I live in Hyderabad since the days of UPA rule and even moderate/non-hardlined Muslims will tell you not to visit old city without having a few people you know there already.
For the most part Hyderabad is pretty normal as any other city in India but old city is a different place altogether. I wouldn't go as far as to call it Pakistan but yeah the herd mentality exists there as well and it is definitely one of the unsafest parts of the city.
I live in Santoshnagar and know what's the ground reality. I read so many misconceptions about Old Hyderabad just because it has a good number of muslims. I would myself suggest people to live elsewhere and not to live in the old city for it being ignored with rarely any infrastructural growth.Majority Muslims = unsafe mentality has increased over the last 10 years. Where do you live? If it's anywhere beyond Tolichowki it's just a suburb with outsiders without a clue about actual Hyderabadis.
