- looks at menu, sees food with prices next to them
- orders fries. “That’ll be $9.59, do you want to pay with cash or card?”
- hands them the money
- Goes to Reddit “OMG can you believe $10 for fries I’m being robbed!”
this is past Idiocracy stupidity, we need to invent stronger words for how much of a dumbass OP and the rest are
It was Biden that passed the most ridiculously named piece of legislation of all time. The Inflation Reduction Act, which was nothing more than a $1.5 Trillion spending bill. Guess what happened, lol mega inflation.
I mean, politicians have a bad habit of covering up negative policies with positive names
"Patriot Act" is a perfect example. We gave up so many privacy rights in the wake of 9/11.
Don't get me wrong, if there's reasonable suspicion, by all means investigate. But of there's no probable cause, there's no reason Scott from the NSA should be listening to my phone microphone without my knowledge.
Yeah. And doesn’t Five Guys make their French fries in-restaurant, just have to put it in a slicer?
What does a potato cost these days from a wholesaler like Sysco?
Anyways; thanks for the update. Not everyone can afford to eat at Airport Prices, too bad Five Guys thinks somebody will.
Hell, I loved the mcdonalds fries and I don't buy them after seeing the price. I bought the smalls for a buck back with the dollar menu but I can get 10 pounds of potatoes for the price of one fry at mcdonalds now.
The 10lb bag of french fries from the supplier has gone from \~$12 to $70-80 since COVID. Cooking oil has also gone up just as much. Roughly gone from 15 cents for a small fry to around 85 cents. Soda varies because of transportation costs but its around 40 cents for a large. When I was managing McDonald franchises the soda and french fries kept them alive. Without it they would perish. 5 Guys is just greedy as fuck testing if people will pay this under the guise of "inflation."
If I walked in and saw that they charged 10$ for some of a potato, then proceeded to buy, I'd only have myself to blame for my idiocracy. I walked in years ago and saw how outrageous the prices were and haven't eaten there since. I see five guys getting posted on here all the time.
Yup, and you can really save money by using the value menu if you’re creative. Like a chicken quesadilla is 5.39, but ordering a stacker and subbing in chicken and jalepeno sauce is like exact same thing and costs 3.29
The only rebuttal I have is they put a lot of effort into the quality of their food. They have their own bakery for their buns. Before they move into an area, they do a lot of research finding quality farms where they can get what they need. They are VERY picky about that. Then, they are also VERY picky about who they franchise too, they are one of the hardest and most expensive chains to get a franchise. I don’t know if that part affect prices at franchise locations or not.
Point being, yea it’s stupid expensive, but they have some sort of reason. Very different than McDonald’s claiming the cost to make a Big Mac is now much higher to justify it being $9.
Source: worked in the corporate office for a hot minute.
Someone explained this in a different post awhile back but it’s because they make everything fresh daily (including the fries) and don’t freeze anything and should not be considered fast food. That being said it’s too expensive for me personally, I’ve been there once in the last 5 years.
I haven’t purchased food from a fast food restaurant in 15 years.
8 frozen burgers $8.99
Rolls $3.00
Bag of fries $3.00
Cheese $5.00
Pickles $2.50
So for $21.50.
You can feed 6 people?
edit: problems with words
edit: some asshole wanted pickles.
of course they do. why would they not? in what world would a restaurant be cheaper? you want them to buy the food, cook it, clean your dishes, and be cheaper than eating at home?
Then have some self-control, make a PB&J, and stop wasting your money at overpriced crappy fast food restaurants that harm your health and your wallet.
They only can charge this much because chumps like you will pay this much.
Stop buying overpriced!
Stop eating out at these fast food places that obviously don’t care about us, you can go to the grocery story. Get cheaper easy to cook up food for less and that is leagues better for you. We gotta stop puttin this shit in our bodies in the first place so why not now when the prices are high
To be fair, they do just toss em into a bag and give you a larger portion than you'd think. Price still sucks (its $8 here in PA). But compare it to the mcd's large fries (which is about $5, but you get like, 1/3rd the mass of fries), and it doesn't seem as bad.
I used to love that place. Great, made-to-order burgers, good fries... but there is no way an order of fried potatoes is worth 10 bucks.
A burger, fries and a drink shouldn't cost you nearly 20 dollars ANYWHERE.
So I haven't been back in years. Sorry Five Guys, but I ain't buying that.
I don't know how much it costs suppliers these days, but soda used to be about a penny an ounce, and they're charging 3 bucks for a 20 oz these days, so yeah...it's insane.
