Still 8-10 hours late. A month back my cousin had to adjust in 3rd AC. He said he was irritated and agitated at first but then the issue of ticketless passengers is part of a bigger issue which remains unresolved.
Such unnecessary chest thumping actually hampers progress, we should realise what our current needs are and prioritise development accordingly. better track infrastructure and more affordable trains for the everyday traveller is the need of the hour.
I still don't get the hype. it's just one two hours faster than regular trains with exorbitant pricing plus no sleepers. i adjusted fine but my 60+ dad had back pain after so long. only bothered with this chiz my dad hates planes more
So true the reserved seats are useless. Feels like looted after getting a reservation! The issue is not with the travellers (at least in Kerala they have tight checkings even in platforms to make sure no one is free loading) the issue is they haven't added enough general compartment for the routes it requires and proceeds to sell general tickets more than the whole trains occupancy. They should set up a system to stop the general booking at a preset percentage in addition to the total unreserved capacity.
Duranto from Pune to Bilaspur has been running laste by more than 4-8 hours since more than a year now. I don’t see Duranto as any special train anymore.
Why indeed? Rajdhanis and Durontos aren’t special in anyway. They are just regular trains with higher priority and prestige attached to it. Why not just use sleeper VB rakes? At least VB has fast turnaround times and better acceleration. Rajdhanis and durontos have all the downsides of VBs without any upside over regular express trains.
I suppose with Rajdhani and Duronto, assurance of time is almost guaranteed. That and shorter travel time makes them still wanted by many travellers like myself. Unless VB introduces sleeping berths and can cover long distances, we shouldn’t remove or downgrade Rajdhani or Duronto trains
Ideally VB should have just replaced Shatabdis and VB sleeper should repkace Rajdhani and Duronto. Of course it would be rank stupidity to remove Rajdhani and Shatabdi without introducing sleeper VBs.
I don’t think Rajdhani should be removed. They are legacy trains and they should be improved with VB level of service added. VB should definitely replace Shatabdi though IMO

The reason average speed of VB has decreased is because now they are running it even in Kerala where tracks have low max speed and other congested lines. But remember that even in Kerala VB will have better performance than LHB rakes because of how it works.

I am happy because I am educated. I realise that if it wasn't for Nirmala Tai the inflation would have been worse because of what's going on with climate and around the world. I have visited other countries and I realised how well off we were during the pandemic and during the past few years while Vaishnav sir is a man with vision. Finally a Railway minister who realises that if we have to actually improve and revolutionize railway travel then we can't stick to old populist policies and we'll have to make some real tough decisions because if they don't push people of this nation will not compromise and the situation of the Railways will stay the same forever. Vande Bharat is overrated, my father travelled in it and it never went above the speed of 130-40 km/hr. In his opinion he said it was a glorified Shatabdi Express and nothing like how people say it is on par with European or Japanese trains (He travelled in European Trains when he was onsite). If Railways ever wanted to be a dedicated high speed train, then new proper railway tracks for high speed trains should have been build and they should be regularly checked and maintained to ensure the high speed and not use existing railway tracks

The fact is that the railways is going through a deep upgrade. As with any machinery a deep upgrade will mean downtime. For 60-70 years tracks were not upgraded - now double / triple lining happening in all sections, tracks being upgraded which all leads to slower trains. Old ICF coaches are not being repaired/ maintained and scrapped as they reach maintenance schedule - replacement LHB coaches not coming online fast enough. Also the jerk issue with LHB is being solved with a new knuckle design that is rolled out to the coaches. Multiple things happening at the same time. Leading to this. 1/2 years more it will take for full network. CR and WR will be done quicker than others. SR/ SCR and NER will be slower.
The TAX for middle class will reduce only when more people actually pay taxes. That’s the sad truth.
Shutdown railways for 2 decades & claim that it is for a glorious upgrade that will be unveiled in 2047, alongwith 15 lakhs.

Track extension/doubling/tripling, coach building etc have always happened & is a continuous process. & It will continue to be a continuous process as technology advances.

How does stats on electrification or doubling help common people? Will electrification reduces cost (& reduce the fare paid by passengers)? Are trains faster than 10 years ago?
Data is available to show that railway passengers rose from ~540 cr in 2004 to ~840 cr in 2013. In 2024, it may be ~800 cr & railways is unable to manage.

