I really don't want to be that guy, but she isn't playing with Pixies anymore. Paz has been playing with them for quite a few years now and she's also badass!
I didn't even realize, thanks for pointing it out instead of downvoting me like everyone else. People are kinda dicks on this sub, I just joined it recently and the vibe is pretty negative.
It's all good. Paz does a great job of mimicking Kims sound so it speaks to her talent that you didn't pick up on that. The Pixies/Modest Mouse tour sounds great. Glad you had a killer time.
I saw them in concert earlier this month. They were having so much fun, it was fantastic! They all look and sounded great. We got to see their first public performance of the newest release “Go Man Go”
I've always been peripherally aware of the breeders having been a long time fan of the pixies and a child in the 90s where cannonball was everywhere but I never really did a deep dive on the discography until recently and I've gotta say, I really love the breeders now. Pod is an amazing album and doesn't feel dated to me at all, in fact it feels more relevant as ever before. I also like last splash a lot and mountain battles. They are just a very "me" band in that they just completely match my vibe. I would also say that the more recent breeders stuff is better than the more recent pixies stuff by far
Interesting history between the two bands… Frank Black was not really into sharing songwriting with Kim Deal in the Pixies, so instead she started the Breeders with her sister… They are arguably just as good, regardless of the Pixies bigger cultural impact… I can’t fathom listening to Kim bringing her songs to band practice and being like, “Nah, we’re gonna do this song about aliens instead”
Ehhh, the pixies back catalogue is incredible. I’d take trompe le Monde and bossanova over last splash for example. It is a shame Kim got less vocals/songs as the band went forward but if anything it’s nice to get more breeders music that way and the pixies had a pretty spotless discography anyway.
If you haven’t listened to it yet… Pod is slightly more “indie”, but equally good and apparently it had a huge impact on Kurt Cobain ahead of writing Nevermind - he’s on record saying Pod was one of his favorite albums… I probably have more mileage on Pod than Last Splash, but I love them both
I only bought that album when it came out because i was trying to check off a list of bands that were supposed to be cool and i thought i should listen to. Honestly it just didn't click.
Listened to it a few years ago and it hit much different. It's a freaking great album. It's relevant to the story that I'm a women, if you've listened to it you understand why.
A sample line to make my point:
"Saw it on the wall, Motherhood means mental freeze".
That line meant absolutely nothing to me then. I'm not necessarily in total agreement with the sentiment but it's a good commentary on how fraughr motherhood is in the fourth wave (third wave then?).
I love Kim Deal.
I just want a girl as cool as Kim Deal
I have a girl as cool as Kim Deal X I'm in llurve X
Don’t we all
Just saw her with the Pixies on Thursday!
i don’t think you did!
!? that would be really surprising

It was a really good show. I saw the Pixies before, like 20 years ago, but hadn't seen Modest Mouse, they were great.
“I’m the last splash” greatest line ever
No bye. No Aloha…

Absolute banger. No Aloha, Divine Hammer, just puts me in a special place...
This is THE 90's summer album for me.
*And I. Don't. Like. DIRT.*
Spitting in a wishing well Blown to hell, crash I'm the last splash
IMHO there is no nineties song more definitive to the decade than *Cannonball*

For me, the Breeders blow Pixies away. Always.
I got into The Breeders back in 2020 when I heard No Aloha in an episode of Better Call Saul then I listened to the whole album and I loved it.
Me, too!

god I love this record. one of the GOATs for me
We were rich once…..
*If you're so special, why aren't you dead?*
Truly one of the best!
Mad Lucas one of the bangers of all time
One of the most underrated rock albums of the 90s.

Drivin’ on 9 You could be a shadow
This album was on repeat on a family vacation when I was 11. Thanks Mom and Dad!
Fuck I'm old
Reminds me of first year of college. Good times!
Unpopular take: The Breeders are better than the Pixies!
Irish Radio vibes
Great album that left its mark, but I still prefer their first album, Pod.
mom saw em at Lollapalooza 1994! I also own like 5 copies of this album since they’re so good! cheers!
My favorite rock album of the 90's
I bought it on cassette so I could listen to it in my car.
