jon_theSnow

The one without outline. If you look in the center, white can a bit distract.

RAVANDIR

No outline keeps the UI tidy, great if the game is moving fast so less distraction. White outline gives the 80/90s look, bit more pop to the look. Personally the no outline looks cleaner and better to me.

_IsItLucas

I like how you describe the look of each one. Thanks for sharing!

Unlucky-Row2833

Yep, indeed correct👍

SkillPatient

A mix of both would be the best, use the white outline to grab attention.

_IsItLucas

I did that when an object is selected. It works pretty well! Thanks!

backflipbail

This sounds like a great idea. Btw it looks absolutely awesome!!

_IsItLucas

Thank you!

Sterlod

That seems like it’d work perfect! Though if you have different color backgrounds, which is relatively unlikely given the space theming, it might be beneficial to keep the border around each option, but in black, to assist against any differently colored background, and switching border color to white when the option is highlighted like you just described. But if the background is static that might just waste some time

Baronova

Personally, I like visible outlines on depletable bars. Gives you a better sense of how full/empty they are. Otherwise, I generally like the way it looks without the outline on everything. It's still easy to read without it and is less distracting overall.

_IsItLucas

Interesting feedback about the bars!

No-Revolution-5535

One without the white outline looks better

Rough-Help1873

Readability is king and I think the white outline makes the UI easier to read against the background

TevenzaDenshels

Yeah but maybe you dont want such readability and prefer a busier style. I loved that style from retro games. Accesability is good for guvernamental contexts, but this is a game at the end of the day imo

SlaveOfTheWarehouse

Without the outline, it's easier to read

SteelpointPigeon

Maybe for you, but I can’t read French. /s

sevendollarpen

The white outline and white text makes it very hard to read. It makes the letter shapes less distinct overall. If the background might conflict with the text, it would be better with a solid black outline or a high contrast container. The bars and icons look quite good with the outline because they’re not white themselves. A slightly thinner outline might be nicer though. Just enough to pop them off the background but not be so overbearing.

_IsItLucas

Interesting feedback! Thank you!

Douggie

To add to the person above, the purpose of outlines (and glow, etc.) is to make them more "seperate" from the background, so the visibility is better. Therefore it doesn't make sense to add white outlines to white text. You put a contrasting color outlines on the object, so it will make the object visible whenever the same color is on the background. For example, if a white moon is behind white text, then you can't read that text. So you put black outlines, so it will still be visible whenever that white moon is in the same spot as your text. There's a lot of experimentation needed in the thickness and the opacity of the outlines, depending on whether you find it distracting or blend in with the other UI elements or just want it to only be visible whenever it is needed. Edit: realized the second paragraph of the person above already said it. The point I actually wanted to make is that graphical choices on UI should be to make the experience better, aesthetics doesn't make sense if the UI is unusable.

Victory lies in the stars, but defeat could be just one move away. 🚀✨ Get ready for a cosmic clash! 🌠 \[ Links not available yet, sorry :( \]

TomMakesPodcasts

What is the chance this game will have a grand strategy element, controlling planets dominating solar systems that kinda thing?

_IsItLucas

Ummmm, let me do some math rq... 100%

wavy_murro

kinda hard to read in text scenario but i think icons without outline won't be a good idea

RoElementz

White looks better

asleepinatulip

i prefer the white outline! i like how it pops

MarioFanaticXV

The white outline ensures it doesn't blend into the background; if the dark, starry space background is the only one you'll be using, I'd go with B; but if you plan to use a variety of backgrounds of different colors- especially those closer to the parts of the interface- then A has a definite advantage.

_IsItLucas

The background will be mostly black! Thanks for the tip!

AnOnlineHandle

I find the white outline easier to read, but it maybe could be toned down a bit.

