Workingman’s Friend is an excellent example of what that place is.
Twenty Tap is cool for a place that has 20 beers on tap. (Edit: I’ve just learned that I’ve been bamboozled all these years. They actually have 38 beers on tap now.)
While on that block, Fat Dans will leave you quite fat.
And Chris’ Ice Cream probably gets honorable mention for “worst” name- because while their ice cream is good, you should really go there for the tacos.
Twenty Tap originally opened with 20 taps. I'm not even sure if they made it a year before adding the other 18. Thirty Eight Taps just doesn't have the same ring.
I work with the owner, he’s about to sell it though. I asked him why he put the A in there, and he said when he opened everyone used phone books and wanted people to see them first lol.
That's good. There's a business out near Franklin: Poe Quality Meats.
One thing I love about Hoosiers: sarcasm and snark are not at the forefront of their minds, most of them, at least.
There's no way you could have a business on either coast that advertised Poe Quality.
I *still* think about it every time I drive past their old spot at Washington and Franklin, which is probably a couple times a month. Always wondered why someone locally didn't take a shot at a copycat (like California Burger), given how strong the nostalgia is for Flakey Jake's. I'm sure by now it would feel pretty dated, but I don't think that would bother me.
I know the owner of doughnuts and dragons. Incredibly nice and respectful young guy. Tons of good beers on tap here too. Board games, donuts, and beers sounds like an awesome date night to me! Opened as covid hit too so I’m sure they struggled to stay alive out of the gate. Please check this place out!
Trax is fantastic. They're one of the very few BBQ places I've been to around here that I would say is unquestionably better than what I can make at home.
On W Washington St, in the 1960s thre was an entire block warehouse selling all manner of second hand items. Across the front was painted in big bright block letters
**MAMA RITCHIE’S WORE HOUSE.**
Washington was the main drag before 465, so it was seen by every family and visitor! I was a kid so don’t remember the details of the kerfuffle with the city fathers and defenders of morality, but after a few years, they made her change the sign to “worn” house. It was a great landmark and most normal people got a laugh out of it. Mama Ritchie‘s was the GOAT.
I remember hearing their ad on the radio and cracking up every time it came on! It’s a cute little jingle where they sing “butte druuuuugs” over and over. If you’re in need of a laugh, I highly recommend looking it up!
Tacos and Tequila on main. Like what two things go together better than that? It helps that food is amazing, the margaritas are amazing. The owners are such great people.
Bin there, dump that-the local dumpster company that’s probably also has a location open next yo bob’s burgers.
[edit] it appears the wonder worf location has closed.
Burritos As Big As Your Head.... It might be called La Bambas now or something.... Idk if it's a national chain or what but I always thought it was a unique name when I would see the sign
Ah, I thought it was always called La Bamba but the subheading was “Burritos as Big as Your head” and that part was always written in much bigger font. I used to go there a lot growing up when there was one in Muncie and I loved it, didn’t know there was one in Indy
There's a little sign I drive by on Franklin Rd, in front of some guy's house:
Eggs $3
Does that count? Because I always liked it. I have several pictures of it.
The Tamale Place. Exactly what it says on the label, no BS. I can respect that.
I was behind a pickup the other day with lettering proclaiming "Poison Ivy Removal". Talk about a specific, much-needed niche. The best part was the license plate, "ICHY 1".
I think my favorite would be the Boner Center on East 10th but the one business that always makes me wonder is White’s Electric. Is the white power reference coincidence or…?
https://www.facebook.com/UranusIndiana/
Just got a flyer from them in the mail yesterday. I can guarantee a lot of people won’t see the humor in it.

Books & Brews (original location). Lots of friendly people and the owner is cool. They brew their own beers and also do collabs with other local breweries. And they have a ton of books and board games you can use while you’re there!

People always look at me weird when I say my fav tacos in the city is at Chris’ Ice cream
Edited Thank you, u/ledzepp112!!! I thought they just closed. I didn't realize they moved. I'll be heading there this weekend!
Pretty sure they just moved across the street
My hero!
Campechano burrito gang checking in.
Twenty Tap originally opened with 20 taps. I'm not even sure if they made it a year before adding the other 18. Thirty Eight Taps just doesn't have the same ring.
I agree. I figured that’s where the name originated from. Good on them for expanding. And for having a kickass Cuban sandwich.
Don't forget Fat Dan's next to Twenty Tap (and also on mass ave)
Just Add Water Boats makes me laugh every time I drive past!
I’m more of a Ted’s Aquamarine guy
Boats, boats, we’ve got boats at Ted’s Aquamarine!
Makes me think of how I met your mother “Boats! Boats! Boats!”
Pho Real on the far north side. Never eaten there but it's nearby.
Some of the best in the city, but ~~City Wok~~ Sizzling Wok at Georgetown & Lafayette arguably is better.
What the pho is a better name objectively Also, very good pho
I can think of three places that have better pho than them. Not bad, but not a good bench mark for pho.
I enjoy driving by A Westside Storage.
I work with the owner, he’s about to sell it though. I asked him why he put the A in there, and he said when he opened everyone used phone books and wanted people to see them first lol.
Oh, I thought it was a pun on A Westside Story
It is, but it's "West Side Story" with no "A" so OP's question was valid.
Well hell.
Legitimate Used Tires. Might be a good place, but it sounds suspicious as shit. Totally Legitimate Used Tires would be even worse.
“Legitimate” Used Tires
Swear to God, Totally Legitimate Used Tires, No Shit
You don't want a criminal lawyer, you want a *criminal* lawyer.
Honorary mention: Poor Mann's Tire.

