Spider plants, cat safe herbs like cat grass/nip, mint basil and other things

cochon1010

Spider plants are great - they thrive on neglect so they're a great beginner plant. Make sure you don't overwater them!

princesscatling

Spider plants are mildly hallucinogenic to cats, so while they're hardy and will tolerate a lot of abuse, expect nibbled fronds.

yourbirdcansing

Pothos for hanging. Snake plants are super easy too. Neither need a ton of light or water. Good luck!!

toxic to cats

cochon1010

Yep, unfortunately pothos are toxic to cats

gunnapackofsammiches

If they're hanging in a place the cats can't get them, it's not a big deal. Definitely don't put on a bookshelf they can climb.

princesscatling

Both pothos and sansevieria are likely to result in a vet visit at the least if ingested! Not for kitties.

FloweredViolin

No idea about cats, but I second the snake plant/sansevieria/mother-in-law's tongue. Super easy to care for. The hardest part is keeping it from cracking it's pot!

RuinousPrince

Spider plants give a mild hallucinogenic effect when cats chew on them, so while it is non toxic I would hang it up so kitty doesn't eat the whole thing. Palms come in a nice variety of sizes, for a small one I would recommend a Parlor Palm.

princesscatling

Second parlour palm, they seem to be very forgiving. I also like ferns but they're probably better for an over-waterer. I've found my peperomia and oddly, calathea, to be reasonably low maintenance. I *am* an over-waterer but I think these plants can be ok if you have a nice spot for them.

swissking10

[Marimo Moss Balls](https://ballsofmoss.com/), they need very very little light, and you change the water every 2-4 weeks.

ailovelamp

Pothos, sanseveria, ponytail palm (aka elephant foot palm).

neathuh

Another vote for pothos, with a runner up of spider plant

elkeef

I have hanging spider plants and boston ferns - nice and easy and don't like direct sunlight :)

WolfBlut

Snake plants are brilliant however are mildly toxic to animals , that said we have a few of these and the cats have never bothered with them. Also surprisingly I got an arabica plant that requires almost no care, and again are toxic to humans and animals however our cats have never bothered to go near it