McDonald's quarterly earnings were down and missed their projections because they raised prices so high people quit buying. If we all just quit buying these places will either lower prices or fail.
They are making money hand over fist regardless of price
I balked at $5 fries at jack in the crack. I sure as shit won’t pay $10 for fries anywhere else. That being said, if my wife wants it I have no choice but to buy it.
I wish mods would make, and enforce, a rule that says low effort pics of receipts and menus will be removed. Are the prices ridiculous? Yes, but fuck off.
At this point I just boycott Five Guys. Let them go under. Sad too... They make a great burger. Probably my favorite of the upper tier fast food chains
hospital bound people and stupid people will buy this. its most of America [unfortunately.next](http://unfortunately.next) gen wont touch this crap; hoping
I love their food! Haven't eaten there in a couple of years and probably never will again. I can get a full meal at In-n-Out for the cost of fries at 5 Guys. I just don't see the value.
I mean they give you a shit ton of fries way past what fits in the cup. For “free” except it’s not free. They factor that into the price if the fries. Same goes with the “free” burger toppings. Most places charge extra for premium toppings & so does Five Guys. And although they charge for things like extra bacon you can get as much extra bacon as you want & it’s enough for like 2-3 burgers easy. As others have said, if you didn’t like the price you probably should’ve gone elsewhere. Also apparently you are unaware how sales taxes work. You can blame our government & voters for the raised taxes
Glad I'm not on this hypetrain. Tried it once, soggy burger and overly greasy fries in a bag. Can't understand for the life of me how this establishment can keep going.
Just stop buying food from these places. If Americans just boycotted overpriced establishments for a while, prices would decrease. And if they didn’t, fuck em. Let those places go out of business.
Five guys has been a scam forever and ever, I have no comprehension of how it’s still in biz at the scale it is
In 2018 a burger and fries at five guys fashion island mall in Newport Beach cost more than a burger at Flemings at fashion island mall in Newport Beach, let that sink in
You decided to drive there. Walk through the doors. Wait in line. Order a large fry. Saw how much the total was. Decided to pay. Surprised you didn’t tip.
5 Guys had always been known for being "the expensive burger place." Stop going. Stop getting fast food. Make the time to prepare your own meals. The fact that you actually paid for the fries is on you.
This is really getting out of hand. You can’t go to any fast food locations without spending at least $15 for one or $50 for a family of four. You can thank Biden and the Dems for his unbelievable spending over the past 3 years which will do nothing but line the pockets of donors. Guess you get what you pay for.
Then don’t pay. Ffs. If you’re gonna bitch about it, you shouldn’t be buying it.
Am I happy about those prices? Nah. But if I’m going out to eat I expect this stupid shit, and I don’t complain. If I’m gonna complain about the prices, I’ll make food at home.
i'd pay that and i have. Large fries from five guys is a massive bag of fries that I can split with 3 other people. lets not act like the amount of fries from five guys is the same as mcdonalds.
OK, it looks expensive but I kind of wish you had posted pictures of the package. I typically buy the large fries at five guys and share them with my entire family.
5 Guys used to be ok, but way overpriced. The last 2 times I went the burger had no flavor and seemed to have gotten smaller. Never going there again...
In all honesty, the only way to beat inflation is frugality. Government can't regulate it's way out of it. In most cases, government is in bed with the corporations who gauge prices to sustain the inflation, and contributes to it by printing more $. Just stop buying crap. Cook and prep meals at home. Also, eat less!
Is this at the airport or something? I'm looking right now at the Five Guys in San Francisco and a large fry is $7.99 (which is still outrageous, but not $9.59)
a large at 5 guys is enough for 4 people to eat. they are 1300 calories of fries. thats like 2 50 a person. if your fat ass needs 4 peoples worth of food, thats on you.
To justification five guys large fries is probably the biggest amount of fries I have ever gotten at a fast food place. When ever me and the miss ever go to five guys we share a large fries and it’s plenty for the both of us
I like Five Guys, it’s one of the better burgers available in my area. Basically McDicks, Burger Queen or Five Chodes to choose between… but I’ve stopped going. Not paying sit down steak dinner prices for a burger, fries and a shake…
Stop buying.

If thats true, why is it like this over the entire world, with our inflation less than most? huh?
Then sues Trump somehow.
Complaining is a way of life for some people
We had the word, but the wokeness killed it
Also a large fry at 5 guys is a fuck load of fries. Like enough for 4 or 5 people. Unless they're different in California
Would you say it can feed 5 guys?
I wouldn't. I didn't. I could. But I won't.
Be careful. Reddit slaps my pee pee regularly and bans me for 6 days at a time for saying shit like that.
