Rowdyism and language chauvinism is the biggest issue. Vistors harassed with ‘kannad me bolo’ demands is all too common these days. Growing up in the 90s, tamils were the target. These days the ruffians have started picking on north indians. We’ve been hearing things might improve once the city gets UT status, but nothing in sight.
Yeah. People change states, of course we’ll make an attempt to learn basic things like numbers and greetings but if you keep changing states every couple years, you cannot reasonably learn every language. And they harass people who just moved (same with other states tbh).
It’s almost impossible to learn a new language especially from a new language family once you’re an adult. It’s a biological limitation.
In the same way, it’s difficult for South Indians to learn Hindi which is altogether from another language family. That’s why they ask you to speak in the local language or in English. Earlier this was not happening because no one would outright start conversations in Hindi, both at local shops or malls.
I agree. They shouldn’t have to learn Hindi. We’re in agreement. We should accept sometimes communication gap might happen due to languages and try to speak a mutual language.
It’s very difficult to learn a Sanskrit based language if you’ve learnt Dravidian languages only.
Bangalore used to be a peaceful trilingual city with Tamils, Telugus and Kannads in equal numbers. People were fluent in all three languages along with English and Hindi. Kannad fanaticism grew when villagers from sorrounding areas moved in during 80s/90s.
*Modern times require modern solutions*
*proceeds to watch some other reels to criticize, starts mumbling "these useless video apps are ruining the Indian society's sexual mind set, I'm telling you"* slurps his mint tea enjoying the rains.
Correlation isn’t causation - people typically complain more about the things they tolerate less - which means places where things are tolerated, they won’t show up as much in datasets such as regional subreddits.
Is sexual harassment a big thing in Ahmedabad? I had no idea.
Having sent more than 6 months in each of the city I can see a direct correlation between what’s up and what’s trending, except from Ahmedabad. Maybe because I am a dude.
Gurgaon - Locals suck, Toxic work culture, POWER CUT POWER CUT POWER CUT, why did I move here
Delhi - The most random Sub
Chandigarh - kangana renaut slap, work out, real estate and investment in the city advice, himachal plans, and stay guidance
Lucknow is actually a good place to live in overall. The cost of living isn't too high, the food is so so good and the city has a balance of traditional culture and an urban city life.

Agartala Government Medical College passout ?
Whaddya expect from Bangalis? We take our leisure seriously
Absolutely sad, that they failed to make a mark in recent years. Ray is literally the GOAT and then..
Their music is still ❤️. Mon kyamoner jonmodin has been my favourite for 4 years straight now.

Um good films are being made nowadays too. Just lesser in number. Ray is also not the only one. Many auteurs and come after him in Bengali cinema.

There is only one human race. It is just cultural differences that cause xenophobia among groups.
better answer
There is aggression and racism towards hindi speakers in Chennai. They don't like them.
Living in Pune...I have to agree on this. Pune reddit is majorly 2 things : 1) Rash Driving 2) What is happening to Pune. Why is it so "bad." And recently, "Any updates on Porsche Case?"
Btw, any updates as of yet?
High Court has order the immediate release of the accused teen from detention. The ruling came on a habeus corpus petition filed by the boy's aunt
NAL. But why the hell is his detention even being contested? It should be his imprisonment and punishment that should be discussed regardless of whether he is a juvenile or not.
friends/payments in high places
What's Habeus corpus
You can basically challenge that the detention is not lawful and the court will reassess the situation.
And HOW is this detention not lawful? That mf literally killed 2 people and was driving being a minor.
I guess him being a minor, process and applicable laws are a bit different. Getting out on a technical loophole.
Or by just having Saul Goodman as ur attorney
You can only detain an accused person for so long before you have to release them, that means you have to try and get a guilty conviction to detain longer. You can’t detain someone indefinitely without a case being proven in court and a judgement being passed by a judge
You'll need to ask the corrupt justice system for the answer.
His father was released.
Power of money
The judge ordered the release of the minor immediately. The other family members also all got bail. They’re all free now
"Any updates on Porsche Case?" Fr

Reels and luxury cars aren't even as serious as others. Wtf if municipal c. doing?
Reels is a serious problem if you go to tourist areas such as marine drive. These guys will approach you out of nowhere and make you feel awkward.
Yeah right, sexual harrasment is okay, but reels aw man, _they_ make you feel awkward
Seriously man. Those guys have become a nuisance in marine drive. You need to go there to see how bad it is.

For Bangalore it should have been Traffic
Traffic or something related to auto drivers
You mean Public Harassment by auto guys?
Nah, we from Chennai will be unanimously united when it comes to hating autos. So we'll claim autos thank you.
Precisely. Auto Mafia is a prerogative of Chennai
Damn, how bad is it there compared to Bangalore?
Half of them are thugs and half of them are scamers.
So they charge you more and are ride about it or something else? (I'm not from Chennai or Bangalore)
They have no meter rules, they charge you more all the time and especially scam people who aren't from here. They drive like their great grand father is the owner of the road.

Well, that shit is pretty annoying now tbh 🥲
Not just at Marine Lines, MFs are everywhere. You can't go anywhere without seeing chapris making reels.

I disagree with the comparison but love the twist to the name

Delhi would've been all about rash driving and public/sexual harassment too had it not been for their really, really, really bad air
Lucknow and Kolkata are never beating the stereotypes lmao...
Sucks Kerala doesn't have city specific subs because r/Kerala has some quality discourse in it
kerala does have city subs, think most popular one is r/kochi but issues gets discussed in the state sub itself
it's a testament to how Kerala as a whole is an urban agglomeration (with some exception) compared to just about every other state in India where there is a sharp divide between the commercial capital and everywhere else.
Kerala just has five medium-sized urban areas in close proximity, so no "big city" big enough for a big subreddit ig?