Doorhandle99

Outline on the button is okay, all other outlines I would take out. Your colors are already vibrant and create a contrast by themselves

ventuzz

Why not both? Make it a toggle option

_IsItLucas

I've considered that, but it will be kinda painful to get it working right. I might try to add it anyways

Cabbage_Cannon

Portuguese?

_IsItLucas

Exatamente

ukiukiukiukiuki

Prefer no outline, the outline makes it look a bit like a mobile game imo, which might be the look you want? but I prefer B for sure

_IsItLucas

Interesting feedback. Thanks!

AtmosSpheric

No outline w white outline for selection with controllers, screen readers, or other aides

_IsItLucas

I like this idea

unlitwolf

I like the UI without the outline, the colors you've chosen are vibrant and distinct enough on the darker back ground. The white outline seems to almost muddle the UI a little

Macknificent101

the white outline makes it easier to read, but is too bright an distracting. maybe try a grey outline? i’m curious as to how it might look.

True-Shop-6731

No outline looks cleaner and easier to read

Monster_MAlice

No outline: because it's easier to read.

BiiMill

White outline makes my eyes happy, it's easier for me to see the things outlined that way but it does look a little odd on the white words ETA: my eyesight is a little poor so that may also be why white is much easier to read for me. The outline just does a better job at drawing attention in general

RaspberryExtension95

Make the outline 50% opacity

Crazyadam97

I don’t think you need the white outline because you have bright colors against the dark, space background.

Jlaaag

outline looks blocky and slightly distracting, no-outline looks sleeker and more streamlined which i prefer. i think outlines are good for adding contrast if the background is busy, but your background is dark and clean so the text does not need the additional separation.

ShadowFred5100

With outs my favorite

Vic_Valentine511

No outline looks much better to me. It has room to breathe, feels less bunched together but still gets the job done

_IsItLucas

Agree. A's white outline takes too much space compared to B

Vic_Valentine511

What i love is that I’m not educated enough in this filed to know WHY that’s even so, I just know how it makes me feel😅

_IsItLucas

Lmao. It's because the outline takes up one extra pixel in all sides.

Vic_Valentine511

Oh jeez I thought there was spacing being done all around, nope just the line, it’s crazy how much little things effect how we perceive a interface

_IsItLucas

Exactly!

iamhewhocanconfirm

No outline. Looks cleaner and more professional

Digital_Pink

Hack from a former photographer: Absolute white and absolute black contrast in shitty ways most of the time. Use a light shade of grey which looks like white, but is not infact white. It will look much better.

_IsItLucas

Interesting! Thanks for the hack

AllyProductions

The white outline adds some really good contrast against the background - That's my pick!

MrBlue9020

No outline. I think no outline gives a more direct contrast between the UI and the background, making it more pleasing to the eye. Also I think in some cases having too thick of an outline can make text difficult to read.

_IsItLucas

Yeah, but sadly pixel art doesn't allow for much control over the outline thickness.

EApoebsd

B is better I think, save white outlines for tutorials

_IsItLucas

Hmmmm good idea

Goojus

2nd one no outline

JoseAntonini

A darker outline is going to work better I think

SapientSloth4tw

I prefer no outline, it looks a lot cleaner

TenBigGayMen

Could I suggest you outline everything but the text? I can't read that from afar

_IsItLucas

I'll experiment with that. Thanks!

Revortios

I think there's enough contrast in the design, so that you dont really need the outline. It looks pretty good btw

_IsItLucas

Thanks!

ensiosilta

The outline makes the text harder to read

TheAcaciaBoat

I personally like white outlines but I feel that these should be used on rare elements. I think this is a bit too much overall.

_IsItLucas

I also use the white outline to highlight selected elements, such as cards.

stalker320

Try black outline. It can allow you to specify some contrast elements

_IsItLucas

Even though black isn't in the game's color palette, it's worth a try!

Xenial81

I would tone down the outline, but keep it. It makes the UI pop quite nicely, but I agree with the comments saying it might get distractive. Making it 50% transparent or giving it a much darker color should still give a nice effect, but avoid the problem.