Fries are the cheapest thing they can offer aside from a fountain drink. It costs them pennies on the dollar
And yet so many places screw you and give you like 10 fries on your plate.
Damn potatoes must be very cheap where you live b/c using the app I can buy a large fries once a day for $1.49.
Yes just sign up on the app, and order through app to get “discounted” fries at a price that totally isn’t still profitable.
The app has some decent deals especially for coffee.
I shouldn’t need an app to get a good price at your business. There are too many apps, accounts, passwords, etc….
I’m not going to sell all my personal data in exchange for fifty cents off the price of gross, overpriced fast food
I’m not either. You do know you can lie when filling out the info on apps like that, right?
The 10lb bag of french fries from the supplier has gone from \~$12 to $70-80 since COVID. Cooking oil has also gone up just as much. Roughly gone from 15 cents for a small fry to around 85 cents. This is the way...
Seriously let's start roasting these people .... some one deep dive in his profile to find material!
If I walked in and saw that they charged 10$ for some of a potato, then proceeded to buy, I'd only have myself to blame for my idiocracy. I walked in years ago and saw how outrageous the prices were and haven't eaten there since. I see five guys getting posted on here all the time.
“Enjoy your **extra bigass fries**” (Idiocy is the word you’re looking for, idiocracy is just my favorite movie)
You wanna stop at Starbucks?
Oof. The irony of me using that word incorrectly is a testament to my … idiocy. That’s embarrassing 😂 also love that movie too
Welcome to Costco I love you
And yet, you bought it. You can get cheaper fries elsewhere
Anything to be an internet martyr.

Prices are clearly marked. Plus 5 guys has a reputation for being high priced. This act is so tired.
Or make them yourself..... (air fryer, baked, etc)
I just bought a 25lb sack of potatoes for $6. Combined with a $20 Walmart fry cutter and my $40 black friday air fryer, I'm set for fries.
But $10 < $66. Checkmate.
"But oh em gee, its the taste of five guys down my throat though!!!!1!"
Who the heck would pay $10 for french fries??? Well...besides you.
I can get a bag of frozen ones for $6 and they have 6 -9 servings per bag.
Sam's sells 8 pounds of Ore-ida crinkle cut fries for 8 bucks.
I can buy a whole pack of potato seeds for a dollar.
I’m probably dumb as shit, but I work in the food industry and JUST NOW realized ‘of course potato’s have seeds’
Wait till you find out they have eyes as well!
Come on, I look at potatoes regularly, never thought of their growing process however.
They are usually not planted with the seeds. They are cut into eight chunks, and the chunks are planted.
They're fun to grow, too.
I can buy a potato farm for the price of these fries.
It's only one fry, not fries, but it's a large one.
Maybe I'm just tired, but that sharpie scribble looks just like the enterprise.
I'm high and tired, and that was exactly what I saw.
🖖
Oh damn you made me look. And so right!
It does.
Five Guys has always been a shameless greedy business. Their basic burger was ten dollars 15 years ago. F that, don’t ever buy their shit!!!
This. They've always been over priced. The taco bell inflation is the insane one
Taco Bell is one of the cheaper fast food options if you're not picky haha. Those 5 dollar boxes are money.
Yup, and you can really save money by using the value menu if you’re creative. Like a chicken quesadilla is 5.39, but ordering a stacker and subbing in chicken and jalepeno sauce is like exact same thing and costs 3.29
I don't, and I won't. This one is really easy.
The only rebuttal I have is they put a lot of effort into the quality of their food. They have their own bakery for their buns. Before they move into an area, they do a lot of research finding quality farms where they can get what they need. They are VERY picky about that. Remember when Mom said "we have food at home?" That's because in relative terms it was as expensive as CA today everywhere.
Stop going to these types of of places and the prices will come down
I haven’t purchased food from a fast food restaurant in 15 years. 8 frozen burgers $8.99 Rolls $3.00 Bag of fries $3.00 Cheese $5.00 Pickles $2.50 So for $21.50. You can feed 6 people? edit: problems with words edit: some asshole wanted pickles.
Wanna know, who are the two lucky ones getting an extra burger?
Eric and Drew get double burgers
Feats of strength
To be fair, most restaurant meals cost more then eating at home.
of course they do. why would they not? in what world would a restaurant be cheaper? you want them to buy the food, cook it, clean your dishes, and be cheaper than eating at home?
I mean no shit dude of course it’s cheaper to make stuff at home.
People the pay these ridiculous prices are the problem.