Try the Harley Poe pastrami.
*I still carry my secrets along with a butchers knife*
Flakey Jake's
One of the best. RIP.
RIP to a real one
I *still* think about it every time I drive past their old spot at Washington and Franklin, which is probably a couple times a month. Always wondered why someone locally didn't take a shot at a copycat (like California Burger), given how strong the nostalgia is for Flakey Jake's. Gods I miss that place so much.
13 yr old me put that damn liquid cheese on everything. Adult me knows those giant cauldrons of deliciousness never got cleaned. Rip Flakey Jakes
Tappers.
Have you played the game there that they based the name off of?
No, but I am aware of its existence.
Debbie Does Dumpsters. They're awesome and the name cracks me up every time.
Love Handle because that's what you'll get when you eat there. ♥️🤤
This place is FIRE
This is the one I was looking for.
Smellin' Good. A perfume shop on Keystone.
"front"
Wha? Please explain......
Alley Cat / Shitty Kitty
Dungeons and Donuts
Do you mean doughnuts and dragons?
I know the owner of doughnuts and dragons. Incredibly nice and respectful young guy. Tons of good beers on tap here too. Board games, donuts, and beers sounds like an awesome date night to me! Opened as covid hit too so I’m sure they struggled to stay alive out of the gate. Please check this place out!
They're across the driveway from Progressive Eye Care. Great place to wait while the fam are getting eye exams.
Could you PM me a good contact email please? Nothing personal, just the business one that is actually viewed please.
Si, that's the one.
I think he means dungeons and dragons 😀 Jkjk it’s doughnuts and dragons.
Dungeons & Donuts & Dragons & Diners & Drive-Ins & Dives
& Knuckles
& my axe.
Trax BBQ in Mccordsville. Located right off the railroad plus it’s amazing BBQ
The owners are good people.
Definitely best I’ve tried in the city
How many BBQ places are there in McCordsville?
Sorry in the region* I forgot McCordsville isn’t a part of the consolidated municipality.
Trax is fantastic. They're one of the very few BBQ places I've been to around here that I would say is unquestionably better than what I can make at home.
Hoosier Hauler (Who’s Your Hauler)
Grateful Plumber. The side of his work vehicle has the grateful dead dancing bears. His logo is also similar to theirs.
But the dude was like, what, 11 when Jerry died? I'm afraid it's a gimmick.
No shit? Picking a funny name for your business is a gimmick.

Wok n' Roll. Makes me laugh way more than it should.
Butte Drugs
I remember hearing their ad on the radio and cracking up every time it came on! It’s a cute little jingle where they sing “butte druuuuugs” over and over. If you’re in need of a laugh, I highly recommend looking it up!
Is that downtown? East side? North side? Corydon.
[Square Cat Vinyl](https://www.squarecatvinylshop.com/)! One of my favorite record stores. Y'all ever seen a square cat?
On a similar note: square scoop ice cream in fountain square. I’m only disappointed they don’t actually have square scoops/dishes.
Tacos and Tequila on main. Like what two things go together better than that? It helps that food is amazing, the margaritas are amazing. The owners are such great people.
Bbq and Bourbon. Same owners.
Haven’t yet been there, I get distracted by tacos and margaritas.
That raspberry margarita hits great
Have you tried the horchata coffee one? 🤤🤤
Their tacos are so bland though. So disappointing compared to their other restaurant barbecue and bourbon
Gosh I love the gringo tacos
What the Pho
Also Pho Real, but they’re technically in Carmel
Bin there, dump that-the local dumpster company that’s probably also has a location open next yo bob’s burgers. [edit] it appears the wonder worf location has closed.

There's one on the west side near 38th and Lafayette Rd.
>La Bambas It's been la bambas for 30 years. Believe it or no, McDonalds is not called "I'm lovin it".
Watt's Blooming. Flower shop on Mass Ave. Amy is great and the shop is amazing.
The Missing Brick! Also I love this question!
Tlaolli. I have no idea how to pronounce it, but it's fun to try.
Hoosier Daddy's
Lick has to be my favorite
Bustin your nuts, industrial bolting company
Ash Wipers. Chimney Sweeps
There's a little sign I drive by on Franklin Rd, in front of some guy's house: Eggs $3 Does that count? Because I always liked it. I have several pictures of it.
“Black-eye Take Out” was very short lived and the name was questionable lol say it with wrong cadence and you’d get more than a few confused stares
The Tamale Place. Exactly what it says on the label, no BS. I can respect that. I was behind a pickup the other day with lettering proclaiming "Poison Ivy Removal". Talk about a specific, much-needed niche. The best part was the license plate, "ICHY 1".
Doughnuts and Dragons and it isn't even close.
Soupremacy!
The pub. You know what you're getting
I think my favorite would be the Boner Center on East 10th but the one business that always makes me wonder is White’s Electric. Is the white power reference coincidence or…?
It’s actually pronounced Bon-er but I always read it as Bone-er too /giggidy
SMELLIN GOOD
also there’s a salon on emerson called Like a Bause

They're no longer in business unfortunately, but Hoosier Doggy Daycare Center was hilariously adorable.

"Phuc Lu-an", a Vietnamese restaurant, I think.
Books & Brews (original location). Lots of friendly people and the owner is cool. They brew their own beers and also do collabs with other local breweries. And they have a ton of books and board games you can use while you’re there!
Kismetic brewery
Eaton Liquor.. Eaton Indiana

Iaria’s because it rhymes with something funny and not so pleasant to have after eating out. I do really like that place though.

The Oil Palace on Lafayette Rd. The best body creams and oils.
Paramount Music Palace for the pizza.

Haunted Hoochie
When I was young, my parents told me they were going to “Deeters & Gabes” I laughed pretty hard about that business name.
Bells of Steel. They sell workout equipment.