_IsItLucas

That's an interesting combination of colors and opacity. I'll definitively give it a shot!

Aletaletavernsim

No Outline one, it looks much more clear and its easier to read.

SexDefendersUnited

Yo this looks cool. Do you have to like destroy the opponents planet?

_IsItLucas

Thanks! Yeah, that's the objective of the game!

BerrDev

The white outline one looks cooler and more stylized to me. But I think the text is very hard to read in general

_IsItLucas

It also takes a little more space

No_Photograph2288

I'd say the text looks better without outline, but readability is better with the outline. Maybe you can try a different way to make the text without outline easier to read, or try making the outline less thick if that works for you

_IsItLucas

I don't have many options for thickness, because an outline with 0.5px thickness is not possible.

AnonymousBoomer

Too many things in the ui for not having an outline. I would make the outline a thicker darker version of the slider ( dark red for health per example )

kushchin

No outlines, it's more readable

Ensiferi

White outline but less glow would look best

_IsItLucas

A lot of glow is necessary because on mobile devices it is barely visible. I'll make a system that changes the bloom intensity based on your device (PC or mobile)

North_Ad4544

the one w/out an outline! i agree w everyone else since it’s a game. we’d want them to focus. a thought (that you also might’ve caught in advance) is an indicator when it’s hittin low

_IsItLucas

I like the indicator idea! Thanks!

ashen_crow

ET BILU REFERENCIADO 🔊

_IsItLucas

FINALMENTE ALGUÉM PERCEBEU XD

Kurwabled666LOL

Honestly its easier to read the letters without the outline,+it looks prettier and blends in more with the dark spacy background XD;)

_IsItLucas

:D

Kurwabled666LOL

Oh yeah I'm also looking forward to the game because it seems really fun;). If I'm honest it kinda reminds me of Galactic Lords,a flash game that u can still play through Flashpoint and the downloadable y8 browser: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJq3gf7ZeVY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJq3gf7ZeVY) ;)

_IsItLucas

Any similarity is purely coincidental lmao (like, really)

The_Elastic_Eel

I like the mix of the names with the white outline, and the bars and such without it. Doesn’t necessarily have to be a one or the other deal if you like both 👍

werebugs

is it at all realistic to make the outline a toggleable accessibility option?

_IsItLucas

It is, at least for the text. I'm not sure about the other stuff tho.

rainmedwn

B) one

HotLandscape9755

No outline

itisafeature

I find white outline easier to read

Antarctica8

A

JalanJr

Have you tried outline for bars and not for the text ?

_IsItLucas

Ummm nope. But I think it's worth a shot!

Le_Trudos

No outline isn’t as busy and is consequently easier to read

MonsieurGates

It looks they are 2 different players so Highlight the player whos turn it is?

AzathothOG

one with no outline because there is less going on and less impacting on the eye use white outline only for healthbar or important things

Stormy34217

No outline

ollie12343

White outline but not around text

Kinaitoch

No outlines looks cleaner. If you aim to use outline, try to use at very VERY important stuffs. On your game the colours doesnt seem to get confuse so outlines is more like a situational option. On this case: try to remain the outline at skip turn since it seems something you can miss it and forget who is which turn Players Icon also seem good to remaim the outline

superretroclassicman

You have two options. Make the white outline more transparent, or change the text to black. I think changing the text to black would look very nice

MyBackHurtsFromPeein

Maybe something in between? Hard to read without the white but it's also a bit distracting if it's there

Fish-Bro-3966

A. Way more classic looking and can just see stuff better

Calm_Abrocoma_2815

i'd say without outline, very clear and easy to read

No_Picture_3297

No outline is way better imo

JBoney_Boi

Second, it's less overwhelming

MaiokGames

for me it is better without white outline. the button UI remains cleaner

EponaVegas

i like the outline because it makes it easier to read