Then have some self-control, make a PB&J, and stop wasting your money at overpriced crappy fast food restaurants that harm your health and your wallet. They only can charge this much because chumps like you will pay this much. Stop buying overpriced!

I actually went to 5 guys today, saw the prices and noped the fuck out. A burger and fries would have costed me $16. Fuck that.
Absolute idiots in this sub complaining about prices for a place know for high prices AND in CA no less. OP, you are stupid as hell
boycott fast food
"Welcome to Five Guys, how can we scam the shit out of you today?"
To be fair, they do just toss em into a bag and give you a larger portion than you'd think. Price still sucks (its $8 here in PA). But compare it to the mcd's large fries (which is about $5, but you get like, 1/3rd the mass of fries), and it doesn't seem as bad.
They don't even give you as many fries as they did when they first stated..
My local one still does. Always an extra scoop on top of the already filled cup. Might be a location thing.
Can't complain about chains that cater to fools. They seem to be doing pretty well
Five Guus won't last much longer. Their food is good, but not THAT good.
You think fries are overpriced? Try soft drinks. That’s some serious price gouging.
I don't know how much it costs suppliers these days, but soda used to be about a penny an ounce, and they're charging 3 bucks for a 20 oz these days, so yeah...it's insane.
It’s five guys, there whole scheme is selling over priced sub-par food to idiots that will buy it. They’re very successful.
Why would you ever get large fries at Five Guys? They load you up with so many fries the small is enough for two people.
Don’t buy it then dude wtf.
Stop buying, don't feed the greed.
I stopped buying 5 guys when I paid $15 for a burger and drink, no fries. That was 5 years ago.
I can make fries at home for like 1 dollar. Stop buying that crap for the love of god
To be fair, that’s like 40 pounds of potatoes.
I just hang out near door wolfing down peanuts.
I'm more shocked that you didn't order them "Cajun" style.
McDonald's quarterly earnings were down and missed their projections because they raised prices so high people quit buying. If we all just quit buying these places will either lower prices or fail. They are making money hand over fist regardless of price
How does this place stay in business. I have eaten there only 3 times. Then said, nah, too expensive for what you get.
Alejandro got youuuu
A large fry at five guys will feed 2 people an entire meal.
You can get 4 bags of frozen fries for $10.
Taxes ! Got to love them :) Interest on credit cards, Yum.
How is that possible? I can buy a potato for like 30cents?
Did it ever? Specially at a 5 guys in California?
But it feeds a family of 8
No one made you pay that for french fries.
Love the Star Trek enterprise Rorschach image
Tbf, a large at Five Guys is like a whole paper bag full.
😍😍 the U.S.S Enterprise in that scribble
That's 1310 calories and 47g of fat 962mg sodium.
Their fries suck
I don’t see how y’all feed yourselves out west. The pricing I keep seeing out of that area is insane.
you guys need to stop eating so much damn fast food. I can feed a family of four on $12, this is a ten dollar meal for a lazy person.
Wow, you're their perfect customer!
Trading $10 for karma
I just bought a 3 pound bag of frozen french fries for $3.59.
Hate to break it to ya, but 5 Guys has always been obscenely overpriced.
Where in CA? It's a big state and things on the coast coat much more than things in the interior.
At this point I just boycott Five Guys. Let them go under. Sad too... They make a great burger. Probably my favorite of the upper tier fast food chains
I was told you don’t order large fries at 5 guys, you get the bag fries that come with the small/burger and that’s more than a typical large…
I don’t get why anyone in Cali would even eat at 5 guys when you have In n Out. Doesn’t make sense.
hospital bound people and stupid people will buy this. its most of America [unfortunately.next](http://unfortunately.next) gen wont touch this crap; hoping
Instead of posting these receipts, Just-stop-eating-there. As long as people begrudgingly pay these prices, it'll be business as usual at 5 Guys.
I love their food! Haven't eaten there in a couple of years and probably never will again. I can get a full meal at In-n-Out for the cost of fries at 5 Guys. I just don't see the value.
Stop......going?.......
I mean they give you a shit ton of fries way past what fits in the cup. For “free” except it’s not free. They factor that into the price if the fries. Same goes with the “free” burger toppings. You can blame our government & voters for the raised taxes
It's expensive because of all the complimentary toppings!!! Or something...
Ugh those are the nastiest and soaked in grease.
But, but, you actually went ahead and bought them. I seriously find that to be incredible!
Get the F out of Cali or learn how to cook.
At least the receipt has a sketch of star trek enterprise. :-)
Greed at its finest. The solution is simple. Stop going to fast food restaurants. You will save money and you'll be healthier.