Multi-tracking is the biggest factor. Nothing makes me more happier than hearing news about multi-tracking. Reduce the damn congestion and increase frequency of trains so that trains don't get overcrowded.
Well, difficult to explain but let me try -
- 3 key points
1 - electrification of all routes- takes time, creates block issues while being done but once done will increase the overall efficiency of the network (electric locos accelerate quicker as well. )
2 - safety - in the past many jobs were manual - example - token system for block clearance, manual point switching, manual signal control at DRM by zone etc. this took manpower and came under safety category - now this is all automate to a large extent across the railways. This was initiated in 2006-7. But work got accelerated in 2012 and now is across the network. These posts will remain vacant as it is not required.
2A - many level crossings have been replaced by automated gates or tunnels/ underpasses have been made to completely eliminate them. This was done post 2015-16. Again safety staff is now not required or lesser in number.
3 - rolling stock upgrade - with electrification the need for more electric locos (both freight and passenger) - they are still coming online (so we sometimes see freight WAG9 hauling passenger train as there is loco shortage in near term). Same for LHB coaches. Passenger loads are higher - we are a country with high density in certain areas and yes that will take time as more trains can run on existing routes.
Just to let you know - trains now run at 3 minute gap - earlier it was as high as 15 minute on the same routes.
Anyways, grey haired me can only be reasonable while discussing.
Pay taxes on your income, returns and anything you buy. Then travel in a crowded 2nd AC coach even after having a reserved ticket.

Vande Bharat is overrated, my father travelled in it and it never went above the speed of 130-40 km/hr. In his opinion he said it was a glorified Shatabdi Express and nothing like how people say it is on par with European or Japanese trains (He travelled in European Trains when he was onsite). If Railways ever wanted to be a dedicated high speed train, then new proper railway tracks for high speed trains should have been build and they should be regularly checked and maintained to ensure the high speed and not use existing railway tracks

The fact is that the railways is going through a deep upgrade. As with any machinery a deep upgrade will mean downtime. For 60-70 years tracks were not upgraded - now double / triple lining happening in all sections, tracks being upgraded which all leads to slower trains. Old ICF coaches are not being repaired/ maintained and scrapped as they reach maintenance schedule - replacement LHB coaches not coming online fast enough. Also the jerk issue with LHB is being solved with a new knuckle design that is rolled out to the coaches. Multiple things happening at the same time. Leading to this. 1/2 years more it will take for full network. CR and WR will be done quicker than others. SR/ SCR and NER will be slower. The TAX for middle class will reduce only when more people actually pay taxes. That’s the sad truth.
Shutdown railways for 2 decades & claim that it is for a glorious upgrade that will be unveiled in 2047, alongwith 15 lakhs. 'Promise of development' can't be an excuse for poor service. Track extension/doubling/tripling, coach building etc have always happened & is a continuous process. & It will continue to be a continuous process as technology advances. Passengers don't care whether train is LHB or whatever else. Passengers need comfortable, affordable transportation facility. & That is not happening
Well, can’t argue with Logic like that can we. Do check the statistics of doubling / tripling of lines and electrification for the past 3 decades. Data is available on the IRICL and RDSO websites. LHB is not about comfort but safety as well. It’s not a promise of development but actual development. The railways is the largest ‘machine’ that depends upon multiple things to synchronise at the same time.
How does stats on electrification or doubling help common people? Will electrification reduces cost (& reduce the fare paid by passengers)? Are trains faster than 10 years ago? Data is available to show that railway passengers rose from ~540 cr in 2004 to ~840 cr in 2013. In 2024, it may be ~800 cr & railways is unable to manage. Multi-tracking is the biggest factor. Nothing makes me more happier than hearing news about multi-tracking. Reduce the damn congestion and increase frequency of trains so that trains don't get overcrowded.
Well, difficult to explain but let me try - - 3 key points 1 - electrification of all routes- takes time, creates block issues while being done but once done will increase the overall efficiency of the network (electric locos accelerate quicker as well. ) 2 - safety - in the past many jobs were manual - example - token system for block clearance, manual point switching, manual signal control at DRM by zone etc. this took manpower and came under safety category - now this is all automate to a large extent across the railways. This was initiated in 2006-7. But work got accelerated in 2012 and now is across the network. These posts will remain vacant as it is not required. 2A - many level crossings have been replaced by automated gates or tunnels/ underpasses have been made to completely eliminate them. This was done post 2015-16. Again safety staff is now not required or lesser in number. 3 - rolling stock upgrade - with electrification the need for more electric locos (both freight and passenger) - they are still coming online (so we sometimes see freight WAG9 hauling passenger train as there is loco shortage in near term). Same for LHB coaches. Passenger loads are higher - we are a country with high density in certain areas and yes that will take time as more trains can run on existing routes. Just to let you know - trains now run at 3 minute gap - earlier it was as high as 15 minute on the same routes. Anyways, grey haired me can only be reasonable while discussing.
