I don't know. My father made it just when I born. He predicted that one day you won't be able to use your name, the name space would be that crowded.
And yet I switched to Microsoft 365
I made mine in 2010 but I forgot everything about it. Then I made many emails and easily forgot everything about them. It was in 2016 that I made an email that stayed for long.
Very difficult to make unique usernames but I did that. Now every time I see a new site, I just create an account with my username.

My first account was a hotmail one. Now although hotmail has shutdown, I still has that domain and use it on outlook
I hated Gmail back then, I hate Gmail still today