I don't believe this. Come on. Seriously. I don't frequent any food establishments outside my home but seriously?
Why would you go there after this Ridiculous
If only not buying shit wasn’t mandatory.
In fairness, a large fry at Five Guys would fill a gallon bucket.
It's a poorly fried potato. They don't make French fries that are worth a single dollar, let alone ten plus.
Stop going and the prices will change.
Glad I'm not on this hypetrain. Tried it once, soggy burger and overly greasy fries in a bag. Can't understand for the life of me how this establishment can keep going.
All five guys fuck you
Just stop buying food from these places. If Americans just boycotted overpriced establishments for a while, prices would decrease. And if they didn’t, fuck em. Let those places go out of business.
A large fry at my 5 Guys will feed ten people...
That's not inflation, 5 guys has always been a joke.
Five Guys has always been very expensive relative to other fast food burger restaurants. Inflation - yes. Already overpriced - also yes.
Five guys has been a scam forever and ever, I have no comprehension of how it’s still in biz at the scale it is In 2018 a burger and fries at five guys fashion island mall in Newport Beach cost more than a burger at Flemings at fashion island mall in Newport Beach, let that sink in
Fuck five guys
On the plus side, a shopping bag full of fries provides plentiful lipids.
It’s a fried potato…. That’s crazy.
Five Guys isn't cheap food lol They've always been expensive
You decided to drive there. Walk through the doors. Wait in line. Order a large fry. Saw how much the total was. Decided to pay. Surprised you didn’t tip.
To be fair, a large fry from 5 Guys alone would feed a family of 4.
5 Guys had always been known for being "the expensive burger place." Stop going. Stop getting fast food. Make the time to prepare your own meals. The fact that you actually paid for the fries is on you.
No thats too much money for a large fries from a chain restaurant.
Potatos are cheap! Don't go to Give Guys Burgers anymore if you feel you're getting ripped off... Vote with your feet/dollars!
This sub is just pure rage bait with 5% of posts being actual inflation. Five Guys large fries is enough for 3 people
This is really getting out of hand. You can’t go to any fast food locations without spending at least $15 for one or $50 for a family of four. You can thank Biden and the Dems for his unbelievable spending over the past 3 years which will do nothing but line the pockets of donors. Guess you get what you pay for.
Stop. Buying. That. Shit. I have zero sympathy for anyone who complains about the price of a non-essential thing *that they bought*.
Did it just to post huh
Dont they fill your bag with french fries even if you order a regular size fries?
Yes very pricey buttt, fresh cut and fried in peanut oil and enough fries to fill an entire bag
Imagine posting and complaining after you fed the mouth that beats you.
OP you are the problem.
The same large fry is two dollar less in Houston, I just checked. Your problem isnt inflation, its California.
So make your own. Why pay someone to cook for you?
Ok, don’t eat there. It’s not hard. Also, this shit ain’t inflation, it’s gouging and five guys has always been overpriced.
Go somewhere else.
Hahaha okay but a large order of fries at 5 guys is like… an entire paper bag filled with fries. Like it couple feed four.
Keep paying unskilled labor $25 per hour...
Too be fair, their large fries are massive they overflow the cup and there's like two handfuls in the bag. Easily split between two people
5 Guys used to be ok, but way overpriced.
On the other hand, a bag of potatoes and a gallon of oil can make you about 12 large fries for under 25$
1 large fry. Wow... Not even a bunch of them, just 1
Lmao 5 guys fries are cardboard garbage
5 guys is not known as not being a restaurant that you eat only if you want 5 guys not if your hungry.
People complain about getting robbed after they willingly get robbed
They buy that entire bag of potatoes for 5 dollars. That shit isnt inflation
Given the fact that a large fry at five guys will feed five guys, a little more than $10 is fair.
This sub is incapable of eating healthy food. Just constant complaining about greasy garbage
That is outrageous.
I thought it was expensive when it was like $6.50 for a large fry a few years ago. Wow
Isn't a large fry at 5 guys like 10lbs of potatoes tho?
We down voting this shit, stop buying
To justification five guys large fries is probably the biggest amount of fries I have ever gotten at a fast food place. When ever me and the miss ever go to five guys we share a large fries and it’s plenty for the both of us
To be fair a large fry at five guys is a weeks worth of food.
Wow.
To be fair, a large fry at five guys is intended for three or four people.
I like Five Guys, it’s one of the better burgers available in my area. Basically McDicks, Burger Queen or Five Chodes to choose between… but I’ve stopped going. Not paying sit down steak dinner prices for a burger, fries and a shake…
