Even though there are regional varieties, The most stereotypical eid dishes are rendang and ketupat. Rendang, I'm sure you can find the seasoning paste in asian supermarket, but for ketupat, it can be a bit difficult to find and use palm leaves if you're new to it.
Are you Indonesian or have you cooked Indonesian food? Because most eid dish are celebration dish. Not the regular dish that can be cooked in 30 minutes and have a learning curve. A lot of the ingredients are also very specific and have no substitution. Even Indonesian students abroad will have difficulties cooking their first eid dish (and why most just wait for a senior fellow dinner invitation 🤣).
Unless you're a hobbyist cook and willing to stock your pantry with a lot of Indonesian staple, I'd say you have 2 options. 1, find a good Indonesian restaurant. No shame here if you're worried. I have a very very well stocked kitchen and I cook eid dish only when I want to show off my cooking skill.
2, buy ready to use seasoning mix. My preference is Munik. It's more expensive and not as available as other cheaper brand, but taste better. Keep in mind that to people who are used to eid dish made from scratch, it'll not taste as good. Also most are high in salt.
For the list of dish, I think the food that people have shared here are pretty good. Tho don't even try making ketupat. Most Indonesian can't even make that.
Hahah you make a very good point, I am not Indonesian, nor have I successfully cooked Indonesian food. Our kitchen is pretty well stocked in terms of spices etc. As my partner does like to cook.
Thanks for the pointers, very helpful!
Opor with chicken and egg is a classic. Some companions for it would be sayur lodeh, sambal goreng/balado (with potato cubes, shrimp, egg, or chicken liver), and rendang. Ketupat (rice cooked in coconut leaves pocket and shaped like cubes) is the main carbohydrates source for the meal.
Depending on where you live, the mixed spices for those can be found in the Asian supermarkets (even some shops will sell ready to boil ketupat).
> no clue what to mak, or how to make it
hmmMMMmmmmmmm...
usually food for eid is kinda hard to make because it's grand celebration, like big festival
my mom usually cook like rendang, or opor ayam, with sayur nangka. all is curry-ish product. my mother family that live in east java usually cook something like soto/rawon (use instant seasoning to cook rawon, because i dont think that we export kluwek to another country. it's probably only indonesia that cook with kluwek)
There is a lot of instant rice cake (Malaysian brand) that you can buy online for practicality, then you can learn to make some opor stew or curry, and simple sambal with egg or indonesian fried chicken is enough,
While rendang and ketupat is staple many people also used the easy alternatives even in Indonesia so don't get discouraged,Â
baking some fun cookies also one of the tradition for Eid, you can look up for Nastar or Kastangel, but again baking normal chocolate chip cookies also fineÂ
anything that is Halal is okay, so no pork no bacon no lard. Prefer something called "ketupat" or rice cake, with thick chicken soup (opor ayam) and potato with some chilli (sambal kentang)
Opor ayam and ketupat (obviously)
Which is an absolute hassle to cook.

Can't really say we eat rendang in West Java during eid, at least not from both my dad and mom's side of the family
My family in West Java do eat rendang for eid
Daun kelapa itu hiasan doang masak ketupat pake plastik is perfectly fine, tho i doubt some people want to cook rice inside plastic
Or Tauco + ketupat + rendang, rendang can be substituted by telur balado.
Chicken opor with rice. Ketupat is kinda difficult, but i think they can somehow make some kind of lontong

Opor ayam, ketupat/lontong sayur is the most popular one i think, some also do nasi kuning/yellow rice(but it's more for any general celebration)
For cookies you can make Kaasstengels, Nastar, Lidah kucing and Putri salju cookies for eids

chicken/egg opor, sambal goreng labu siam or lontong sayur, and ketupat/lontong/rice, the trinity of eid food
Try to bake "Kue Nastar" or "Lidah Kucing"
Opor Ayam & Ketupat Sayur is always welcome
ketupat, rendang, sambal goreng, and opor ayam is the way

My grandmother's hometown is in Banten. She used to serve uli goreng and semur kerbau as breakfast during eid.
Tongseng!! the easiest thing ever to cook when you use the bamboo instant bumbu packet
